41 problems related to tire tread/belt have been reported for the 1999 Ford F-350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
4 tires purchased from cooper tires failed. On July 22, 2006, the consumer purchased a set of six cooper discover st tires. On October 21, 2008, the first tire failed, with complete tread separation from the carcass which caused damage to the vehicle. On July 8, 2009, the second tire failed with incipient tread separation. On November 20, 2009, the third tire failed catastrophically with complete tread separation and sudden explosive rupture of the carcass, which caused more damage to the consumers vehicle. On April 17, 2010 the fourth tire failed with partial tread separation and sudden explosive rupture of the carcass and the tread area. The consumer learned that cooper changes its rubber compound, perhaps many times without informing suppliers. The consumer stated the fifth tire is now cracking deeply between the tread. The contact owns a 1999 Ford f350. The vehicle has cooper tires. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle began vibrating excessively. The contact pulled over and noticed that the rear driver side tire was completely separated from the vehicle. He replaced the tire. Four weeks later, the tread separated from the front driver side tire. Two weeks later, the rear passenger side tire experienced the same failure. The manufacturer stated that his vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06t016000 (tires:tread/belt); however, all three tires were replaced. The VIN, engine size, tire line and size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 19,000.
: the contact stated while traveling 65 mph, a thumping noise was heard in the front end. The contact slowed the vehicle to 5 mph, and pulled over a mile later. I have had two separate firestone lt265/75r16 steeltex radial r4s tire failures within 700 miles on my 2000 Ford F-350 pickup, resulting in over $4,000. Damage to my vehicle. Firestone has denied the first claim stating I must have hit a pothole. The second claim is pending, waiting for me to send them the other tire. I expect the same responce from firestone,as the tires look exactly the same, like a hand grenade blew up inside them. These are the same tires that cbs news had a report on last Friday night about failures on rescue vehicles from 82 rescue squads in 26 states.

A bridgestone tire that was 14 months old and had only 14,000 miles separated causing a 2 foot section to peel off and damage the vehicle almost causing an accident.
Firestone, steeltex at, size 26575r16: left front tire failed due to tread coming off in one whole piece from tire. Piece wrapped around front axle, doing extensive damage to wiring and other parts. Please describe details.

While driving, vehicle started pulling to the left and there was a slight vibration in the front end. When vibration increased consumer proceeded to slowly pull over to the right side of the roadway. Prior to reaching the far right lane a large piece of tread separated from the right front tire. An inspection of the tire found a section of the tire tread missing. The damaged area started on the outer edge proceeding to the middle of the tire and stopping towards the left side of the tire. The tread separation area is approximately 22 inches long and 5 inches wide. No signs of penetration into the core of the tire were observed. Firestone lt, radial, size 265/75r16 radial. Wrong load rated tire, this model calls for load rate e not d, question the sale at least three times befor purchase. Saleman informed me that these tires were not involved in a recall. Later my wife experienced a blowout on the drivers sid rear tire at 75mph.

This tire experienced total and complete intantainous failure (blew up and ripped to shreads istantainously) causing a complete loss of control and nearly a fatial crash. Tire pressure and load was checked 11 miles earlier, this tire was inflated to maximum cold pressure as stated on the side of the tire (no air was added, it was found to be inflated properly at that time).
