1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/04/2020

Driving on expressway in georgia vehicle shut down approximately 90 miles after getting gas. Towed vehicle to Ford dealer who said there was gas in the diesel fuel tank which resulted in blown engine. State farm was called, after about 2 weeks they took samples and claimed there was no evidence of gas. They claimed there were issues with the engine (6. 4 super duty Ford) in the past. We put 20,000 into the truck to have the engine replaced. Now we are wondering if this could happen again.

Pulling my fifth wheel trailer up a hill at 50mph the engine just shut down very abruptly. No alarms or lights that I saw. After letting it sit for a minute or so, put it in park and it restarted, oil temp at 240, trans: temp at 201. First time this has happened. A little over 50,000 miles.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 1997 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/28/2015

The truck would stop running while driving down the street, not start after driving, stop shut off and then would not start. Some times it may not start for several days then all of a sudden it would start up again and be fine for weeks then would start the whole process over again. It may stop at any time any where whether highway or city street. Total loss of power, engine shuts off. I had many extremely dangerous situations, with family members and other vehicles causing them to make evasive actions. This vehicle has a manufactures buy back from original purchaser when, new but no explanation could be found. I spoke to Ford and they said they have no record of the buy back. It is on the title also.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 06/26/2015

While driving at 35 mph on city street "stop safely now" appeared on the dash screen. Within a few second the vehicle shut down, which eliminated the power brakes and steering, while still at 35 mph. This made the vehicle difficult to control and stop. Vehicle would not restart, luckily I was able to pull into a parking lot and out of traffic. This turned out to be any egt sensor failure.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 01/04/2015

While traveling I-10 west near crestview, FL at approximately 70 mph, I received a Ford diagnostic screen notification to stop vehicle immediately. I pulled over on the side of the interstate and slowed the truck to a stop. The engine shut off immediately when I fully stopped. I attempted to restart the truck, but the truck engine would not even 'turn over'. There was no additional information provided by the Ford diagnostic screen. I was stranded on the side of the interstate with family members and luggage at 8pm on a Sunday night, and 2 hours from home (mississippi). I had the truck towed to the nearest Ford dealership. The next day, the dealership informed me that it was a egt sensor failure. This is unbelievable that a failed sensor would leave me stranded without a previous warning stating the shutdown would occur. At least the truck pcm should notify and allow me to put myself and my loved ones in a safe place if the truck was to be automatically shut off.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

This vehicles has experienced two incidents of the failure of the exhaust temperature sensors. The first in oct. 2014 the engine light came on, took the vehicle to the dealer where the issue was diagnosed and fixed. At the time I was a surprised to discover the purpose of the sensors, but not overly concerned. In April 2014, leaving town on a Sunday morning with a horse trailer in tow, at 40 mph on a city street received a message that told me to pull over safely and within 60 seconds the engine shut down leaving me in the right lane of a busy street with two horse int he trailer. No restart, called a friend to come help with the trailer and aaa to tow the vehicle to the dealer. This time a different sensor failed, with no warning. There are so many scenarios where this could result in a catastrophic event, including at highway speed, with the trailer or in a remote location with no ability to restart and move the vehicle. The concept / design of the sensor system makes no sense to me; sensor is designed to shut down the engine when egt indicate overheating, same result with sensor failure. The idea is shut down the engine before it overheats and causes damage, yet a sensor failure, which is apparently a frequent occurence, can create a very dangerous event. I would much prefer engine damage to the alternative.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

Driving through my neighborhood at approximately 30mph. Less than a mile from my house, vehicle displays warning to stop vehicle safely. I began to turn into a driveway so that I could turn around and head back home and the vehicle shut down. My truck was now blocking the roadway and a person's driveway at the only entrance to the subdivision during the morning commute hours. I shut the truck off, and tried to re-start it, but it would not re-start. The vehicle would not shift into neutral so that I could push it out of the roadway. I had to call a tow truck to haul the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership said it was a faulty sensor. (this was the second indecent for me involving a faulty engine sensor. ) I have spent more that $300 fixing sensors that should not fail. Leaving me stranded in the middle of a roadway, blocking traffic. I am just thankful it was in a subdivision and not on a highway.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

Stop safely now came on in display. Continued driving until I came to a stop light. When I slowed to stop and slowed to 3 mph the vehicle shut down in 5 pm traffic. Had it towed to home where it started the next am. Attemped to drive it to the delership under the advisement of the service writer and it shut down again 2 miles from home. Had to wait on a tow again to the dealership. One of the four exhaust sensors had failed. Dealer told me it is a known issue with these trucks.

13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

14 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

Driving down a 6 lane highway in mid day traffic. Had just left my house not 2 minutes earlier. Light comes on says stop safely now. I start to switch lanes and the engine shuts down. I avoided a near collision and swerved into a turn lane. The truck would not even turn over. Called the dealer and after I explained what happened they stated OH you have a bad exhaust sensor it shuts the vehicle down and was informed it is a regular thing. When I got to the dealership they said there is no fix or upgrade just change the sensor. They also said there is no way to know when they are going to go out. They explained when one of the four sensors goes bad it reads a high temp reading and that triggers the shut down. Asked why they don't change the software to give warning when one shows hot and shut down when a minimum of 2 or 3 show hot. I mean if there are 4 sensors and one shows 2200 the others show 200 something tells me the sensors the issue. I am thankful this occurred when it did instead of a minute earlier w hen I initially pulled onto the highway in front of a dump truck. If it had happened then it would have killed me or someone else had the dump truck been forced to swerve. This is a tragedy waiting to happen. I researched it on line and see a lot of other people have experienced the same issue. Please do something. This is a diesel truck.

The contact must pull over and restart the vehicle again. He inspected the vehicle himself with a computer diagnostic machine and determined that the camshaft sensor was failing. The vehicle was previously repaired according to a recall for the camshaft sensor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, but they refused to inspect or repair the vehicle because the warranty was expired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed to take the vehicle to the dealer. If the failure was related to the camshaft sensor, they would not cover the cost because the vehicle was already repaired for that failure. Any parts and labor fees would have to be covered by the contact. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 143,930 and current mileage was 143,984.
