36 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2021

I experienced a “death wobble” several times . Ford freelanced my ball joint on right side. When the issue began again Ford replaced my stabilizer bar. It happened again so I replaced both steer tires. Occasionally I still get a wobbly when I hit a rough spot in the road way.

37 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2021

When my truck reaches 35 to 40 mph or hits a small bump it begins to shake violently in the steering wheel making it hard to control. I took it to a dealership who stated there was a recall part available, but after the repair the problem immediately began upon leaving their parking lot. My hill decent assist system now turns on and says there is a fault. The dealership was able to reproduce the problem, but stated I would need to pay for any further inspections and repairs out of pocket. I have not reported to my insurance as I didn't think it would be covered by them. The problem began this year in early July (2021) and has yet to be fixed.

38 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2021

2017 Ford f350 crew cab with front end wobble ("death wobble"). Began a short time ago and becoming easier to initiate the wobble after bumps, grooved pavement, or a transition from different surfaces at speeds above 55mph. There is much information on this problem but no recall notice from Ford. I know I am not the first to describe this complaint.

39 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2021

I've already done one on the linkage but I mean the steering damper. But now the steering is wanting to try to get real stiff on me sometimes right in the middle of turning and come to find out it's got a recall on something another in the steering which may cause it to lock up while I'm driving and I need to get this stuff fixed. I mean this is crazy. I've been noticing this for a while. I just didn't know that there was a recall on it until now. I've been trying to deal with these people for quite a while now to get some of this stuff resolved and they've done everything under the sun to blow me off. Please help. 984-303-2866 thank you!.

40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2021

Experiencing horrible death wobble. If I hit a road expansion joint, pot hole, etc. In a certain manner at typical highway speeds typically 55 to 70, the front end starts shaking horribly. The only way to regain control is by firmly pressing the breaks to immediately reduce the speed. This started when the vehicle had 26,000 miles on it and the dealer replaced the ball joints under warranty. This vehicle is only driven on the road. That fixed the problem until the vehicle reached around 50,000 miles now. It is dangerous either from the loss of control or having to slam on the breaks to regain control.

41 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2021

Extreme wobble in steering when over 50mph.

42 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2021

I am experiencing the death wobble. The steering wheel shakes back and forth violently as well as the truck. It is a very terrifying experience. It has happened multiple times lately.

43 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2021

Front-end death wobble. Doing highway speeds and hit a bump, the steering does a serious death wobble requiring braking to re-gain control.

44 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2021

I have had the so called dreaded death wobble experience 2 times. They replaced steering dampner with no success. Then replaced some drag link. ? however that was out of pocket.

45 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2021

Experienced death wobble today at 70 mph went away around 40 mph. Never had it before. Not sure if related but dealer replaced the wheels less than 300 miles ago. Vehicle is well maintained appx 18,000 miles.

46 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2021

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving onto a bridge at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle started to shake and vibrate violently causing the driver to nearly lose control of the steering wheel. During the failure, the steering wheel also vibrated and was difficult to control. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was previously serviced for the same failure and the steering sensor was replaced but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,500.

47 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2021

My truck reached 70 plus miles an hour and it shakes violently.

48 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2021

If a bump is hit around highway speeds there is uncontrollable shaking of the steering wheel and loss of control of the vehicle. Commonly called "death wobble" I am told. This renders the vehicle unusable as it is not safe. Ford says they believe a steering dampener replacement may fix the issue but have no parts in stock, no option for outside parts, and no eta for availability.

49 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2021

Death wobble on highway after hitting a bridge seam. Just started after 2 years in January 2021.

50 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2021

Two issues. First issue, cracked rim. Started losing tire pressure, leak between rim and stainless steel valve stem, had valve stem replaced with rubber valve. Lasted about a week and started losing air pressure again. Used green slime and solved the problem for about two weeks. Pressure loss was minimal, 70 psi down to 60 psi over a couple of days, would reinflate to 70 psi and would hold for a couple of days and I would just inflate back to 70 psi. Driving back from FL to nc on the 30th of Dec 2020, I experienced a loss of 20 psi in about an hours time. Pulled into rest area, reinflated tire and sprayed with windex and saw bubbles coming from a crack around the tire valve and going about 2 inches toward the inner edge of rim. Changed to spare, and made it home with no other issues. Rim is original factory aluminum rim. Dealership said truck is out of warranty. Purchased aftermarket wheels this week, did not want to replace with same model of rim. Second issue. Truck has approximately 62,000 miles. Noticed death wobble while I was having issues with above mentioned tire/rim issue and figured it was due to the imbalance of front tire that had green slime in it. Wobble happened again today after hitting pothole, was going about 50-55 mph, hit pot hole, truck started shaking, slowed down to about 30 and shaking stopped. Has happened 2 other times but those times I had the old tire/wheel set up. This latest occurrence happened with different tire/wheel setup. Have not taken to dealership because it is out of warranty and figured they would not do anything about it.

