I am having severe vibration and steering issues the this model. I can not drive it without hurting my back. The truck needs a complete suspension overhaul. Should be taking off the road. Very dangerous!.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-250 sd. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph over small road bumps, he lost control of the steering. The vehicle began to violently shake until the contact stopped the vehicle. The failure recurred whenever the contact drove over road bumps at highway speeds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the failure was a common occurrence. The steering linkages and components were repaired. The failure recurred once following repairs. The failure mileage was 43,200. Updated10/13/11.
Uncontrollable wheel shimmy at speeds from 35 - 65 mph. The failure can be replicated at will. Previous investigation for this problem stopped at a tire pressure problem but this is not the case. New tires, proper pressure, balanced, rotated does not change the condition. Poor air pressure maintenance by vehicle owners was not the correct diagnosis of this problem. The wheel shimmy is a common problem with these trucks and needs to be investigated further. It is very dangerous and unpredictable. The wheel shimmy will not stop until the vehicle has almost come to a complete stop. Loss of control and becoming a traffic hazard is a potential life threatening event for the driver, passengers and surrounding vehicles. There is an apparent fix for this problem by an after market company but the expense of about $1000 for the oem repair is not acceptable for what appears to be a manufacturer design problem.
While traveling thru atlanta traffic the f 250 had a violent shaking of the front tires. It required braking out of traffic to control the steering. Two prior incidents had occurred but with less intensity in the prior months.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-250 super duty. The contact stated the vehicle pulled to the right and then to the left whenever the vehicle was cold. When the failure occurred it was very difficult to maneuver the steering wheel and control the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected, but the contact was a mechanic and stated that the failure could caused by a stuck valve. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 49,000.
I own a 2006 Ford F-250 lariat crew cab four wheel drive truck. I am the original owner. Three weeks ago the truck started experiencing violent front-end shaking. During an episode of left-to-right shaking, the truck is very difficult to control. With my hand placed on the 12:00 position on the steering wheel, the shaking violently turns the steering wheel to where my hand is going back and forth between 10:00 and 2:00. Slowing down to 30mph has stopped each of the three episodes. This truck has the factory installed wrangler ats tires and does not have a lift kit on it. Air pressure in the tires equal manufacturers recommendation. I am taking the truck to my local Ford dealership in two days for diagnostics. They act as if this is an uncommon problem, but following an internet search, it appears to be very common. It appears that Ford motor company has blamed tire pressure, giant aftermarket tires, and lift kits for this problem. My truck has none of these possible causes.
I was driving on a city street and made a left turn. Half way through the turn the truck started shaking(shimming) to the point where it was basically not drive able. Fortunately I was not going fast at the time so I could slow down quickly and pull off to the side of the road. When the event happened it was quick, from nothing to the truck shaking violent. I ended up having the steering gear and u joints replaced.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-250 sd. The contact stated that the vehicle would violently wobble while driving at highways speeds. The dealer attempted to repair the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified, but denied any assistance with repairs. The failure mileage was 37,000 and the current mileage was 47,600.
The vehicle is a 2006 Ford superduty 4x4. Has had no modifications to suspension. Still factory tires and currently at 31,000 miles. I can no longer drive the truck on the interstate. Hitting even a small bump at 65mph causes the front end to shake so badly that controling the truck is no longer possible. Today 04/13/11 the most recent incident it happened in the afternoon rush on i95 here in richmond where I live. Sending me across the lanes and almost off the road,. I am a virginia state safety inspector. I can assure you that all ateering parts are still like new and tight. I even retorqued all bolts. I have talked to the local Ford dealer. They say theres a TSB for a new damper. This problem is far beyond a steering damper. . It has done this a total of 4 times, but im sure will do it every time you hit a bump at highway speed. Ford wont or cant fix it and I dont know what to do with a truck that I cant drive on the interstate. It would make a great test truck for the nhsta since it isnt good for much else since I have to travel the interstate on a weekly basis.
I was traveling on the freeway at 60 mph. The vehicle went into a violent shaking after going over an uneven road surface. The vehicle jumped a half lane over and I had lost control until my speed was reduced. At that time I was afraid of slamming on the brakes and losing more control or possibly flipping over. Now this violent shaking occurs every time I hit a pot hole or any uneven surface at 55 to 60 mph. I have taken my vehicle to Ford service and they can not find any problem that would cause the violent shaking. After doing some research I found a video of this on you tube as "f-250 death wobble". This video says it all and is based on a stock original equipment F-250 super duty.
