Wheel Rim Problems of Ford F-150

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the rear oem passenger’s side rim inadvertently fractured in half. There was no warning prior to the failure. The contact stated that she was able to place the spare on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

The contact owns a 2008 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the driver side rim fractured. The contact lost control of the vehicle while driving 70 mph. The contact was able to regain control of the vehicle. In addition, the rear driver and passenger side rims fractured. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rims fractured and caused the brakes to malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

2000 Ford F-150. Consumer states wheel rims started to rust out in one year the consumer also stated the bumper rusted out in one year, and the abs light illuminated. The brakes were inspected several times, but no problem was found. The high beams would not come on, the plastic on the outside rearview mirror fell off, the dome light in the cab wouldn't come on, and the tailgate wouldn't close, the windshield wiper washer, wipers and heating system did not work. The power steering pump leaked all the time, the gear shifter wouldn't go into park. The fuel strap failed three years ago and caused the fuel tank to fall to the ground.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford f150. The contact stated that the tires would consistently lose air. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the independent mechanic found a crack in the rear aluminum wheel rims. The manufacture was contacted and advised taking the vehicle to an authorized dealer for further inspection. The dealer advised the owner would be liable for the repair costs. The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. While driving 70 mph, the front passenger side tire blew out. The contact is concerned that the corrosion on the rims caused the blow out and could potentially cause a crash. The dealer confirmed that there was corrosion around the rims and informed the contact that the tires needed to be replaced and that the tire was low. The contact replaced the tires frequently due to the low tire pressure. The dealer also stated that the valve stem where the air was applied and the rim were leaking air as well. The dealer stated that replacing the tires should remedy the failure; however, the tires continued to lose air pressure. The failure mileage was 30,000.

No injuries involved. While traveling along a local highway at approx. 45 to 50 mph, I experienced a blow out of the left rear tire on a 2005 Ford f150 XLT extended cab-shortbed pickup. Upon inspection of the tire/rim by the aaa technician, it was determined that the oem steel rim had split open thus causing the "blowout" . It was further determined that the rim had split nearly 2/3 of the way around the rim. This is a stock oem steel rim with a chrome outer "clad" surface. As the truck is of high mileage ( I drive nearly 4200 mi. Month), the local Ford dealership was reluctant to replace it. I requested that the rim be inspected by the regional Ford rep. That handles warranty claims. The rim is scheduled to be inspected on June 8, 2007 at which point a decision shall be rendered. No accident was involved, however if the wheel had been on the front of the vehicle, and I had been traveling at freeway speeds of 65 plus miles per hour, the potential would have existed for a serious accident as the result of sudden loss of vehicle control.

Rims on the vehicle are splitting apart at the welds on the bead of the rim where the tire bead seats causing the rim to warp while driving. There has been three of these on this same vehicle that has split apart in the last couple of months.

The contact owns a 1998 Ford f150 ld. While driving 55 mph, the rear passenger side aluminum rim began to separate. The wheel lip rim detached and caused a blow out. The contact stated that there were two more rims that were experiencing the same failure. The dealer has been notified and stated that the cause of failure was due to corrosion. The current mileage was 150,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.

Driving down hwy 35w south bound by lakeville, minnesota. I heard slight grinding noise from front end. I braked and slowed down and took immediate exit from free way on exit ramp. While I entered exit ramp then front end of my 2002 Ford f150 fx4 dropped to the pavement and tire blew. Upon inspection the factory aluminum rim had split in two causing the tire to blow.

The rims leaked air. Consumer placed the wheels in a container of water, and watched as bubbles seeped from the weld spots. Dealer and the manufacturer have been informed.

Wheels: rim is cracking straight into the bead. Dealer notified.

Passenger's side rear rim cracked at weld while consumer was driving. Consumer noticed the tire went flat, when pulling the vehicle over. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything. Jlg.

Insides of the rims are peeling, also sign of cracking are appearing around base of rims. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Left front rim is showing signs of stress cracks on the inside. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified. Consumer stated the dealer looked at the rim and stated there were no signs of pothole or curb damage, however the manufacturer stated there must have been some type of damage without even seeing the rim.

Wheel rim broke while driving 50mph. There was no prior warning of a problem. Had maintained control of vehicle, and pulled to side of road.

Vehicle's metal wheel rims hold water after it rains. The rims were designed in a way that allowed them to retain water after it rained or came in contact with standing water. This problem caused the rims to corrode and resulted in separation of the rim. The manufacturer was contacted but told the consumer that they were not responsible for the problem.
