36 Diesel Engine problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/12/2009

The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-250 superduty. While driving 40 mph, the engine shut off and the vehicle continued to roll. The driver attempted to depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, but it would not stop. The vehicle finally rolled to a stop in the grass without a crash. The vehicle was very hot and flames were noticed coming from the front of the vehicle, directly under the engine. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was burned from the tires to the windshield and dashboard. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 07v553000 (engine and engine cooling:engine:diesel). The current and failure mileages were approximately 160,000. Updated 03/18/09. Updated 03/18/09.

37 Diesel Engine problem of the 2008 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 01/20/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Ford F-250. While driving various speeds, the vehicle hesitates when the accelerator pedal is depressed. The failure has been occurring ever since the dealer changed the computer in the internal engine. The contact received a notice stating that it needed to be changed. The dealer stated that the vehicle was fine, although it has been in the repair shop approximately three times for this same issue. The failure is due to the computer module, which has caused the vehicle to have poor fuel mileage. The dealer acknowledges the failure and the contact believes it is a safety issue. The failure mileage was 16,000 and current mileage was 23,000. Updated 8/10/09 updated 08/13/09.

38 Diesel Engine problem of the 2008 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/02/2008

On 2 oct 2008, radiator was discovered to be cracked and leaking at left lower corner at 6,240 miles and was replaced by Ford under 3yr/36000 warranty. Ford installed degas bottle "t" fitting to eliminate any further radiator failure. On 12 Mar 2012, radiator was discovered to be cracked and leaking from left lower corner at 47,895 miles. Ford said failure was caused due to an hyper-extended thermostat. Ford replaced thermostat under warranty but would not cover radiator under warranty. Radiator was replaced by non-Ford mechanic. On 25 Apr 2013 radiator was discovered to be cracked and leaking from right side seam at 58,520 miles. Ford was contacted and offered no help outside of warranty. Radiator was replaced by non-Ford mechanic outside of warranty. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know there is something seriously wrong with the 08 f250 6. 4 cooling systems that Ford fails to take responsibility for. I tow a 35ft 5th wheel several times a year and my biggest fear is the radiator going out while towing. If the radiator blew and the truck went into "reduced power" mode, there is a great possibility that a life threatening incident could occur, especially while towing on a step incline. I hope Ford figures this out soon before someone gets hurt.

39 Diesel Engine problem of the 1996 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

I have a 1996 Ford f250 7. 3 liter diesel truck. It stalls on occasion at low speeds which I feel is a safety issue. I found out that Ford had a recall on 1997 and newer trucks because of the cam position sensor. Everything I could find out about my problem is the same. The cps unit causes this problem. I feel Ford should replace my cps unit as well.

41 Diesel Engine problem of the 1996 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

While driving in traffic my camshaft position sensor failed without warning causing my diesel engine to shut off, leaving me with no steering and braking ability. This action almost caused a traffic accident. My truck was towed to my local repair shop and the camshaft position sensor was replaced. I retained the sensor that was replaced.

42 Diesel Engine problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-250 super duty. The contact stated that whenever the air conditioner was operated, he could smell exhaust fumes in the interior of the vehicle. The failure would persist whether driving or sitting idle. When sitting idle, the smell was overwhelming. The contact also stated that when defrosting the windows in cold weather, the fumes would cause the windows to fog excessively. The dealer advised they were aware of the failure however; the contact would be responsible for any repairs. The vehicle was not serviced. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 124,702. Updated 12/01/10. Updated 12/07/10.

43 Diesel Engine problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 06/25/2008

I have a 2001 Ford f250 super duty truck with the 7. 3l diesel engine, I had to have the camshaft sensor replaced at my own expense at the local Ford dealership at a cost of nearly $1,100. 00. When the recall notice came in the mail, I called and made appointment to have it checked and sure enough the new camshaft sensor was the correct one. The Ford motor company dealer only issued me a $300. 00 refund. What is right about that.

