It may be possible for the pawl spring tab inside one or more of the side door latches to break. This condition will typically prevent the door from latching. In certain situations, where the door is able to be closed, the door may unlatch while driving. Safety risk: if you are able to latch the door after repeated attempts to shut the door, there is a potential the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury.

The passenger side door will not stay shut. There is a door latch recall on many 2011 Fiesta's but this car is not listed as an affected VIN. The two rear doors were repaired around the end of 2018 for the same issue. This is a huge safety issue and Ford just says that it is not affected by the recall. This is exactly what the recall is for.

After a recall of door latches that were replaced I have had 3 other latches malfunction. Most recently my driver side door. I had talked to my dealership and they told me I am responsible for the repair now. They did repair one latch after the recall work was done under warranty. I currently cannot safely drive my vehicle!.

If batery is dead there is no other way to unlock this car. One button to unlock or lock all 4 doors if some was to loose power while driving or while inside vehicle they would be stuck unless they break a window. That I see as a major way of someone deaths.

Right front passenger door latch failed (155364miles on odometer). Can't close/lock door. Latches were replaced under recall 2/28/18 @ 148,721 miles.
4/2019 found out about door recall. Quirk Ford said they fixed all 4 doors before I bought the car in 9/2016 however 4/2019 my back drivers side door latch broke and I could not lock the door. It kept opening while driving. Fixed it. 10/19 my front passenger door had the same issue and the cable in the door broke as well. Kept opening when driving even though I tied it with a cord. Nothing happened to the doors prior to the latches failing. Got this fixed I am afraid this may happen with the other doors and result in a serious accident. I feel they are still using defective latches.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta , the contact stated that the rear passenger door failed to close. The contact had a bungee cord attached to the door to keep shut. The door ajar warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to springfield Ford Lincoln 50 baltimore pike, springfield, PA 19064 (610) 544-0700 but, was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted who provided case number cas-242393 but did not assist. The failure mileage was 65,000. The contact stated that the failure was similar to NHTSA campaign number 15v246000 latches/locks/linkages. Ap.
The rear left door latch broke. I simply opened and closed the door. The latch must've broken when I closed it because the door came loose on my drive home. No accident occurred, but it is definitely a safety concern as the door could've hit an oncoming car since I couldn't immediately reach/secure the door. The door will close flush with the car, but just won't latch. Neither handle seems to have any influence on the car latch either. This issue sounds like the 15s16 safety recall, but is reportedly not applicable to my car. I am paying to get the one door fixed, but am worried about the other doors doing the same thing.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that the front driver's side door did not latch. The contact was told to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. Locks flew open again when I was driving on the freeway. This time the lock on the passenger side. The door opened suddenly as I was driving on the highway. A few months ago, the driver's side had the same problem. I took it to Ford and they refused to repair it because they said there is no recall for this car. I reported it but it seems there was no feedback from this website either. Nobody called or emailed.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that while driving about 55 mph, the front passenger's and the driver's side doors unlocked and did not lock again. A door warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the berge Ford (480)-97-7550, located at 460 e auto center dr, mesa, az 85204) where it was stated that there was no recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure . Mileage was approximately 49,884. Fe.
Driving on expressway, exterior door handles fell off, drivers side and passenger side front doors. Citing an open recall NHTSA vehicle safety recalls recall number 15v246000 04/25/2015 latches/locks/linkages:door:latch.
The latch to open the car from the drivers door broke from opening. The material does not do well with the heat.
The door latch on the back door doesn't work, I see a recall for my specific vehicle type but not my VIN.
I took the vehicle in to a dealership several years ago to address the faulty door latch assembly (passenger-side rear) as per the recall on this vehicle. I was told that this was due to a design flaw in the assembly (basically using a cheap part that easily breaks). Last year, I had another door latch assembly (driver-side rear) fail after having all four of them supposedly replaced. I once again took it to the dealer who charged several hundred dollars as it was outside of the 1 year warranty window. The dealer and Ford both told me I was out of luck and it was my problem. Just last night I had another assembly fail, this time the driver-side front. I refuse to pay any money to them as these things are clearly faulty and a safety hazard, but they refuse to address the issue properly. I would like to know what recourse I have to force them to fix this safety issue properly once and for all.
