41 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/04/2010

While on vacation truck started losing power then started blowing coolant from the exhaust pipe. Called aaa had truck towed to Ford dealership where they told me truck had bad egr cooler. Not only that but my truck was 8 months out of warranty. Dealership repaired truck, cost was over $2,500. Not only did I have to travel 2 hours to pick my truck up 3 days later after repair, but found online they are a lot of 6. 0 power stroke customers having same issue. I contacted Ford with no resolution, even asked the representative if she could look up some of the same websites that I had, she replied no due to restriction at work. I then offered to email the complaints of others to them which I was told no. I was told my name and information would be saved incase there was ever a recall. This is obviously a defect with this engine and needs to be addressed, and customers reimbursed.

42 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/29/2010

My 2004 F-250 diesel, 79,292 miles, has been at the local Ford dealership since sept. 7th. There are so many diesels broken down, mine did not get pulled into the bay for work until the last week in oct. It is still in the bay waiting an engine as of Nov. 11th. Over 2 months in the shop. They changed the oil prior to diagnosing blown head gaskets and over boosting turbo, so they could not confirm if water was in the oil pan. Diagnoses was to replace the head bolts, gaskets, egr cooler, rebuild an over boosting turbo, at a cost of about $3,000. 00. After the heads were deemed unusable, much pitting, corrosion of the head where the cylinder imprint is located, the cost went to $7,5000. Since they failed to inspect the oil for coolant, I had little alternative than to request an entire engine, at a cost of $15,500. 00. I have worked on engines, and know some of the aspects of blown head gaskets. I requested assistance from Ford. They said the dealership was willing to take a 10% discount. After more phone calls, they offered an additional $400. 00 off after the discount. I am looking at spending $13,500. 00 plus $1,205. 25 in sales tax, back up to about $15,000. 00 for a truck with 79,292 miles. Ford motor corporation did not offer a dime. I am requesting the national transportation safety board investigate, find Ford at fault for knowingly not recommending service bulletins for: 1)over boosting turbos to be replaced with the new designed ones. 2)the head bolts be replaced with the heavier, larger circumference bolts. 3)updated head gaskets. 4)stainless egr cooler so much information has been written on the obvious faults, and the corrections that could be made if Ford were forth coming in disclosing the problems, before consumers were required to make huge investments on their engines. There is also a safety issue of the over boosting, and engine accelerating uncontrollably.

43 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Ford F-250

The egr was being replaced by the dealer when the complaint was filed. The egr was replaced twice. The contact stated that the manufacturer needed to issue a recall on the engine since numerous owners has experienced the problem. The failure mileage was 60,000.

44 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

Our family was traveling to the beach on a very busy interstate when our 2004 Ford f250 diesel, pulling a 35 foot RV, started running hot. I pulled over in the emergency lane to investigate. Let the truck idle and cool for a bit, returned to the interstate to try and get to the next exit for a less dangerous place to work on it. It continued to run hot and upon exiting the interstate on the down ramp the vehicle shutoff, with no power brakes to stop the truck and camper, I was unable to stop the vehicle at the stop sign and blew through it. Thank goodness nothing was coming. Turns out all the water was gone, due to either a blown head gasket or egr oil cooler failure and the motor overheated and ruined. Ford wants to replace the engine for $17,500. The truck has 63,000 miles on it and is just out of warranty. This is a known engine failure problem for Ford yet they do not stand behind the problem. If I had known they were having problems I would have had mine fixed or replaced prior to having to pay thousands of dollars to replace the motor. I paid $50,000 for a truck with a premium to get a diesel that is suppose to last forever, and it does not even last more than 63,000 miles. Thousands of people have had to face this problem, and have had to spend thousands of dollars to fix it. All you have to do is search blown head gaskets Ford f250 on google to find thousands of people with this problem. The extremely hot exhaust gases get recirculation into the intake manifold, but first it has to be cooled. When the cooler fails, all the water from your engine goes out the exhaust, through the turbo (bye bye turbo), then you are pumping extremely hot gases back into the intake manifold which boils the water, creating extremely high pressures, which lifts the heads and blows the head gaskets. What kind of stupid design is that? now I have to pay for all of those design problems? I now have a $50,000 boat anchor, which is not worth repair. Help please!!!!!!.

45 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

Ford 6. 0l diesel egr and oil cooler issues. How many millions of dollars are the owners of these engines going to have to shell out before Ford recalls this motor. When these components go out, there is a total loss of throttle response, and large clouds of white smoke that pour out of the exhaust which poses a huge safety concern. When mine failed, I was able to limp through an intersection just before an 18 wheeler broadsided me. I had my wife and kids in the vehicle with me and we almost lost an entire family. Get it fixed Ford!!! NHTSA has to pressure Ford into getting this recall started. This is an ongoing issue with these motors, and it needs to be corrected on Ford's account.