51 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

While travelling on the highway at highway speeds (55+ mph), the truck experiences the "death wobble". The steering wheel will begin to shake violently, compromising steering control. The shaking will typically only subside by reducing speed, of the vehicle.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2020

On December 24 ,2020 after entering interstate i25, and reaching about 50 to 65 miles per hour the truck when into a violent shack and was hard to control.

53 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

I experienced the Ford death wobble on a highway at approx. 65mph December 23rd 2020. I took the truck my local Ford dealership. My steering dampener had already been replaced, due to the recall, on June of 2020. The local dealership stated the dampener was in good condition but the track arm needed to be replaced at a cost to me of approx. $400. 00. The dealership also stated the the track arm is not covered under the extended warranty recall. This leaves me driving a vehicle that will experience the death wobble again and put me and my family in grave danger. The Ford dealership refused to cover this known problem under warranty. Ford needs to be held responsible for this design flaw and should replace all parts that are affected in this case to reduce the risk of harm or death to the vehicles occupants. A description of what the Ford dealership did, or didn't do, can be found on the Ford oasis report with the VIN number provided.

54 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2020

While driving at approximately 55 mph on the highway the front end and steering wheel started wobbling strongly, it did not subside until I slowed down to about 30 mph. This is not the first time this has happened, but frequency is increasing. I have oem suspension, wheels, tires, no modifications to the vehicle.

55 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2020

Massive steering wobble and shaking at highway speeds 60 to 70 mph. Usually on a rougher highway or a bump for joint expansion. Rattle continues till speed reduction to approximately 40 miles per hour.

56 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

On three separate occasions I have experienced a violent shaking in the steering wheel. Each event happened when traveling the highway at approximately 65 mph. The shaking is so severe its causes a loss of control and almost results in an auto accident. The shaking continues until the vehicle speed is reduced below 10 mph.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2020

I was driving during moderate rain and wet road conditions. My truck hit a seam in road and the entire front end started to shake and bounce. I had to get on the brake fast and this was early morning lots of seattle traffic at highway speeds in excess of 60mph. The truck actually started a shimmy that put me in the other lane luckily there was no traffic on my left side. It went away when I was on the brake and had slowed way down under 35 mph. When I got back on accelerator, I again returned to highway speed only to have it return worse after hitting bumps in the road. This time there were more vehicles around and I had to hit brake extremely hard so as not to bounce everywhere. The truck got noticeably light on front end bouncing all over the place and veered off road to the right. This could have resulted in an accident twice in less than 10 minutes. Truck was parked and taking to Ford dealership after researching online and finding out this is a known issue. Truck only has 17510 miles on it has been in for all routine maintenance and tire rotation and balances. In fact tires were just rotated at 17000 miles.

58 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

At highway speed, - occasionally this issue occurs at about 75 mph when going over a rough area or "concrete to asphalt" seam in the roadway, the truck will go into a very violent, almost uncontrollable wobble of the steering wheel and front end. Let off on the foot pedal to begin slowing to around 60 mph for the wobble to stop. Then highway speeds can be achieved only to expect the same thing to occur at any random time when going over a rough area in the road. Really scary situation when this occurs!!!.

59 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2020

Less than 20k miles, the steering wheel violently shakes at times when hitting a bump while in a turn or one side hits the bump and not the other. The pickup becomes incontrollable. You have to aggressively brake to regain control which is likely to cause and accident. This happens at highway speeds 45 to 70 mph.

60 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2020

While driving at freeway speeds, we hit a small bump in the road. The steering was shaking uncontrollably and almost caused us to hit the car in the lane next to us. We had to slow down significantly to stop the shaking. This has happened twice in the last week and the second time we weren't aware we hit a bump, the vehicle just started shaking uncontrollably. Our truck only has about 20,000 miles on it. We have a service appointment to have this looked at next week.

