The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the steering wheel was hard to turn and a warning displayed on the panel that read ¿service advance trap". The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was not able to diagnose the failure. In addition, the contact stated that when attempting to pass another vehicle, the accelerator pedal was activated and there was loss of acceleration as the check engine light flashed on and off. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
While towing my camper at 60 mph up an incline my 5. 0l f150 began to lose power, as I increased pressure on the accelerator the power to the vehicle decreased even more. The service engine light came on and I limped up the hill at a whopping 20mph on the interstate. Once on the downgrade the vehicle came back up to speed and the service engine light went off. The truck continued to have power issues and a knocking from the motor when I was climbing hills. I took the vehicle to the Ford garage and they told me there were no codes to tell them what was wrong. The vehicle still has the apparent miss and knocking sound at certain rpm's and now has an issue starting for the first time of the day. I again took it to the Ford garage when the starting issue was happening and they told me again that the vehicle still had no codes to explain this problem. I tried all of the easy fixes but the vehicle still has the same starting and power loss issues and Ford can not tell me what is going on with my vehicle. My best guess is a catalytic converter issue, but I can do nothing about it until I know for sure.
I was driving at highway speed and tried to accelerate quickly to pass someone and the truck had major hesitation and shuddering. Continues to do this anytime you try to rapidly accelerate.
I was attempting to accelerate hard to merge into traffic onto interstate highway. When I pushed pedal to floor, the vehicle immediately slowed as if a governor had kicked in. Fortunately, I had room on shoulder to not get hit, but had to wait and pump pedal twice before it began to accelerate again. I have not tried to replicate the problem. I had an identical problem 3 years ago in another ecoboost Ford f150 that nearly killed me. I attempted to pass another vehicle and realized that I needed hard acceleration and the vehicle immediately slowed. There was no where to go, but fortunately my fellow motorists realized I had a problem and let me back into my lane without a multi-vehicle crash. I asked my dealer about that then, and was told that never had been reported. I immediately traded that truck for the one I have now that day.
Water from the cac was ingested into the engine causing a misfire. This is the 8th time it has happened to me. I have had all TSB's completed by Ford and the issue still persists. The ecoboost engines are unsafe. This loss of power while merging has causes me to narrowly escape accidents 2 out of the 8 incidents. I noticed that the NHTSA closed an investigation into the ecoboost issues earlier this year. I'm suggesting that the NHTSA re-open that investigation. The TSB's are not fixing these issues and it is only a matter if time before someone is seriously injured. Please contact me with any questions.
As I was merging onto the highway, I had to accelerate to avoid a semi who was approaching in the right lane. I hard accelerated, but the truck started shaking and the check engine light began flashing. I had lost all acceleration and was forced to put my flashers on and merge to the break-down lane to avoid being run completely off the highway. The truck shook violently while in 6th gear and I had to manually shift to 5th gear to stop the truck from vibrating apart. Less than 10 minutes later (while driving down the highway in 5th gear) the check engine light turned off and the truck was able to be shifted back into 6th without any vibration. This lack of acceleration is extremely dangerous and has happened more times than I can count. Above was only an explanation of the last occurrence. The truck has been serviced (under warranty) where issue was discussed with Ford, but they were unable to "reproduce" the problem. . .
While attempting to pass a slower vehicle on a two lane road, my truck lost all power and the check engine light began blinking. I was in the on-coming travel lane adjacent to the vehicle I was passing when the incident occurred. The incident nearly caused an accident as the vehicle I was passing slowed down when I lost power an I was unable to immediately get over. I coasted with a rough running engine to the shoulder and shut off the engine. When I restarted it a few minutes later it ran a little rough and the check engine light remained on. Research shows that this is a know issue for this make model with the ecoboost engine. The Ford dealership, while having a TSB in place for the issue, did not notify me of the issue and will not cover the cost of the recommended service under either the power-train warranty or my Ford extended warranty (bumper-to-bumper has expired). This is a huge safety issue and this should be a recall from Ford to fix these issues and they apparently will not take the initiative to do so on their own. The incident occurred in southwestern missouri on a day in which it had been raining off and on.