At around 65 mph my 2006 Ford f250 has a very horrible shimmy in the front end. This shimmy comes when the vehicle hits a change in the pavement or anything other than a perfect smooth road. This has happened several times.
Every time I hit a pothole on the freeway my front end wobbles violently as the hole front end is about to drop out. It only stops when I slow way down.
Steering wheel freezes turning to the right. My wife was going to town and came to a right hand curve and the steering wheel would not turn then poped free. This has happened now when maneuvering to park or just driving down the road at varing speeds. It is at the Ford dealer now being repaired. I talked to the mechanic doing the repair work. He asked me what year the truck was and told him it was a 2006 F-250 4x4. He then told me that Ford changed the type of steering gear box that they use in 2005 and have had a lot of problems with the sector gear in the steering gear boxes ever since they did that change. I installed a filter on the return line. After driving it a few miles I replaced the filter and dismanteled the old filter and founf a thick layer of sludge on the magnet part of the filter. This indicated that something was wearing and contaminating the system with metal particals.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-250 sd. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact drove over an uneven road surface and the steering wheel began to shimmy, causing the vehicle to merge into another lane. The failure would recur when attempting a turn and usually when driving between 30-60 mph. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The contact referenced a concurrent investigation of the failure under NHTSA action number: ea08007 (suspension:front) that could possibly have been related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
2006 f250 sd diesel shakes extremely violently when cruising at 55mph+ and hitting a bump in the road. Truck is uncontrollable, difficult to avoid other cars. Slowing to about 35 mph will resolve the situation. This has happened 6 times in 11 months, both towing trailers, empty, etc. Tire pressure, joints, bearings, dampener, alignment etc are all fine. Research shows this to be extremely common among 2005-2006 f250 owners, no permanent solution is known by Ford.
The death wobbles or shimmy been. Going on since 2010. The whole truck would shake and shake hard. Until I slow down to 30mph. Then Ford sent me a litter (09l02) saying it's called the shimmy and its my tire pressure. I checked tire still kept happening. Yesterday 6/23/2014 my wife an two sons where on the freeway when it happen and the steering damper broke off.
My f250 p/u has a death wobble above 50 mph. That has almost made me crash on several occasions.
I have a 2006 Ford F-250 super duty truck. When I hit a rough spot in the road the front end shakes so bad you have no control of the steering. The only way to get it to stop shaking is to get on the brakes and stop. I have been back to the dealer and they tell me there is nothing wrong. Someone is going to get killed if this is not corrected.
My 2006 f250 sd front end shakes very bad over pot holes and stops when I get under 20 mph.
F250 4x4 truck experienced for the 3rd time the "death wobble" while driving down the freeway at about 65 mph. Steering was out of control and the truck bounced out of the lane nearly hitting another vehicle and causing several cars to slam on their brakes. This was after hitting a small bump in the road.
Ford 2006 f250 death wobble. I was driving my truck today and I hit a little pot hole in the road and nearly lost control of my truck. The truck was shaking so bad I thought for sure the front wheels were off and we were dead. Scariest thing ever. Ford needs to recall this issue before it kills someone if it hasn't already. This is very serious we pay good money for these vehicles and should not have to pay out of pocket for the fix. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this hope Ford dose the right thing and recalls this issue.
I have a 2006 Ford f250 pickup, 4wd, diesel. When I hit a bump on the highway it causes a front end shimmy that nearly causes me to lose control. It has 52,000 miles on it but has done this since new. It has no lift kit, no modifications. I have inquired with other late model f250 owners and they have experienced the same problem. Ford says it's due to lift kits, ours have no lift kits. This is a dangerous condition and could cause an accident.
The vehicle shimmies when I hit any size bump on the road. It is very violent and has caused me to move across lines in the road.
Violent shaking "death wobble" on a 2006 Ford F-250 super duty 4x4 pickup truck. The truck experiences a violent shaking in the front end at speeds of about 60-65 mph. This happens while accelerating or after hitting a bump in the road. It is almost impossible to control and only stops when speed is reduced. Ford motor company has sent me a letter notifying me of this problem a year ago, but offers no fix for the problem other than a warning to slow the vehicle down. Local Ford dealership denied there is a problem and will not fix it.
