Ford F-150 owners have reported 140 problems related to seats (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford F-150 based on all problems reported for the F-150.
The seat track pivot link bolt has failed, yes it is available for inspection. The seat now has tons of travel in it, which will not restrain the driver in event of a crash. I have visual evidence of the part failure. The issue was part of a safety recall 17s40 which gwinnett place Ford claims to have addressed in 2024. The part has now failed.

Driver seat cushion. Vehicle has 1300 miles on it. Moved seat forward and the seat bottom is crooked which is very uncomfortable to drive now as it causes low back pain and is not good for a person like myself with lumbar fusion. Your left leg has no seating area other than your left leg is off the cushion and between door panel seat is probably 15 degrees to right from being centered. Tried to move seat forward and back and up and down with no results. Took back to dealer 6-10-2025 they supposedly looked at the seat track and see nothing wrong with it, without removing seat you would not be able to tell what is defective which dealer didn't do. Compared seat to 2025 model seat is straight. Reading the internet seems to be a manufacturing defect with seats on Ford f150. Can provide vehicle for inspection.

2010 Ford f150 only owner - brake calipers and break line failed. Took it into Ford dealership and they were unable to provide a diagnosis. Truck still shakes when in idle. All maintenance and needed care for the truck has been maintained. Repair cost over $4k to repair for 6 months in with the issue. Camera does not work and has not since 2014. Heated seats stopped working and burned out in 2014. All issues started to surface after truck was paid off. . . . Of course.

To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally report a recurring water intrusion issue with my vehicle, which poses a potential safety risk. Whenever it rains and the vehicle is parked outside, water consistently leaks into the passenger-side interior. While driving, especially during acceleration or braking, I can hear the sound of water moving within the passenger side area. Upon inspection, I have found water pooling in the front passenger footwell, where multiple electrical wires are located. Additionally, there is an electrical control box situated beneath the passenger seat that may also be exposed to moisture. I also discovered water leaking behind the rear seat area. This section contains two air vents, which may be contributing to the issue. The water intrusion raises serious concerns about electrical system integrity, especially given the presence of wiring and components in affected areas. Although my vehicle has not yet experienced electrical failure while driving, I am aware of multiple reports from other owners who have encountered similar leaks that led to sudden engine shutdowns, including while driving in traffic — a serious safety hazard. I brought my vehicle to the service center for evaluation, but as of now, I have not received any resolution or updates regarding a fix. I have several videos of the situation as well. Given the potential risk to both vehicle occupants and others on the road, I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter further to determine whether a recall or other safety action is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this serious issue.

The driver and passenger seats continuously keep self adjusting without the memory seat option in my vehicle. When readjusting back to position I hear popping. I feel like it’s either an electrical problem or adjustment mechanism stripping out! I’ve talked to several people in different forums with the same issue and thought we was just losing our minds!.

The engine system on this vehicle experienced multiple failures, including severe knocking, power loss, and potential oil-related malfunctions. Despite repeated service visits to the authorized Ford dealership, the problem persisted. The dealership performed multiple repairs, but the issue was never fully resolved. The vehicle has been undrivable for over a year, during which I have had to rely on rental cars, borrowed vehicles, and eventually purchased cash vehicles to commute — all while continuing to pay for the truck. This is a severe financial and safety burden for a vehicle sold as reliable. To this day, no clear resolution has been offered, and Ford’s internal support has repeatedly deflected responsibility or referred me to scripted call center processes. The vehicle remains parked, unable to be driven due to fear of catastrophic failure or causing harm to myself or others on the road. The engine should be fully inspected, and the failure reported as part of a broader pattern I believe exists across other vehicles with this powertrain. There were early warning lights, knocking, and oil issues documented during dealer visits. The dealer acknowledged repeated service cases but failed to offer a true fix or replacement. This is more than mechanical failure — it’s a consumer safety and engineering accountability issue. I urge NHTSA to investigate the root cause and assess whether a broader recall or investigation is warranted.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the front driver's seat became unstable and was moving unintendedly. Upon inspection it was discovered that the front driver’s side seat mounting bolt had become unscrewed causing the side of the seat to move. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 76,600.
The rear seat not lock in seat position its very dangerous in accident. Another problem ist when the transmmission decelerate she past the 3 at 1 speed dirrectly and a knoging in the transmission. Can you expect that please.
The rear seats in the vehicle lock in the folded up position, requiring a cloth tab to be pulled to release them down, however the rear seats do not require the same action to fold up. Having the seats fold up on their own seems like a safety concern in roll-over scenarios.

This issue is related to safety recall #17s40 involves over 177,000 2016 F-150 pickup trucks and explorer SUV's with power seats. A defectively placed bolt in the sliding track that holds the front-row power seats in place may allow the seats to move more than they should during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to any front-seat passengers. My truck's recall was serviced by riverbend Ford in 2018, but the seat has failed again. I have taken my truck to hardy family Ford. My complaint is Ford motor company should repair this safety recall free of charge to hardy family Ford and me. I should not have to pay the expenses for this Ford manufactured defect. Can you help resolve? my name is ron henderson, and my contact number is 229-254-5691.
My upholstery of the drivers seat was worn out, so I had it replaced. When the mechanic pulled off the old upholstery, he found that the seat frame was broken in two places. I was then told by the service writer that this is a safety issue and that they are required to not release my vehicle back to me, due to the severity of the safety of the driver. He told me that the seat could break loose from the truck in event of a collision. - I have saved the damaged component - there was no indication or warning that this component failed.

