1 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 07/13/2025

My 2021 Ford f 450 will not actuate the electric over hydraulic brakes on my gooseneck trailer. I was hauling my tractor to one of my hay fields when a car pulled out in front me. I apply my foot to the brake pedal and the truck and trailer did not slow down liked it use to and I almost rear ended the vehicle that pulled out in front of me. After this I try to apply just the trailer brakes using the brake actuator on the dash and the trailer brakes never operated. I check my fuses and they were good and I checked the trailer using another truck and they worked. I then checked the trailer wiring connections on my truck and they were good. I have done a manual reset on my trucks programming and the truck still will not activate the trailer brakes. Please help.

4 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 09/30/2024

The tailgate has opened randomly on about 4 or 5 occasions most recently the tailgate opened making a right turn while the horse trailer was connected to it and damaged the tailgate. It seems to open on right turns or when washed or been raining. The key is kept in the console and I always apply the parking brake. It is very random. There was a recall/ owner satisfaction program 21m01 but this truck is out of the production date and was advised this was fixed in production so either the repair the "fix" did not work or maybe mine got old stock. The truck has been out of service for this for over 6 weeks and is still at the dealer. Two engineers have looked at it and no answers as of today 11-1-2024. We have another 2022 f350 with different production date and that one has open 21m01 on it which was allegedly fixed.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

On 6/7/24, while driving around the baltimore beltway towing a 44' RV in rush-hour traffic a battery warning light appeared. Within 1 min, the vehicle dashboard information went out and the engine stalled. I immediately put the vehicle in neutral and was able to coast to the shoulder without advantage of turn signals on either the RV or truck as a result. Once there I popped the hood and was able to get out to open it, however, there was a fire and my fingers were singed. After opening the hood, I noticed a full engine fire. I yelled for my wife to get out ASAP. I was able to extinguish the fire (thanks to the RV extinguisher), however, a secondary fire started, and a samaritan help extinguish that fire. A fire department truck appeared, and they cut the batter cable since it seemed to have started the fire. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership where it was purchased. The insurance agent stated a mechanic had informed him; they believe it was the battery that was the cause. All vehicle maintenance was conducted by the dealership due to warranty and an extended vehicle maintenance plan purchased at the time of sale. Ford has failed to acknowledge any problems with the vehicle and refused to honor the warranty.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 12/08/2023

My horn started going off continuously, I got messages on my digital dash system, saying that my lane assist had a fault, my adaptive speed control was faulty, and other system. Safety features were inactive. Ford has an issue, and they acknowledge the issue of the fuse box under the hood randomly coming off, which allows water to get into the fuse system, and start corroding wires which start sending mixed signals and failures to the system.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 10/06/2023

My tailgate came open randomly while pulling a trailer. Ford knows about this issue, but is yet to make a recall and not sure they’re going to cover the damage done to my tailgate. The tailgate randomly came open when I had turned a corner, and when I straightened back out made my truck and trailer jumped all over the road because the tailgate contacted the trailer.

10 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Ford F-450

11 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 07/03/2021

Unknown. So, on may 30th, 2021 my passenger side main battery blew up for no reason. I took it to autozone and we checked the system and everything seem fine and had the correct voltage. On July 3, 2021 my truck started smoking. I pulled over, put the truck in park and shut off the truck. I looked around trying to locate the cause of the smoke but couldn’t. I opened all the doors to air out the truck. Everything seemed to be fine at the time so I got back in and started driving. I got about 200 yards and then smoke started to come heavily out of the vents on the left and right side of the stereo. I pulled over again in a safe area away from cars and building, put the the truck in park and shut off the truck. I looked in the vents where the smoke was coming from and noticed flames. I grabbed my keys, ran to my trailer, grabbed a 7 gallon jug of water, ran back, called 911 and proceeded to try and put the fire out. While talking to 911 they asked where I was and address. I didn’t know but they kept insisting. I stopped located a number on a building and told them. Turned around after 30 seconds or so and the entire dash was engulfed in flames. I grabbed my computer, xbox, and dogs. One dog got scared and ran into the trailer it took me about a min to get her out. I looked back at the truck and the whole truck at that time was engulfed in flames.

12 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 06/16/2021

Tailgate opens unexpectedly while vehicle is in motion. This has happened repeatedly over the past 12 months. After confirming that the tailgate was not inadvertently left open or opened while the vehicle was moving, we realized that the problem was internal. We could not find a cause of the problem with the tailgate opening. It caused damage to the tailgate and the towed fifth wheel. Cargo items stored in the truck bed (under the tonneau cover) have fallen out onto the road when the tailgate opens unexpectedly. This could have caused a major accident or death. I believe this truck has an electric tailgate latch release switch in the tailgate handle and I'm not sure whether this is a possible cause. We took the truck to the Ford dealer who advised that the tailgate was not covered by any recall or warranty other than the extended warranty we purchased, for which we had to pay a deductible. The Ford dealer is also denying any responsibility for damage to the tailgate itself, damage to the fifth wheel, or damage from and loss of loose cargo falling out. We paid for the fix to the defective tailgate mechanism but feel strongly that this should be recalled due to the high risk of death or injury when the tailgate opens unexpectedly. Below date is only the most recent occurrence; as stated above, this has occurred multiple times including approximately June 12, 2021, April 20, 2021, September 24, 2020, September 30, 2020, August 9, 2020, and November 24, 2019.

