1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2024

What is the “death wobble” on Ford trucks? it’s as scary as the name sounds. The death wobble is a violent shaking that happens to the front end of many Ford f250 and f350 super duty trucks. It typically occurs at speeds over 50 miles per hour. It can also happen after going over bumps or grooves in the road. To stop the shaking, drivers must quickly slow way down or even stop completely.

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2023

Driving more than 70 mph the truck started to move suddenly and I could not control it until I got off the road, until I was unable to control the truck by reducing the speed to 20 mph.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2023

The steering wheel shakes violently at speeds of 50-55 mph. The vehicle drives without any issues then without any warning or warning lights the vehicle starts shaking to the point you lose steering control and must immediately slow down until the shaking stops. This vehicle is available for inspection if needed. The safety of myself as well as others is due to the loss of steering at higher speeds and the need to immediately slow down. When this occurs it is often in highway traffic. This vehicle has been inspected and new shocks and steering damper as well as new tires were installed. The problem still exist.

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2023

Ford 2013 f250 death wobble, it is real! it is scary! it is unpredictable and extremely dangerous. Something in the design of the front end needs to be fixed ASAP. My latest experience with this happened on 7/13/23. The worst death wobble that I have ever experienced happened today on the freeway at full speed (65mph). The first time today, my truck started to violently shake, prompting me to immediately slow down from 65mph to about 30-40mph during my morning commute to work/in traffic. Then, again a minute later, but this time it was seven worst! the death wobble started again at full speed and the front end started shaking uncontrollably and drifted my vehicle from the number 2 lane into the number 1 lane with other cars doing same speed. This violent shaking caught the attention of the other drivers and everyone slowed down, so I could make it into side of the road. 65mph to 30 in just seconds and crossing into another lane. This could have killed someone, including myself and my family. No, not inspected yet. No messages.

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2023

My wife and I were traveling on interstate and hit a rough section of road outside nashville when the truck started to shake uncontrollably, and we nearly hit the center concrete barrier. We had to completely stop before the violent shaking stopped. The next day the same thing happened on another rough section on the interstate. We had cars on both sides of us so could not immediately move to the road shoulder and had to slow down in middle of interstate to stop the violent shaking and nearly hit a car. I am surprise we did not get hit by someone rear ending us due to having to stop in middle of interstate with traffic traveling 70 mph. I have been reading up on what happened, and people are calling this abnormal sustained wheel oscillation or death shake. I want to make sure this is incident is logged and reviewed as someone will end up getting killed due to this issue if happening on other f250 trucks.

6 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2022

I recently purchased this vehicle with approximately 93000 miles on it. I have been experiencing wheel oscilation (aka death wobble). I have replaced numerous suspension parts (tie rod ends, pitman arm, track bar bushing, track bar ball joint, front shocks). I have spent close to $1000 on trying to resolve the problem and am obviously not done yet. I am still experiencing this problem intermittently. The mechanic hasn't been able to find any loose or worn parts but there is obviously a problem, perhaps in the design of the system. I know I am not the only one experiencing this issue. When this "death wobble" occurs on the interstate the vehicle becomes almost impossible to control. The only way to make it stop is to slow down to below 50 mph.

7 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

At speeds over 60mph when driving across an uneven road surface or bump the cab of the truck begins to shake uncontrollable and will not stop until the speed is below 35. It has happened multiple times on major highways and changing lanes and reducing speed has nearly caused a traffic accident.

8 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2022

I was driving on the highway going 70mph, and hit a bump in the road that caused the whole truck to violently and aggressively shake. I let off the gas. The truck was hard to control and it was a scary 10 seconds. Eventually it regained stability and it was rolling normal.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2022

Death wobble, after replacing everything possible including the entire front end it still didn’t solve the issue.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2022

While driving on the interstate near my current jobsite location, I went over a rough surface section of road on a curved exit ramp and my front end began to violently wobble. I have felt it shake a littke on this section of road, but now it has become more violent. This seems to only happen when I hit a bump at higher speeds, but not every time I hit a bump. Maybe 5% of the bumps will cause this wobble, which will not stop until I lower my speed signifigantly.

