1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

2010 f250 repeatably experienced violent shaking of the front wheels and steering at highway speeds (commonly referred to as "death wobble"). This shaking has been so violent that I had no control of the vehicle steering and had to abruptly brake and slow to a near stop in 75 mph traffic! vehicle has 71k miles and has been very well maintained and garage kept (single owner). Substantial repairs have been made to replace steering dampener, track bar, drag link, and steering gear. Technician explained that all of these parts were severely damaged from the death wobble.

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2024

I have a 2010 Ford,f250 super duty 4wd. After hitting a "transition" bump on a feeder road to a hiway I encountered violent shaking of my front end. I was accelerating to hiway speed of 70mph but I was almost forced off the road at 60 so I slowed to 50mph. The front end was still shaking so I pulled over to inspect the wheels because it felt like they were loose. Nothing was obvious so I got back on the freeway and could not drive over 40 then. Even still it shook. I was about 60 miles from home on Saturday. I took the truck to my local shop and he informed me that it was the "death wobble"! I was unaware of this "safety issue" until then. There were 3 components on the front end that were replaced and the cost was $811. 50!! there were no warning lights or buzzers before the incident and if I was not a cautious driver I would have certainly run off the road and, or, injured. No photos were taken or police reports but I do have an invoice. I feel something should be done about this especially if Ford is aware of the issue. If safety is a concern of theirs, they certainly do not live up to it! along with the money and stress it is costing people. Ive called Ford cs and they told me there's nothing they can do.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2024

When driving and hitting small cracks/holes/rough road the whole front of truck bounce and causes steering issues and also rough riding and also causes a really bad vibration.

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2022

The vehicle has been experiencing a death wobble in the front suspension for about 2 years. I have had regular maintenance of the vehicle at a local Ford dealership. The first incident occurred shortly after I had the vehicle serviced for oil change and tire rotation. I was driving about 75 mph on the I-5 freeway and ran over a transition in the road from blacktop to cement, the entire front end began to violently shake. I slowed down and pulled over and didnt notice anything out of the ordinary, so I continued on. About 30 miles further, I hit a small pothole in the road with the driver side front tire, and the entire front end again began to violently shake. I slowed down and moved to the right, and when I reached about 40 mph, the shaking stopped. I took the vehicle to capistrano Ford and they said some bushings were worn, so they replaced them. When I picked the vehicle up and started driving on the freeway, the violent shaking occurred again. I returned the vehicle to capistrano Ford, and they said they could not duplicate the problem. I had them rotate the tires back to their original positions and did not have another incident for several months. Then, the violent shaking occurred once again, so I returned the vehicle to capistrano Ford, and had the shocks replaced. They inspected the suspension but did not recommend any other parts be replaced. The violent shaking has continued to occur, and has recently become more frequent. The vehicle has about 106,000 miles, is in excellent condition and has been regularly maintained only at capistrano Ford. I am inputting the date of the most recent incident, although it first occurred about 2 years ago.

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2022

Driving down the road, hit a bump in road, and front end began to shake so hard that I lost control of the truck and ended up on side of the road. Began to try and drive the truck home (less than 5 miles away), it began to shake 2 more times. Called dealership, they stated it was a "death wobble". . . But they don't fix them or correct the issue. I would have to pay for it myself.

6 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2022

When driving at highway speeds, the front end steering wheels will violently begin wo wobble and shake to a severe level that will cause the truck to loss control if the driver does not immediately slow its speed by braking. This action that must be taken to bring the truck back into control is dangerous at highway speeds as other traffic is behind or next to your truck. This has occurred numerous times, with the first time replacing all four tires and over the past several years has created dis-pleasurable driving. This manufacture defect by Ford must be corrected as many lives are a risk due to an engineering problem with the front suspension.