Second door latch broke in less than two weeks apart from the last door latch failure. Submitted complaint number 11222994, about rear passenger door latch failure. Took that in to be fixed July 3rd. Now my front passenger door is broken. Haven't seen an investigation started and have not been reached to about my previous complaint. I am now worried about my child and am scared every time I put her in the back seat I'm wondering when will this door break? when will Ford start an investigation and get this fixed? put out another recall! and when I call the dealership to make an appointment for them to fix my vehicle they say they don't have an appointment til the beginning of August. This is a safety issue and needs to be resolved ASAP! I don't want to wait three weeks for something that should be fixed ASAP!.
The passenger-side door will not open from the inside.
Both of my rear door latches stopped latching. Both occurred as the vehicle was stationary. There was a recall for the original latches, however a dealership indicated that they were replaced and my current latches no longer fall under the recall. However, having both rear door latches malfunction leads me to believe the safety of the replaced latches should also be looked into.
Passenger door does not close whatsoever. When driving, taking left turns the door swings open, has to be held down to prevent it. The defective door latches on these vehicles can prevent the door from properly closing. This can result in the door opening while the vehicle is moving. Many customers indicated that the door would not latch at all so they decided to restrain the door by other means (looping the seatbelt through the door, or using rope or tape) in order to drive the vehicle. Some customers also reported multiple door latch failures occurring on the same vehicle on different doors occurring months apart. My 2014 Ford Fiesta manufactured on April 2014 is not covered by recall 15s16, parts and labored not getting covered by Ford. Seems like not all cars are included in this recall, even though the recall notice states so.
Driver side door latch will not catch and flies open. Luckily when the latch malfunctioned I was in a parking lot and not driving. I left my car in my work parking lot in the am and came out of work in the pm to realize that my car door did not latch when I shut it and no longer latches. Took to local Ford dealership (lance cunningham Ford - knoxville TN) and was told it would be 456. 00 to fix. When asked about the recall for the exact problem (safety recall 15s16) I was told that my car did not qualify. The car has 45,600 miles on it.
The left rear door latch broke when the door was closed. This happened in our driveway as we were preparing to leave on a trip. If this latch had broken while the vehicle was being driven it could have resulted in an accident causing damage to this or other vehicles and possible injury or death to occupants or bystanders. Ford recalled nearly 390,000 2012-2014 Fiesta, focus and Lincoln models for this same problem. This vehicle was manufactured less than two weeks after the problem was supposed to have been fixed at the plant in mexico. Apparently they should have recalled more since this vehicle was exempted from that recall, but obviously has the same defect. I am now forced to pay $300 to repair a vehicle which Ford should have known was defective. These vehicles need to be recalled and repaired at Ford's expense, not the customer's. The recall notice was 15f16 regarding this problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that the passenger side entire lock mechanisms failed. The contact called koons Ford of baltimore dealer, (6970 security blvd, woodlawn, MD 21244) and informed to schedule an appointment. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v246000 (latches/locks/linkages). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000. Aw.
My 2013 Ford Fiesta doors have become unlatched 4 times. The first time while I was driving on the the highway, the second time while I was driving on the city street, the third time when I made a right turn on the city street and the 4th time driving home on the city street. I have had to attach cords to my doors to keep them closed each time they have swung open. I took the car to gwinnett place Ford 3 times but the 4th time I took the car to angela kraus Ford to get out of the vehicle. My children have been in this vehicle with the door latch failing. Instead of Ford getting me out that vehicle and replacing it with another with the same value they instead treated me twice as if I was a regular customer trading in the car and I was asked to put money down for another vehicle and add a CO-signer, which I don't have so I was denied another vehicle. I purchased the car from us auto sales and they too allowed me to drive away from the lot with cords holding my door together because they couldn't approve me for another car. I refuse to put my children and myself back in that dangerous vehicle. I don't know what to do now, the car is just sitting in my parking lot with cords keeping the door closed.
