Crash alert sensor and adaptive cruise control keep going out. Now the crash sensor which pre-loads the brakes is going off when I am parked. It seems like if I shut the truck down and restart it is back working, but if this system is pre-loading my brakes for a full brake application when I dont need it, I might get rear-ended for a slamming brake application when not needed. I have read about others having this issue and parts are back ordered. I am going back to the dealership again to see if they can fix this issue.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350 sd. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle veered to the left drastically while the cruise control was activated. The contact lost control of the vehicle, crashed into some concrete, and then sped across the road in the opposite direction of two lane traffic on a four lane highway. The contact sustained minor bruising, but did not receive medical treatment. A police officer was present, but a police report was not filed. The dealer (sam wampler's freedom Ford, 720 s george nigh expy, mcalester, ok 74501, (918) 423-2800) was notified of the failure and indicated that there was no recall campaign. The manufacturer had several tsbs regarding the electrical system, engine and engine cooling, and power train. The contact was uncertain if the information was related to the failure. The vehicle was towed to a yard and was not yet inspected by the manufacturer to determine the cause of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,200.

Periodically, when setting the cruise control at different speeds, it won't immediately engage, which means that there is a loss of speed of around 5 mph. Then it will engage, kick down a gear, and accelerate super quick. Scary if you are not prepared.

Truck was parked for 2 days since last driven in my driveway 5ft from house. Went to work at night in my other vehicle, came home and started to get my kids ready for school. No visible signs as I passed it on my way into my residents. About an hour later next thing I know a passing off duty fire fighter is banging on my front door, as I go to meet him I see my truck engulfed in flames. Truck is a total loss with fire protruding from hood and fenders reaching into the cab. Fire department finally put flames out after minor damage to other near bye vehicles. Looks as fire started under hood near master cylinder. Truck was repaired by Ford for recall in 06 due to cruise control switch. It appears the same problem persists in new switches or repair was not done properly. Just contacted Ford today about this issue as it just happened Feb,2 2016. In the process of obtaining vehicle service records as I have a friend who works for Ford. Clearly the fire originated from the same area as earlier recalls. 2001 Ford F-350 vehicle speed control NHTSA campaign #06v286000. I have pictures and video of the incident but cannot upload due to file format.

Since purchasing our vehicle new we have had several incidents of sudden acceleration. Our first complaint was filed within the 1st month (odi id number : 10330335). Within 16000 miles we had 3 incidents. All of these incidents were at highway speed with the cruise control off. Each time we were able to place the gear shift into neutral or stomp on the accelerator pedal until it stopped accelerating. Each time the vehicle was taken to the Ford dealership, no explanation could be found however on the incident at ~16000 miles the dealership stated they had reprogrammed the computer. We had driven the truck without incident since that time until December 24, 2012 at approximately 0800 hours. My wife was driving westbound on I-40 at approximately 65 mph when the vehicle accelerated on its own. Her first reaction was to try to put the vehicle in neutral, however she was unable to move the shift lever. The vehicle accelerated to maximum speed quickly as she attempted to apply the brakes. Her ordeal lasted for several minutes and she nearly lost control several times as this section of highway travels through a canyon and has significant curves. She was eventually able to place the vehicle in neutral and coast off the highway. By this point the brakes were ineffective from her trying to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to rich Ford. They have had the vehicle from Dec. 24 until today. Once again they can find nothing wrong with the vehicle. The advice given by the service manager was "when it happens again, turn off the key. Don't touch the accelerator at all, and have it towed here. " not "if", "when". My wife's response was: "if I live through the next time, I'll do that. ".

