Submission from constituent re issues with Ford F-350 truck (full document not imaged). The dealer had the consumers vehicle for 12 days. The vehicle was returned to him damaged. When he attempted to start the truck, there was metallic engine rattle. He shut the truck off and inspected the engine, but found no problem. As the consumer drove home, the truck stalled several times, the transmission would not shift properly and the steering wheel started to shake violently at 30 mph. The consumer also stated the head lights did not provide adequate lighting of the road, the seat belts did not retract properly; they would tightened as he was driving, which prevented him from moving, there cruise control did not engage properly, it was difficult to maneuver the steering wheel, the fuel gauge was not reading accurately, there were noises coming from the drive train, the emergency brake was inoperative, the vehicle severely pulled to the right, the engine lacked torque and power, the suspension was not adequate for the vehicle, every time he hit a pot hole or bump in the road, he would loose steering ability and the tires would start bouncing. It would take too long for the vehicle to take off, when the accelerator was applied, there was an instant shudder from the vehicle, when he applied the accelerator pedal.

Occuring since vehicle purchased new on July 9, 2005 with six year extended warranty. The failure is that the parking brake does not work properly despite repeated attempts by two dealers to as they say "adjust" it. The brake works and actuates 1-2 times out of 10 and does not work in reverse ever. Dealer told me it is not designed to work in reverse at all and will not hold in reverse. The dealers see no defect and have never replaced any parts. The brake lining is in excellent condition. Due to this situation I suspect it is simply a manufacturer defect or design flaw with serious safety implications if the transmission park pin failed.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-350. While driving approximately 35 mph, the rear driver side tire suddenly locked which caused the vehicles rear end to slide; however, the contact was able to control the vehicle and avoid a crash. The dealer stated that the parking brake assembly needed to be replaced. The contact previously noticed that the parking brake intermittently failed to function properly. The current and failure mileages were 59,000.
Have a 2003 F-350 super duty Ford truck. Noise in rear brakes upon investigation found that the emergancy brake backing plate that the emergancy brake shoes attach to was rusted away and the emergancy brake shoes and their hard ware fell apart creating a very dangerous situation since super duty trucks carry and tow heavy loads and could cause serious acciddent.

Rear brake drum failure - backer plate of my Ford f350 has corroded to the extent that the rear brake shoe retainer pins fell inwards and the back brake shoe twisted around grinding in the rear drum. Upon hearing a noise slowed and the rear wheel locked and spun the truck sideways on the road. This is a long wheel base,k crewcab pickup with an 8ft box. The disc rotor cover has also rusted through leaving a hole allowing small stones to jam between the rotor and brakes causing the vehicle to pull (ecentually start to brake on one wheel - problematic especially when braking on wet or icy roads.
Consumer lost her husband after the parking brake system disengaged and ran over him on his 2002 Ford f350. The consumer was attempting to tow another vehicle. The consumer had planned to drive up a street ramp to the street. The consumer was unable to make the turn on the ramp with the other vehicle attached. In order to complete the tow, the consumer engaged the parking brake with his tow truck in neutral, engaged the power take off and lowered the vehicle being towed to the ground. A few seconds after the towed vehicle had been removed, the consumers vehicle began to roll. The consumer was found under his tow truck. The cause of death was declared as mechanical asphyxiation. Experts conducted extensive inspections and concluded the parking brake was defective. The lock pinion in the parking brake controller was capable of skipping out of place at its point of engagement with the lock sector stop, which created slack in the rear brake cables. The parking brake was missing several features would have prevented the consumers death, including a self adjusting drum in hat assembly, a more robust bump stop, more robust pinion teeth, a collar to secure the engagement of the pinion and the sector and an encapsulated take up spring.

Truck was parked in garage, facing out of garage. Truck had not been driven for 4 days. Truck had handbreak set when parked. I started truck up due to the number of days it had not been driven to charge battery. Verfyed that handbrake was set ( red brake light was on) and place truck in neuteral (5-speed). (garage door was open due to truck running). I went inside and about 5 min passed looked out kitchen window saw truck at end of drive way. Truck was stopped by tow hook hitting tree. Driver side mirrow hit tree and was folded back.