7 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2022

When driving over 50 miles per hour, on highways especially, the front end of the truck and steering wheel starts to shake uncontrollably and I have to immediately slow down and/or pull off the road. This is very dangerous considering there are numerous tractor trailers and other vehicles on the highway. It's often impossible to pull over when needed and I am fearful for my life. It has been happening for at least 6 months if not longer.

8 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2022

While travel on the highway at 70 mph upon hitting a bump my steering wheel and front end of the truck began to violently shake. I applied my brake and pulled to the side of the highway the shaking stopped. I inspected the vehicle finding nothing visually wrong. I continued my trip having the violent shaking occur twice more before the conclusion of my trip.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2021

When driving down the road steering wheel and entire truck started wobbling violently. Has done this several times. Only way to make it stop is to almost completely stop the truck. Has happened when driving less than 45mph on city streets and when driving 65mph on the highway.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2021

The front end of my Ford F-250 regularly wobbles uncontrollably when traveling on the freeway at speeds in excess of 50 mph. The shaking is so scary and violent and the only way to stop it is to slow down or stop the vehicle and this is very challenging and dangerous while traveling at high speeds on the freeway with other cars around.

11 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2020

When driving vehicle at highway speed and I hit a bump or ripple in the road the truck will vibrate violently causing possible loss control of vehicle. Must come to stop quickly to stop vibration. Mm.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2020

When traveling at highway speed and I hit a bump or ripple truck will vibrate violently causing potential loss of control. I must reduce speed immediately to gain control and stop the vibration.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2020

Ford f250 superduty. 52,000 miles. Severe shake in the front end of the truck at speed 45-55 mph. Truck also is pulling to the right (not while braking). Highway driving.

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2020

Truck is experiencing the death wobble. Violent shaking and bouncing of the front end and steering assembly. Has happened multiple times- always at freeway speeds after hitting a change in pavement surface- bridge joint; pothole, rough road. Both when empty and when towing a travel trailer. Has happens going straight and also on curves. The violent shaking continues until the truck slows down to a certain point (under 30 mph?) then it returns to normal operations. Having to slow down on the freeway is dangerous! there are numerous articles, videos, etc online that detail the problem. There is also a class-action lawsuit (I am not party to it ). Ford needs to acknowledge the problem and fix it! this should be a safety recall before someone is killed! it is very scary and dangerous and if the driver panics or isn't skilled it could result in a very serious crash. From what I have learned Ford's recommended fix does not fix the problem. Customers spend a lot of money replacing parts but that isn't the solution. The problem persists. My truck is bone stock and well maintained. This is an engineering defect, not a customer maintenance issue.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2020

Periodic loss of control due to extreme shimmy otherwise known as the Ford death wobble. Although the truck is a 2010 it now has 40,463 miles, has no off road use, tires kept balanced and rotated per Ford service, has been treated like a baby and is still in excellent condition. The problem started occurring around 30,000 miles. At unpredictable times the front of the truck will violently start shaking at speeds above about 50 mph. I have run into a ditch while trying to regain control, other times have swerved out of my lane of traffic. This condition renders the $59,000 truck highly dangerous. I am terrified to drive the truck. The Ford dealer said they could repair the truck for about $1000 but this is not my fault, all proper maintenance has been done. The truck has been gently driven. Ford should be required to recall and repair the truck. The problem started at about 30,000 miles. The latest occurrence was June 7, 2020.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2020

Driving on the highway at speeds between 65-75 mph, when you hit a bump, or any rough patch of road, the truck shakes violently in the front end. I have heard this referred to as the death wobble. This has been happening periodically over the years I have owned the truck. Despite new tires, alignment, shocks, brakes, etc. , the truck still has this wobble. There are two spots on the highway I travel within 15 minutes of my house this happens every time I drive the truck. Both are where the road transitions to a bridge overpass.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

Death wobble. Hitting a bum at highway speeds and the struck loses control. Have to pull over onto the shoulder for hit to stop. Almost took me into the other lane and hit a car. Very dangerous. Has happened several times.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