11 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

Repeating death wobble. Have replace all suspension and steering parts 3 times and the wobble returns.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

Experience the death wobble 3 times in the past month.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

My 2013 Ford f250 superduty has the "death wobble" problems with the front steering/suspension. This problem should be fixed before it gets someone killed. My first occurrence happened while I was on us-64 west bound near raleigh, nc while traveling at ~70mph (the posted speed limit). Narrowly avoid other vehicles while trying to maintain control and get stopped.

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2021

I was driving at 70 mph on the highway and hit a bump and it suddenly went into a death wobble to the point where I could barely hold onto the steering wheel.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2021

While driving down I-75 I noticed my husbands front tires wobbling and shaking uncontrollably on 3 different occasions in less than 30 miles. This is not the first time this has happened. We have had the truck serviced many times trying to fix the issue but it still persists. This is something Ford should be held responsible for. It is putting our lives and others in danger.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2021

Vehicle has always vibrated at highway speeds. This last weekend it started shaking so violently that even the phone mount on the windshield came off, forcing me to pull over on i75. After checking tires and tire pressure got back on the road, vibration came back but not as severe. Have had the tires checked for alignment and balance, no issues there. Seems to only be a problem at 60 mph+.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2021

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-250. The contact stated that after he had the vehicle serviced at all star Ford - canton (17849 I-20, canton, TX 75103, (903) 567-4144) for an oil change, after picking up the vehicle, while driving 35 mph, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact called the same dealer star Ford - canton and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2021

Cab bushings need to be replaces at 61k miles. Vehicle body makes a load noise and shifts to the side when going over an incline. Vehicle inspected at Ford shop and needs 16 cab bushings replaced.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2021

As I was driving down the interstate at about 75 mph I encountered a worn out area in the road that I could not avoid due to traffic. The truck immediately began shaking violently and I was horrified. I thought I had perhaps had a tire blowout, and immediately pulled onto the shoulder to inspect. Realizing my tires looked ok, I got my wits about me and began driving again. To my surprise, the truck behaved as if nothing had happened. I drove the truck for another year with no issues until about 2 months ago when it happened again two different times, once going about 70 mph and the other at about 62mph. I was finally able to get the truck to a shop where repairs were made to the tune of > $1200. 00. I thought I could breathe easier now driving it, but it happened again last week. It is a terrifying experience, and I can hardly wait to get rid of this death trap.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2020

Extreme death wobble happens when driving above 55mph and there's a bump or dip of any size in the road. The truck becomes impossible to control until you come to almost a complete stop this has been fixed 3 times now it initially started in 2017 with just about 140,000 miles on the truck (which had a new front end installed by Ford).

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

2013 F-250 platinum super duty power stroke truck started bumping and vibration in the front end and steering at 65mph after slight bounce on a road transition from road to bridge. Vibration increased until truck was put into neutral and allowed to slow down. Once under 50 mph truck regained stability.

22 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

Starts wobbling (shaking) uncontrollably sideways & up and down when I am driving above 65 miles an hours over uneven roads and I hit a mild bump in the road. Only stops wobbling when I am able to get the truck to slow down below 60 miles a hour. Started happening 3 months ago. Has been happening much more frequently recently.

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2020

Driving on major interstate when I drove through bumpy area of the hwy. The front started shaking violently unexpected. I snice have learned this is called "death wobble" I reduced speed to exit to the shoulder but the shaking has stopped. I exited the next safe exit and looked at my front suspension/steering and did not see any noticable damage. I continues for approx 10 miles when it started again after crossing bumpy portion of hwy. Over fear of causing bodily injury to myself or someone else. I brought in to the dealership.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

Was driving down the interstate and drove over a rough patch of road and the truck violently started shaking. I was driving ~70 mph when this occurred and had to take evasive maneuvers to get off the road and subside the situation. This occured 4 more times on the trip and once in the middle of busy traffic. After much reading and discovering several videos of the same situation, this appears to be the Ford F-250/350 "death wobble".

25 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

Interstate hwy high speed braking for exit suddenly caused violent shacking of entire vehicle and steering wheel(death wobble).