Submission from constituent re issues with Ford F-350 truck (full document not imaged). The dealer had the consumers vehicle for 12 days. The vehicle was returned to him damaged. When he attempted to start the truck, there was metallic engine rattle. He shut the truck off and inspected the engine, but found no problem. As the consumer drove home, the truck stalled several times, the transmission would not shift properly and the steering wheel started to shake violently at 30 mph. The consumer also stated the head lights did not provide adequate lighting of the road, the seat belts did not retract properly; they would tightened as he was driving, which prevented him from moving, there cruise control did not engage properly, it was difficult to maneuver the steering wheel, the fuel gauge was not reading accurately, there were noises coming from the drive train, the emergency brake was inoperative, the vehicle severely pulled to the right, the engine lacked torque and power, the suspension was not adequate for the vehicle, every time he hit a pot hole or bump in the road, he would loose steering ability and the tires would start bouncing. It would take too long for the vehicle to take off, when the accelerator was applied, there was an instant shudder from the vehicle, when he applied the accelerator pedal.
Yesterday may 12, 2010 my wife experienced a sudden acceleration in our 1 month old Ford f350 cabela edition. From a highway speed of 65 mph the truck, completely on its own, accelerated to over 95 mph. The cruise control was not on and she was not touching any pedals. When she applied the brakes she left some impressive tire marks on the highway but with 650 foot pounds of torque at the rear wheels the truck was not stopping. She put the truck in neutral and the tachometer pegged all the way. She did manage to pull the truck to the side of the road and turn it off. She tried to re-start the vehicle and again without any input from the accelerator the tachometer pegged. She immediately turned the truck off and waited several minutes before restarting. This time the truck idled normally. She took it to richardson Ford in albuquerque where we purchased the truck. The service manager told me he knew something really bad had happened because she was crying and visibly shaken. They performed several tests and the codes that came up were excessive speed and something about the exhaust cleaning system stuck in mid cycle. They have now had the truck 2 days and cannot find the cause of the sudden acceleration. I was told by the service representative that according to Fords own service database there have been other documented instances of rapid unexplained acceleration on f250 and above trucks. Ive done some research and have found this is not a new problem on Ford vehicles. We carry our children and grandchildren in this vehicle. I now have a $60,000 vehicle that my wife is afraid to drive. You tell me, what do I do? its obvious to me that it is a computer or programming problem. I would like to see the vehicles computer or the whole vehicle replaced. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
200 Ford F-350 burned to ground after being parked in driveway for five hrs. Suspect cruise control switch. Fire marshall said obvious short in wiring. Did not have comprehensive coverage, business auto liability will not cover any of over $8,000 loss of tools, equipment and supplies because the fire was not caused by my negligence. Loss of truck, tools and supplies estimate over $20,000. Why is Ford not responsible?? have read of many other similar circumstances.

Our 2002 F-350 cruise control engaged itself and went to full throttle while we were stopped. A four car fender bender was the result. Had this happened at higher speed, it could have been considerably more serious. The cruise control took over control of the vehicle!!.
1. Driving
2. Cruise control does not disengage when brake is applied. In fact, when brake is applied, the truck tries to compensate for reduced speed by downshifting and accelerating. I have had it happen twice where it nearly caused me to hit the vehicle in front of me. The dealership verified the problem but could not fix it. They sent me away with the problem still occurring and it is so dangerous that I do not use cruise control at all. 3. Dealership attempted to address the problem but couldn't fix it. They verified the problem and documented it in my file with them.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford f350 super duty. While driving at any speed, the vehicle speed control will activate on its own. The only way to deactivate the cruise control is to stand on the brake pedal and press the off switch. The failure occurred intermittently, which almost caused a crash. The contact's wife has been able to shut off the cruise control before crashing into anyone. The dealer attempted to repair the failure, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle has been to the dealer on approximately six occasions, but there is no remedy. The failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 70,000.
I have received a recall notice in sept. 07 to fix and or replace my " I n 5 months ) and have been told they still do not have the parts to repair this problem. As I drive this vehiclle all the time I can either do without cruise control or take a chance on a fire. Justwonderingif you can help??.

In September 2007 I received recall 05s28 from Ford motor company concerning my 2000 350 super duty truck. On October 11, 2007, Ford dealer bluebonnet motors disconnected the cruise control switch and advised me the replacement part would be available in approximately 30 days. It has been 204 days and the replacement part is not available. This is a motor home and is used for long trips. It is very tiring and results in unsafe conditions to drive without cruise control.
When pulling a travel trailer with my 2006 f350 sd Ford on cruise control at hwy speeds (70 mph) on a hill the truck will lose speed to 65-66 mph the torque converter unlocks and the vehicle will accelerate to 74-76 mph still on the hill. Cresting the hill it will return to 70 mph. Ford says this operation meets design specs. And will do nothing to fix my truck. I get strange looks from drivers trying to pass and my vehicle accelerates 4-6 mph over the speed limit. 100 failures is a guess.
The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 05v388000 concerning the vehicle speed control deactivation switch. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to VIN and model. The vehicle has not been repaired.

