1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2024

While driving at 65 mph, towing a fifth wheel camper, encountered a mildly rough section of highway when entire front end began to wobble and shake violently. Slowed the vehicle, maintaining control. When going back up to speed, the same shaking occured again. Also noted a less violent shaking at 45 mph. Took vehicle to have new tires rebalanced but did not change condition much. Inspected front end components. Currently replacing steering damper and shocks in hopes of correcting issue. All other components new or nearly new (3 years) with no issues. Vehicle and components can be inspected, and all replaced parts will be kept for inspection if required. Safety of my vehicle and others on busy highway could have been compromised had I not slowed and maintained control. The problem is being dealt with by me, as I do most maintenance on vehicle. The vehicle has not been seen or inspected by others except by tire mechanic who noted no obvious issues but did re-balance all tires. There was no advance warning of a failure or compromise.

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2022

Towing a trailer, traveling at 70 mph, I hit a pothole and vehicle violently shook. The episode lasted for approx 30 seconds. It was very difficult to maintain control and I almost ran off the road. It happened several times before I took it for repairs. The stabilizer bar was replaced, however the violent shaking has still continued.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2022

In 2014, I got the “Ford death wobble” in the right front. Very scary and dangerous. Trying to quickly slow down to stop it in traffic is almost as dangerous as the wobble itself. You have very little to no control with the steering when it happens. I had to repair the problem out of pocket because Ford won’t do anything about it. Now, two weeks ago, I had the same death wobble happen at 70 mph on the left front. So frightening. My passengers thought we had a blowout and we’re about to crash. I successfully slowed it down but this problem is a road hazard to me and everyone else on the road. So now, once again, it’s on me to shell out to fix a problem that should have been a recall a long time ago but Ford won’t step up and do the right thing. Please give us some relief here.

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2022

Front end suspension shimmy> my granddaughter and I were driving at 60mpa and hit a bump and could not control shaking of truck until pulling over to stop. This happened without warning. Had to drive back roads to get home.

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2021

Driving on the freeway at apps 65 miles per hour, the truck hit a numb in the road and started to shaking causing the truck to shake violently. I was able to get to the side of the road and slow down which eased the shaking. I started driving again and after reaching speeds this happened two more times, then I got off the freeway and drove backroads home under 40 miles per hour.

Failure Date: 04/05/2021

A scary and serious wobble at 35 mph. Had to creep home. Almost lost control.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

2005 Ford f250 with approximately 19,100 miles. Original factory tires, suspension- no modifications. Tire pressure set to factory door label specs. On Monday, 8-19-2019 while on I-95, travel speed at about 60 m. P. H. , I drove over a bridge expansion joint & the entire truck started shaking violently. Steering wheel was vibrating/shaking making it difficult for me to maintain control of the truck in my established lane and nearly took out several cars in the adjacent lanes nearly causing multi-vehicle collision. Went on the internet & found thousands of similar complaints regarding this same issue I just experienced. Later found out it is called harmonic resonance a. K. A. The death wobble. This dangerous situation affects not only the driver and the passengers in the defective vehicle, but to other unsuspecting motorist's and their passengers whom share the same roadways.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

My 2005 Ford f250 super duty truck exhibits a condition referred to in forums as 'death wobble', in which the truck's front suspension shakes violently at highway speeds above 50 mph. This condition is generally brought on by either of the front wheels hitting any deviation in the road surface such as bridge expansion joints, potholes, etc. The condition is so bad that immediate loss of control can only be controlled by jerking of the steering wheel or an immediate reduction in speed, generally to 25 mph. I have experienced this condition several times over the past 9 years since purchasing this vehicle, most recently on July 12th while traveling on the 57 freeway in southern California at 65 mph. I was travelling in the left hand lane next to the carpool lane (in moderate traffic) when I rolled over a bridge expansion and the left front wheel started shaking violently and causing me to immediately apply my brakes to regain control. The severity seems to be greatly reduced when hauling a substantial load in the truck bed, but I did experience this twice while hauling a 20' cargo trailer across the country. I understand that a class action suit was filed against Ford in June/2019 and that Ford has been aware of this issue with other truck owners filing complaints regarding this condition. I personally have not gone to Ford regarding this as it is a waste of my time. The components they replace do not cure the problem, as many truck owners will attest. In my research, I found a company in utah that provides an aftermarket kit that appears to fix the issue. As I am about to embark on another 6000 mile journey with my wife and family, I intend to purchase and install this kit on my vehicle. If I find upon returning that this kit has alleviated my truck's issue, I will re-contact NHTSA with my results.

