1. Vehicle accelerates on its own when shifting into drive and releasing the brake. 2. Vehicle lunges forward when the transmission is shifting from 1st to 2nd gear or 2nd to 3rd gear. This occurs in the lower gears only. 3. Doesn't shift into the next higher gear and the rpm's are running high which should activate a gear change but it doesn't occur. 4. The rpm's are increasing but there is very little movement of the vehicle. It feels like the transmission is slipping. 5. These problems are not consistent. It may occur once a week or 3 times a week. These problems go away if I stop moving and return the vehicle to the park position and they have never occurred over 40 mph.
The vehicle as of 12/9/2023 at 3:00pm cst is at a mileage of 79,503. We are consistently experiencing the slipping of gears when the truck is switched from park to drive. The first couple gears seem to slip as it accelerates. The speedometer will be showing at under 10mph, and the truck will jerk forward. The engine/transmission gets loud as if the car is still in a lower gear as it’s accelerating. While it’s jerking and making the loud noise, the speedometer will not go over 10mph. We are concerned that it is a problem with the powertrain control module. It seems to happen when the shift lever is moved from park to drive, possibly it causes a loss of gear indication on the instrument cluster display and a momentary selection of an unintended gear, such as reverse or neutral before the vehicle achieves the drive function. We have a column shifter.
While traveling on a straight and level interstate freeway with the cruise-control set to 75mph. A huge loss of power followed by a hard downshift from 10th to 7th, up to 9th and attempting to shift back into 10th before I decided to reduce speeds and pull over because it was very dangerous surging/uncontrollable for moments for myself and those driving around me. I noted smoke pouring out from behind the vehicle and that the transmission temp was at 226f. No warning lamps/messages or other sysmptoms noted. Once pulled over, I inspected the underside of the vehicle and noted the whole underside coated in automatic transmission fluid (red in color). The fluid seemed to trace back to just before the engine/transmission interface. Transmission was serviced 7k miles prior. Dealer advised (through email correspondence) that I let the vehicle/transmission cool down and can then continue to drive the vehicle as the atf foams up/ expanding and spills out of the transmission vent tube. If problems persist to bring in the vehicle for inspection.
While driving down the highway at the speed limit (75 mph), my truck suddenly lost power and partially lost braking. The engine was still running but was running at an idle speed rpm. Both an audible voice and a message on the driver information panel said "drive mode not available, service is needed" braking power was partially lost at the same time. Steering power seemed normal but braking power was also partially lost at the same time. My truck started slowing down, obviously, and as soon as a shoulder was available, I pulled over onto the shoulder and let my vehicle speed decrease. I only had partial braking power (I estimate less than 30%) so was unable to quickly come to a full stop. As my truck slowed to a speed of about 5 mph, it suddenly started working again, although an icon shaped like a wrench appeared at the bottom center of the driver information panel. At the same time of the issue described above, the air conditioning and air blower fully stopped at the same time, and the multifunction display used for audio and navigation went blank for a moment and reset itself. When it came back on the navigation portion of the screen gave a "gps faulted" error. I was able to finish driving to work, where I parked the vehicle. Later, after work, and after the vehicle had been parked for several hours, the truck behaved normally, the wrench icon was gone and there was no indication at all that there had been any issue. I was in congested traffic at the time of the event and it could have resulted in a serious highway traffic accident involving multiple vehicles.
Problem with speed control, will not turn on sometimes, turns off by itself while being used and then can not be turned back on. Sometimes after it shuts off while using it will let you use the resume button but you can not adjust the speed and after using it like this it will shut off again and then it will not rest until you turn off the engine and restart it , then the whole process starts over again or not because it will not turn on at all. This problem started may 2022 and has persisted til now June 2023 Ford dealers are no help just want your money with no fix should be a recall.