26 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

Driving south on texas highway 71 from austin TX, just south of smithville texas my steering began to violently shake and cause me to lose control of my steering. I was able to bring the truck to a stop. This was a very freighting experience for me and my wife.

27 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I am experiencing what is called the Ford death wobble. Hitting a rough spot, or a tar line will cause violent steering wobble. Must slow down below 40 mph to stop the problem.

28 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

At higher speeds in motion on a highway when vehicle hits a bump or groove the truck goes into a violent shake until speed is lowered to around 30 mph. Unknown part.

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2019

Truck will start to violently shake while on interstate after going over ruff road or bridge joint. It seems like the wheels are going to break off. This happened to me numerous times. First time I got new tires and alignment. The last time this occurred was on the way home from school and we passed over a bridge joint. The truck started to shake so much the kids started to scream "daddy daddy!!" I applied the breaks as calmly as I could but I had 18 wheeler on both sides and just had to keep applying breaks until I got the vehicle down to approximately 35 mph when the shaking subsided. With both my girls in their car seats and both weeping, asking if we were going to die and that this truck is scary. I was scared to drive home the rest of the 15 minute drive. Both kids (4 and 9) are now scared to ride in my truck and want me to sell it. This seems to be a known issue called "death wobble" with Ford superdutys. Ford seems to have a recall for 2017 and newer but this does nothing for my 2013. This is a real problem and it is not due to lack of maintenance or caused by the customer, it is a design flaw. I can show you a part of road where this will occur at a high frequency if you want to get your own superduty and come test it. Please do something to force Ford to address this issue, even if its a parts list to buy to get it fixed on your own. I can't seem to find a real answer as to why this happens.

30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2019

I recently bought this truck like 4 or 5 months ago. I was on a back road nm185 going 55 and all of a sudden the truck started shaking uncontrollably and I couldn't steer it. The truck went into the other lane. Thankfully I was able to get control back before a vehicle was in front of us in the other lane. It was a very close call and extremely scary. I had children in the truck that were especially scared. We went 40 the rest of the way home without more issues. I later had the truck taken to a shop where they said the track bar and tie rod ends needed to be replaced which of course aren't covered in my warranty. This is a major safety issue and was very fortunate that it didn't happen when in a high traffic area.

31 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

My vehicle has experienced the f250 death wobble on several occasions and it is a scary feeling when it happens. Th death wobble usually happens when you are traveling at highway speeds any you hit a rough patch or bump in the road. During the death wobble the truck bounces all over the road and the front suspension gets light and it is hard to maintain the vehicle in the proper lane . For these reasons, I refuse to allow my wife to drive this truck. Seeing how this is a common hot button issue on the f250 forum, I am surprised that Ford has not been forced to recall these vehicles and to fix these known issues before someone is involved in a fatal accident as a result of the f250 death wobble!.

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the front end of the vehicle started shaking with no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with axle shafts needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who then replaced an unknown steering part however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.

33 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2019

Bought the truck in December and noticed it had a shake, took it to the dealership and they "fixed' it. Put new suspension, and balanced the tires. Now in April, it started to shake again.

34 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2019

Death wobble. While on the interstate driving approx. 65 mph, I went over a bump (bridge expansion gap) and my truck began shaking violently. I had no control over steering and was in the middle lane of the 3 lane interstate. I began drifting to the passing lane as I was on a curve and could not steer my truck. I had to abruptly slow down to 35mph before the shaking subsided and I was able to regain control over my truck. This is a well-known and well documented issue with Ford and their superduty line of trucks. Its a shame people will have to die before action takes place as Ford will not openly admit to a fault. Their fix is half hazard and does not take care of the problem.

35 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

I recently purchased this vehicle and yesterday while driving down the interstate I expierenced what is being labeled as the death wobble I actually thought my truck was going to roll over and by reading all the post that I have found its a common occurence in Ford f250s and should be handled by Ford not out of my pocket I just bought the truck and was not [lanning on having to sink money I dont have in it but I have to because if not its going to kill me or someone please help.
