1 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/21/2025

Back up camera and warning stop not working while backing up. Most f150 pick ups are in the recall but mine is not for some reason even though it fails almost every time I back up. There is many children using the side walks in my neighbor hood creating a serious situation.

2 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/28/2025

Uncommand downshift of the transmission at 50mph causing the rear wheels to skid. This was accompanied by “blind spot system fault”, “cross traffic system fault”, “see manual” warnings and a loss of transmission position indications (ie. . P-r-n-d-m-2-1). This appears to be similar to NHTSA recal # 24s37 for 2014 F-150’s.

3 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

2016 f150 lariat - backup camera warning system is not working. Safety issue - when the vehicle transmission is placed in reverse the backup camera does not function. The touch screen in the cab displays a blue screen with the words "please check surroundings for safety". The camera image displaying the rear area behind the vehicle should be displayed in the touch screen in the cab. This backup camera warning system malfunction has recently been reported and included in a large recall including 2017 vehicles but does not include the 2016 vehicles.

4 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

6 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/07/2025

I took my 2016 Ford F-150 lariat in for repairs. I was getting a dash light on blind spot warning and cross traffic warning. My service advisor called and told me I needed a battery junction box but that part was no longer available and that my truck will begin to break down. It only has 46,611 miles and otherwise in excellent condition. I can't believe Ford does not have access the this part to fix my truck. Any suggestions?.

7 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/03/2025

I had a rear view camera problem where the screen went blue on my f150. No picture or beeps. I paid over $800 for software and hardware repairs and now there is a recall. Conveniently my VIN is not included even though I have the same repairs I had to pay for. Reciepts from Ford dealership available.

8 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/07/2025

Rear view camera used to glitch when put in reverse. Now it goes completely black (or blue) when vehicle is in reverse. There was a recall on this involving 2021 and newer models but I believe this problem goes back even further. Because it’s a truck, I have a huge blind spot in the back when reversing and I worry mostly about a potential accident involving property, persons, or even my own children. It’s very unsafe. I want to note that I was in contact with Ford customer service but they said that my vehicle wasn’t covered under the recall and that there was nothing they can do for me.

9 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/14/2024

Since I purchased the vehicle I have found numerous it’s that are claimed as recommended fixes as the dealer has told me. And now that I keep seeing the rear camera show up for recalls is what made me mad enough to write this. My vehicle has the rear camera that will go off and either not show anything as if I was not in reverse which I am at the time, or it just shows a blue screen. And I have seen other people complain about this on youtube for my model/year. Also the transmission lead frame which they did end up actually saying when it went that there was a recall for this, but if a certain code supposedly didn’t show up on the code reader it was not covered under the warranty. Which of course mine did not have the correct code so I had to pay out of pocket. But coincidentally when I picked it up they said they gave me a discount which everyone knows when a dealer states something they are charging there is no change in the price, but that went from $1150 to $850 I believe. Also the timing chain is known to jump and cause engine failure. Next this stuff may not have to do with safety so I’m sure you will also deny responsibility for is the rear main seal is known to leak. The turbo leaks behind the passenger side front tire. And the driverside back split power heated window is known to shatter. Can anyone tell me how all these can be on the internet as problems and “recommended fixes” then now the new ones get recalls for the same issues and mine is not covered and the new ones are. Yes you can look them all up and see them for yourself. When I found the back window one I was looking to find out how to replace it myself when the first video that showed up was a guy saying he did the same thing looking for how to fix it, and seen videos of people saying that it is a recommended fix for Ford. The only receipts I may have, I will look is for the transmission lead frame and the one for the back window. I will look for them. The other problems still.

10 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/12/2024

While driving at 60 mph on highway my transmission will switch from drive into neutral and alternate in from drive to neutral randomly. Crash prevention sensors stop working at the same time. This causes safety issues for me and passengers as I am not able to control speed. It shifts out of high gear into a lower gear and feels like it is only operable in this one gear. Unable to tell which gear because the gear indicator lights on dash stop working during this time. Many warning icons pop up on dash readout during this (check engine, wrench, cross traffic collision, lane assist, etc. ) I see on the internet this problem is extremely common due to the 6r80 transmission molded lead frame failure which has been involved in millions of recalls but for some reason not my vehicle. This is extremely dangerous and could be life threatening to my auto occupants and others in traffic. I have an appointment to have it looked at by my dealer where I purchased the vehicle new in 2015.