I own a 2018 rwd Ford F-150 3. 5l ecoboost engine. Over the last few months I’ve noticed increased engine noise, particularly with cold start ups (in the morning) and more recently every time I start the engine, which may be a result of the cam phaser csa/fsa recall currently out for my model truck/engine. Along with this, a couple weeks ago the cold start rattling is accompanied with a low whistle. Now, my primary complaint and major safety concern is with the transmission/engine. Roughly 6-7 weeks ago the engine start upshifting quite hard, I learned that the rpms will skyrocket to 4. 5-6. 5k to let me know it’s about to hardshift, with a lack of gear shift or gain of speed regardless of gas-pedal pressure until the engine suddenly upshifts to the 5th or 6th gear. This usually ends up with a squealing of my rear tires. Now, over the last 3-4 weeks it has now progressed to poor gear shifting in general; it feels like I’m in a stick shift vehicle with someone who can’t drive a stick shift properly. Also, been gears 1-3 the upshift and downshift will be accompanied with abnormal shift and a “shuddering” of the engine felt throughout the truck. The one, and hopefully last, and reason for my complaint was a scary experience with this poor, extremely hard/aggressive, upshifting nearly causing me to have an accident. I was first in line to turn left at an arrow; the turn would end with my forward direction being near true westbound. It turned green, pressed the gas pedal, and the engine remained in 2nd gear for roughly 8-10 seconds before it vehemently upshifted to 6th gear causing my tires to burn out and actually turned my truck so that the tailgate was nearly facing the southbound traffic/direction…the entire scenario took long enough for the southbound light to turn green. I’ve never had such horrendous malfunctioning of a vehicles engine/transmission before and I know my complaint(s) are one of near thousands of similar Ford models. This needs to be a major Ford recall.
I’ve been having whistling/rattling in my truck for the last couple of weeks. Tried to make an appointment with my local dealer for the cam phaser csp out by Ford for 2018, and other, year models with this issue among other transmission/powertrain issues/problems/defects. I was at a stop light with a red light and waiting for my green left turn arrow. Left turn arrow turned green and I stepped on the gas; my rpms skyrocketed, stayed in gear 2, and was traveling between 5-10 mph. After roughly 100ft, the transmission switched gears from 2 to 6th gear and the turbos kicked in and I ended up slamming my head in to my steering wheel. This was the last/final straw. The engine has been questionable at best the last couple months and this was the first time I’ve felt like I am no longer driving the safe, reliable vehicle I thought I had purchase. I have a service appointment scheduled with one of my local dealerships. I hope they fix this issue because if they don’t/these life endangering transmission/powertrain issues persist I will be hiring a lawyer and fighting for lemon law.
Unknown mykey has me hostage. When I purchased my vehicle they only had 1 key. Not realizing that setting up the mykey for my vehicle, I would be putting myself and others that drive on the road with me grave danger. I purchased my truck in March of 2019 and I the fall of 2021 I didn’t think nothing of it by setting up the mykey for my Ford F-150. Well without further a due I realized that the restrictions that the mykey puts on there owners. Driving on the freeway or anywhere one may have to pass another vehicle quickly . Hang onto your hat because the speedometer stops at 80 and you just might find yourself between an on coming vehicle and the vehicle you were trying to get around before he thought about not allot you to… in the last 15 months there’s been to many near misses because of the mykey restrictions on my speedometer… Ford says they can’t turn the mykey off without another key…. They ant my to pay $400. 00 for a spare key… they need an administration mykey key & standard mykey key to delete the mykey functions. Now to me, that doesn’t make since what so ever to be able to set up the mykey function with only 1 key when you need 2 to defunction them.
1. Unknown/ sometimes while driving the vehicle will try to bog down and rapidly loose power and then will pick up power as if its being starved for either fuel or power. 2. Rear door open indicator/ my indicator light is on and it is saying that the rear door is open. My grandchildren ride in the rear seat of my truck and may be at risk of the door flying open. It also sets my alarm off over in the night time because the system is saying that the door is open.
The vehicle has 2 speedometer. A digital and an analog one. The analog speedometer does not measure the speed correctly. It stays stuck at 60,80,100 mph when the truck is stopped.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 55 mph with the Smart cruise engaged, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The vehicle was taken to corwin Ford nampa (5707 e. Gate blvd, nampa, id 83687, (208) 546-3559) but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 11,000.
When shifting into 4th gear the vehicle will shift roughly almost as a brake tap before automatically increasing on its own to 25-28mph. This even occurs with speed control on. All of this occurs while in motion on city streets and entering highways. This has been occurring for the past 8 months. Every time the vehicle is in motion.
