When towing a trailer and you come to a stop, the engine shuts off displaying "auto stop/start shift to p then restart engine". When you restart the engine it immediately dies again. You are left with disabled power steering, disabled power brakes, and have to rev up the engine while keeping one foot on the brakes, and slam it into gear to try to get moving, all while towing a large trailer behind you and typically in an intersection. . This is a very dangerous situation. Ford is aware of the problem, but will not do anything to fix it, even if you bring your truck to their service center reporting the problem. There is an ntsb bulletin describing the problem and required repair, # 18-2249, but Ford does not perform the work unless you provide a copy of the bulletin and insist on the work being done. This ntsb bulletin needs to be a recall! this is a very dangerous driving situation which needs to be corrected.
Vehicle shut off while driving 30 mph down the highway. Dash display said auto shutoff, shift to park and restart. The auto shutoff was disabled when this happened.
The vehicle was stopped at a traffic light and the automatic engine shut off engage. When the brake was release the engine did not start and a message flashed on the information center. Can not quote you the exact message because it was morning rush hour and a line of vehicles were behind me anxious to move. The message was instructions was to place the vehicle in park and restart the engine. This resolved the situation but the engine should have restarted without having to place the vehicle in park.
Using the auto start system, the vehicle shut off normally at a stop light but did not restart. The vehicle died and had to be restarted manually, causing vehicles behind me to suddenly brake in anticipation of me going forward.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. While driving 3 mph and approaching a stop sign, the automatic engine shut off engaged when the brake pedal was released. Upon releasing the brake pedal, the steering wheel suddenly seized. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,459. The VIN was not available.
With auto stop/start disabled using the dash control, the engine shut down while moving on a city street in traffic during a slow-speed 90 right-hand turn. The on-dash message referenced either the auto shutdown or auto start/stop function stopping the engine and instructed that the vehicle be placed in park to restart. The vehicle did restart after coming to a complete stop and placing the transmission in park. Vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. They reported that no diagnostic trouble codes were present in the system and that the problem could not be replicated after "several" test drives.
While coming to a stop, the engine shut off and a message displayed that the engine auto start/stop function was engaged, put the vehicle in park, and re-start engine. This was with the auto start/stop feature already disengaged, which I always do. It is very dangerous for your engine to cut off while driving and have to stop, put it in park, and re-start it in moving traffic. I have read multiple reports of this same problem on several forums. Vehicle is a 2018 Ford f150 XLT, 5. 0 engine, had about 4000 miles on it.
