My Ford f150 began to have two distinct rattles at about 1 year old and 15,000 miles. One rattle happens when my foot comes off the gas and sounds like a flutter like something is loose. The other rattle happens at 1500 rpm and sounds like a metal on metal or a chain rattle. This happens on public paved streets. The Ford dealership verified my concern with both noises and worked with Ford with more than 10 attempted repairs. I have the list of attempted repairs that I can share but they include chain tensioners replacement, exhaust inspection, reprogram, phasers replacement, transmission replacement, and vct solenoids replacement. Neither the dealership nor Ford knows what is wrong but claims it is a "common characteristic" after over 35 total days of attempting to be repaired over several months. I am not the only f150 owner with this problem. Without knowing what is wrong with the truck, I do not know it is safe to drive. I contacted bbb who verified that I am not eligible for the lemon law and advised me to contact your organization to address my safety concern. I did not get anything in writing that says the truck is safe to drive and that worries me.
2018 Ford f150 VIN 1ftfw1eg8jfc21395 this has the eco-boost v6 3. 5l engine in it. Last October 2019 the engine started rattling at startup. I brought this to dealership (fx caprara Ford pulaski, NY) and it was determined that the cam phasers & tensioners were bad and required replacing. This would be done under warranty. They ordered the parts and informed me that the parts were on back order. It took 2 1/2 months for parts to arrive at the dealership. I brought the truck in on Feb 11th for repair and was told would take 3 days to complete. On Feb 17th according to dealership 4 of the parts were mis-labelled and had to be ordered again. As of today Feb 25 I still do not have my truck back. Was told parts are unavailable for at least next 3 weeks as Ford is having a problem sourcing the parts. My truck is currently at dealership with engine dis-assembled. After a search of internet found f150 forum which has stories of several hundred people having same engine rattle requiring cam phasers & tensioners to be replaced and parts either not available or takes months to get. Ford refuses to admit there is a problem with this engine. I have called the Ford company as long as truck has less than 60k miles it is covered under warranty but not after. They are refusing to extend the warranty on the repair. I believe that Ford needs to recall this model engine and replace it to resolve this problem.
When starting engine it will hit very hard sound like the transmission but in fact is chain tensioner. Took to dealer and they said that there seeing a lot of these issues with the 5. 0 this needs addressed as I'm luck enough that it was still under warranty.