Transmission. It slips and jumps gears, lags, doesn't engage from a stop for a few seconds, downshifts itself while driving down the highway, at parking lot speeds the engine will rev up and lurch forward. It has been inspected by a local dealership and confirmed that there is an internal problem and recommended new transmission for $7500. They have been in contact with Ford CO, as have I, making a formal complaint which Ford is not owning the problem completely. The truck has 53,000 miles on it with perfect maintenance records. Safety issue is that the truck downshifts at highway speed. Rev's and jumps in parking lots which could cause an accident or worse. . . Strike a pedestrian. The truck lags from a stop which could be dangerous when pulling into traffic. This is a documented issue with Ford vehicles, mostly in the 3. 5 eco-boost 10 speed trucks but I believe in possibly some of their others. From day 1 of ownership I noticed something odd which I made it known to the dealership when it went in for service on several occasions. The dealer could never duplicate the issue. In November 2023 the issue got very bad with all that was mentioned in the opening sentence. The dealership had confirmed that there are issues with this truck/transmission and they have a service bulletin on the issues. There are multiple Ford forums online with people who all have the same issue with this truck/transmission. There haven't been any warning lamps to indicate but as mentioned this has been a problem since the purchase and now although it's marginally drivable, the issue has become significant and dangerous. The date below was from the time I have an email documenting the issue to the dealership. As mentioned, it was an ongoing issue to lesser degree but the larger failure started in mid November 2023. That puts me about 4-5 months outside of my 5 year warranty but inside my 60k. Regarding documentation below: anything of value has been on the phone.
When starting my F-150 there's was a loud pop I suddenly turned off the vehicle then turned it on again but it did not make any odd noises. When pulling out of the parking lot acceleration was acting up o heard another pop and my vehicle suddenly went into limp mode slowing my vehicle way down causing me to nearly get rear ended. From there I managed to coast into a parking lot and called a tow truck. When the tow truck dropped off the vehicle the guy at the dealership said that I was acting fine but they would keep it a couple days but since it isn't acting up there wasn't much they could do. The truck is a year old and only has 5. 300 miles.
The first time the acceleration on my f150 stuck, I was on a country road. I was braking on a down hill to a stop sign. I made sure I was not double peddling and then slamed down on the brake peddle. I had plenty of space before the stop sign and slamming the brake regained the control. I did not report this to my Ford dealer. I did not know that it would be an issue. Approximately 4 months later the truck did it again. This time I was backing up and had my foot on the brake peddle again. I did not have enough time or space to regain control and I struck a tree, which stopped the vehicle. It caused major damage to the tailgate, bumper, light assembly, and passenger side bed fender. I parked the truck and walked away for several hours. When my husband went to move the truck, the brake peddle sank straight to the floor, like there was a lot of brake peddle movement and no brake pressure. I do not believe the gas peddle was sticking, more like the computer was accelerating when the gas was not engaged. My Ford dealership ran diagnostics that day and it had no code issues. Ford legal retained the truck and ran diagnostics again 3 months later and again no codes. Still do not have an answer to what caused the acceleration issue. Ford said there was no issue with the braking system. I would very much like to know if there has been similar occurrences with other 2018 f150's.
While driving down interstate 10, my transmission abruptly downshifted to 1 at ~55 mph!! this was the worst of several instances of the transmission either failing to shift properly or jerking the vehicle when shifting gears. I've also had the vehicle stuck in 2nd gear while trying to enter the freeway. The dealership and Ford motor company show no concern as they rely on service codes instead of road tests and customer input. I hope I'm able to get another vehicle from a manufacturer I can trust. It's unfortunate because I have owned Ford F-150s for the past 6 years and driven them since high school. This new 10-speed transmission should've never been released to the public. I see others are having the same issue so hopefully a class action lawsuit is soon to follow!.
Danger!! potential extreme injury or death possible. These issues must be addressed by Ford. Vehicle speed control:engine accelerating on its own when in reverse. Braking: would slow down but will accelerate when brake was released upon reverse. Upon reversing up an uphill local side street driveway, braking, and releasing the brake, the vehicle accelerated in less than one second at a tremendous speed. When the vehicle was put into drive from reverse, the engine created a high-pitched whining sound. Had there been the children in the driveway, they would have been killed. There is also a whining sound from the engine when it is running. Changing gear from reverse to drive: engine creates a high-pitched whining sound reverse up a slight hill: reversing up a small hill immensely accelerates on its own. We notified the dealership when we received the vehicle, but it was not corrected.