61 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2020

4 times in the last 3 weeks our truck experienced the "death wobble". In every instance we were travelling at about 65-70 mph and crossing bridges. Our truck began to shake violently and we lost control, even crossing into the oncoming lane once. After slowing down and pulling to the shoulder the violent shaking stopped. One of the times, my daughter was driving in snow and ice on the expressway and crossed lanes before she could get the truck under control. Now I'm afraid to let my wife or daughter drive the truck. .

62 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

I bought this 2017 f350 used with approx. 67000 miles on it. It has a 3000 mi 0r 90 day warranty. When this event occurred I had owned this vehicle 3 weeks. On 9-25-20 my wife and I went to pick up a desk at a residence 20 miles from our house. After leaving the residence I accelerated to highway speed 50-60 mph on a paved two-lane highway. We hit a rough patch, rippled section of pavement. The steering wheel started shuttering back and forth in my hands and the truck starting steering into the oncoming lane. I had no control over the vehicle, I gripped it as hard as I could with no result to return the truck back to the lane we were in. I also was pushing the brake pedal trying to slow the vehicle at the same time, but was having a difficult time slowing down. After , approximately 200-300 yards the truck slowed and the steering returned, so I could gain control and returned to my lane of traffic.

63 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

Vehicle had severe death wobble at highway speeds over 65mph. Dealer adjusted castor and improved the severity. Still have unacceptable level of steering wheel oscillation and vibration. Many visits to dealers in two states with no correction or improvement. Uncomfortable and unsafe to tow 5th wheel.

64 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2020

While traveling on a 4 lane highway at approximately 50 mph in traffic, I hit a bump in the roadway and the truck started to shake violently. I had to brake and slow down to approximately 20 mph for the shaking to stop. I feel that this is a front suspension/steering issue.

65 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

When driving a speeds greater than 50 mph I have found that the internet has termed "death wobble" in my truck. When this first occurred I took the truck in and they made some tweaks under warranty and said nothing was wrong. Then it happened again and took it back to the Ford dealership. They stated they could not find anything wrong and that I just needed new tires. They deliberately lied to me putting me and my employees at risk. Ford knows this is occurring and doesn't care. You can completely lose control of the vehicle at high rates of speed out of the blue.

66 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2020

2017 Ford F-350, truck can hit any bump in the road and the steering wheel goes crazy shaking extremely violently. This happens at speeds from about 45mph and faster. The only way to stop the shaking is to immediately pull over on the side of the road and slow down to about 25-30mph. It's very hard to control the vehicle while it's shaking, as you do not have full control of the steering. A big problem is the fact that you can't tell which bumps will cause the violent shaking. It could be a large unavoidable pothole, or it could be a small concrete joint in an otherwise very smooth flat road. I have also experienced this when there were no bumps in the road. It is very disheartening to know that Ford motor company is selling vehicles for upwards of $80,000 that can't be safely driven any faster than 45-50mph, and are putting peoples lives in danger on a daily basis.

67 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2020

I was on the highway going aprox. 65mph when out of nowhere the truck started shaking and wobbling, I lost control of steering untill I came to a stop. I got to the side of the road and got out thinking I had a tire blowout, but there was nothing wrong with my tires. The truck has been fine since but it was very scary for this to happen.

68 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2020

At speeds over 60mph, the truck goes into a "death wobble" when a large bump, pothole or bridge expansion joint is encountered. The steering wheel shimmies rapidly from side to side, and the truck feels as if it is losing control. The truck must be decelerated rapidly to stop the shimmy. This has happened at least a dozen times, making the truck dangerous to drive. The truck has less than 30,000 miles. .

69 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

When driving at highway speeds and you go over a crack or bump in the road the steering wheel and truck will shake violently to the point that you also most lose control of the vehicle. You must slow down to speeds below 30 mph on the highway to regain control of the truck.

70 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2020

I bought this 2017 F-350 Ford and as I was driving the steering wheel and the truck started to shake violently. I was told buy a few Ford customers that they call this the death wobble. I just bought this truck to haul heavy items. Why would Ford resell this truck knowing it has this problem? I am a 74 year old veteran and when this happens its very hard to control the steering wheel. Why is there not a recall on this truck? and why has NHTSA not done anything about this? now I am afraid to drive this truck with my family anywhere. Can a lawsuit be filed? is Ford doing anything to fix this problem?.
