8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2020

I have a 2008 Ford F-350 that I experienced a violent, shuddering, vibration at approximately 75 m. P. H. On interstate-75 yesterday, 09/19/2020, that almost caused me to crash. I looked online and there are many, many people who have and are experiencing the same, dangerous problem. I firmly believe that there should be a recall of the affected f-250 and F-350 vehicles and Ford should repairs these vehicles before anyone is injured or killed, if there hasn't been such a trajedy or tragedies already.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2018

Just got on the on ramp to get on the freeway when lost total control of the trucks powersteering. I was going maybe 35-45mph but had to slow down. Took to the Ford dealer the replaced the gearbox with a remanufactured gearbox and did the same thing on my second trip. Not sure what to do as this is a big safety concern.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2018

The 2008, as well as other years of the Ford F-350 are known to have a problem with a front-end shimmy or "death wobble". I have had several thousand dollars of work done to my F-350 in order to resolve the death wobble problem. The repairs work for a time and then, without warning, the death wobble returns. The fact that this can occur without warning, at high speeds, by driving over a very small bump in the road, makes this an extraordinarily dangerous problem. I don't think I can adequately describe the extreme nature of the death wobble. The front-end of the truck is bouncing left and right, the entire vehicle is twisting and rolling, the steering wheel is barely controllable, anything loose in the passenger compartment goes flying and keeping the vehicle in its lane is not always possible. Reducing speed as quickly as possible is the only recourse and this poses a danger particularly when on a heavily trafficked highway. This problem has been known about for a long time and Ford will not take any responsibility. Even after spending thousands of dollars on complete front-end rebuilds, and impeccable maintenance, the problem will suddenly reoccur. The design of this front-end is faulty and vehicle owners should not continue to be responsible for the costs of maintaining this faulty design and being exposed to great risk.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

The truck shakes a lot when going over bumps on the road , around 60 mph .

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2018

After hitting a bump in the road, the truck will shake violently and attempt to get out of control. The only way to correct this is bring the vehicle speed down to under 20 mph. This problem began occurring sporadically about one year ago and has gotten consistently worse. It is so sever that I have decided to park the vehicle out of a concern for safety. I had the vehicle inspected at the local Ford dealership approximately 3-4 months ago and they said everything was fine. Today, I received in the mail a notice marked "special field action 09l02" that says the problem is due to tire inflation. I have the proper size tires and I keep them properly inflated. After researching this, I have noticed that this problem dates back to 2005 and Ford has sent this same notice out many times. It is not a tire problem. I believe it is a known suspension problem and it is dangerous. This needs to be a mandatory recall and it needs to be paid for by Ford. I called their service line today and was told my vehicle wasn't part of any notice or recall. The paper I got today says "this notice applies to your vehicle" and goes on to give my VIN #. It is a big problem and now it has a big cover-up to go with it.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2016

My wife drove the truck to work. She said it was acting weird. It had slack going to the right. It was hard to turn to the left. When she got home it was worse. I opened the hood to check it for fluid. The fluid was good. I got inside to check out the steering. It had a lot of slack both directions. After a few turns the horn went off and I had to disconnect the battery in order to get it to go off. I then tried to turn the steering again. I could hear some grinding from the gear box. I disconnected the horn and reconnected the battery. I started the truck and attempted to turn the steering wheel again. This time fluid started to spray all over. I couldn't locate the source. I believe that there is a problem in the gear box. I don't know why the horn went off. It is not able to be driven. It is in my driveway parked. All I know is that if it had gone out when my wife was on the highway only god knows what would have happened. She takes our three children to day care. This is the only vehicle that is big enough to carry the entire family. The truck has only 91000 miles. I looked it up and there has been other complaints with this year and model. We don't know how much this is going to cost. My view is that it is a defect in the truck that was known and we were not notified of any posslble problems. It is Saturday night and we cant call Ford garage till Monday. We will call and ask them what we can do.

While continuing to drive, the truck would track left and then track right. I turned the steering wheel quickly and it straightened back up. The truck is at a private repair shop with the technician unable to find anything broken. He suggested that it may be the power steering box.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

On September 30, 2014, my wife was on her way to columbus, ohio in her 2008 Ford f350 super duty turbo diesel truck (VIN# 1ftww31r68ea85755) with 44,000 miles. She’s pulling her 2014 26’ lakota two horse trailer with living quarters with her show horse in the back. The unexpected happen while she was on MD-51n near cumberland, maryland heading across a bridge with heavy traffic at 1230pm. The check engine light came on with the following message “pull over safely”. Twenty seconds (20 seconds) later, the truck completely shut down. Wife was traveling at 70 miles an hour when the truck shut down, which turned the power steering off. This is what I call unsafe for anyone, especially when pulling a 26’ horse trailer with an extra 1000lbs in the back with a horse. She was not able to get completely off the road which almost caused a major accident due to the vehicle shutting down on her. After sitting on the side of the road waiting for aaa to come tow the vehicle for over 1 ½ hours, the vehicle started back up and she drove it to Ford cumberland, 10335 mt savage road NW, cumberland, MD with the check engine light still on with a police escort since the sheriff of cumberland sat with my wife on MD-51n waiting on aaa. This is after she was almost hit by a fedex eighteen wheeler due to not being able to get to a safe location for a truck and horse trailer due to the vehicle shutting down on her. The dealership found the problem: exhaust sensor. They were able to repair it and she was able to continue on with her trip. How can this sensor go out on a truck with only 44,000 miles on it? how can they design a truck to shut down automatically without any warning? the dealership told my wife they have seen these sensors go out at 20,000 miles before. Needs to be address and recall issued before someone dies on the highway due to this problem. Hold Ford accountable.

35 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

I was slowing down to make a left hand turn and I completely lost the ability to steer. I could not budge the wheel at all. My brakes still worked, but it didn't feel 100%. It has happened at least 10-15 times in the last year. When it happens, I can shift the truck into neutral and rev the engine and I'll get my steering back. Also, if I shift into neutral and turn the truck off and back on again, the steering will work. The only time it happens is when I'm slowing down from highway speeds, 55+ mph. It has happened when towing also. This is my father truck, but I use it for the family business.