11 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

My truck violently shake at any time between 30 an 70 mph I have to slow down to make it stop which could cause a accident it happens in the city an highway.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2017

At anywhere between 45mph, and 70 the truck will wobble and shake out of control to the point where you can almost loose control. Truck can barely be driven and is very unsafe.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2015

While driving home from work, just leaving town I hit 50 mph and the truck starts to wobble from side to side and vibrate till I slow down to under 40 mph. I got the notice from Ford telling me it all had to do with tire pressure. I inflated the tires to the required pressure and it only made things worse. I have contacted them the first time this happened only for them to tell me there is nothing wrong. Clearly there is a problem. I have spent so much money replacing parts in the front end of this truck. Tires are now junk on the front end. The only thing I could do is under inflate the front tires to gain better control and drive slower. Still wobbles just not as bad. This is an on going problem I have everyday.

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle suddenly began to vibrate and pull to the left. While inspecting the vehicle it was discovered the brake caliper had become hot to the touch. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. 15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2014

I was heading down my street in my neighborhood and just before the street bends to the left my truck stalled and I lost my power brakes and power steering. Doing the best I could I turned the wheel just enough to avoid the car parked on the side of the street then I proceeded to run through my neighbor's wrought iron gate and pilaster coming to rest on the hill in his front yard. After assessing the damage, I tried to start my truck to see if I could move it. It started and I moved it to my driveway. After the the repairs were done at the body shop I then took it to my mechanic where he discovered a faulty wire in the wire harness causing the engine to stall without any notice or signs of trouble. Later I learned from my insurance company that there was a recall for the 2004-2005 models for the wire harness specifically, that I never received any information on.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Severe steering shake and front shimmy after going over roughness in road. Vehicle had to be slowed to almost rest to stop shimmy. Has happened multiple times.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

I noticed that when I hit a bump the bed of my truck bounces about two inches, when I looked under the truck I noticed all the supports under the bed were completely rotted. I have also had problems with my brakes. In less than 90,000 miles I've replaced three brake calipers, two rotors, two sets of brakes, and the last time I had it serviced the backing plates were so rotted that the emergency brake wouldn't work and couldn't be replaced without also replacing the backing plates. I have been driving for 50 years and have never experienced this much rot. I feel that the structural damage shouldn't happen this soon, and feel that I shouldn't be responsible for the cost to repair it.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

Driving on interstate and ran off onto rumble strips on side of road and wheel shake became extremely violent. Had to bring vehicle down to 30 mph from 75 very quickly and almost was hit from behind doing so. Have seen this and had it happen on older trucks that had excessive were in tie rods and worn front end parts but this truck is tight so I thought. First time for this and it was very frieghten couldn't beleive how violent shake was. Ford does need to address this or offer a fix before someone does get hurt. Wonder how many are out there that people have gotten rid of or never complained about it.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2011

I was traveling 70 mph on a 3 lane interstate, in the left lane. I went over a bridge expansion joint and the truck started shaking violently and would not stop until I pulled over to the shoulder. I checked to see what may have caused the shaking and found no visible damage, and so proceeded without any further issues. The vehicle is stock with proper tires, sufficient tread, and were inflated to within 2 to 3 pounds of Fords recommended tire inflation (I checked the next day).

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

When I hit a pot hole doing 50mph the front driver side starts to shack on uncontrollably. Tire pressure is ok. Brakes are new, what should I do to repair this ?.

22 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2011

While driving on PA interstate 81, my 2005 f250 experienced severe driving loss of control when the front suspension travelled over an area of the road that was uneven. This caused the trucks interior and exterior to shake uncontrollably for a long period of time to the extent that the vehicle was shifting into the other lane of traffic. Deaccelerating by releasing the gas peddle did not immediately stop the severe vibrations and applying the brakes seemed to increase the problem. My entire family and a non-family member was in the vehicle at the time and we all feared for our lives. After researching the internet, there is a video posted by another Ford owner and is exactly what we had experienced too. . Read more...

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2011

My Ford f250 has a very dangerous wobble when I hit a bump on the highway. I have checked the tire presure and all four tires are fine. After doing some research I had found that this is a on going problem with the Ford sd trucks. Something has to be done or someone is going to get killed due to a bad accident. Every dealer that I talk to has never heard of this problem but yet I see it postedall over the internet. I am very upset and I am going to take legal action.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2011

Cruising along the highway, if I hit a bump in the road doing any speed over 55 mph the truck begins to shake very badly!! so bad that I can hardly control the truck. Only way to make it stop is to slow to 40 mph. Very unsafe to drive on any highway!! there is no bad parts on this truck. . .

25 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-250 superduty. While driving approximately 75 mph over a slight bump, the vehicle began to violently shake. The contact applied heavy pressure to the brake pedal to stop the shaking. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired; the dealer stated that the contact should check the tire pressure. The current and failure mileages were approximately 39,600.

26 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2010

On my 2005 Ford f250 superduty truck with only 31000 miles, the four cab energy suspension mounts are deteriorating. One lower part of the rear driver side mount is gone causing the cab to bounce.

