While driving sector shaft broke, causing vehicle to lose control.
While driving at any speed and even when vehicle stopped, would step on the brakes and steering wheel would freeze. Consumer won't be able to turn. This happened at all time. Dealer claimed it was a normal operation.
While making a sharp right turn and applying the brakes vehicle would not steer and kept going. Driver hit a little embankment and ended up in a hay field. Air bags did not deploy when this happened, and no one was injured. Vehicle was towed to the dealership for repairs. Also, whole steering gear box was being replaced because the shaft broke.
Consumer stated that the steering wheel was not centered off to the left properly.
You can not turn the steering wheel while your foot is on the brake pedal. Like when you need to park pull in or out of your driveway go at a very slow speed and turn. If you had to turn the wheel and apply the brakes as if a kid run into the road you could not do that.
There is too much play in the steering, especially when driving on the highway. Steering moved either side just a bit, and consumer tried to correct, then lost control.
When the brakes are applied the steering wheel will lock up. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.