Issue #1 at highway speeds and after hitting a bad bump on road, the truck would go into an uncontrollable wheel hop. The only way to bring vehicle back under control is to slow down below 40 mph. This nearly caused a wreck on the interstate. Issue #2. The truck cab bushings will crumble in your hand. This causes a very harsh ride over any type of bumps. I was told by Ford dealership this is not covered even though there is only 62k miles on it. It cost over $1600 to have these 2 issues fixed. I have 3 other friends with the same year model truck that had to have the same things replaced. The dealership say they replace the same things on 3 to 4 trucks a month. This is a known issue Ford should be replacing free of charge.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2017

Between 50 and 60 miles an hour if you hit a little bump the left front wheel will start hopping and shaking all over the road and you have to come to a complete stop it's noted on the internet as the Ford death wobble.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

While driving on any highway if you hit a small bump or go over an overpass at a speed greater than 35mph the suspension and front wheels start shaking violently and the steering will lose control. You have to come to a complete stop before it will stop. The violent wheel and suspension oscillation can cause the driver to lose control. Since this occurs on major overpasses and turns it has an increased likelihood of causing accidents which could result in serious injury or death. The steering and suspension issue could cause severe injury or death. The NHTSA must investigate this issue with Ford immediately or it will result in highway accidents that could result in serious injury or death. There is an overwhelming amount of consumer complaints and data to suggest the issue is widespread and that there was a design flaw in the suspension and steering of these vehicles. A federal investigation is needed along with a manufacturer recall of the dangerously defective suspension and steering assemblies of these vehicles.

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2016

Driving down the freeway at about 70 mph, the front end began to shake/shutter violently. It freaked me out and I was convinced I blew a tire. I pulled over and investigated and nothing seemed broken and all tires appeared fine. I took the truck to a mechanic and he replaced the steering dampner, convinced that was the problem. A few days later I was driving down the freeway and it did it again. I didn't hit a pothole or any obstruction. When this happens, if I'm not paying attention or don't have both hands on the wheel, there is a serious risk I will cause a major accident as this rather large truck wants to go careening across multiple lanes of traffic until the speed is reduced to below ~40mph and the violent shuddering ceases. Ford needs to address this problem. I've seen complaints on this now that date over 10 years old.

22 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

While travelling approximately 65 mph through a curved area of highway, vehicle hit a small bump. Vehicle began to shake violently and uncontrollably in the front end and steering wheel. Once I slowed to approximately 40 mph vehicle stopped shaking. When I pulled over to attempt to identify problem, a woman who had been driving in the lane next to me stopped. She advised me that she saw the incident and said that my front driver's side tire looked like it was about to fall off. I checked suspension and did not notice any obvious problem. I checked lug nuts and all were tight. I was on my way home from a vacation and continued driving approximately 125 more miles without incident. After researching on internet, I am sure that I experienced what is being referred to on the internet as the "death wobble" my truck only has 59,000 miles and is all stock. Tires have relatively good tread and were inflated at proper pressure. I think this could have caused and serious accident and I am fortunate that it did not. It felt very dangerous. I want to report this so that Ford will address this issue.

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-250 sd. The contact stated that while driving at any speed over 20 mph, the vehicle would experience severe front end vibrating and shaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-250. The contact drove over a slight bump at 70 mph and the vehicle began to vibrate severely. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. 25 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2014

While driving on crowded interstate hwy. Vehicle makes contact with a expansion joint and truck goes into severe wobble and shaking. Had to brake speed in moving traffic to almost a complete stop to cure wobble. Very dangerous and scary. Luckily drivers were courteous enough to let me get it under control without running into my rear and causing a pile up. Have had vehicle in repair shop to inspect with no identifiable solution. Now have a fear of returning back home the 500 miles. Wife is paranoid and fearful. This is the third occurrence in the last year. Manufacturers need to find a fix for this or serious injury could occur.