I purchased a brand new metallic blue 2022 Ford f150 XLT supercrew fx4 off road edition from greenway Ford in orlando, FL on January 24 2023. I traded in a blue 2014 Ford f150 XLT that I had owned for 10 years and was for the most part, a reliable vehicle that I loved. The odometer on the new f150 read ~124 miles on it at the time of purchase. After several months into owning the vehicle the rear passenger window malfunctioned and would not go up. I took it to greenway Ford and they repaired it in a day under warranty and I didn’t think anything of it. As we entered the florida rainy season the truck developed a very faint musty smell. After several weeks of hard rains at the beginning of November 2023, I started to hear water sloshing along the sides of the truck. After inspecting the carpets under the floor mats I found them to be completely soaked. I took the truck to greenway Ford service center where they informed me that the windshield was not installed properly from the factory when the vehicle was built and has been accumulating water and not draining properly. I'm very concerned that there is mold in the vehicle as it still smells. The abs sensors were also not calibrated.
The transmission slips and jumps into different gears while driving. When applying the accelerator from a stop the truck will not move due to it being in 7th gear, when it finally decides to move it shifts hard jolting the truck. The electric driver seat moves around, it is not stable.
Gps/ radio failing, under warranty Ford tried to fix, needs a new radio but doesn't know when they can get one. Also cruse control not functioning properly- Ford dealer replaced steering wheel buttons but on one occasion when pushing the reduce speed button the truck kept accelerating to 10 miles above speed limit before it disengaged. Ford garage said if they can't get it to repeat this problem, they can't fix it. Drivers seat when parked reclines on its own, again garage could not get it to repeat the problem so not fixed. Possible emergency brake recall. Truck gives no fault codes. Was told not to use cruse control but then if it doesn't repeat the problem Ford won't fix it. I and my wife no longer feel safe in the truck and am trying to get Ford to buy it back. No paperwork given at the time of repairs because they could fix nothing. Spitzer Ford in dubois is the garage I used. 3 year original truck warranty will soon expire, I believe in September or early October of 2023.

Sent truck in to randall reed Ford for service recall truck sat unattended for a week with same recall defect no repairs made.
The rear seats, which I put my grandchildren in, are at different angles. One sits about two inches below the other. The dealer said, "sometimes they are just like that" and Ford said talk to the dealer. I have to believe this creates safety issues for my grandchildren, and I need your help in getting Ford to address the issue.
Shaft rattle on cold start up- started around 140,000 miles- safety issue *vacuum pump leaking causing other unknown problems, when running the heater and a/c, blows strong cloud of exhausted in the passengers face- safety and health issue *driver seat will not move- checked all power and seat motor- no issues found. Dealerships unable to figure out issue. First the problem was intermittent now no movement - safety issue * a/c will not blow cold air, everything else works correct, full charge, fuse etc. Unable to find the issue. Intermittent issues. Safety issue - unknow if this is causing the problem most of these issues are not throwing check engine light, they only say to check voltage. I have contacted several dealerships who agree that this is a on going issue with this make, model and several years. Ford found the issue and corrected on newer model but refuses to help with the ones on the road.

Heated and cooling seat buttons for the front seats and heated seats for the rear indicates power being fed and luminated. Fuse for the climate control on seats is operational, however no heat and no cooling. Checked the heated and cooling module under passenger front seat and disconnected harness to find the top wiring pig tail as you look at it burnt. Terminals on module burnt. Apparently on the Ford F-150 forum numerous members have the same problem. I have found the module and pigtail available, however I don't want to change it to prevent voiding possible safety recall. Will notify the dealership on March 6, 2023 at (dick smith Ford), columbia s. C. . Gds. . .