46 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/24/2010

Filed complaint previously. Egr and oil cooler failure. . . Caused engine failure and hydrolock situation. Total cost of repairs to my vehicle $8650. Sure would be nice for Ford to have a hand in the repairs due to their faulty engine design. Ford refused to help with repair cost. 120k miles. Please launch an investigation into these complaints. I believe you will find enough evidence to warrant an investigation. I am sure that the lobbyist at Ford are doing their job to keep this from becoming a recall situation. It is hurting no one but the owners of this 6. 0l diesel engine!!! we need your help!.

53 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

During replacement of sparkplugs in a 2006 Ford F-250, 5 plugs had to be bored out due the plugs disintegrating upon attempts to remove them. The repair costs are $600-800 to remove the remainder of the plugs and install new plugs. When the Ford service representative was asked what caused this problem and if it would occur again the following answer was provided. During product assembly at the factory , no lubricant was placed on the sparkplug threads in "some models", causing the base to weld itself to the engine. This caused what should be a $300 repair to more than double in cost. Ford should have to bear repair costs to bore out the plugs, not the car owner. This problem is widely known, but the consumer has no course of action except a costly legal remedy. I will no longer purchase Ford products based on my recent problems with their products.

57 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/04/2010

Own a 2005 Ford f250 with a 6. 0 diesel engine. The 6. 0 diesel has a factory defect with the egr value cooler inside the engine rupturing sending coolant into the engine and thru the exhaust into the atmosphere. This should be a recall due to a factory defect. Ford is repairing this problem if it occurs when the vehicle is still under warranty but allowing the consumer to burden the expense if their warranties have expired. The estimated cost is $2600. 00 to $3300. 00. Ford has redesigned the egr value & cooler to handle the pressure better with thicker walls. The Ford dealership has advised that this is a problem that will happen due to the cooler walls being to thin and rupturing under pressure. The end result is a sudden lost of power with possible steering & brake issues in controlling the vehicle. In our family we have purchased 4 of the f250's. I have pictures of the event as it happens and a copy of the repairs needed to fix this problem. I have spoke with kristin berry with your agency and receive an e mail of my complaint but I could not make the necessary changes to the form and resent it. The reference # 10305746.

62 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

Any time I get on the interstate pulling my 7000 gvw trailer, the check engine light comes on. The code is always the same, under/over boost and then you limp along for a few miles and it will start working again. During this time it's hard to maintain a constant speed. The check engine light will come on within 10-15 miles of highway use at around 60 - 65 mph. Every owner that I talk to that has the 6. 0 litre diesal tells me that they all do this and the only way to fix it is to install a egr delete kit at around $1,200. 00. This will cure the problem but will pollute the air more. It's just a bad design and Ford's not going to do anything about it unless the nthsa steps in.

63 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/30/2009

2004 Ford 6. 0 liter diesel motor- egr cooler cracking and thus causing coolant leaks into the exhaust system and engine cylinders. Egr cooler failure causes coolant to enter engine cylinders thus increasing cylinder pressures on heads. Head bolts stretch and head gaskets fail. Water in cylinder leads to major engine failure. 1000's of Ford 6. 0 liter diesel owners have the same problem. Dealers repair them constantly. Ford dealer parts dept states that they have parts in stock because they change them out on a daily basis. My vehicle was 2 months out of warranty when part failed at 53,163 miles. Egr cooler cracked, leaked out coolant in the exhaust and into the motor, thus motor failed. Dealer says need new motor at $10,000. Ford needs to recall the older egr cooler component. Currently when they change them out under warranty, they replace it with a new and improved egr cooler. If it is new and improved, why isn't the old one recalled if they know it is a bad design?.

64 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

The technician stated that on this particular model vehicle he makes at least two repairs a day in reference to this component. Immediately after the repair, the contact smelled an odor identical to antifreeze fluid, and noticed that the radiator did not have any water in it once again. She is in the process of having the vehicle re-inspected. The contact emailed the manufacturer and a representative responded by denouncing any responsibility for her failure. The representative also stated that it was not a manufacturer defect. The failure and current mileages were 108,000.

67 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/16/2008

The above vehicle has had multiple problems due to the design of the engine including such things as the egr cooler, the egr valve (twice), the fuel injector control mod (ficm), the high pressure oil regulator screen, (a . 10 cent piece 450. 00 labor). If you will search this engine from 2003 to 2007 you will find hundred if not thousand of post by owners of the 6. 0 powerstroke that are having the same problems over and over. Ford refuses to do anything to help anyone and they told me in an email you were the only ones that can make them have a recall. I hope you will step up and help all of us. Ford filed suit against the manufacture (internation/ navistar) over this engines problems back in 2004 but they kept selling it knowing it had problems that would be left up to the buyers of the vehicles, I was personally told by a salesman to expect 350,000 miles from this engine. If you can not help me and the others can you tell me what else I can do? will it take legal action or is there another path I can take?.