As I was merging onto highway 694 north, I had to accelerate because of a semi approaching me from behind, I gave the truck full throttle but the truck started shaking and the engine felt like it quit or just had no power left. The truck struggled to reach 55mph, and within seconds I almost got rear-ended and almost ran off the highway, do to the fact that my truck had no power. After I merged onto the highway the truck shook violently for about 3 miles while my check engine light was flashing. During this time it felt as though my truck had lost 50% of its power.
When accelerating and approaching freeway speed, engine stumbled, preventing acceleration. I let off the accelerator and problem didn't occur again. I reported this to the dealer, but they stated that since the vehicle did not register a code there was nothing they could do. I have since had this happen again on July 17 & 18, 2015, but this time the engine light did come on, so I'm assuming it did register a code. On July 17, it was a clear dry day, the following day it happened again, but it was raining all day. Once on the freeway, whenever I stepped on the accelerator, even when at freeway speed, the engine would stumble and barely accelerate. I've contacted the dealer and scheduled an inspection for July 29, 2015. The vehicle currently has 47000 miles. I've talked to Ford customer service and I am being told this is not a warranty repair, but I am seeing a number of service bulletins being issued describing this exact problem. I believe this is a defect in design and should be covered under the manufacturers warranty.
I was merging into traffic after picking up my daughter from daycare. I pressed down on the accelerator firmly to gain speed to get into traffic. My truck stalled with a pinging noise coming from the engine and an uncharacteristic black smoke pouring out of the exhaust pipe. Oncoming traffic had to brake to avoid hitting my truck on my daughters side. The truck recovered but only gradually picked up speed with very little power. It was a low constant acceleration. This is the 4th time this has happened with my truck but this time it endangered my daughter so I feel that I need to speak out. This needs to be addressed before my 1. 5 year old daughter or someone else gets hurt due to faulty equipment.
While driving down highway tried to accelerate to pass truck vehicle lost power and check engine light came on. Pulled off road and shut the vehicle down and then restarted vehicle. Later loss of power on any incline that I approached.
I am glad that we were not in a situation that we could have gotten killed because of the throttle problem. The first time we were driving down the road at 45 mph suddenly the accelerator would not respond, the engine was still running at a rough idle. We had to coast to the shoulder. Stopped turned off the truck, it was able to restart and the accelerator was working again. We drove to the local Ford dealer. At the Ford dealer they could not identify the problem. The second time this happened was when we were going 55 mph. Coasted to shoulder of the road and I was able to restart the truck and drove very carefully to the Ford dealer. This time they were able to get a code reading of the problem. The code called for a recalibration. This was done. Drove the truck home thinking that it was repaired. The third time this happened was on the interstate traveling 75mph. Luckily we were in the right lane and was able to coast to the shoulder. Repeated same procedure as above. Returned to the Ford dealer. This time they read the code(p2112) and replaced the throttle body and motor assembly. This problem with the throttle could have very easily caused a deadly crash. I feel that my wife and are very lucky as we could have been in a very serious accident.
While traveling down the road and the need to accelerate to pass a much slower vehicle my truck lost all power and began shuddering very bad. With oncoming traffic approaching quickly I had to step on the brakes rather hard and quick to avoid a accident. What would have possibly happened if I was towing a legal but heavy load? Ford has a known problem with the coils on the ecoboost and this truly needs to be addressed. This is a extremely serious traffic safety when you loose all power and the severity of the shudder that also occurs.
While trying to pass a vehicle on the highway my truck started to sputter and loose power, the check engine light came on for a few seconds and went off. This problem is happening every day now under all conditions. There are numerous complaints on this problem and no real resolutions.
