1 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2021

On two occasions the truck has gotten the shakes and it's hard to control on the road. Steering wheel vibrates bad too. Was going about 50 mph each time. Once down the highway in a construction area and the other time down a county road. I believe it has a death wobble.

2 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2021

Driving 55 mph, the truck hit a small bump in the paved road and lost all control of steering and steering wheel was shaking. Once truck came to a near stop I was able to take over steering and the wheel stopped shaking.

3 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

I was driving my newly purchased 2019 for f350 super duty which has 22,000 miles, when I hit a small bump on the highway. I was driving at a speed of 55 mph and going straight with not the slightest of turn and within the flow of heavy traffic, when my front tires and steering wheel began to vibrate uncontrollably as I came over the small bump. I was unable to control the heavy truck and was forced to slam on the brakes to keep from swerving into the median or into another car beside me. The concrete truck behind me had to slam on it's brakes as well to prevent from hitting me. I have driven heavy trucks for 25 years and have never felt so out of control. Had my son or daughter been driving the truck there is no doubt they would have wrecked and most definitely hurt the driver in the kia next to me. I have owned 5 Ford trucks and have never had this death wobble occur in those trucks. When I got to my office I looked it up on the internet and saw this is a common problem with Ford f250 and 350's between 2009 and 2019. I called the Ford dealership and they said this was not covered under my Ford factory warranty but that they get 3-4 calls per week about it. I have not modified anything on the vehicle and it remains a stock vehicle. Ford should not allow these trucks to remain on the road. They are a death trap and will cause fatalities if something isn't done about this defect in the steering stabilizer and track bar. I will be selling this vehicle as the repair is over $2,500. Please do something about this. As the enforcer of safety on the roads it is your duty to make Ford recall all 250 and 350's that have these inadequate steering stabilizers and track bars. People will be hurt and killed. The blood will be on your hands of the ntsa and Ford if something isn't done.

4 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2020

My vehicle had approx. 22000 miles on it when it started to develop what is being called the death wobble. This is where the steering wheel shakes terribly when you encounter any bumps on the road. It can shake so violently that it is difficult to control the vehicle. At approx. 27600 miles I took it to power Ford in albuquerque, nm for repair. They were aware of the issue and determined that the steering dampener had failed. There is lots of information on this issue on the web. This design issue exists in all 2006 to 2019 Ford f-250s and F-350s. This issue makes the vehicle unsafe to drive and decreases the mean time between failure of steering components causing owners to incur the expense of replacing failed components at unreasonably short intervals or installing after-market solutions. While Ford may see it as caused by normal wear and tear, the short component lifespan and vehicle control issue indicates a serious design defect which the NHTSA should address.

5 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2020

When driving the vehicle at highway speed any bumps in the road cause the steering wheel to shake and the front wheels to hop. Feels like the truck is out of control until I slow down. Truck is brand new and this happened several times driving it home from virginia to connecticut.

6 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

While driving about 60-65 mph the steering wheel started shaking violently as the whole front end felt like it was shaking apart. I had to maneuver to the shoulder and stop before it stopped. Very difficult to keep the vehicle under control.

7 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2020

While driving my Ford f350 approximately 50mph on a state highway, I hit a slight depression in the roadway after crossing a bridge. The vehicle's front end and steering wheel began shaking violently . I had to come to almost a complete stop to make the shaking stop. I believe this to be the problem described as the Ford death wobble. The vehicle had 27800 miles at the time of the incident. I have scheduled an appointment with the dealer for an inspection and repair. I stopped to examine the front of my vehicle, but there was no apparent reason for the incident.

8 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2020

When traveling @ normal highway speeds if I cross uneven pavement or rough roads the steering wheel shakes violently side to side. When road smooths and along with braking to reduce speed the problem goes away. Have taken into dealership and steering dampener was replaced but problem is starting back. 25,500+/-miles.

9 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2020

I was driving home late one night from work, running about 55-60 and the steering wheel and truck started violently shaking and got worse as I tried to apply brakes. It caused me to run off the side of the road into a farm field(luckily no damage)! so I shut the truck off and checked everything, I thought a wheel was falling off or something but everything was good, so I slowly drove home and would start to feel the steering wheel shake when I would apply brakes but nothing like before.

10 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2020

When I hit bumps in the road I get a violent steering wheel shake, known as death wobble. Happens at slow speeds on the windy road I live on, probably going roughly 25-35 mph usually when I hit a bump while turning. I have heard this is a common problem in these vehicles . It seems to be getting worse as time goes on. The vehicle only hads 8500 miles on it and was purchased new from dealer.

I hit a small pot hole in the road at approximately 50mph and the truck and steering wheel started shaking violently. I lost control of the vehicle until I got it slowed to 20mph.

12 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2020

Truck's steering wheel began to shake violently at approx 65 mph pulling a camper. Truck was uncontrollable! truck continued to death wobble multiple times. This appears to be a common issue with Ford trucks. If you are not strong enough to hold the steering wheel you would wreck!.

13 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2020

Brand new truck with 3000 miles on it and the front end is very loose feeling. Lots of steering wheel shaking ( side to side movement) when hitting bumps. Dealer replaced the steering damper and it is slightly better for now. I am worried there is a bigger problem that is creating unwanted wear and tear on the critical steering linkage and it will need to be repaired often to keep it safe. Happens mostly at speeds over 40 miles per hour and worse when hitting bumps on curves like tight interstate on ramps.

