Steering wheel has become difficult to turn. Feels as if it is locking up and I really have to muscle it back to center after taking a sharp turn. I took it to my mechanic and he lubricated a u joint on the steering shaft which helped and told me to bring it back if/when it starts binding up again. He informed me he has replaced the lower steering shaft on other f150's due to severe rust/corrosion at the joint. I saw recently Ford issued a recall on crown victoria's with some type of steering issue so I figured I would submit this complaint since I anticipate having to replace the steering shaft in the near future.

The rear portion of the frame is rotten to the point that the let springs hangers are ready to break off the frame and the spare tire holder is also ready to fall off. I just replaced the rear spring shackles due to the were also rotten and broke. The gas tank straps were also a problem due to rust but Ford though enough of the problem there was a recall on that, Toyota had a problem with rusted frames and did a massive recall on that issue. Why hasn't Ford done the same thing? the frame should be the last thing one needs to worry about with any vehicle. The truck currently has 146000 miles and now we need to figure out what the next move will be with this vehicle. Repair it, junk it or trade it ?????.
On or around Dec 2012 I noticed a water stain in the rear drivers side of the head liner. I assumed I may have accidentally left the window partially down causing a water stain in the winter months. I recently lost my job so I'm not driving my truck very often on April 26th 2013 after many days of rain I noticed a large water stain all along the rear window of the truck, staining up the tan head liner pretty bad. My warranty just expired by 2000 miles so I had my husband take a look at the problem. As we took down the liner we noticed slightly rusted spots all along the trim and water dripping from the rear brake light that's outside the truck near the top of the cabin. My husband believes that the seal surrounding the brake light has a defect. I immediately called atchinson Ford dealer in belleville mi and spoke to service manager he new immediately what I was referring too seems as though they make repairs to these new and used F-150 frequently. I asked the manager if their was a recall on the brake light and he laughed and said "no,but Fords s definitely aware of this problem. I'm concerned that the brake light will become compromised with the wires as well as moldy smell this has caused. I contacted Fords and have a case number opened up concerning this matter,it appears to be a defect in this brake light and or gasket surrounding the window. It will be very costly to me . Can you please look into this matter?a $36 thousand dollar truck should not be having faulty gaskets/seals. I know longer under manufacturer warranty but I feel as though this is a manufacturer problem. Fords would not help in any way so I'm addressing my concern in hopes you can assist me. My Ford f 150 frame and spring holders are rusting bad, I'm afraid the springs may fall off or the frame may break while I'm driving. It's just a matter of time before this happens. The body of the truck has no rust, I'm the original owner and only have 62,000 miles on it. Just wondering it other people are having the same problem im having with my frame and what my opptions are.

I brought in my 1999 Ford f150 to get an inspection and get a recall performed on the straps that hold the gas tank on. The garage had the vehicle for 6 days before they informed me that they in fact could not perform the safety upgrade because the frame of the truck has too much rust. I believe that Ford motor company is responsable for not providing adequette protection fro the elements on the frames of this make/model of vehicle. I called the Ford motor company and was told that they were only responsable for the gas tank straps and not the frame so they were not requiring their dealership to do the upgrades. When my best friends 1999 Toyota tacoma had the same eact problem on his truck the Toyota company paid to put a new frame on his truck due to a recall of the frame. The rest of my Ford truck is in great condition and has around 120,000 miles on it. I have had no other issues with the truck except for the frame. Because of this issue the only real choice I have at this point is to scrap the truck and buy another vehicle.
I strongly feel that the frame and cross members rust and rot issues of the 2001 Ford f150's needs to be addressed. This is a major safety issue. I am really upset and with my 2001 f150 frame and other underbody parts. A frame that is 11 years old should not be so rusted out. I have done some research on the internet and have seen alot of issues of other owners with this complaint. I have had older trucks and cars and have never seen a frame in this kind of rust and rot condition at all. I would like to know what can be done with this issue before someone's 2001 Ford f150 literally breaks in half while driving down the interstate/highway or even in a school zone. I strongly feel that the last component to fall apart on any vehicle or to be a safety issue is the frame. Trucks are meant to pull campers and trailers which are heavy loads and the last thing you want to have happen is the frame on that vehicle to break away and kill the driver or other drivers on the road. I feel that it take someone to die before any action is taken on vehicle safety issues, thus im trying to prevent. I am willing to take my 2001 f150 to be inspected on this issue to a NHTSA site or a member can come to me. Please help with this Ford f150 issue and create a recall before its to late and someone is seriously injured or killed. Please respond back to me as soon as possible. Thanks.
While changing the shocks on the vehicle consumer noticed the rear frame broke. No explanation as to how or why.