On February 13, 2014, my Ford 2011 F-150 ecoboost began to show signs of limited throttle response coupled with a drastic reduction in power output and moderate to severe engine vibration. These symptoms occurred and were most severe under heavy engine load, while traveling uphill, high outside air temperature and with the air conditioner on. General locations: mojave high desert (joshua tree, CA) and the greater palm springs, CA area. Weather conditions were generally dry with low humidity. On February 15, 2014 the symptoms described above were so violent that the check engine came on (flashing) and I pulled off the road for my own safety. I shut off the engine, allowed it to rest¿ and then turned the engine back on. The symptoms did not disappear completely, but they were reduced and the check engine light was no longer illuminated. On February 20, 2014 I brought my truck to yucca valley Ford to have the problem diagnosed. Mileage at the time of the service was 68,382 miles. A diagnosis was performed and it was determined that the engine was misfiring on the number 1 cylinder due to worn spark plugs. All 6 spark plugs were replaced and the symptoms disappeared. The truck ran fine until approximately June, 2014. The symptoms slowly began to reoccur and by early August, had fully returned. On August 8, 2014, while traveling at freeway speeds, up a steep grade, with external air temperatures in the low 100 degrees, low humidity, and the air conditioner on, the truck nearly lost all power, began to misfire and vibrate violently, and the check engine light began to flash intermittently. Upon reaching the top of the grade and the load on the engine reduced, the symptoms were reduced. The truck was again brought to the yucca yalley Ford service center on Saturday August 9, 2014 where it is currently awaiting diagnosis.
I was traveling on the interstate where I live and was trying to get up to speed to merge with traffic and when I accelerated my truck lost power and began to sputter and shake, and would not get up to speed, and the check engine light came on, when I took to the local dealer where I purchased it I was told number 2cylinder and number 4 cylinder was mis firing, that I needed new coil packs so I had them replaced and I am still having the same problem.
Vehicle lost acceleration when trying to pass. Engine light came on and engine started to shake. I had to turn vehicle off and restart. This now occurs anytime I attempt to accelerate. . .
Coasting at low speed around 7mph I attempted to accelerate, instantly as I put my foot on the gas pedal, now not even making it to 10mph, the 3. 5l ecoboost engine made an incredibly loud and hard bang and continued to grow louder and shake more violently. I came to a stop on the side of the road I shut down the truck to find oil spilling from the passenger side of the block. I had the truck towed to my local dealership and they found that two connecting rods had broke and destroyed the block. They is no concern from anyone at Ford about how this could have happened.
While driving my f150, v6 ecoboost engine, down the interstate, when I try to accelerate, the truck to pass vehicles and or move out of the way of on coming traffic, the engine gives me nothing and shutters, feels like it is missing. I originally started to feel this in 2013, took it to the dealership, cause I thought it could be a transmission issue, and the service rep only asked if a light came on and if none has come on, probably won't show anything. I am outside of my warranty now and the truck is shuttering very badly when I try to accelerate anywhere, besides my gas mileage has dropped significantly, which now can become a epa issue. I have read about a lot of issues concerning this year Ford with same engine with no outcomes. I have been told, once again that if I don't have a check engine light, then it probably wont show a code. I don't know where else to turn but to at least have a complaint filed where there is an issue with the 2011 Ford f150 v-6 ecoboost engine.
Went on a 350 mile trip, I was at a stop light and when I went to accelerate the truck lost all power. I have one of the ecoboost engines. The engine did fix itself and I continued with no other problem, this is the first time I experienced this problem. 2011 Ford f150 king ranch.
Loss of significant power under slight to moderate acceleration, engine shutters violently, shakes and miss-fires. Check engine light flashes. Engine seems to run on 50% power loss, letting off accerator for awhile then engine seems to recover temporarly until additional power is needed. Unable to have any confidence to pass any vehicles on grades. Quite possible for complete power loss under full acceleration as the engine misses so bad that it actually slows down and looses rpm's. I have owned this truck since new. Symtoms started in dry climate, no rain and have continued to get worse as I have entered into rainy areas with humidity.