The rear bench seats in my super crew cab f150 do not lock when in the down/seated position. However, on page 154 of the owners manual it states the the following: returning the seat to the seating position warning make sure that cargo or any objects are not trapped underneath the seat cushion before returning the seat cushion to its original position, and that the seat cushion locks into place. Failure to do so may prevent the seat from operating properly in the event of a crash, which could increase the risk of serious injury. I have tried to contact Ford many times about this conflicting info. Took my truck to a dealership and they didn't think the seats locked down but couldn't provide any guidance why the manual states otherwise. My main safety concern is if its safe to have someone seated in the back seats if the seats don't lock down. Especially, a child seat.
March 13th. I was driving on county road 6, south of park rapids, minnesota, and noticed smoke coming from my coat laying on the passenger seat, I removed the coat and found smoke/flames coming out of the passenger seat. I stopped the truck, ran around to the door of the passenger seat, turned off the seat warmer, and put the fire out. The seat warmer failed and is available for inspection. I have disconnected the seat warmer. March 15th. I brought the vehicle to north country Ford service manager and they did not know how to report it, didn't seem to think it was serious, and wanted me to pay $144 for them to look at it. March 16th called Ford corporate. They started a case #cas35878378 with chelse david.
On 12/06/2021 at approximately 0205, my f150 was rear ended while stop at a light my vehicle was totaled and I noticed the seat back broke and was touching the rear seat and angled to the left. I tried to straighten the seat back up to remove my work bag that was pinned behind it and the seat was locked in place. I researched and found a consumer report article from Ford dated October 2019 that stated the 3rd prong is missing from the seat on the f150’s from 2018-2020 and can cause injuries in a vehicle crash.
My 2020 Ford F-150 crew cab XLT with 38000 miles had a seat failure on may 05, 2021 when I hit a pothole on I-75 near lexington ky while traveling 70 miles per hour. I could eaisly see over steering wheel with my 5'2" height since our purchase of this family hauler vehicle many months ago. At the impact of small pothole the seat dropped about 3 inches, I had to pull up with my arms on steering wheel to see out windshield to make it to shoulder. I piled coats under me to make it home. My husband and I found broken plastic under seat? I weigh 105 lbs and my husband weighs 205 lbs. I find it hard to believe the seat in a 50,000 dollar truck would be made of cheap plastic and fail that easy. Repair shop advised this is common in new Ford trucks. Very unsafe!.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle drove over a small bump in the roadway causing the front driver's seat reclining assembly to malfunction and causing the driver to sink into the seat. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer planet Ford located at 20403 I-45, spring, TX 77388 and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 16v475000 (seats). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 53,000.
While parked, during automatic start, with vehicle warming up a smell of burning plastic was encountered when entering the vehicle. Investigation revealed the connector melting on the right seat temperature control module gu5t-14b663-aa located under the seat on the front passenger side.
This vehicle does not come with a seat height adjustment. All vehicles should come with seat height adjustment, a manual one is fine. People that are shorter especially driving an F-150 must be able to see safely. We have many expensive safety features come standard but sadly are omitting a $10 addition that greatly improves driveability.
My rpm kneedle pop off. My seats are tearling.
Seat back with an improperly assembled recliner mechanism not adequately restrain the recliner mechanisms may be missing the third pawl required for seat back strength, resulting in a loose seat transmission shifts extremely hard. It clunks most of the time when I turn the vehicle on. Often, when I shift from park to drive the trunk lurches forward even with my foot pressed down all the way on the break. It's in the Ford dealer right now and all they can find is low transmission fluid. Although I've never had a warning light or anything on before. Dropping from 10th gear to 5th gear when cruise is set and accelerator is pressed truck will set advanced traction control warning off and slam so hard into 5th gear you are destructed looking to see if you were in a accident. . I have videos that were provided to Ford motor company and have had in 2 Ford dealership s 3 times for repairs. Ford motor company has 2 engineer cases opened on truck the second case they told dealership it was my fault with the abrupt shifting slamming and traction control warning at 72 mph on interstate. Ford refuses to address the safety issue. It is a hazard to me and passengers in my vehicle as well as the motoring public. Ford motor company has been notified they can assume liability if I am in a accident and someone is injured due to their negligence or refusal to fix defect. Truck has had issues since around 3500 on the odometer it now has 16,567 miles currently. This as well as any other erratic shifting complaints with said 10r180 should be fully investigated and taken seriously because it will and I am sure has contributed to crashes!!!! the vehicle has the technology package which allows you to start /stop the vehicle with an app in your phone. I assume the motor has bluetooth attached to it. The problem is that when your driving the vehicle will just shut down. Once this happens you have to stop the vehicle, put it in park, and restart the engine.
Missing/loose bolts under driver seat makes the seat wobbly/ also loose bolts on the reclining back makes it shift/reclines further back.
Front left mounting bolt on the drivers seat fell out causing the seat to rock backwards while in motion. Rocking is worst at times of acceleration or braking.
The vehicle does not have heated seats. The passenger seat heats up to an unconfirmed level causing your lower back and butt to burn. Concerned this may cause a fire under passenger in seat.

I was driving on freeway when a car that was traveling in an excess of 80+ miles and rear-ended my 2002 Ford f 150. My truck was totaled and my drivers seat back frame broke from right side and none of my airbags deployed. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days. I had a concussion, neck injury, knees and re-injured my back. I was lucky to be alive.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the automatic cruise control would not operate as needed. He stated that while in automatic cruise control mode, the vehicle would accelerate without warning with a stopped vehicle ahead of him. The contact also mentioned that the driver's front seat would slide backwards without warning while driving at various speeds. The contact had taken the vehicle to corwin Ford nampa (5707 e gate blvd, nampa, id 83687) where he was informed that the mechanic was unable to detect any failures with the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 11,000.
Multiple issues with vehicle infotainment system. Replaced twice. Rear parking camera malfunctioing after two replacements. Whenever there is rain fall water leaks into the driver's side floor. This has caused major rust build up. Vehicle has only 3k miles on it.
