I have 2 major issues: 1. My tailgate keeps opening on its own. It has happened while I was driving as well as when it is parked. Damage happened to the tailgate when it opened on its own in the garage and was leaning against the garage door when my wife opened the garage door to leave in her vehicle. It also happened while driving on the highway. This issue has happened multiple times but garage issue happened this morning and will put that as the date it happened below. 2. Also the lane minding system keeps alarming telling me to put my hands on the wheel when I have never let go of the wheel in the first place - the service department told me it was because I was driving too straight, that the system wants to detect movement in the steering wheel (am I supposed to drive serpentine down the road to keep my vehicle?s alarm from going off and distracting me?). The alarm happens when I am driving on straight areas of the road. This is an ongoing issue, pretty much on a daily basis since I bought the truck.

Tailgate opens while driving at both city street speeds and highway speeds. Allowing items in bed to fall out on road creating road hazard. This is more than an inconvenience it is dangerous and someone is going to killed. Do something about this. Please. Canada has already done the right thing and ordered the recall. If NHTSA responds to this problem too late or not at all NHTSA will have blood on their hands because it is not a matter of if serious injury and/or death occurs it is a matter of when.
I have a 2019 F-150 that has what they call rail dust or brake dust (rust flakes) showing through on my ingot silver paint. My tailgate is the worst. I have rust flakes appearing in various places throughout my truck body panels. Even the rear bed inner body panels are showing the rust flake spots. Aluminum body panels should not show rust material. This rail dust or brake dust should not be adhering to the clearcoat paint on my truck. I have done some research and Ford has had problems with this all the way back to 2004. Ford has put out some TSB's about the problem but will not admit to their problem with rust flakes appearing in their paint. This rust flakes needs recalled immediately that is appearing in the paint jobs. Numerous people are complaining through various search forums I have seen. I am not accepting this rail dust because when you pay upwards of $35,000. 00 for a truck and can't get 2 years out of a flawed paint job Ford won't recall someone needs to force Ford into action. I have contacted my dealer about this but will probably be told nothing can be done. They already told me after my 3 year/3600 miles nothing can be done, this is unfair. Make Ford fix this damn problem with the rust flakes in their paint jobs. No other manufacturer has this problem. Last time I buy a Ford. Ford should be held liable for their metal particles that appeared on the aluminum body panels before they were painted. We the consumer should not be the one paying the price for their mistakes. This so called rail dust that is appearing on the f -150's paint is not fake. Look at my photos. Have some one come take pictures of my truck for proof. What will the truck look like in 2 more years a rust bucket. I am not paying to have this fixed. Ford has a problem and needs to recall the bad paint jobs or buy back my truck. Please help me with this problem. Make Ford recall this.

Door latches freezing and doors will not remained closed posing a safety risk. Tailgate also opens on it's own.

When driving the tailgate will unexpectedly lower, this has happened multiple times with and without loads in the bed of the truck. The tailgate lowering has happened on the highways, city streets, turning and while parked.
Drove from new jersey to brooklyn, over the verrazzano parked and guess what. . . Tailgate was open with my tools exposed? heading home nice driver in tunnel made me aware the tailgate was open. Finished driving through tunnel, pulled over to close tailgate for the third time on one day.
Tailgate opens on own even while driving. No warning that it has or is open. At highway speed the tailgate has opened allowing bed contents to spill out!.
Tailgate opens spontaneously while driving and while parked. The tailgate has an electronic release mechanism. After checking to ensure the tailgate was secure it has released five separate times. Once in the garage, causing damage to the paint on the tailgate after opening the garage door and once on the front of a car parked behind the truck. Fortunately I didn't have cargo in the back.

My electric tailgate is coming down without me opening it. I was hooking up my snowmobile trailer and it came down on my head. We have had it open going down the road and with a tonneau cover you don't know it has fallen. Thankfully the boys had down hill skis in back that didn't fly out and kill someone. I have now pulled the fuse but that interferes with opening the doors. And makes my rear box useless with the tonneau cover. I have to put the fuse back in in order to open the tailgate. Detroit -- Ford is recalling its popular F-150 pickup truck in canada to fix a problem with electric tailgate latches, but identical trucks aren't being recalled in the u. S.
