3 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2025

The transmission control module (tcm) on my 2015 Ford Fiesta was failing at 81,000 miles. It was difficult to accelerate the car even at low speeds (25-30 mph) and my check engine light was on. I took my vehicle to the nearest Ford dealership (big star Ford in manvel, TX) who assessed my vehicle and determined the tcm needed to be replaced. They replaced the part but told me it was not under the 14m02 warranty. My check engine light did come on once back in may and the car was struggling to speed up but when I took it to a car shop the check engine light was not on and the mechanic said it was fine.

9 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2023

Tcm has now faulted twice on my Ford Fiesta. My Fiesta was built 7/9/2015. My tcm was replaced under standard power train warranty in 10/2019 at 47,000 miles. 02/2023 my tcm has faulted again at 68,500 miles and needs to be replaced. Ford extended its warranty on tcms for their Fiesta models to 10 years 150,000 miles for Fiestas built between 11/3/2009 and 6/30/2015. My car is out of the extended warranty build date parameters by 9 days, however now already needing 2 tcm replacements it is apparent my car does have defects and should be covered.

10 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2022

When accelerating, there is a shuddering sensation as you can feel the clutches slipping. The shifting is also sluggish at times. When in "sport mode" an error state can occur where the transmission fails to shift gears altogether and a warning comes up on the dashboard to service the transmission immediately. While that error is up, the shuddering becomes much worse and the engine will try to lurch forward at random times when it chooses the wrong gear. This lurching will fight the brakes too, decreasing stopping distance if the driver isn't extra diligent. This error state is cleared by stopping and starting the car again. There are no other visible dashboard warnings associated with this issue in daily driving. I took it to a local service center to be diagnosed and they determined it was either a worn clutch or a faulty tcm in need of a replacement. I took it to the Ford dealership in the area, and they narrowed it down to the clutch and not the tcm. Ford issued an extended warranty for this issue on other 2015 Ford Fiestas, but mine fell just outside the required build date despite having identical symptoms as what the warranty was for on the other cars. The car is only 7 years old with 92k miles on it, so if it was part of the aforementioned extended warranty (7 years or 100k miles) it would qualify, but not for much longer. This seems to be a known issue that Ford never fixed despite the car being outside the extended warranty cutoff.

11 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle began to lose forward momentum. The contact stated that the check engine warning was illuminated. The contact stated she pulled over and stopped the vehicle, she had not turned the vehicle off. The contact attempted to shift into reverse (r) and the vehicle would only rev when she depressed the accelerator pedal. The contact attempted to shift into drive (d) and the vehicle again only revved and did not move forward. The contact turned the vehicle off and had it towed to a dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer that the tcm had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer under customer satisfaction program 14m02 transmission control module (power train). The vehicle had been repaired. The contact was called by the dealer, prior to her picking the vehicle up, and advised that the actual failure was the clutch, however the dealer advised that she was no longer under warranty coverage for customer satisfaction program 19n08 transmission clutch shudder (power train). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.

12 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2019

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall as the service engine warning light flashed. The manufacturer sent out a notification to have the vehicle serviced under a customer satisfaction warranty. The vehicle was taken to karl flammer Ford (41975 us hwy 19 n, tarpon springs, FL 34689) where he was then informed that they could not repair the vehicle until they received a certain part to repair the transmission. While at the dealer, the contact stated that the transmission control module was updated ; despite the update, the failure persisted. The contact was informed by the dealer that he would be notified of when the part became available. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and confirmed the information provided by the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 161,000.

13 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

My car is 3 years old and had the transmission replaced 6 months after I purchased the car and then it had the transmission control module replaced - now I always take my car to the dealer for repairs : my car broke down 2 weeks again amd I had it towed to the dealer - they told me I had to pay for a new battery in order for them to find out what was wrong with my car $300 it cost me ( I just replaced the battery in my car 6 months ago), bright car home and check engine light was on( I asked to speak with a manager at this point and the manager in charge told me that they would get it fixed -$73 it cost me. ( I was charged only for the part-no labor ) bright car home on Thursday and car was making a noise so I texted the manager and he said if it was still safe to drive then do so and bring it in on Monday. It broke down that Sunday and was towed into dealer. Now the engine is ruined and they expect me to pay for it when it was their neglect that caused the engine to blow. It was the timing built - when they finally realized that it was too late. I was not charged for the timing belt either. I take my car only to chapman Ford 9371 roosevelt blvd 19114.