11 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/03/2024

Power train failed and truck began to jerk and I lost control of the throttle. I had to throw myself (the truck) on the shoulder to avoid danger. Blinking lights on the dash board occurred. San leandro Ford diagnosed issue as bad transmission and replaced it in November 2024. Inspected on site by authorized dealer. Told me customer problem must pay to have it replaced!! when I tried contacting national Ford representative and bill brandt dealership in brentwood where purchased in oct. 2016, no one wanted to take responsibility.

12 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/03/2024

Driving vehicle after about 20min of run time the transmission downshifts hard and all or most driver assistance feature warnings alert they are not functioning. Engine rpms raise but vehicle does not move. Vehicle got stranded on busy road during rush hour with no ability to move on its' own. Check engine light and other warnings on dashboard. Later diagnosis with a scan tool and pin point testing verified that the lead frame inside the transmission has failed at 80k miles. More concerning than early failure is the safety problem this poses. Braking, steering, and propulsion are all affected significantly! once vehicle is stopped and put into park it won't shift or start again. Also if the vehicle is in park when symptoms are present any input on the gas pedal raises and holds the engine rpm at redline/rev-limiter for approximately 5 seconds. Tps sensors and throttle body are all functioning properly.

13 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

While driving at approximately 35 mph, the blind spot warning and rear traffic warning system indicated that there was a failure to the system. I parked the truck and then tried to restart the vehicle. The truck would not start. When it was diagnosed at the dealer, they found a faulty lead frame in the transmission. This part was then replaced. I have checked with Ford and my vehicle is not being recalled at this time. I have seen other recalls involving lead frame in other Fords that have the same transmission as mine.

14 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

I am writing to bring to your attention a critical safety issue affecting my 2021 Ford F-150, caused by a recent sync software update. On or around August 2024, Ford issued a software update that has resulted in significant malfunctions in multiple vehicle systems, including intermittent freezing and non-responsiveness shortly after vehicle startup. These issues persist for several minutes, severely impairing safety features—most notably the federally mandated backup camera that all vehicles sold after 2018 are required to have for driver and pedestrian safety. Following Ford's issuance of a recall number, I scheduled a service appointment with my local dealership and was later informed that Ford's specified service procedures would incur additional charges since my vehicle is now out of warranty. Ford has indicated that rolling back to a previous software version is not an option, as only Ford has access to the software. The company further requires an official diagnostic assessment at an estimated cost of $500 to $1,000 to even consider covering part of the repair costs. This approach is unreasonable, given that the malfunction originates from Ford’s own software update and directly impacts the safe operation of the vehicle. This is especially concerning as it compromises the backup camera and other critical driver-alert systems, which could lead to severe injury or even fatalities if the issue remains unaddressed. This issue is not isolated; a significant number of Ford F-150 owners are reporting similar problems on public forums, where Ford has acknowledged the software defect but has not offered a resolution without additional financial burden on affected customers. Given the safety risks posed by the non-functional backup camera and the importance of fully operational driver alert systems, I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter. Ford’s reluctance to address this defect without cost to owners directly undermines the federally mandated safety standards that.

15 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/03/2024

I purchased my 2023 Ford f150 lightning lariat in November 2023 and although it has been an outstanding vehicle in most regards, there is a glaring software/infotainment problem that has been extremely dangerous on multiple occasions. When putting the truck into reverse, the screen sometimes freezes on a static image, leading me to believe that there are no vehicles or pedestrians behind my truck when in fact there are vehicles and pedestrians behind my truck. Additionally, the screen frequently freezes completely or fails to initiate in the first place. This is an issue that has been repeatedly posted about both in f150 lightning forums and on the [xxx] subreddit. Many users have taken their vehicles in to address this issue, but Ford technicians seem under-trained to handle this and refer customers to a potential future update that might resolve this. We believe Ford is failing to ensure the safety and security of both lightning owners and pedestrians by not addressing this issue with their infotainment system. Specifically, this issue occurs on sync 4a on the 15. 5 inch screen. At present, I am running the most recent software available as of 4/4/24. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