14 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2020

On 1/13/20 while I was driving on the highway the steering wheel began to shake violently causing me to lose control. By the time I got slow down enough to sop I was in the left lane (incoming traffic). Luckily there was no traffic or I wouldn't be able to make this complaint as I would of been hit head on and had no control of the vehicle. My dealer said he had another truck with the same issue and it would take 2 months to get a part to maybe fix it. $65,000 and I have a truck I'm scared to drive. It's a 2019 with 7,000 miles on it. I have a pregnant wife and 3 children. The issues with these trucks are death traps. This truck is basically a one ton wrecking ball that I can lose control of at any minute. It's my only transportation. Something needs to be done about these before someone is killed. My wife won't get in it and won't allow the kids in the truck. This is completely unacceptable. Since it happened I researched possible causes and have learned this is a well documented issue in these vehicles. At this point I'm afraid to I'm either going to die or kill someone else in this vehicle. If I could simply return it I would tomorrow.

15 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

Was driving with a load of ~19,000 pounds (fifth wheel) at ~55 mph, when the steering wheel began shaking uncontrollably until I came to a stop. The following day was driving without a load at ~60 mph, hit a rough spot in the road, and the steering wheel bagan shaking uncontrollably until I came to a stop. The truck has done this more than 5 times but less than 10 during the last 30 days. This issue began when my truck had ~24000 miles on it. The vehicle has done this while driving on state highways and local roads, but all paved. The dealership said it was a known issue. There is a steering dampener the dealership would like to try. I am unable to use the vehicle for its intended purpose, according to the dealership.

16 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2019

Traveling at 65 mph, steering wheel begin to shake violently. Unable to control the steering of the vehicle, when brakes were applied, no braking action took place, pedal just went to the floor as if in an anti-lock situation. After speed was reduced below 25 mph, the shaking stopped and was able to return back to normal driving. This happened 3- consecutive times, each time with the same ending. Truck is a 2019 F-350 with only 22k miles. Has been in the shop now for 42 days with no answer from Ford about what caused or how to repair the issue.

17 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2019

Traveling at approximately 50-55 mph on a curved 2 lane highway I hit a small bump in the road. This caused the front of the vehicle and steering wheel to shake wildly and almost caused a collision with the vehicles behind me. I was only able to get it to stop shaking by coming to an almost complete stop in the middle of a narrow 2 lane mountain highway. As I was coming to a stop I had very little control over the vehicle and actually crossed the center line and went several feet into the oncoming lane.

18 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2019

When driving on the interstate at 75 mph I hit a small bump in the road while changing lanes. The entire truck began shaking violently. The steering wheel was shaking so violently that I had a difficult time controlling the vehicle while I returned to the right lane and reduced speed. The shaking stopped when the speed was reduced to 30 mph. Twenty minutes later while traveling on the interstate I hit an expansion joint at 65 mph and the violent shaking returned. I reduced speed and the shaking stopped at 30 mph.

19 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

My new f350 with 6k miles on it starts to shake violently for no reason at all on speeds over 60 mph and the only way to correct the problem is to slow down to almost a stop. The steering wheel was shaking violently and so was the front of the truck.

20 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

July-2019 - when driving at highway speeds the steering wheel began shaking violently (death wobble) after crossing a bridge expansion joint causing me to lose control of the vehicle. I was able to slow down gradually and the shaking stopped around 40 mph. Had it serviced at a local Ford dealership and it was fixed under TSB 18-2268 where they replaced the steering wheel dampener. Sep-2019 - death wobble occurred again following July repair on highway while towing a 5th wheel trailer. Immediately scheduled service at a different local Ford dealership and was told there was a new TSB that superceeds the prior one. They replaced the steering wheel dampener again but was disappointed to hear that it was still the same oem part number used for the dampener. Oct-2019 - death wobble occured at 60 mph on the highway. Happened 3 times in a row this time causing me to veer into another lane. Immediately schedule service appointment at a 3rd Ford dealership. Repair currently in progress at the time I'm writing this so no outcome yet. Began a formal inquiry with Ford on potential buy-back or replacement.

23 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

I was driving at highway speed 65 mph down the lhighway mwith my son in the truck with me. My truck bed was empty. I ran over several small pot holes or bumps in the road and my truck steering wheel started shaking and got progressively worse and I advanced down the interstate. I held on to the wheel as hard as I could and tried to keep control of the truck and not lose complete control. The violent shaking only got worse until I was able to get the vehicle down to below 20 miles an hour. Several other vehicles were honking and pointing at the front end of my truck. This death wobble which I am hearing being reffered to is starting to happen with more frequency. I am terrified of letting any of my familiy drive my new $85,000 Ford f 350 king ranch. I am taking it to a Ford service this week to get fixedl. The more I research the "death wobble" the more I am finding out that there are thousands of new Ford truck owners just like me that are experiencing this very dangerous and horrifying problem. It is hard to believe that Ford has not recalled this truck yet to fix this very dangerous situation. It woud not be suprised to find out that this neglect by Ford hasn't resulted in death already. This death wobble has occurred at highway speeds and while driving in residential areas going 45 mph.
