Three problems related to engine cooling system have been reported for the 2004 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
At onset of cold weather,(below 40f), loud tapping from engine at idle and again at 200 rpms. This lasts until engine is warmed up completely. Ford says piston slap and it is normal. Truck has 20k miles. Unless standard engineering practice has been repealed, piston slap is not normal under any circumstance.
Engine idle is defective and the vehicle stalls intermittently. Dealer serviced the vehicle, but problem recurred.
Oil was leaking from the engine. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the mechanic replaced the rear main seal, but oil continued to leak.