16 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/29/2024

On 3/28/2024 while driving at interstate speed of 70 mph. Truck down shifted from 6th to 5th gear momentarily locking break brakes. Cross traffic light warning, blind spot warning, check engine light all illuminated at moment of downshift. The gear indicator light was no longer visible. The transmission position drive, neutral, reverse etc. Was no longer illuminated. Additionally, the climate controls loss lighting. The down shift was so violent, traffic had to swerver into the median to avoid rear end collision. After pulling to the shoulder, I turned the truck off. With the truck in the off position, I depressed the brake to efforts to restart the truck; however, the brake pedal was solid, and truck could not be restarted. You could only place truck into accessory mode. I disconnected the battery and waited 5 min and reconnected it. The truck then started and all dash alarms cleared. I cautiously drove home with no issue. On 3/29 I took the truck to Ford dealership joe cooper 600 w memorial rd, oklahoma city, ok 73114 (405) 475-9000. On the way to the Ford dealership the truck again down shifted unexpectedly. Knowing the truck would not restart I drove the truck in 5th gear at slow speed 25mph and the truck would not down shift lower that5th. The dealership was able to catch codes on a scan and told me it would be as early as 4/1 before they could investigate. The stated most of the time the reflash the system. This is unacceptable as a root cause. If the software is a fault and it can randomly become corrupt while drive at a random given date. This issue requires Ford to be held accountable. On 3/30 and I stood in shock when on cbs news a story came out that 2014 trucks are experiencing the same thing. I can prove my truck was in the shop and my story is documented from dealer prior to any news story. I hope my information drives further investigation and that it helps to save an accident or god forbid a death.

17 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/15/2023

The 360 camara does not always come on for several minutes after starting up. This prevents me from using the bachup canera and therefore I ciuld run over something or somebody when backing out of my garage or out if a parking spot. I have taken the truck in to to different dealers and all they say is they can't duplicate the problem. I even show them a viseo of it happening to me but say they have to see it to fix it. I see all of the Ford SUV's are on recall, so wht aren't the f150's? this is a very dangerous situation that needs to be corrected ASAP. I swe many owners on tge internet with the same problem. Please help!.

18 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/07/2023

Loud buzzing noise interrupts driver focus. This happens intermittently, but has occurred while braking at busy intersections, while backing into urban parking spaces, while attempting to use the camera for safe maneuvering - or just at random times while driving. Navigation has been interrupted, preventing the ability to make safe decisions to arrive at a desired location. Voice-based services have been interrupted, prompting the need for physical interaction (which entices the driver away from hands-free operation and taking their eyes off the road). Backup camera has been disabled (blank screen) while switching to reverse preventing detection of objects behind the vehicle. Infotainment/vehicle operations are disrupted while system randomly reboots (and often buzzes loudly). Additional issues render the audio system as annoying, buzzing during songs whether on carplay or via usb music. The optional (and expensive) b&o unleashed audio system has been rendered almost useless. Noise has been so disruptive as to startle me during operation of the vehicle on multiple occasions since purchasing the vehicle in July 2023. Updates have been hinted at to address this problem but have not been delivered or realized - and yes auto update is on and I'm manually checking for updates as well. October ota did not address this issue (and may have made it worse - although my high hopes for this update may have just increased my annoyance at its persistence). I have reported this to my Ford dealer. Date listed below is last occurrence.

19 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/06/2023

The rear backup camera does not work in cold weather when any kind of moisture is present. The screen doesn’t display anything useful and I am afraid it will cause me to have an accident. I have not brought it to the mechanic as I don’t currently have the money to investigate repairs.

20 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/14/2023

The sync 4 main display reboots very often. It has occurred over 30 times in 10k miles. I am considering this a safety issue as it often happens shortly after startup of the vehicle, and prevents the backup cameras from functioning. In fact, it has rebooted the screen while I was reversing probably five times. Ford has had numerous software updates and yet this problem remains endemic across multiple owners that I have spoken to.

21 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/15/2023

Tail lights with blis crack at the manufacturing seam of the light, causing critical safety features to not function. Additionally, water penetrates light and causes electrical shortage. Well known issue amongst truck enthusiasts.