47 Diesel Engine problem of the 2007 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

After about 28,000-30,000 the truck would severely buck/jerk/hop when towing a load. The problem occurs in third gear most commonly. Upon acceleration up a hill, the truck has an extreme buck. The rpms raise and lower up to 400 rpm. Ford has determined this action to be normal. The only way I have fond to stop this, is to let all the way off the accelerator, and then try again. The truck will then start this again, in which I have to let off. On a safety concern, this occurs on most entrance ramps to interstates, which makes for a hazardous condition trying to merge into traffic, because basically Ford is telling me not to try to accelerate past second gear until I am no longer headed uphill. Fords first suggestion was the trailer type, which had no effect (TSB 07-6-09), which only concerned gooseneck trailers. The truck also does this action with a bumper pull trailer. I have taken the truck in 11 times since July 2007, and the service men tell me they can feel it, there is a problem, but no one knows what it is. Ford then came to the result this was normal for that truck. At 8000 miles, the truck had a bad injector, after replacing this, the dealership "updated the computer. " since that time the truck has not had as much power as when I purchased it. The serviceman told me sometimes these updates will change the output of the truck, or decrease the power. The truck now has a leak in the rearend, which I believe to be a result of the bucking and jerking Ford is calling normal.

48 Diesel Engine problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

When in a slow acceleration the motor rpm will race and you have to quickly apply the brake in order to avoid a mishap. The next thing that is a safety hazard is the cab fills with diesels fumes. Making everyone nauseas. Acceleration from stop vehicle billows white smoke and is sluggish.

49 Diesel Engine problem of the 1996 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/09/2008

My 1996 f250 with a 7. 3 liter powerstroke . Was hunting for months , I attributed this to fuel , but then it stalled on my wife . Followed by stalling on me then had to have it towed home . The problem , cps camshaft position sensor. I had heard about this before with other trucks most times leading to an accident. I was lucky but not happy you should recall these vehicles at Fords expense fix the problem forever and reimburse any out of pocket expenses.

50 Diesel Engine problem of the 2008 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/04/2008

Ever since I purchased a 2008 Ford F-250 super duty pick up truck with the 6. 4 diesel engine it has had a problem with an intermittent problem with the engine. For no reason sometimes when you accelerate the engine will stumble and a cloud of white smoke pours out of the exhaust pipe. The smoke is so severe it will blind anyone behind the truck. This has happened several times. I have had several cases when trying to merge into highway traffic the engine will stumble and loose all available power. This could be a drastic problem if this is not corrected by Ford motor company. I have had the truck to the dealer several time and they say it is normal for the truck to do this because it is part of the emissions. If this is the case then they are allowing a dangerous situation to take place.

51 Diesel Engine problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 12/07/2007

1. 1 million Ford 7. 3l turbo diesels recalled under Ford recall 07s57 for model years 1997-2003 for camshaft position sensor problem which causes engine to cut off while running; however when I take my 2001 f250 diesel in with same engine exhibits same problems; Ford dealer told me my truck wasn't covered by the recall because of the "color" of the sensor that was in my truck. I had it repaired anyhow because I have been experiencing the problem for 8-10 months and have been extremely cautious when using the truck crossing intersections and the like due to the engine cutting out. I think it ridiculous that they restrict the recall even though mine exhibits the identical symptoms. While an inexpensive repair, I doubt I shall buy another Ford truck now after having owned 3 of them in the past.

52 Diesel Engine problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 12/02/2007

Occasionally while driving in rain or snow,my Ford diesel engine f250 will stumble or completely stop. On several occasions while driving approx. 30-35 mph the engine stalled causing complete loss of brakes and power steering. I have searched the internet and found this to be a common problem but nobody seems to know how to fix it. I have contacted several Ford dealers and all they can offer is expensive diagnostics with no result.

53 Diesel Engine problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/12/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-250 sd. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle surged to 60 mph without warning and then shut off. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate and the failures were intermittent. As of December 12, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The failure mileage was 64,045 and current mileage was 64,055.