2006 Ford F-250 super duty gas 5. 4l v8 I was on the highway driving around 70 when I hit a pot hole the steering wheel jerked like normal but then all of a sudden the truck started to shake violently. I started to slow down as fast as possible, I thought I had a flat. I was barely able to get off the road with out causing an accident. I spent about an hour trying to figure out what happened. With no findings I started to drive home very slowly afraid to go over 50. I typed in google. Com Ford f250 shaking and was amazed that there was a major problem out there and Ford is doing nothing about it. I just called Ford motor company and was given a case number. All the dealership blame it on tire pressure. And most of them state that the pressure needs to be greater then listed on the door of the truck. I am truly amazed I was not hurt or even more amazed of the quick thinking of the drivers around me, going from 70 plus to about 30 in a few seconds. From what I am reading the have been articles in a few major magazines and tv shows regarding this issue. I am now going to increase my tire pressure and see if that cures the problem, if not I am going to be forced to buy after market parts to fix the problem, costing $ 1,000 min. I don't mind the price for the safety of my wife and passengers. But I would think that Ford motor company would stand behind there product. On this day it happened 2 times on a 100 mile trip, I am now deathly afraid to drive it on the highway, or even take a passenger with me, other then that happening at highway speeds, the vehicle handles great and no problems.
My son was driving his 2006 Ford f 250 truck when the steering linkage broke and he lost all ability to steer his truck. He crashed into a piece of equipment.
Truck has had this problem since I bought it. A shimmy and vibration whenever going over any type of imperfection on the roadway. From a constant vibration up to a severe almost uncontrollable shimmy. Truck will even hop sideways when going over a small patch job on the hwy. I have bought new tires, keep my tire pressure constant and still have the problem. Please help if a fix is known. The last set of tires were ruined due to cupping. At $1300. 00 a set, I do not want to have to replace again after only 15,000 miles, but more then that, I would hate to be the one causing an accident resulting in injury and even death. Please let me know if Ford has come up with a remedy to this problem.
Violent front end shake at almost any speed after hitting pothole or even dips in roads. Worse with speed. Occurs all the time. Dangerous above 45 mph.
I have a 2006 f250 4x4 when at 55 mph or hitting a bump the front end shakes out of control.
2006 Ford f250 hd diesel has violent shaking or death wobble after hitting some bump in the road. Took to Ford and had it checked, aligned, new tires, and steering damper, isn't any better. I'd like to know what I'm suppose to do, a friend of ours had a wreck and was killed in his truck, which was just like ours?.

2006 Ford superduty crew cab F-250 4x4 diesel this vehicle has on many occasions started wobbling so bad after hitting a bump that it is out of control and the brakes do not work. I don't know what it takes to get you to do something besides slap Ford motor on the wrist. I know you have hundreds if not thousands of complaints just like mine about this vehicle. All Ford has done is issue a vague TSB that does not even attempt to fix the problem. I demand a recall on this vehicle until they can fix this problem. I have spent thousands of my own money trying to fix my truck and I still am having this problem. I believe most of the issue is in the steering box used on this vehicle and Ford should re-design and fix this issue on their own dime. Alot of us have paid $50,000 for a vehicle that we are too scared to put our family in and drive. My wife refuses to even ride in it anymore.
I have a stock 2006 Ford F-250 with stock wheels and tires and at stock height. Since I have owned this truck from brand new around 60mph the truck shakes and wobbles violently. And will eventually cause an accident as it has with so many other owners of this model. Please look into this issue.
The Ford death wobble. My 2006 f250 becomes unable to drive after hitting a small bump in the road at speeds above 55 mph the front wheel shake so bad that you have to almost stop for it to stop shaking. And this can be a problem when you are driving on the interstate and pulling off the road is a problem. There was even a show done on the problem on truck-u where they had to replace the track bar on the truck to repair the Ford death wobble. I have talk to Ford and the has said that the problem is cause be the tire not at the right pressure we is bull if that was the problem they would not have done a show about it you would think that Ford would have watched the show and then they would know how to fix the problem, but I guess someone will have get hurt before they will do anything.