17 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 12/10/2019

Was passing by the truck the alarm was going off, upon opening the door there was water pouring out of the door, then I noticed the front dash was soaking wet. The console had several inches of water in it. The truck was flatbedded to columbia Ford, found sunroof was installed improperly from Ford factory. Truck has 2" of water in console, dripping from headliner and switches, and floor. Seats are soaked. The truck is currently at Ford dealership they are telling me they cannot remove the seats or the floor mats because Ford will not reimburse them to do the job. Now my truck has been exposed to major water for 10 days and is still not being fixed. No one is touching the water that remains in the console, floor or seats. Ford has been contacted directly and they have denied replacement of this vehicle. This truck only has 23,000 miles on it and was in extremely good condlition prior to this happening. We have been going to the dealership everyday to see if this truck is drying out. We just removed the sill plate to expose wires that are completely underwater. And there is still 1" of water in the floor of the truck. The service mngr quoted to me there will be no way he could guarantee that this truck will not mold and will not have electrical issues in the future. They are not taking out anything out of the truck, seats, floor liner . . . Nothing. We have a case number with Ford, they are the ones that recommended that we contact your company for assistance because Ford has denied the claim for replacement of this vehicle. I feel that this truck is going to mold due to the water and is an electrical (fire) hazard due to the water in the switches corroding and for the length of time of exposure. There was water pouring out of the switches in the ceiling that control the sunroof into the console and down the front dash. There is discoloration already started.

Ford is refusing to repair it under warranty. The truck has 3800 miles on it and has not even had its first oil change. This could have caused a serious wreck if I had been on the interstate.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

This vehicle, which is an ambulance, was dispatched to an emergency call. As they turned into the drive of the facility the chimes sounded and the engine shut off. Had this vehicle been on the highway at the time, it would have been a very dangerous situation for the crew involved. At the very least, another ambulance had to be dispatched to the call and delayed care to the patient. It was determined later that the egt sensor had failed, although there was apparently no problem in the exhaust system at the time.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 09/18/2007

This 2006 Ford e450 super duty with a 6. 0l engine has been trouble right from the start. The first thing to go wrong was the turbo that went out on 09/18/2007 with only 12,000 miles. Next at 15,000 miles the vehicle had starting and running problems and the dealer replaced several parts on top of motor. From this time forward up to 29000 miles the squad was towed several times for more engine repairs and replacement parts. From 29,000 to 53,000 things got worse. The vehicle was towed in again for egr cooler problems, injector problem and radiator failed. Two of these times was when we had a patient and had to call for a back up unit to respond. From 53,000 miles to 62,000 miles we had several more times of no start and no power problem that left the squad only able to go 35 mph. We had more engine parts replaced and computers. The last event was when we had fuel getting into the coolant and found both heads cracked and egr cooler bad again. We had engine repaired with all after market parts costing over $9000. In one year squad was out of service for over 2 months with engine problems. Squad has been out of service for about 12 months since new. All problems have been engine related.

26 Electrical System problem of the 1999 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

I have a 1999 Ford power stroke diesel. In may of 2006 I had a cps failure which caused my vehicle to shut down intermittently while traveling, mostly in intersections and at stops. The problem continued for several weeks until I could identify the cps as the cause. Since then I have changed out three cps units on three other superduty's. I replaced all of the units with International parts due to the excessive cost of the unit from Ford. Unfortunately, I did not save the defective parts being all to happy to discard them!.

27 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 04/17/2006

The fuel injector controls went out at less than 15,000 miles. After that engine always ran hot. Engine buned up at less than 60,000 miles. They put a new one in and now the turbo is not operating right, truck will only pull a load at 50 mph. All of the events listed here happened before the truck was one year old! because of all of these faults I have missed about 2 months of work waiting on them to get it fixed. I feed my family with my truck, if it doesn't work they don't eat.

28 Electrical System problem of the 1999 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 11/13/2004

I have a '1999 f250 Ford with a triton v10. On Nov 13th one of the spark plugs blew out of the head. I was able to drive it home and after some research on the internet ordered a repair kit. I repaired the failure with this kit and all is well for now. The kit cost me $300 bucks and the repair took about 4hrs. This is design flaw with the Ford engines. Hopefully, after enough complaints Ford will at least fix this on future models.