Tailgate opens going down the road, tailgate opens anytime I unlock the doors, and tailgate opens when remote is near tailgate with no buttons pushed.
F150 with electronic tailgate release will randomly unlock and drop open. This is happening at least 50% of the times I use my truck. I've heard the tailgate release be activated with my fob key setting on the dash board, no one touching it. I took it to the dealer today, 1/10/2020, and the service rep heard it unlock the tailgate while he was holding the key fob. He indicated there is a recall; however, it is not for f150's. . Only f250-450's. What really scares me there is no warning or notifications the tailgate has dropped down and is now open. I only know when I stop and see it down or the loud steady warning when I put the truck in reverse. So far nothing has fallen out but this is clearly unsafe and should be recalled/repaired ASAP by Ford. This has occurred when operating on both city roads and highways, although, I'm not sure exactly when it is unlocked or drops open. This problem first occurred in early December; however, it was not nearly as frequent; now it is almost every time I use my truck.
Rear tailgate will come open by its self while driving.
The tailgate came open on its own. When it did that it fell onto the trailer tonque jack of the trailer I was pulling and caused $1372. 08 worth of damage. The pickup was moving when the tailgate opened as I was in a large parking lot of a cafe and was preparing to park for lunch.
Electric rear tailgate falls down randomly while driving at speed or even while parked. Tailgate has fallen 5-6 times while truck is parked in last few months and also 5+ times while car is driving. It has fallen while truck was in reverse, and while truck was traveling on country roads at speeds of ~40mph. Please note - this issue seems identical to the one Ford just announced a recall for on the 2017-2019 f-250 superduty trucks. It must be related. Our truck was in the shop just last week before this recall was announced. This truck should be included in the recall the tailgate most recently fell 11/28/19.
While driving our 2015 Ford F-150 lariat supercrew on a trip from ohio to florida on interstate I-77 we were towing a 14 foot enclosed trailer. My wife and I stopped for the night after approximately 550 miles and I made sure the truck was secure. In the morning I walked around the trailer and the truck to be sure everything was okay and it was before continuing our drive. We were just north of charlotte, nc and there has been a lot of new road construction as we continued south with rough bumpy areas, changing road lanes and just a lot of twisting sections. After 2 hours and south of charlotte we stopped for fuel. I then saw that the tailgate was down. I was shocked as I looked and was glad we had not lost any items on the road, we could have killed someone. The tailgate received damage because as the twisting and required lane changes happened the trailers front tongue wheel support post was jamming against the dropped tailgate. We feel so fortunate to have not lost the heavy items in the truck that could have made us responsible for a sever accident. I took the truck to the Ford dealer in mount dora, FL and was told the recall currently is for just the f-250 & f-350 models with the power tailgate. They "ran" my VIN number and told me this truck is not in the same recall. Even though the F-150 "lariat" upgrade model has the same power tailgate as the two in the recall. Please help and require the justified recall to be specific to not just the vehicle VIN or model numbers but to all those with this type of functioning power tailgate. I have called Fords's consumer (866) help center and they are not admitting replacement for my damaged tailgate even though the dealer body shop manager had me present to see as they took the tailgate apart. We found inside one broken part for the mechanical latch controller that secures the locking of the tailgate.
Rear tailgate randomly opens and will not close at times.
I'm finding that in very cold weather, the doors and sometimes the tailgate will freeze shut. In this case, both times the truck was sitting outside and the temperature over night was in the low teens.
