Recall campaign for Ford f550 trucks concerning the vale stems used on 19. 5 inch tires. One of the vehicle's tires had to be replaced because the valve stem failed causing severe damage to the tires sidewall. I own a 2000 Ford f550 modified by fontaine modification company, louisville, ky to tow a fifth wheel trailer, gvr 15,900 lbs. This was a demo vehicle for fontaine and had 2598 miles on the odometer. It was delivered to me as a new vehicle with a 3 year 36,000 miles warranty on 9-29-2002. Prior to purchasing this vehicle, the dealer, cunningham campers had two blow outs on the right rear dual 225/70r-19. 5/f general tires on 8-6-2002. Two more blow outs, (explosions) occurred in of June 2003, while the vehicle was parked. I replaced the general tires with michelin tires. This vehicle was delivered without high pressure valve stems which I replaced with the high pressure valve stems after the second blowout. The local Ford dealer refused to take any action on my complaint and blamed continental tire company (general) and continental blamed Ford for the problem saying that the zipper tears were caused by inferior valve stems. I have another tire that is very questionable and I am afraid to go on the highway towing a 5th wheel that weighs 15,900 with tires experienced 4 blow outs in the past year and a questionable 5th tire and 4 more original tires left on the vehicle which neither Ford nor continental will take responsibility for. I will be taking several long trips in the next year totaling over 5,000 miles--help .
The tire experienced the same defect as stated in recall no. 01 v 046 000, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. The valve cover had come out of the rim, it was loose, and leaked air. The tires lost all air and had run flat, causing them to be too dangerous to re-inflate. (broken down sidewalls) the dealer thought nothing was wrong with the valves. Scc.
Recall 01v046000/manufacturer's recall 01s05; rear axle inside dual tire deflated due to valve stem rupturing. Vehicle was at dealer being serviced. Also, the problem is due to wrong size valve stem for tire combined with vehicle's weight capacity and tire pressure. Dealer is aware. On another occasion, the right front stem blew out completely at 60 mph damaging tire. General tires lmt 400 dot cu9r hmtj 499.
Consumer states all the valve stem was replace due to a past recall and now the problem reoccurring. Dealer notified. Nlm.
While pulling 17,000 lb. 5th wheel at 75 mph or more a passerby honked his horn and pointed to the vehicle rear passenger dual tires. The consumer pulled over and found that the inside tire tread had completely separated from the sidewalls. The tire did not blow out, the valve stem was defective and all the air leaked out causing the tire to deflate and then separate, dealer replaced the defective rubber valve stems with steel stems. Two more rubber valve stems were leaking and dealer replaced with steel, consumer thinks the recall was not done properly, if it had been the stems would not have leaked again, NHTSA campaign id#01v046000, general tires, dot#cu9rhmtj0600, tire size# 225/70r 195 lmt400.
Consumer was informed that vehicle was affected by recall 01v046000 concerning tire: valve stem. Dealership performed recall repairs. However, tire that was missing a valve stem was not replaced according to the corrective action defined by recall. Those tires have been rotated, and consumer was unsure which tire was unsafe. Please provide any additional information / attachments.
Consumer received a recall notice from Ford regarding the tires, valve stem #10v046. Consumer was not present during the inspection of the vehicle. Consumer was informed by the dealer that it was up to Ford's specifications. In September the inside rear tire went flat. Consumer was pulling a trailer and didnt realize there was a flat. The tire side walls were destroyed. Because of the damage, there was no way to determine the cause. In July of 2002, two of the inside rear tires went flat simultaneously. Consumer was pulling a trailer at the time and had been checking the tires every 70 miles. Upon taking the tires to the local dealer, it was determined that the cause of failure was the valve stems. The dealer informed consumer that he was unable to comply with the request to put heavy duty truck valve stems on the full set because of the design of the rims which would not allow for the bolt type valve stems. Consumer feels Ford should reimburse for the replacement valve stems and tires.
While towing 17,500 lb. Fifthwheel, consumer noticed broken valve stem on a continental general 225 / 70r 19. 5 lmt 400 tire and no air in tire. First dealership would not repair stating that side wall of tire could be damaged. Consumer went to another dealer and had the valve repaired. Upon departing dealer, consumer notice another valve was missing. Consumer took vehicle back to original dealer and was under the impression that all four tires would be replaced. Instead, dealer repaired all 4 valve stems.
Recall 01v046000 on valve stems done on 23 Apr. 2001. Dealer inspected valve stems, did not replace them. Then on 30 may 2001, passenger's rear inside tire was found flat while parked. On June 18th, driver side front valve stem broke.
Consumer had a tire valve stem inspection. Dealer inspected tire one week before, he had a valve blowout, causing him to lose control.
Dealer will only replace valve stems, not leaking tires as stated in recall. Ford says it's up to dealer. Vehicle has had 3 blowouts on may 2 and 3 , 2001; 1 right front, and 2 rear tires, after valve stems were replaced.
Dealer only replaced valve stems, refused to replace leaking tires as stated in recall. Ford said it was up to dealer. Vehicle had right rear tire blowout on may 2, 2001; front left tire blowout on may 8, 2001.
Dealer only replaced valve stems, refused to replace leaking tires as stated in recall. Ford stated it was up to dealer.
The valve stems failed on 3 tires, which caused the tires to fail, however the warranty tire center indicated a nail was embedded in the tire.
Consumer received recall notification (01s05) consumer took vehicle in for inspection of the valve stem and it was determined that the tire was defective, however tire was not available.
Valve stem failures on four tires while in transit. Three of the tires I have as evidence plus valve stem and photographs of tires. Tire #1 12,000 miles, #2 13,000 miles, #3 14,500 miles. I went for valve stem recall about 14-17 months prior to all tire failures at sayville Ford. I have all documentation, bills for road service repairs, etc. They told me the "zipper failure" on the sidewall is due to "uninflated tires not the faulty valve stems that failed". The last blowout is still on the rim which I will change soon being it is the spare tire. One tire was thrown out (discarded) by error. I would like to be reimbursed for the three tires that I kept for evidence, new valve stems (different type) and road service.
I think metal valve stems are needed in these h. D. Trucks. Has any failed? ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*****769357.
