The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the front passenger's side and seat heater and cooler were inoperable. The contact stated that upon inspecting underneath the passenger's side seat, the contact noticed that the module wiring was burned and melted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the wiring and a connector underneath the front passenger's side seat had melted. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 120,000.

2 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/28/2021

While stationary (would also happen while in motion) in a parking lot with the engine running and driver and passenger seat heaters activated (driver on medium, passenger on high), a random clicking sound (believed to be the relay for the heated seats) was observed coming from under the passenger seat. It was then noticed that the heated seats were no longer functioning/providing heat, even though the lights on the controls were staying illuminated. A short while later, a burning (electrical) smell was observed in the cab, coming from the passenger side of the vehicle. Once the smell started getting stronger, the heated seats were turned off and the smell seemed to go away within 5-10 minutes. Upon arriving home, I inspected the seat heater control module (original Ford part number gu5t-14b663-aa) that is located under the front passenger seat. Upon inspection of this module, it was found that the bk-bu wire on the 12-pin c3265a connector had started to melt. Upon doing some investigation of this issue online, it was found that this is a widespread issue among many newer Ford vehicles that uses the same seat heater control module, and many other experienced this issue. This poses a major safety issue as it is a fire hazzard.

6 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/28/2015

My driver side seat heater would get really hot and eventually just quit working. I checked the obvious causes, (blown fuses & heating element connection) and found nothing wrong. I then decided to look online and noticed several individuals had experienced the same issue. The cause in many cases was the seat heating element (Ford part number 9l3z14d696c) had burnt up causing damage the seat foam and in some cases burnt the seat cover. I removed my seat to see if this was the same issue I was having and discovered the same issue many others had experienced (see attached pictures. ) I ordered the same part 9l3z14d696c for $30 from my local dealership and it¿s working again but for how long¿ I¿m surprised that Ford has not already addressed this issue. This definitely could have been a lot worse had the seat caught fire while I was driving, or while remote starting my truck (the seat heaters were set to come on when the truck was remote started. ) this is definitely an issue that should be looked into before it becomes a bigger issue in the future.

7 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

When you turn on the seat cooler, the bottom will cool while the back will get excessively hot; if left on long enough it could cause burns on someone, especially the elderly or those with thin skin. There is currently no recall or info from Ford on the issue.

8 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

The truck has malfunctioning climate controlled-massaging seats. The climate control does not work on the seats at all. My dealership looked it over today and confirmed that it was not working but then after two service reps could not find the problem they decided that since the truck has the massaging feature that the climate control must be disabled and will not work! I accepted this answer for a while and then decided that this is surely not the case or why else would the sales sheets say "climate controlled massaging seats"; not "climate controlled or massaging seats"? well I called the Ford support phone number and after much deliberation the representative told me that I should go to another dealership! I have since learned that this is a common issue to some degree on many year/model of Ford trucks. Considering that I just traded a 2014 Ford raptor for this truck and the climate controlled seats worked (although not considerably well) on it, I am very disappointed. The dealership that I purchased the truck from did not acknowledge this as being a problem but just a simple internet search yields thousands of complaints! the problem is so severe that when seat cooling is selected, after 10 minutes, the front seats reach even hotter temperatures rather than cooler. Ford seems to be unwilling to take care of this problem but continues to advertise the feature and selling their trucks as if nothing is wrong! something needs to be done about this issue.

9 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

Driver heated seat function was on while driving, suddenly there was a very hot spot felt under driver's left leg, then heated seat function then went off. Further attempts to operate the heated seat function resulted in a temporary illumination of the driver heated seat indicator, followed by an extinguishing of same indicator after about 1 second. The vehicle in question is no longer eligible for coverage under the 3/36,000 bumper to bumper portion of the Ford 2010 new vehicle limited warranty; therefore, the vehicle owner elected to perform his own investigation into the problem. The owner dismantled the driver seat and found burnt components in the vicinity of a failed wire that was part of the seat heater subsystem, all of this under the seat cover in an area that would have been underneath the left leg of the driver. The failure was identified as a burnt/charred wire that opened the circuit of the heated seat function. . Read more...

10 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/07/2014

My seat heater stopped working several months ago, I went to replace it today and found that the heat element had melted and turned black the seat cushion in the area of where it melted, I don't believe that there was actual fire but had the power not shut off I am sure that the seat would have caught fire.

11 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The driver's side seat heater quit working after my wife complained about it "getting so hot it was literally burning her legs". I took apart the seat today to replace the heating pad because I had read about this being a common problem. To my surprise my wife was not exaggerating. There were burn marks on the foam insulation around a connecting piece of the bottom seat heater. My truck is out of warranty, otherwise I probably would've just dropped it off at the dealer and never witnessed this myself.