Tl-the contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that due to the auto stop/start feature installed on the vehicle, when attempting to move from a light to make a right turn, there was a delay in the power steering feature. Keller Ford inc located at 3385 alpine Ave NW, grand rapids, mi 49544, (616) 784-6600, was contacted and informed of the failure. The manufacturer was also informed of the failure, case number: cas-17380347-f3k9t3. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000. Ah.
Stalls while merging with traffic. Then rpms raise and truck slams violently into gear. Extremely unsafe! numerous complaints to Ford. To no avail. Please help!.
February 28, 2019 started to pass another vehicle on the highway and my 2018 f150 stx just kept on accelerating on its own, I applied brakes and it would slow down but as soon as I stopped braking it started to accelerate again, it did this several times during braking, I finally had to turn the ignition off and pull over. I restarted the vehicle and the accelerator raced up again, I shut it off again and let it sit for a few minutes to reset to default. It was ok after that and has not happened since but I am waiting for the next event. This is a major safety hazard and should be investigated. Called hallada Ford in dodgeville WI. To let them know and there response was they were unaware of the problem, don't think I believe that!!.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to andy shaw Ford (1231 e main st, sylva, nc 28779, (828) 586-0900) where the contact was informed that the computer needed to be updated, but was unaware of the specifics. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
While driving on a city street the accelerator on my Ford F-150 began to accelerate on its own. I pressed the brake pedal to slow down but it only accelerated at a higher rate. I was able to put the shifter in neutral and pull over to a safe area, with the vehicle in neutral and my foot on the brake pedal the truck would continue to accelerate. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership because I was afraid to drive it, now the service department is saying that they cannot duplicate the problem when there obviously is a problem.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. While driving regularly and depressing the brake and accelerator pedals, the floormat moved out of position. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal seized due to the floormat being moved out of position. The contact stated that the hooks for the floormats were insufficient to keep the floormats in position. A dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.
I have had two run away full accelerations in this new truck. I accelerated firmly and the accelerator refused to disengage. At over 90 mphm I put the car in neutral, the rpm increased and I shut off the key. Next time in the same drive it happened again and I immediately shut off the key. I will notify my dealer tomorrow. I will not drive in this vehicle again. As an experienced commercial pilot I have been trained how to deal with this issue but the public has no clue what to do.
Engine revs up on it own: when driving at a speed ~ 10 mph down my graveled 600 feet driveway, the engine revs up, exceeding 6000 rpm. This has occurred on 5 occasions, twice in November and three times in December, latest being 12/24/2018. I had the vehicle less than 5 months with 3300 miles on it. I noted when it occurs, it's when the vehicle is first started up. The rear tires dig in and start spinning, throwing gravel. Pressing the brake and coming to a complete stop lower the rpm and settle the engine down. This could be a accident waiting to happen in highway or busy city traffic. I've noted on carcomplaints. Com, several Ford f150 owners have this problem.
2,363 miles on the truck it downshifted on the hwy from 80 mph to 20 mph on its own, with a loud noise. Had to get in the slow lane so not to have a wreck. It is equipped with auto start, where the truck engine automatically stops at a stop sign or light and restarts on its own. The trucked shut itself off while in traffic and had to be put in park and restarted, almost causing a wreck. Took the truck back to the dealer again, when it made a loud noise and felt like we hit something when going 55 mph,the truck jolted we again got in the slow lane. Then when sitting in the driveway the motor started racing on its own not touching the excelerator. Had to turn off truck. We are afraid to take our grandkids in our new 2018 truck we are paying dearly for. The last time we took the truck to the dealer, they said there was nothing wrong with it. We are about to retire and wanted this truck to be our last, we have not even had it a year. We have done some checking online, we are not the only ones experiencing these types of problems.
I was headed home from work and my truck was stationary stopped at a stop light, and the automatic engine stop was active, with sync networked. A vehicle from behind ran into my 3 week old vehicle. The engine automatic start-stop sync started, and the engine raced to very high rpms. Throwing my head back into the headrest again. I had to press really hard upon the brakes to prevent my vehicle from slamming into the car ahead of me. At that moment my mind thought of the Toyota camry acceleration problem years ago, and upon the vehicle returning to normal idle rpms, I double checked that my foot was actually on the brake. My foot was actually on the brake.
