Ford F-350 owners have reported 13 problems related to carrier/rack (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Experienced heavy osculation at 25k miles. At 26k miles the truck will go into a "death wobble" at speeds over 60 mph. Any time I hit a bump in the road at speeds about 60 mph the truck violently shakes and it's very difficult to maintain control of the vehicle. This is a huge safety concern. Took the truck in to get it repaired under the warranty. The dealership was very familiar with the death wobble. The track bar was on backorder; however, I found one available at another dealership. I drove there, picked it up and took it to there dealership who fixed the truck the first. Got the truck back several days later. At 31/32k miles, it started to do the osculation/vibration and steering wheel shake when I hit any bump on the road/rough patch at speeds over 60 mph. Took the truck back to the shop at 33k miles after it did the death wobble and I almost lost control of the truck. The dealership fixed it a second time. The same day I picked it up on the second attempt to fix it, I was driving home and it did the death wobble again. It was like a Mini-death wobble with a very heavy osculation, shaking and vibration when I hit a rough patch at 60 mph or greater. The truck is now back in the shop and waiting for the third repair. The death wobble occurs at speeds usually over 60 mph on the freeway or any country roads. It has happened a few times at about 55 mph. Driving in town it doesn't do it at lower speeds (40-45) unless you hit a very big bump/pot hole/rough patch.

While driving on the highway at high speed I noticed my car pulling to one side and then my low tire pressure come on . When I got to a safe location I looked at my front passenger tire and saw it was low. I put air in it, after returning to my car it was low again. I put air in it again, drove to the shop to get my tire looked at and they said there is a crack in the middle of the rim. They said they have not seen this before on thei type of truck (known for hauling heavy loads), and they had to order a brand new rim. Of course my truck is outside of the warrenty, that's when things tend to go bad. Im very concerned about this being a manafactor defect due to where the crack is located. I'm also very concerned for the safety of me and others due to the area where we live, how we use high speed highways to get around, what we actually use the truck for, and others. Although nobody was hurt, it could have been a catastrophe. Please help me understand how something like this could occur on this type of heavy duty truck. I'm making a report now because soo many people told me to due to safety protocols. Thabk you.

Death wobble. This has been going on for several years and is becoming increasingly dangerous. We have replaced tires, shocks, steering dampener and track bar. If we hit a bump in the road at highway speeds while in a curve the death wobble is so severe it is lucky that I have not lost control. But the only way to stop it is to stop the truck - on the highway in traffic. I have nearly been killed with people barely able to avoid hitting me. It seems to be a known issue that is, as yet, unacknowledged. Commonly attributed to the 'faulty parts' that do not fix the issue for more than a very short time. Take it to the dealer and they pretend to have never heard of it before as thousands of others have stated in complaints across the internet. It has become even more severe and will happen even when driving at highway speed without the steering in a curve. The issue first began at about 90,000 miles. Typically at 60-65 miles per hour. Today it was at 60 mph, 30-40 mph repeatedly.

I was driving on a two lane back road around 45 to 50 mph, and my truck started violently shaking and I lost all control of steering. I went into the oncoming lane, luckily no one was coming, and had to hit my brakes hard to get the shaking to stop. It has also happened while driving at speeds of 35-40 on a city street and 60 mph on a highway. This is known as death wobble. The wobble was so bad that it loosened the track bar and the bolt holding the power steering hard line. I lost all power steering fluid within seconds. I have researched it, tried replacing several parts, like tie-rods, and it has lessened a little bit, but if I hit a bumpy road or even just a patch of new pavement, it starts shaking. I have read a lot of other Ford owners are experiencing this same issue with their trucks.

Cable that attaches spare tire to vehicle continues to break. Dealer has replaced spare tire carrier several times. Seat belt doesn't retract properly.
The spare tire broke loose from under the truck while traveling down the highway, being that we were pulling a 24'enclosed race car trailer at the time the spare tire broke off. When hit by the trailer it threw the trailer in the air braking the axels on impact. Luckily no one was in the oncomming lane at the time or following to close behind. Damage was cause heavily to the trailer, the truck seems to be ok. I am glad we weren't traveling down a major highway at the time of the incident.
When driving on interstate at 55 mph spare tire cable broke from underneath of vehicle, causing the tire to drop down onto highway which caused a near accident. Consumer has contacted dealer. Please provide any further details.