54 Diesel Engine problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/08/2007

Cam position sensor failed on my 2001 Ford F-250 7. 3l diesel while driving on I-495 in va. Failure was without warning which caused the engine to immediately shut down, thus causing severely reduced steering and braking.

55 Diesel Engine problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/19/2007

My truck died on my way home and almost caused me to not only run into a bunch of trees, but almost hit another car in the oncoming lane. My truck just shut off without warning and I had no power steering, power brakes, or any way of an easy stop. I had to get the passenger in the car to help me steer the 7500lb vehicle to the side of the road. I had heard that the camshaft position sensor is notorious for going out at the worst possible moment and didn't believe it until I experienced it myself. I did a little research the next morning and my truck was giving me all the signs of a bad cps. I went to the Ford dealership and bought a new cps for just under $30. I installed it in the parking lot I ended up in and after a few cranks, my truck started right up and hasn't given me any other problems since then pertaining to the cps. I am very disappointed that Ford would mass produce a product that could possibly kill or injure someone in this manner. I believe the average person (man/woman) would not be able to steer this vehicle by themselves if the cps went out on them. I am very lucky I survived this with no injuries of any kind. I hope everyone that drives this series of truck is also as lucky as myself.

56 Diesel Engine problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

Cam position sensor failed on a 2000 Ford f250 w/7. 3l powerstroke diesel engine. This is the 4th cps I've had in this truck. The truck has 60k miles.

57 Diesel Engine problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/13/2007

9/11/05 purchased 4/29/06 truck stalled towed into rancho Ford 5/11/06 truck repaired 2/6/07 tune-up performed at north county Ford ($525. 01) ?engine light is on? noted on invoice. Truck returned same day. Technician stated ?engine light caused by bad glow plug. Not a main concern. ? 9/27/07 oil change 9/28/07 spoke with technician: icp connector, engine harness, injector harness and injectors 6 and 7 are bad and need to be replaced 9/28/07 I called Ford customer service and asked for a total reimbursement or a new truck 10/3/07 received truck back 10/4/07 received call stating Ford believes all work is complete and claim is denied. 10/13/07 truck will not start 10/15/07 called Ford asking for new truck 10/16/07 received call from rancho Ford stating: injector harness and number 8 injector are bad 10/22/07 received call from stating Ford will not cover the cost of the towing and the request for replacement has been denied. 10/24/07 received truck from rancho Ford repairs seemed to mirror what north county Ford had done. 10/25/07 sent email to (gm north county Ford) and (gm rancho Ford) that contained this timeline. 10/25/07 spoke with from north county Ford and he stated that he did not understand why Ford would not cover the towing because it was under warranty. He also stated that the engine that is in my truck (the 6. 0l) are known to have these problems and he has seen ?many? cases where all the injectors need to be replaced. I asked why his invoice stated after repairs to injectors 6 and 7, ?all injectors good? and just ten days later injector 8 needed to be replaced. He said Ford does not allow the dealerships to replace parts until complete failure. Basically injector 8 could have tested poor and they were not able to replace it.

58 Diesel Engine problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/18/2007

While on the way home from vacation on 9/18/07 (towing my 32 foot fifth-wheel) my Ford F-250 diesel (7. 3 liter) started acting as if the rear-end was slipping. The check engine light came on and then the engine stalled. Luckily I was in a construction area at the time and the speed limit was only 35 mph. I pulled over and had to be towed to a Ford dealer 10 miles back. Tri star of somerset, PA ( which is a Ford dealer) determined the problem was the cam shaft sensor. It cost $243. 00 for repair and replacement of sensor (which took 8 days due to work load backup). It cost me $200. 00 to have my RV towed to a local campground (which I no longer have a receipt for). It cost another $180. 00 to keep RV at campground until repairs to truck were completed. In addition to this, it cost $225. 68 to rent a car from tri star to continue 200 miles home to wait until truck was repaired. Today I read in the paper that there is a recall on 1997 through 2003 Ford superduty trucks. However, my F-250 is not among the recalls (Ford/ e-series, excursion, f-450 superduty, f-550 superduty. Old part was kept by tri star but I still have the receipts dated 25sept07. What recourse do I have? p. S. Luckily a state patrol officer happened by when this occurred and assisted me in contacting a tow truck CO.

