6 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2010

2004 f350 superduty 6. 0 diesel 110025 miles on truck. The vehicle will some time sputter one to three times and the engine shuts off sometime starting, sometimes failing to start. While driving at times the engine will just shut off sometimes will restart sometimes it will not. I have had it in to a dealership shop to be fixed and they can not at this time find an answer. I feel this might be similar to a recall notice for other truck of this sort, but my vehicle VIN number does not follow under this according to the dealership. The NHTSA campaign number that has similar problem is 05v270000. There has not been any injuries or damage yet, but a vehicle that just shuts off when driving does not feel safe to me. I have only owed it since 6 Aug 10 and no problem of this sort has been documented as reported on this vehicle. This vehicle has acted up ever day except one day from the period of 6 aug10 to 12 Aug 10.

19 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2005

Consumer owns a 2004 f350 Ford diesel. He bought vehicle new with about 3 miles on it. This vehicle was a safety hazard. There has been several times that he has almost had an accident because the vehicle stalled. The last time was on August 16, 2005, he drove the vehicle about 110 miles, shut off vehicle, and let it sit in the shade for about 20 minutes. He then started the vehicle and drove about 3 tenths of a mile and shut vehicle off again, and let it sit in the shade for about and hour and thirty minutes. He then tried to start the vehicle and the vehicle would not start. Has to roll it off to start it when this happens. He has been in contact with the dealer and the manufacturer trying to get something done with the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted several times, and finally wanted him to take the vehicle back to the dealer where he purchased it. He took the vehicle back to dealer at Fords request, and vehicle was still at dealer because he did not want to pick it up because he did not feel that it could be fixed. The dealer started charging a deductible for each time it was repaired. On August 2, 2005 he took vehicle to dealer to have recall 05v27000 work done for the stalling and starting problem. Dealer assured him that this would fix the stalling and restart problem. Since the recall repairs were done the vehicle almost stalled 3 times, and on 2 occasions did not start. When the vehicle stalled it will not start back with starter, but for some reason it will roll off and start. The recall work did not fix problem, and he wanted to have something done so that he will no longer have to deal with this. He does want vehicle replaced by Ford.

20 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2005

2004 F-350 began having stalling problems at <2000 miles. After several attempts to fix the vehicle, we asked for a replacement. While waiting on action from Ford, we were in an accident on April 15,2005 after the truck failed while crossing an intersection.

21 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2004

When truck originally purchased bubble on tire, and dealer said they all come that way, tire went flat while parked about a month later, no holes, we were told tire was no good, had to be replaced. Truck kept stalling, loss of brakes and steering while navigating downhill, solenoid assembly replaced. 2 days later kept stalling. Dealer had truck 21 days to rebuild transmission, again solenoid assembly replaced after that replaced wiring harness. Since then, caliper broke and brakes went, turbo has been replaced. Vehicle has repeatedly stalled, noises from rear end with no dx. Now engine smoking, loss of power, rpms jump while idling. Truck has also repeatedly changed gears automatically, ie while at red light truck would jump to 3rd and then truck would stall.

22 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2004

Since new vehicle purchase, my Ford f350 diesel p/u experienced engine surging (200-250 rpm) while stopped with the automatic transmission in drive. The surge was significant enough to lurch the truck forward with the brake applied, such as at a stoplight. In several cases, I almost rear ended other vehicles before applying the brake hard enough to stop the truck from moving forward. I later learned to anticipate the surge using the brakes to minimize movement of the truck while stopped. My surging problem was confirmed on multiple occasions by technicians during test rides, but they could not duplicate the problem in the shop. In all cases, the first step was to reflash the ecm which masked the problem for several days while the truck relearned my driving habits and prevented a diagnosis. The engine had to be operated at full temperature in road conditions before the problem developed. In the shop, idling the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature was not sufficient to replicate the problem. Ford dealers made multiple attempts (10 or more) to diagnose the problem: replacing injector control pressure (icp) module, egr valve, and icp wiring connectors to no avail. The problem was finally diagnosed and corrected, out of warranty at approx. 44,500 miles, by replacing the engine wiring harness. I found a dealer who was willing to send a technician on a test ride with me and hook up an onboard computer laptop that identified the problem before reflashing the computer ecm. A number of surging complaints from other owners of Ford f350 are posted in online forums documenting similar circumstances and frustration. The incident date provided is the approximate date of the first occurrence. In my case, the surging occurred on a near daily basis, although intermittently, for 41000 miles of driving without any resolution from Ford. The engine wiring harness was replaced in Feb 2009 which corrected the surging in my truck. I paid a $100 deductible.

23 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2004

The caller says truck sometimes loses power. There is no warning that it is going to happen every time. The caller said that sometimes the engine light would come on, and then vehicle would lose power, and sometimes the light would not come on when he lost power. It happens at any speed and when sitting still. Truck has been to dealer 5 times and they could not find the cause of the problem. He recently had recall work done on the wiring harness. After 170 miles the truck continued to lose power. The caller had an appointment next Tuesday with dealer. Manufacturer said to keep bringing it in. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer eight times for the same problem. The last time it was there they replaced the turbo and reprogrammed the computer.

24 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2004

Consumer stated 2004 Ford f350 super duty was having electrical surge problems. Consumer was complaining to dealership that vehicle had surge problems for the past year and a half. The dealer said that they could not duplicate the problem. Dealer did updated the computer software and the truck ran some what better after that. The problem came back after a week, and went back to having computer surges. The truck was in the dealership for repairs on this issue five times. Same result, the truck would work for a little while, then back to the same surging problems which have been intermittent. The manufacturer has been contacted 5 to 6 times. Ford has not helped in resolving this issue. The lemon law has been looked into by the consumer. The lemon law was denied by the state. Consumer had asked Ford to investigate this problem. Ford said that they had no recalls or anything else on the truck. As of July 27, the truck stalled in the middle of the road. The truck had to sit for around 15 minutes before it would start owner could actually drive it. The truck ran yesterday for 3 miles and started stalling again, twice yesterday, 7-29-2005. The owner parked the truck and called a tow truck to come and get it. The owner received NHTSA recall 05v270000 on 7-27-2005 and NHTSA 05v270000 on the electrical system.