26 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

When I hit a bump in a road going over 50 its a terrible shacks and we have replaced a lot of stuff mechanics really unknowing the problem. And problem still unsolved all that money we paid for the truck and I pray that truck don't be the death of me and my kids we need some help on getting our only transportation fixes we have had several bad close to death experience in that truck when on the highway its shacks uncontrollably. Tonight I like to cause a serious accident due to uncomfortable shacks.

27 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

I just bought this vehicle and was driving the highway at 65 mph. I went over the expansion joint on a bridge and lost control of the vehicle. It jumped into the next lane. Thank god no one was in the other lane and no one got hurt. My family and others could have been killed. The dealership said the steering damper was bad. I'm sorry but a bad steering damper when you are traveling 65 mph over a small bump should not make your vehicle jump into the next lane and loose control. This must be fixed by Ford. I am reading that other people have had to have all of the front end parts replaced and then the problem returns again. What is the NHTSA doing about this? do not have VIN at this time my truck is at the dealers.

28 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

About 6 months after the purchase of my 2010 Ford f250 king ranch 4x4 my truck began to have serious shimming in the front in when I would hit bumps on highways. This schim is listed as the death wobble on many websites. I have had the front end repaired 3 times and going on the fourth time today when I took the truck in for service. I spoke to my service manager and asked if he knew of a permanent fix and he spoke to the shop foreman and advised me they can only fix this problem tempoarily. This last time this happened I was pulling my 35 foot travel trailer and almost rolled my truck with my family in the vehicle. This is a very serious and dangerous issue and I am having trouble understanding why a major safety recall has not been filed. You can google f250 death wobble and you will see tons of websites with information about this and complaints that Ford has no fix for this issue. I think if Ford can not fix a major safety issue like this then they should replace these trucks with new ones. It seems to be the year 2008-2010 with the major issues. Every friend I know that owns one of these trucks has said they have the same issue and they arer scared to drive their trucks. I feel exactly the same and I would like something done for everyones safety. I am looking into the lemon law to see if I fall into the requiements to file a claim for a new vehicle.

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

At 65 mph, hit uneven road, front end wobbled dramatically !!!!!!!!! truck went out of control & had to reduce speed to below 40 mph to regain control. Continues to happen all the time now at over 55 mph and hitting a bump. New tires all the way around, all tire pressure maintained properly at 62 to 65 psi. . . . This is a safety concern and is definitely a flawed designed that Ford is well aware of and refuse to acknowledge. Does someone have to die to get their attention ?????.

30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-250 diesel. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle would start shaking violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. As a precaution, the dealer replaced the dual shocks and tires. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure persisted. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 46,000.

31 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2012

While driving about 60mph on loop 250 here in midland, TX I went over an overpass changing from the pavement to concrete. At that point I completely lost control of the vehicle due to very bad front wheel wobble. I was only able to regain control by coming to almost a complete stop very closely avoiding an accident. I have noticed this death wobble before on my 2007 Ford F-250 and now it has started on my 2010. I took the 2007 to the dealer many times and they could never duplicate the problem or would use an excuse that they adjusted the air pressure on tires. This problem is a major issue and will cause serious accidents if it has not already. After arriving at work I searched the internet for others with similar problems and it seems all Ford F-250 4x4's have the same issue all they way up to the current model. There are tons of youtube videos showing exactly what happened to me stating that Ford will not correct the problem. . Read more...

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2011

While traveling on the highway if I hit any bumps while taking a curve my steering wheel and tire shakes violently until I slow down and straighten out the suspension. This has happend several times and I have check to make sure my tires are properly inflated.

33 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2011

The front end of this truck shakes violently to the point of almost causing it to fall apart. This happens when you hit any uneven road above 55 mph. You can't steer and have to apply the brakes and bring the vehicle down to about 30mph before it stops. This happens all the time on the freeway and having to stop and bring it down to 30mph is extremely dangerous in los angeles.