22 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/30/2023

Vehicle has a catastrophic design flaw. If water enters the led bliss tail light assembly even in small amounts for anreason, including due to manufacturing defects, minor damage such as a crack, e treme wet weather, or wear and tear of seals, then numerous electrical failures occur of the entire warning system. This includes not only the tail lights, and blind spot backup and cross traffic systems, but catastrophic failure of all dashboard door and window controls. The vehicle cannot be easily unlocked including with remote, climate and accessories cannot be controlled. They vehicle can barely be operated and great expertise and expense required to return the vehicle to proper service. This has happened twice to this vehicle in 2022. Both times it was from minor damage to the taillight lens. Water entered the connectors for a network system which is critical to numerous vehicle safety and critical systems which are completely digital. The part required replacing is available only from a dealer as an oem part and cost $500 plus labor. Research shows this is a widespread confusing problem, which renders high end models nearly inoperable with uncontrollable systems other than basic engine functions and subjecting consumers to great inconvenience and expense. The manufacturer does not appear to have offered recall services and only will repair or replace if the item fails under warranty. Under any interpretation this problem is a gross failure in engineering and safety. What other vehicles with a minor taillight problem have failure of a majority of systems? so many codes are thrown that the average technician and consumer must bear great expense to repair for diagnosis, and then replacement with extremely expensive parts only available from dealer.

23 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/11/2023

Cam phasers make engine rattle at startup and idle. A recall has been put out but the dealer did not get the issue fix and sold it anyway. Also rear sensors don't work right.

24 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

Vehicle randomly shifts into 1st or 2nd gear while driving at highway speeds. The wheels lock up and skid, then enters into limp mode. After the incident, the vehicle displays a "check manual," "blind spot detection," and "cross-traffic sensor" light display. After a few minutes in limp mode, the vehicle will correct itself and begin driving normally. This happens 70% of the times I drive the vehicle. I have taken it to the Ford dealer 3 separate times. The warranty company won't fix it because when they drive it, it doesn't recreate the issue, and they tell me to keep driving it until the transmission goes out completely.

25 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/04/2023

While driving there is a hard "clunk" sound then blind spot system, cross traffic system fault and see manual alert comes on. Truck loses power and shifts out of d (acts as if in neutral). Has happened about 7 or 8 times now. Very scary situation and can be tragic if this situation happens at high speed. I have done some research and I know there have been recalls for transmission lead frames on older model F-150's. Sounds and feels to be the exact same situation for my 2015 F-150.

26 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

While the vehicle was running, it spontaneous entered "limp mode". The wrench light came on the instrument cluster and warned that the blind spot and rear collision systems were offline. The gear selector indicator also disappeared. After the vehicle was shut off, it would not restart for numerous attempts. When it did, it was being driven to the dealership when the same series of events occurred at a red light. Afterwards, the truck struggles to accelerate. The dealership has diagnosed a lead frame failure, which was a recall on the previous generation f150s. Based off discussions online, it seems that this is common.

27 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/22/2023

Powertrain malfunction / reduced power error.

28 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/18/2023

After purchasing my truck, it was discovered that the back up camera doesn't work. It will work on occasion when the truck is put in reverse. The safety for myself or others is that I cannot see behind me when backing up. I have not taken the vehicle in for an inspection since I have been told that this is an issue for other Ford f150's in the same year. When backing up my screen says camera not available.

29 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/10/2022

Forward collision warning (pre collision assist not available) message comes on while driving with no vehicles in front, driving under normal conditions. Cross traffic system rear - not detecting vehicles, intermittent. Reported to dealer, no faults or issues were found. Since being at the dealer, the 2 issues continue intermittently. We have the "Ford pass" app which records any/all alerts, I cannot download them at this time.

30 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/08/2022

The apim is completely nonfunctional. Screen is blank. Two dealers went through entire test protocol and arrived at this conclusion. Hence I have no camera or warning system, as well as no bluetooth for hands free communication. No gps. The truck only has about 1300 miles on it. I got it in March after waiting 9 months, and the system broke very soon thereafter. Ford must have known of these defective units because their failure is a common discussion topic on the internet. It took 6 weeks to get a dealer appointment to diagnose. Now I am told that replacement units are on "galactic" backorder. Ford must be penalized for delivering what they must have known to be a likely defective product. Without all the safety systems dependent on the apim, I and others are put at risk. Please do something to discourage selling vehicles that are known to carry likely safety feature failures.

