2 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Ford F-550

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

At ~93,000 miles, my 2020 Ford F-550 (7. 3l “godzilla” v8) suffered catastrophic engine failure due to a roller lifter bearing failure, causing internal valvetrain damage and requiring full engine replacement. Ford dealer stated they recommended 90% coverage of the repair under goodwill through corporate, but later reduced coverage to 40% without explanation. After repairs, Ford corporate recommended a 3-year/36,000-mile premiumcare warranty, then rescinded it a week later and offered only free oil changes. The 7. 3l engine in my truck shares the same design as the f-53/f-59 motorhome chassis, which have multiple technical service bulletins (tsbs) for lifter bearing failure, overheating of cylinders #2–3, and low oil pressure at idle. My vehicle shows identical symptoms but was excluded from those VIN ranges, suggesting Ford is segmenting related defects to limit recall exposure. Inspection revealed a cracked and arcing spark-plug wire on cylinder #2, matching the motorhome TSB’s overheating issue. This arcing poses a fire risk and likely contributed to localized heat and mechanical failure. The truck was often driven in eco mode, which holds low rpms under load. This can increase cylinder pressure, reduce oil flow, and exacerbate heat in cylinders #2–3—factors that align with the failure pattern. This combination of design-related overheating, lifter bearing failure, oil-pressure fluctuation, and spark-wire arcing presents a clear safety hazard. Engine stall or fire could occur under towing or heavy-load conditions. Nhtsa investigation is warranted into Ford’s 7. 3l godzilla engine design and VIN-exclusion practices.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Ford F-550

Failure Date: 12/03/2024

Several dash warnings came on the dash. Cruise control stopped working, hill assist, parking brake, many others. 4 wheel drive quit working!. I looked on line. Several forums stated to look for a loose connection at the rear of the truck, so it must be a rather common problem. I took the truck to the dealer, they refused to make a warranty repair because the cable was moved when the dump bed was installed. They said the cable was "bent" it is a cable, not a piece of glass. I am sure a new harness will be coiled and not shipped on a 6 ft x 12 ft pallet. . There was an issue with the same thing as I drove home from the dealer after hitting a hard bump when there was only a few miles on it. I called the salesman, but it claered and never returned, until I was in a sever snow storm pulling a trailer. The 4 wd went out causing a partial loss of control.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Ford F-550

Failure Date: 09/02/2021

While driving down the road at approximately 45 mph, under normal conditions, with no warning indicators the low fuel pressure light came on. When the driver stopped the vehicle he lost all power and observed smoke emanating from the underside and hood of the vehicle. Prior to him exiting the vehicle he observed flames shooting out from under the console towards his feet. Upon exiting the vehicle I saw flames under the hood of the vehicle and utilized his supplied fire extinguisher to attempt to put the fire out. This was futile and to our benefit he had a pressure washer and 119 gallons of water that he was able to put into action to subdue the fire. Noting that the drivers side front fender melted off and a hole melted in the drivers side hood from the fire. The entire engine compartment was burned as well as melted components and plastic in the passenger compartment of the vehicle from the fire.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Ford F-550

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

Diesel exhaust fluid system failed shutting down my vehicle while driving and I had to be towed to a Ford dealer. This is a safety issue and could have caused a major accident on the highway. I never got a recall notice about this major problem. Now I am told I would have to spend over $5000. 00 to get this problem fixed. Ford had gotten many complaints about this issue. They should pay to have this repair done. I only had this vehicle for a short time and paid over $59,000 for it. I tried to contact several Ford executives over two weeks ago and heard back from none.