Had a car pull into my lane, tried to accelerate to move over with out causing a dangerousness situation of a car coming up in the lane I needed to be in to avoid the idiot moving into my lane but car lost power. Thankfully the car in the next lane over saw the issues with the car moving over into me and gave me room, I'm sure they didn't expect my car to slowdown due to the loss of power. This car has the ecoboost engine 3. 7 liter.
Engine misses at times of hard acceleration. Engine ecoboost.
While merging into traffic on the expressway today in miami, at about 35 mph, I had to accelerate to get out of the merging lane, at which time (for the third time since I bought the truck in 2011) the truck lost all power to the engine (a 3. 5l ecoboost) and began to sputter, shake, and decelerate. Luckily for myself and the other drivers on the road I did leave a sufficient gap between myself and the car to my rear to give that vehicle time to react to what equates to a vehicle pulling out in front of him/her and gently pressing the brakes without the brake lights engaging. My truck hovered between 25 and 30 mph for about 30 seconds with it doing the sputtering and slowing thing each time I attempted to accelerate during that time period. After pretty much coasting for 30 or so seconds, the truck sprang back to life and drove as advertised. From what I've read, this is not an isolated incident and I (as well as others) believe Ford should be held accountable for this defect. I'm not looking for a new truck, I'd just like the problem fixed. Even though no deaths or injuries have been reported due to this "yet", you can see the danger of having your engine loose power when you need it the most. Unfortunately for their customers, all Ford seems to be concerned with is the loss of a buck. . . . . . Not the loss of a life!!! thanks, james p.
Traveling on 4 lane highway during period of train, accelerated to pass vehicles, my truck eco-boost motor acceleration stagnated and vehicle began to shutter, was unable to pass, decelerated and stagnation stopped. Incident occurred when ever I tried to accelerated during active rain during a 9 hour interstate trip.
Spring of 2012 acceleration failed when overtaking a slower vehicle. My speed was about 60 mph. This happened on more than one occasion. 06/10/13. Vehicle engine began missing and vibrating when accelerating at any speed. I was driving about 45 mph. Have sent the pickup to the dealer for inspection/repair.
There is a problem with the engine misfiring at moderate to hard acceleration. This really bothers me. As I have talked with Ford mechanics I have been told that Ford has no fix for this problem. From what I have read and studied, this is a problem with condensation in the intercooler making its way to he injectors. Once you put your foot on the gas pedal to accelerate you experience a sometimes violent stutter and the vehicle not accelerating but instead sounding like it's going to explode. I have also heard this happens when its humid outside. Regardless, one day I'm going to need to accelerate away or from something and the truck is going to fail, causing me to get hit or killed. I have found fixes to the problems including a full race intercooler, plugs and wires, however I don't think I should have to spend over $1000 for something Ford released knowing it wasn't ready, or up to par. I've owned my vehicle for over a year now and its 0% better even using top octane fuel. Please help. . .
Vehicle shut off going up hill weather cold and damp took truck to dealer on 5/20/13 found nothing wrong . On 5/25/13 vehicle shut off 11 times while accelerating. Drove vehicle on mon may 27 shut off 9 times and we were nearly run over by semi on interstate. Engine light came on on Tuesday may 28 drove to dealer with vehicle shutting off over 10 times. Vehicle is a liability as well as a safety hazzard for driver as well as other drivers.
Same as previously reported by many others: misfire upon acceleration up a hill; reported to dealer who found no error codes. Happened again soon after, this time activating engine warning light. Dealer replaced cylinder coil; next day, same type of misfire occurrence. Very unsafe situation, costing me lots of time and money. In addition, this eccoboost, as I have reported to Ford since it was new, has never achieved even close to rated mpg, only averaging 14 mpg or 40% less than advertised. Vehicle now back at livermore Ford, where technician was asked by service dept to drive unit home hooked into computer to see if problem can be diagnosed. This is an unacceptable and unsafe situation. Not happy.
An example of what happens is this: traveling along at 45mph, and pull out to overtake a slower vehicle, you accelerate aggressively. Upon doing this, the truck seems to stumble like it's hunting for the appropriate gear (@ about 45- 50mph). Also, it feels like an engine mis-fire. It's a disconcerting feeling that the truck does not accelerate as it should when you need it the most.
