1 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2020

Tailgate opens spontaneously while driving and while parked. The tailgate has an electronic release mechanism. After checking to ensure the tailgate was secure it has released five separate times. Once in the garage, causing damage to the paint on the tailgate after opening the garage door and once on the front of a car parked behind the truck. Fortunately I didn't have cargo in the back.

2 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2019

Electric rear tailgate falls down randomly while driving at speed or even while parked. Tailgate has fallen 5-6 times while truck is parked in last few months and also 5+ times while car is driving. It has fallen while truck was in reverse, and while truck was traveling on country roads at speeds of ~40mph. Please note - this issue seems identical to the one Ford just announced a recall for on the 2017-2019 f-250 superduty trucks. It must be related. Our truck was in the shop just last week before this recall was announced. This truck should be included in the recall the tailgate most recently fell 11/28/19.

3 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2019

While driving our 2015 Ford F-150 lariat supercrew on a trip from ohio to florida on interstate I-77 we were towing a 14 foot enclosed trailer. My wife and I stopped for the night after approximately 550 miles and I made sure the truck was secure. In the morning I walked around the trailer and the truck to be sure everything was okay and it was before continuing our drive. We were just north of charlotte, nc and there has been a lot of new road construction as we continued south with rough bumpy areas, changing road lanes and just a lot of twisting sections. After 2 hours and south of charlotte we stopped for fuel. I then saw that the tailgate was down. I was shocked as I looked and was glad we had not lost any items on the road, we could have killed someone. The tailgate received damage because as the twisting and required lane changes happened the trailers front tongue wheel support post was jamming against the dropped tailgate. We feel so fortunate to have not lost the heavy items in the truck that could have made us responsible for a sever accident. I took the truck to the Ford dealer in mount dora, FL and was told the recall currently is for just the f-250 & f-350 models with the power tailgate. They "ran" my VIN number and told me this truck is not in the same recall. Even though the F-150 "lariat" upgrade model has the same power tailgate as the two in the recall. Please help and require the justified recall to be specific to not just the vehicle VIN or model numbers but to all those with this type of functioning power tailgate. I have called Fords's consumer (866) help center and they are not admitting replacement for my damaged tailgate even though the dealer body shop manager had me present to see as they took the tailgate apart. We found inside one broken part for the mechanical latch controller that secures the locking of the tailgate.

4 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

2015 F-150 lariat supercrew cab door locks and tail gate become frozen in cold weather. This has been happening more often lately with cold temps in michigan winter. Got up this morning with my kids to take them to school, got them in the car and the door would not stay closed (rear passenger). Checked the latches, the mechanics seemed to be working (handle, etc. ) but I could not get the door to stay closed. Happens on the doors (all 4) and the tailgate (tailgate would not open).

5 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the tailgate slightly detached from the vehicle on its own. The failure damaged the wiring cable on the rear of the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the computer wires that were damaged needed to be replaced first in order to properly diagnose the tailgate failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but the contact had not received a response. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

6 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

Bought f150 in fall of 2015, first few days of cold weather my back passengers doors would not close. They just kept bouncing back at me. Did that a few times didn't think that much about it. Next fall season of 2016 I haven't been able to open my rear doors on my 55,000 vehicle for the past 4 months. Now my tailgate won't open up either! what a joke. Took it to Ford dealer and told me it would be at least 1 month before parts would come in there on back order! so Ford knows about the problem but won't do anything about it. Salesman offered me some rope to tie the doors shut so they wouldn't open up!!!!!!!! how about that for a safety concern. $55,000 vehicle and they offer me rope to keep my doors closed. I can't put me kids on the truck can't use my vehicle for ways I intended for the past 5 months yet I keep paying my payments of this. What a joke. Just tried to open my tailgate yesterday and the lock mechanism isn't even triggering the lock in the tailgate, its seized up can't use that now either. Someone needs to do something about this.