31 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/31/2021

The passenger door won’t latch when I open it. Then won’t latch to close. And my rear camera traffic warning randomly goes off without nothing being in the way annoying to say the least……. Please help.

32 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/13/2021

1. The passenger and drivers side modules were replaced by the dealership but the issues still persist and are available for inspection upon request. 2. Safety could be at risk. Reverse brake assist error issue could potentially cause a small child or person to be in danger if sensors are not working or cause an accident. 3. It has been reproduced and verified by the dealer. The dealer is sill-terhar motors in broomfield, CO. 4. The passenger and drivers side rear modules were replaced by the dealership, but the issues still persist. 5. The system failure messages did appear at the time of failure. They started appearing approximately a week after we purchased the truck. First warning is logged in the Fordpass app on June 13, 2021 I get three warnings pretty consistently when the system fails. So far the Fordpass app has over100 error messages regarding my issue. The warning messages all show up at the same time. They are usually: 1. Blind spot system fault 2. Cross traffic system fault 3. Reverse brake assist not available see manual (even though it is turned on) 4. Hill start assist error occurs as well 5. Sometimes when I am in reverse and these go off and I then brake with the foot pedal, the electronic emergency brake engaged without any manual intervention. First 3 errors have happened while reversing and while driving in normal city street and highway speeds. Taking into the dealer to have it looked at again on Nov. 4, 2021. Issues started 06/13/2021 and continue to present (as of this writing 10/25/2021).

33 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/15/2021

When a trailer is connected the right side trailer brake light fails to operate; the lights on the truck work properly. When the trailer has been recently disconnected warnings on the dash appear saying "blind spot and cross traffic alert deactivated trailer attached". I also get trailer left and right turn lamps fault check lamps warnings and the turn signal indicators flash at double speed. These things always clear up after a couple of days until a trailer has been connected and disconnected again. I have two different trailers and they both do the same thing. Just for the record, the right turn signal and hazard flashers on the trailer work correctly. My dealer has observed everything that I stated above but claims he is unable to get parts to fix it. The cross traffic alert malfunction and the non operative trailer brake light would appear to be safety issues. So far, no one has been involved except my dealer's service department. If I don't hook up a trailer everything has and does work correctly. I took this truck in to the dealer a couple of years ago due to the dashboard warnings but did not take my trailer with me at that time; they were unable to fix it. I was unaware at that point that I had no right trailer brake light; this is not easy to see unless someone is following me.

34 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/26/2021

The 2017 F-150 suddenly experienced electrical problems including; tailgate unintended opening, blis (blind spot information system) failures, cross traffic alert failures and rear camera blue screen failures. These failures occur at a status of the vehicle, eg. Locking the doors, shifting into gear, use of key fob or proximity sensors to tailgate.

35 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

Several extremely dangerous situations occured within 6 months of purchasing brand new 2015, F-150, 3. 5, 4x4 ecoboost king ranch model. While driving on interstate, in rain, passing an 18 wheeler, without warning forward collision lights go off and truck begins slamming the brakes on by itself and the car behind me had to slam on his brakes to avoid a severe crash. I brought truck to dealership they checked it out and said they wasnt sure why it happened and reset the computer, and put me back on the road. It continued to happen 2 or 3 more times until I realized it was only during rain, and when on side of 53' semi truck trailers. The last time it happened was a very dangerous and unnerving experience. Truck suddenly begins slamming brakes on again going thru a major city on the freeway in heavy traffic. I brought the truck into dealer, and told them I wasnt driving it until they fixed it. The first year of ownership my truck was plauged with issues. It constantly went into limp mode while on the freeway. I was working over 3 states and the truck would go into limp mode if I accelerated to pass. I went to every Ford dealership shop along the interstate for a 300 mile stretch over the next 4 years while working away from home . Most of the problems were while under warranty. Finally they updated software and it stopped. This was a very dangerous problem and the dealerships werent really very helpful. My truck stayed in the dealership shop more than 60 days the first year I owned it. I bought it brand new.