Tailgate disconnected from hinges on our 2016 f150. Traveltravelling in a 30mph zone with tailgate open lying down to transport a door. Truck passing over a shallow break in pavement at which time we heard a loud thump. Immediate inspection discovered tailgate disengaged from hinges landing on one hinge and bumper. Safety cables held bumper from falling off completely. Reviewed with service at Ford dealership where purchased. Prior to revealing what happened the agent acknowledged he has heard of this issue on another Ford truck locally. In that incident the gate was destroyed from landing in road. Once I revealed our incident he indicated that it is not a warranty matter even though our vehicle is less than 3 years old at just 12,000 miles. His assistant indicated there is a part available to prevent the gate from bouncing and sliding out. Suggested that having a part available to prevent what just happened to our truck is an admission of a faulty design. The agent insisted the hinge assembly is not a faulty design as the gates are not suppose to be lying down when travelling. At that point I chuckled and left. Of course telling him I would not be back for a 3rd new truck. This issue has the potential if it hasn't already happened to cause serious injury or death to passengers in vehicles travelling behind a Ford truck that experiences a tailgate hinge malfunction.
The tailgate on my 2018 Ford f150 sporadically opens on its own while the vehicle is in motion. It has happened at least three seperate times while pulling a trailer causing damage to the tailgate. I have reported it to my Ford dealer but have been unable to duplicate the problem at time of complaint.
I bought this truck in February of 2019. Since then the tailgate has opened on its own while I was driving 5 times. This last time was on July 2nd, 2019.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 15 mph, the tailgate detached from the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 9,500.
Tailgate opened while driving on city street, notwithstanding that the gate was securely closed; had not been opened in weeks; and neither the tailgate release on key fob, nor the release button on the gate had been activated.
The tailgate on my 2018 Ford F-150 has the automatic open option from the key fob. I first experienced the tailgate had opened on its own when I went outside to go to work and found tailgate was open. I didn't think to much about it at the time. Then while I was pulling a trailer I went over a speed bump and heard a what sounded like something had fallen over inside trailer. Stopped to investigate and found tailgate had opened and fell on the trailer jack handle on the hitch. This broke the tailgate handle housing the button for opening tailgate, the light and backup camera. I had no idea how this could've happen. No way could the key fob could have activated the auto release as it was on the consul when this happened. I looked on the internet for any possible causes and found many others have had the same problem.
Electric tailgate seems to randomly open on it's own. It does it when truck is running, or turned on, parked or even driving. Very annoying and worried it will cause the tailgate to break or lose things in the bed. It does this several times a day. Most recent was 12 in 1 day.
Tailgate opens by itself. Has happened while driving at least once (that I know of because I have a bed cap on that has held it in place). The one time I noticed it I was towing a trailer and was fortunate that the tailgate did not get wedged between the trailer jack on a turn. I have now noticed that the tailgate will open and the latch mechanism will continue to fire even after the tailgate is down,.
Tl the contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2018 Ford F-150. The consumer stated that the tailgate opened twice while the vehicle was in motion. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the consumer to NHTSA. The contact worked for autonation Ford katy (20777 katy fwy, katy, TX 77450, (281) 305-8949) and stated that the tailgate could be opened while the vehicle was in motion, especially with the key fobs. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The power tailgate opens on its own when the vehicle is in motion. The power tailgate opens when the driver door is closed, or the doors are locked with key fob. The power tailgate dose not open with the tailgate handle switch.
Electric tailgate drops open without being triggered and will not close and stay closed after repeated attempts. Finally will remain closed but may repeat process. Started in Dec 2017 and has continued until the present day. Returned it to a Ford dealer and they found nothing. Now tailgate will not open when the button on the tailgate is pushed. You can open tailgate with remote fob only. Tailgate opening usually happens when parked and stationary but has happened once when I was transporting my travel trailer on the highway. Last happened in February 2019.
Rear electronic tailgate opens on its own while driving. This has happened more than 15 times in four months. Frequency increasing. Danger to others. A known issue on f250 and 350 models, now on f150 too.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 20 mph in the rain, the tailgate fell down. The vehicle was taken to sheehy Ford of marlow heights (301-298-0793, located at 5000 auth rd, marlow heights, MD 20746), but the failure could not be diagnosed. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and referred the contact to NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,500.