Passenger back door will not latch/close . I was not driving, I was trying to get something out the back seat, went to close the door and noticed it would not close anymore the latch is broken, I got the car last year so I was unaware of any recalls. My door won't stay close making it hard to drive.
Takata recall car will not go into revers takata recall gear change is rough wile driving forewords shudders I have to turn key on and off many times before it will start loud clunk when making a right turn takata recall took car in for sync recall many times still not fixed.
Rear left door opened while I was driving. I stopped the car to close the door and the door didn't close anymore. Door latch is broken. There is a recall 15s16 for the 2011-2014 Fiestas for this same reason. It is clear that 2015 models have the same problem. This is a safety critical issue that needs to investigated in 2015 Fiesta model since the issue is still present from safety recall with number 15s16. The door opened while I was driving and could have injured or killed a person. I contacted Ford and they cannot confirm that my 2015 Ford which I bought in 2014 does not have the same affected part numbers for the door latches as the 2011 to 2014 models.
Door latch on the driver side and passenger rear door not working.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated all four door latches fell apart off the vehicle. The contact stated her airbag light is illuminating on and off. The contact stated she took the vehicle to paris Ford Lincoln, inc. (2020 ne loop 286, paris, TX 75460) where a diagnostic test was not taken. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14259. Lj.
Even though Ford states the recall on the door latches were done, the latches are malfunctioning again and the doors pop open going down the road.
1) door latches are faulty. Any door can open while car is in motion. Also, door latch sensors are faulty and cause all interior lights to come on if it thinks a door is open. Happens within 1st mile driven every time since 80k miles. 2) in snow, the piece of body plastic in front of the front tires can get caught and dragged underneath the front tires. 3) electrical problems: fuse box rusts, prongs break off in fuse box. Sometimes pushing clutch in would cause lights to dim or speaker static (manual transmission). Problematic 12v (always hot) routinely broke 12v devices. Dealership was unable to fix this at last warranty maintenance. 4) several dealerships were unable to solve or find the cause of any of the following: brake rotor usually causes howling sound under 30mph after a few miles, (started around 50,000 miles) and car sometimes shut off while stopped & idling (rare, started around 70,000 miles). Also, manual transmission lever gets too sticky to move without extreme force unpredictably, (started around 25,0000 miles). Every time was told transmission fluid looks fine. 5) high pitched whirring sound and loss of power with ac or defroster, worse as time went on 6) car was sold because cost to repair faulty door sensors leading to headlights never turning off, thereby causing battery to drain below 12v regularly, exceeded the car's value. Car would not pass inspection with this issue & needed frequent jump starts. 7) extreme distraction: "sync" interface will cut off stereo audio without warning to try and connect to mobile phone for a vehicle health report in the middle of driving. 8) air flow sensor goes off frequently starting around 50,000 miles, only solution is spraying in lots of air flow sensor cleaner. 9) drivers side windshield wiper fell off about a dozen times, even dealership installed. Very unsafe car in my opinion.
Ford Fiesta 2013 door lacth not working. Door flew open as driver was driving down a highway. Driver had to hold door and drive to safety, then tie the door with a string to go home. Ford ted britt chantilly service manager refused to fix, and Ford customer service refused to fix. The recall notice is on the internet recall no. 15s16. Notice says all should be replaced, but Ford has refused to replace, saying VIN number is not included.
Vehicle swerved in right rear quarter panel with no wind, air, or other source of pressure on interstate. Tires, especially right rear, spun without movement when clutch engaged in driveway; entire vehicle failed to move or gain traction when clutch fully engaged in friends dirt yard; at odd times, vehicle made noise in right rear axle/wheel area failing to respond to clutch release--most noticeably on concrete pad in front of garage with two mechanics questioning. Returned vehicle to dealer as unsafe to operate with request that it be trashed rather than sold to unsuspecting buyer who might find themselves marooned or wrecked without knowing how or why it happened.