14 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2018

My vehicle is affected by the problematic power shift dual-clutch 6 speed automatic transmission. It has been to the service department twice since November 2018 for transmission issues. Ford claims my vehicle is not covered by the powertrain warranty extension for vehicles with this transmission in this range of years. They are unresponsive to explain why I don't get the extended coverage when my vehicle clearly qualifies. There should be powertrain warranty coverage on this vehicle for 100k miles vs 60k miles. When I ask about it, they tell me to file a complaint with NHTSA. The car only has 53k miles on it. It has suffered failed clutches, worn input shaft bearings, and probably a bad tcm. It is in the shop now for the tcm. The problems cause shuttering, lurching, poor acceleration, and failure to downshift, which is dangerous when trying to merge into traffic. All these things happen from a dead stop or deceleration for a turn, and acceleration.

15 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2017

Vehicle hesitates and sputters when taking off on city roads, when stopped at stop light or making a left hand turn into traffic. Real scary to pull out in front of traffic, when you could lose power. Very stressful to drive. Misses while driving also. Tcm has been flashed. Replaced. Clutch just replaced. Overheating light comes on and car loses power: on city street, usually when stopped at a traffic light. Dangerous. ! has done multiple times. 3rd time into dealer for overheating. Last time when, pulled over, after losing power, in city traffic, hood was raised to check fan, and the fan was running but this is what dealership replaced. Overheating seems to happen when stopped in city traffic. Overheating light comes on and then there's a power loss. I think the only reason you don't have a real lot of complaints about Ford Fiestas is because, I don't think a lot of ppl know to go here to report problems. I just found it. Just like prior person said, if you try to sell it, Ford really takes advantage of you. Even though your car is only two years old, and you have a defective product. Thank you. So your stuck. . .

16 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

Have had to have the transmission control module reprogrammed at least 4 times by 27,000 miles and clutch replacement. The car is unsafe to drive as it will hesitate when power is needed and expected or will downshift and cause car to lunge aggressively forward while braking. It seems also common for the model to stall on highway and clutches refuse to ingage in any gear. I've had many of these issues occurring and it is a major safety problem. I fear for my safety and life every time I have to drive it.

17 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2016

Fords powershift transmission fails to shift correctly between first and second gears. The car shudders, shakes, and groans withing the transmission. The car has been to the dealer as almost all Ford dealerships will tell you Ford really has no fix for their dangerous design of this transmission. The vehicle does not meet Fords self-implemented test to have the transmission fixed. Instead they reflash the tcm to retrain the computer, this does nothing but prolong their diagnostic process, as you then have to drive vehicle another 1000 miles before they will allow dealerships to look at vehicle again. Ford is trying to avoid a recall on this dangerous transmission which should have been forced by the NHTSA to recall and replace all Ford Fiesta and focus with this type of transmission. The symptoms of this transmission failing are surging of vehicle, loss of drive power, shudder, harsh engagement of engine power, lack of vehicle control due to engagement/disengagement of electronic activate clutches.

18 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2016

Takata recall. . . . . Transmission tcm & pcm module shuttering, jerking and shaking while proceeding from a idle position. Clanking nose underneath car. Still having issues.

19 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

01/19/2015 my boyfriend had driven my car to the store, about one mile from my home. About 10:40 pm. Receipt shows that he had checked out at 10:53 pm. He tells me that he entered my car about 3 minutes later, because it was parked close to the store, he loaded the shopping bags into the trunk of the car and got in and started the car and backed out from the parking space, and then went forward he states it was about no more then 25 yards, when he noticed that the cars transmission, at first hesitated to shift, and then made a slight jerk to the next gear, then jerked once again slightly. He tells me that he then stop the car, and started again forward, and at this time, he did not feel any problems, so I again stopped the car, and put it into reverse. And backed up at 4 mph, he he did not notice any problems. He again stopped the car, and then drove again forward at 10 to 15 mph with no problem to home. 01/20/2015 I got into my car with my boyfriend to go to work, 915 am. Boyfriend driving. We drove my car out of the apartment complex where I reside, and did not notice a shifting problem, until we entered the street, and that is when the car hesitate to shift upon acceleration, and the engine revved up loudly, and then jerked into gear. At the Ford dealership my boyfriend told the service adviser about the issues with the cars transmission, and he was told by the service adviser, that Ford knows about the issue, and had issued a service bulletin. He then went on to state that the Ford service bulletin states that the problem is caused my a faulty transmission control module, and also a internal leak in the clutch housing on the transmission, and that Ford will only repair the issue at 1,500 miles, not before that time. He also stated that the transmission could be computer tuned to help stop the problem.
