The contact stated that while driving 55 mph with the cruise control activated, the cruise control system suddenly stopped functioning with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it appeared that the power steering bearing failed and the serpentine belt became detached from the vehicle. As a result, the serpentine belt erroneously came into contact with the engine temperature sending unit and fractured the wires from the sensor, struck the clutch fan and was destroyed. The failure caused all of the plugs and wires to be exposed.