Cruise control recall list does not include the Ford f350 truck. My cruise control quit working during a routine service at 60,000 miles. Service personnel at bobby jones Ford, augusta, georgia, had apparently disconnected the cruise control because of a fluid leak from the switch. After complaining, this vehicle had other switch failures (turn signal and ignition switches) these switches were replaced at my expense, also the cruise control switch was also replaced at this time (at my expense of $20. 88 part and $40. 00 labor). This vehicle should have been included in the recall of the other Ford vehicles with this cruise control problem, resulting in the possibility of the vehicle catching on fire.
The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 05v388000 concerning the vehicle speed control deactivation switch. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to VIN and the model type. The contact repaired the vehicle at her own expense.
The contact owns a 1999 f350. Had the dealer check the speed control deactivation switch. Could not tell the part number, but it was the same one being used on the Ford/bronco that was being recalled under NHTSA campaign 05v388000. It was replaced. The contact has the old part. Would like the f350 model be added to the recall because of the part number on the speed control deactivation switch that the contact found on truck.
The engine caught fire on the driver's side of the engine compartment. The consumer's carport (port-a couche) caught on fire along with their home. The house was a total loss. The vehicle had not been started or driven for 8 days prior to the fire. The consumer's 1997 Ford f350 was not included in the recall although it had the same cruise control switch as the recalled vehicle's.

The consumer complained about sudden acceleration. While driving 35 mph the vehicle lunged forward with an increase in speed. The vehicle has been back to the dealers on 4 separate occasions. However, the problem recurred. The vehicle accelerates and lunges forward several times then dies. This is an intermittent problem. When the cruise control is set, the same thing occurs but only backwards when in reverse. The vehicle has been to the dealer six times and returned to the consumer un-fixed each time.

Cruise control failed to engage while driving at 65 mph. Consumer inspected the vehicle and noticed that the wiring connected to the speed control deactivation switch was burnt. Consumer went to the dealer and purchased a switch and installed it himself. Consumer expressed concern that this could cause the cruise control to fail disengaging instead of engaging.
While the vehicle was parked a fire started under the hood. The vehicle was totaled. The manufacturer was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
While the consumer was parking the vehicle, it caught on fire. Upon inspection, it was determined that the cruise control was the cause.
Cruise control failed to work when trying to set the speed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Recall campaign for Ford cruise control deactivation. No apparent reason truck caught fire and was declared a total loss. The consumer believed the fire was related to the recall. Recall#05v017000.
When engaging cruise control vehicle starts to shake uncontrollably.
Why has Ford recalled only later model trucks for the criuse control fire issue. It is not a problem limited to those years. I experienced the exact same problem with my 1997 F-350.
The contact owns a 1996 Ford F-350. While parked, the vehicle burst into flames. The fire department arrived and stated that the fire originated in the engine compartment. A police report was filed. In January of 2006, after the fire occurred, the contact received her first recall notice for the vehicle speed control. The recall number was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 140,000.
While driving 55 mph with speed control set and without any indication vehicle engine stalled. Dealership serviced vehicle, and technician could not duplicate the problem.
My 2001 Ford F-350 was destroyed in a fire. The unit spontaneously combusted at 1 am after being parked for over 12 hours. The unit was a total loss. The vehicle was parked at an employees home, which was also damaged. When I originally complained to Ford about the speed control recall, they claimed that it did not include my vehicle. I recently discovered that this vehicle has been recalled for this problem. The insurance settlement was woefully inadequate, causing a 30k000 out of pocket expense to replace the truck. No compensation was offered from Ford.
In 2003, my 1997 Ford F-350 crew cab lost the cruise control and on several occasions would not shift out of park. On 05 Sep 2003 my truck, with the engine cold, caught fire while parked in my driveway, catching my house on fire. This resulted in a claims to both my homeowners and my vehicle insurance. My vehicle was a total loss in the fire. The VIN number for my truck was: 1ftjw36g8vea73815.