59 Diesel Engine problem of the 2004 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/05/2007

2004 king ranch, 6. 0 diesel, turbo problems, again. Now truck surges at low speeds, in parking lot and at stop light. If my foot is not on the brake, the truck will move forward! almost hit a lady in the shopping center parking lot. Serviced for problems 8 times over 36 months. Can't fix?.

60 Diesel Engine problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/04/2007

On September 4, 2007, my vehicle would not start. I towed it to the nearest Ford dealer where they worked on it and replaced the cam sensor (trouble code p-0340). I have complained about this code popping up since 15,000 miles. The vehicle now has 90,000 mile. This is the same sensor used on all 7. 3 diesel engines since 1999 through 2003. All of the diesel forums say that this sensor is always going out. Why isn't Ford doing something about this since they obviously know about the problem. This is an expensive problem to fix and the part should have been redesigned by now. There should be a recall on this part. Updated 12-12-07. Updated.

61 Diesel Engine problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

64 Diesel Engine problem of the 2007 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/20/2007

The vehicle lacks acceleration from a standing stop, when you try to merge into traffic the vehicle hesitates and will not move for a 2 to 3 second span causing vehicles on the highway to close on the vehicle. On two occasions I had to swerve off the road to avoid a collision.

65 Diesel Engine problem of the 2007 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/20/2007

The truck I am paying over $50,000 for has left me stranded and has been towed 3 times in the last month. Purchased end of Jan. '07, has 30,000 miles with a diesel engine. I am afraid to take this truck back on the road and Ford says all they are obligated to do is repair the truck. This is the 4th attempt.

66 Diesel Engine problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/06/2007

I have a new 2006 Ford F-250 sd diesel 6. 0l. The first year I owned it 7,000 miles I blew a head gasket. It took Ford more than 5 weeks to fix it and 2 different dealerships of hassle. 6 months later the problem has happened again. I spoke with Ford they gave me an appointment 1 month after I called to set the appointment. After that month dealership took 4 weeks of my time with my truck and didn't fix a thing. Told me they were to busy to deal with me and I should take it to another dealership to get fixed. Got Ford customer relations involved and they have done nothing. I now have my "unfixed" truck in my driveway with another appointment 2 weeks away and that dealership says it will be some time before they can get to it. No customer service plus they haven't offered me any money for car rental fees nothing. Please advise. Updated 01/11/08. A complaint was filed with the police. Updated 12/12/07.

67 Diesel Engine problem of the 1997 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/31/2007

Monday, July 31 2007, I experienced the last of a series of intermittent stalling events in my 1997 Ford f250 hd vehicle, equipped with a 7. 3 dit powerstroke diesel. Subsequent to my own investigations, I discovered that the cam position sensor was a component implicated in such events. I replaced the component on July 27, 2007, after an increase in stalling problems. The condition repeated on the later date above, and I drove the vehicle to a repair facility. They could not find any diagnostic codes from the pcm, but the stalling episodes increased during their analysis. After performing other system diagnostic procedures, they were left with the final conclusion that the cps must be the culprit for the stalling condition. The newer cps I installed was replaced by the repair technician with another cps. To date the condition appears resolved. I have retained all parts and the repair work-order.

The current and failure mileages were 1,000. Updated 02-01-08 updated 02/01/08.

69 Diesel Engine problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/11/2007

Cam position sensor failed on 2002 Ford f250 w. 7. 3l diesel. When this sensor fails you loose all power assist and the steering becomes very hard and breaks are at best no existent. I was able to get the truck to the side of the highway and not become a hazard. Replace sensor with spare I had with me due to multiple failures over the years made me aware to keep an extra with me at all times.