27 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2010

Upon hitting a bump at 30 to 40 mph , steering veers from side to side, also known as the "death wobble"very unsettling to say the least, after some research online I was shocked to see that other Ford 4x4 owners have the same thing. I found a company that says the steering geometry is wrong and have a fix, wc motorsports (508-203-9450)this should not be happening , my truck has under 40,000 miles and I am afraid to drive it. It is obvious that something is wrong and Ford has been ignoring for years. What do I do ?do you want to buy it? neal and patti hogquist.

28 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2010

I was on the interstate driving 70 mph when I hit a small bump in the road which caused my truck to shake violently and lose control of steering which took me off the road into the center median. This could have easily been a head on collision in different circumstances.

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2010

Betweens speeds of 40-65mph truck will go into "death wobble" after hitting a pothole, rough spot in road, or dips ( ex. Over passes, bridges). Truck will shake violently to the left and right almost causing a wreck. Once this happens I have to let off gas apply brake slowly till truck stops the shaking. Traffic behind me has to brake, almost causing accidents, not to mention how hard it is to control the truck when this happens. I have almost had a wreck every time this had occurred. First started when I bought the truck in Feb. 2010 with 52,500 miles. Still happens to this day after replacing front end parts, truck now has 68k miles. I've researched online and this seems to be an issue lots of people are having, not to mention it is ongoing.

30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2009

Ford F-250 superduty- while driving at 55mph or higher, and you hit a small pothole or dip in the road, this vehicle goes into a violent shimmy. The vehicle is uncontrollable and extremely dangerous. I won't let any of my family members ride in the truck with me and cringe at the thoughts of having to drive it on the interstate! it has shaken me off the road and into the ditch or median several times.

31 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2009

I bought a 2005 f250 crew cab and since about 25k miles my truck will wobble when I hit a bump at 45-60 miles per hour. The shack/wobble is so intense that you feel the front of the truck is going to loose the tires. This has happened about 6 times now and I know something is very wrong but Ford will not do anything except tell me to check my tire pressure. Tire pressure is checked almost monthly on my truck and I know that is not the issue. It is hard to have re-create the issue with a tech, since it does not happen all the time. I am getting the run around with Ford and have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix the problem myself. I know of other Ford owners that have the same problem and Ford refuses to do anything.

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Ford f250. While driving the vehicle began to shake violently. He also began to experience a violent front end shaking at highway speeds of over 10 mph when driving over minimal bumps in the road and uneven surfaces. The Ford dealer was contacted and they advised the contact to have an alignment performed and to rotate his tires which did not correct the failure. He also had shocks installed in an attempt to correct the failure; however, the failure persisted. There were no additional repairs made to the vehicle in an attempt to correct the failure. The failure and current mileages were under 85,000. Updated 3/10/10 updated 06/04/jb.

33 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2009

I own a Ford 2005 f250 super duty fx4 pick up. When the truck goes over a bump or uneven road surface the front end becomes shaky and the vehicle has a sideways movement , this is more evident if it occurs while rounding a curve in the road. This vehicle was purchased new and the problem has been on going. On 07/07/09 I almost veered into a bus .

34 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2009

Ford 2005 f250 4x4 super duty ,violent shaking. On sat may 30th at approx 11:00 am pacific standard time, I was traveling on the I 280 south freeway with my daughter to a soccer tournament in my 2005 f250 4x4 super duty truck. We were in cruise control going approx 55 mph. We drove over what I believe was a large expansion joint on the freeway. Immediately after we traveled over joint, the vehicle start to violently shake and vibrate. After a tense moment of complete terror as the vehicle became extremely difficult to control and continued to shake violently we came to a unsafe stop on the freeway. After the complete stop, I immediately had to speed up again to prevent being rear ended in the middle of the freeway. The rest of the trip was spent white knuckled traveling well below freeway speeds for fear of another episode of shaking . Every bump in the road was a scary reminder of what might happen again. My daughter is scared to travel in the truck and my wife has demanded that the problem be addressed immediately,or "sell the !@#$% truck" . This is not an isolated incident. Ford motor company sent a notice informing me of the problem. They indicated it could be prevented with proper tire pressure. My tires were well within the range of pressure suggested. I know this because I checked them immediately when I arrived home. This is completely unacceptable and presents a major risk to the driver of these vehicles as well as the surrounding drivers. I almost lost control of my truck and had flashes of my daughter and I never making it home. There was a parent traveling behind us in a truck. They witnessed the violent shaking and said "I thought your axle was going to come undone and you were going to crash" . This is completely unacceptable and I will be taking my daughters and my experience to as many forums as possible until there is a full recall on these trucks. Ford is completely aware of the situation, don't let them get away this.

35 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

While traveling at about 60 mph I lost control of my truck due to violent shaking of the front end. I had to pull over and let speed decrease to 20 mph to regain control. This happened twice in a 2 mile period. I then drove on shoulder of the road at 20 mph to get home. This has been a consistent problem since I bought the truck new in 2005 but it has never been this bad. I originally thought it was because it was a 4 wheel drive. I am now not willing to dive at high speeds. This is a super dangerous problem!!!.