My Ford f150 eco boost lost power suddenly while trying to enter a rural route at a stop sign. While trying to accelerate it just died for several seconds and then took off since I was pushing on the accelerator wondering what had just happened . The vehicle has been shuddering a lot on acceleration now with a substantial loss of fuel economy . I have personally had it at two Ford dealership which say they can find no problem with it , but shop forman told me and my wife we where stuck with it and to fix it by pulling the battery cable off every once in awhile.
Under hard acceleration on the highway, the engine began to cut out and misfire, then the check engine light began to flash. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they said the innercooler had failed and needed to be replaced. Now, at roughly 55,000 miles it has begun to do it again, I had noticed it some before, but now it is worse. I took my 2011 f150 with the ecoboost to the dealership again and they said a TSB had been written and they changed the replaced the lower air deflector. This actually made the problem worse. At wide open throttle from a stop to about 80 mph, every gear will cut out and sometimes put the engine into a protection mode beginning around 4,000 rpm. If it shakes and shudders made enough the check engine light will flash, and now it has come on and stayed on. It has been very dangerous if I pull out to make a pass and then the engine shuts down and I can no longer accelerate. This has happened dozens of times, and has been addressed twice now by the dealership without any fix.
2011 Ford f150 ecoboost - purchased July 2011. When accelerating to pass traffic or merge into traffic. The vehicle shudders and shakes violently lossing all power, the check engine light flashes the goes to solid. This was taken back to Ford dealership mechanics in florida and kansas 3 times now with no fix action in place. During a road trip in July 2013, (after a trip to Ford) we couldn't use the cruise control due to traveling over hills would cause the vehicle to lose power constantly to the point where some hills were almost impossible to drive over, vehicles behind me were honking and complaining as it barely made it up hills.
This is on the ecoboost f150. I was driving during a rain and had been around 70 miles. The weather was rainy. I went to pass a farm tractor on a 2 lane road and the vehicle stuttered and had no power to pass. I had to take evasive action and get back into my lane where there vehicle continued to sputter for approximately another 2 minutes. I took truck to Ford and they replaced a converter and cooler. Last Wednesday under similar conditions, the same thing happened again on a vacation trip. Oncoming traffic had to evade me as I tried to get back into my lane. It has been less than 10, 000 miles since last attempted repair was performed by dealer. Obviously the repair did not work and now I am left with a vehicle with an obvious design defect that Ford doesn't know how to correct. Under different circumstances, this could be a serious safety issue.
We were merging onto the highway outside of st. Louis mo and when the accelerator was fully depressed the engine started to misfire and power was reduced. A blinking cel was displaying on the dashboard. It seemed as though the turbo system was not adding any extra charge to the ambient air. There was a pronounced vibration to the vehicle that seemed to originate from the engine/drive train. Luckily there as not a lot of traffic at the time and our poor acceleration did not result in an accident. My solution was to manually select the gears and drive at much higher rpm. This smoothed the misfire and we had an adequate amount of power to keep up with traffic. After about 10 minutes everything smoothed out and the misfire was gone. Truck behavior returned to normal. The weather that day was a pleasant 60 degrees and sunny. The previous day we drove from central ohio to st. Louis through much rain and fog. Since we were on vacation and away from home we did not take the truck to a dealer to be serviced. The problem has not occurred since then. There was one previous occurrence at a previous date. I don't know exactly when it was. We were traveling home to vt from ohio. We had been driving for many hours, mostly on highway/cruise control driving. We had just gotten off the interstate highway and were on state highway. I went to pass a slower vehicle in my lane and upon depressing the accelerator the engine seemed to misfire (rpm went up but power delivery fell flat). I stepped off the gas pedal and slowly pressed a second time and this time the truck responded as expected. There was no cel this time. Each of these incidents occurred with my entire family in the vehicle. We were not very happy about it and did not feel safe at the time.
