Rear passenger side door lock opened by itself after parking car and activating the lock button. I pushed door trying to close multiple times and did not close. I opened all doors, started the car and kept trying to close door, did not close back. I was driving with my kids in the rear seat, very unsafe and scary situation. I tied up the door to driver's seat to get home and search online for help. Since then the door does not close at all.
Latch on back door of driver's side unlocked while vehicle was in motion. Stopped vehicle and door would not stay closed. Tied broken door across to door at back of passenger's side. Started vehicle. Latch on back door of passenger's side unlocked while in motion. Second door would not stay closed. Brought car to Ford dealership. Dealer reported that door parts were "defective" and would not be covered under warranty. Had to purchase new door latches and get them installed for $1,000. Major safety issue. I was lucky I had no passengers!!!!! doors unlatched while in motion!.
Passenger rear door latch broke. All I did was unlock the door and now it will not close. Have to have a cord across the back seat to hold it shut! there needs to be a recall on this immediately! I should not have to spend $250 on this defect that Ford screwed up!.
As I was pulling out of the driveway and started driving down the street my front passenger door flew open only to find the door latch to be broken. When the door wont close the lights stay on resulting in a dying battery. Extremely inconvenient and unsafe. This happened again one month later and each time the part was on a national backorder.
Rear passenger door of my 2012 Ford Fiesta will no longer close. The latch appears to be broken, as I can manually manipulate the latch but it does not latch when the door is closed. Luckily the latch broke after I had parked the vehicle, since children were riding in the back seat directly before the latch broke. I now have to keep the door closed via bungee cord. The door simply swings open while driving if the door is not held closed by the bungee cord. I no longer feel safe allowing anyone, especially children, to ride in the back seat of the vehicle since the door is not at all stable.
We have had our Ford Fiesta in on three separate occasions to have the door latch replaced. The door flies open while driving my nephew almost fell out of the car. The just replace it with the same defective parts. The transmission has not shifted properly since we bought it new and the my sync has never worked. This is the worst car we have ever had .
I got into my car this morning, and my dash illuminated that a door was open. The led display stated that my rear passenger door was ajar. I got out of the car and sure enough, my back passenger door was opened. I tried to close it, but the door would simply bounce off the metal frame, never closing. I seat belted the door closed and carefully, and slowly drove to the dealership. I had not opened the back passenger door the previous day. The door would drift open while driving, so I had to keep a firm hold on the seatbelt to keep it from flying open. It was a terrifying experience. I was told by the dealer that the part would not be available for several days. I had to miss work today as my car has been in the dealership all day. I work an hour away and have to travel via highway. I am worried about my safety as well as the safety of drivers around me.
Rear door latch stopped working. Door will not stay shut at all. I have to tie its' handle across the back seat to the opposite door handle.
When driving after making a turn rear driver side door opened up. Had to pull over to check the door, when trying to close the door would bounce back and would not lock. This happened after I had just dropped off my niece at daycare. So glad it did not happen while she was in the car since she was in her car seat on that side. I have to have the door tied with a rope. Took the car to dealership and the one of the service advisors said that since the car was not under warranty anymore I would have to pay $400 in order for the part to be ordered plus labor (my car was not even taken to mechanics to be checked).
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that the rear passenger side door failed to latch. The dealer stated that the rear passenger side door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Shut the door and the latch broke (front right).
Passenger got out when parked, closed door, door did not latch. Door finally latched after multiple attempts. Later tried to investigate problem, looks like cheap plastic door latch has failed. Again got door to latch after multiple attempts. Service appointment made, door will be tied shut enroute. Many complaints, some while vehicle was moving, no manufacturer action. Thanks Ford, does someone have to die before you recall this? a child maybe?.
My right rear door that is hardly ever used will not close due to the latch. I was 200 miles from home and it was labor day weekend so couldn't get to dealership. Had to buy a bungee cord to secure the door from the inside and it still opened slightly going around curves and backseat items almost fell out. My vehicle is a little over 2 years old but due to my job of driving frequently (driving children) I am well past the 36k warranty and will have to pay to fix this. Since I can't afford at the moment the battery needs to be disconnected since the lights stay on and the doors remain unlocked. This clearly needs to be addressed after so many complaints.
I had just closed the right rear door after loading material into the back seat. (this door has maybe been opened 10 times in the life of the car [2. 5 years] as I never have rear seat passengers. ) after leaving a parking lot yesterday and while traveling about 50mph, I noticed the open door warning light on the dash after which I noticed the right rear door was ajar. I stopped the car, opened the door and attempted to shut it again. It bounced back open. I tried fiddling with the latch and closing several times without success. Luckily I had a rope in the trunk so I tied the two rear doors together by the interior handles. I drove to my local Ford dealer and barely had begun to explain my problem when the attendant said she was aware of similar problems. Without looking at the door she told me the parts were on "backorder" leading me to believe the problem is widespread. Thankfully I don't have rear passengers, so I can deal with tied doors, but since I can't lock the car and the dome lights stay on, it is a big problem. She asked me to return in the am and leave the car for them to look at. They would try to make a temp fix while we waited for parts that might take a few weeks so I wouldn't have to disconnect the battery or pull fuses. This morning I left the car at the dealer where it sits as I write this. I found this NHTSA website chronicling similar problems as well as other references to the problem on other web sites. Of 81 total complaints made on this model on this NHTSA web page, 20 are for this exact problem. Those 20 complaints have all been within the most recent 50 complaints and all made in the past 10 weeks. Something is wearing out and it won't be long before a child, pet, suitcase or bag of groceries falls out resulting in death. Don't wait for that to happen. Get this recalled now nationwide!.
We bought the car not even 2 months ago and went to put my kid in his car seat and the rear passenger door wouldn't shut. We had to move him to the driver side and hold the other door locked with the seatbelt in order to get back 30 minutes away from where we live. We have 2 young kids both in carseats and knowing that the door could just open at anytime while kids are riding in the back seat worries me for my kids and others kids who have this car! with so many people complaining the same thing you would think it would have been recalled by now for that reason. What does it take before they finally decide to recall it? something end up happening to someone's son or daughter all because they don't do something about it when they are aware of the situation? the part was even on back order for the same year and car because it happened so often to people with a 2012 Ford Fiesta.
Right rear passenger door will not stay closed/latch. I opened the right, rear passenger door to put my child in his carseat this morning. Upon closing of the door I found that it would not latch. We verified the latch was in the correct position so that the door should close normally. However the door would not stay shut or "click" to latch. I had to ducttape the door closed to take him to daycare. I assume this must be a manufacturing defect. I dropped the car off at the dealership for warranty service this afternoon. I should not have to worry about the doors that protect my children might open at any time for no good reason. I am certain the door has never been abused or closed with excessive force, ever. There is something really wrong here.
On August 8th, the driver's door would not latch. The latch was replaced at the dealer ($450). On September 5th, the front passenger side door stopped latching. We called 5 local dealers before we could find one that had the part as we were told it was on national backorder. When we were able to locate a dealer with the part, we were told that it was reserved for the service department only. If we wanted to be placed on the waiting list to purchase it to have installed elsewhere, we would be #7 on the waiting list. The problem appears identical to the issue that resulted in the escape recall in may: the second case covers about 692,700 escapes. Exterior door handles can bind and stop the door from latching properly. This could allow doors to open while the suvs are in motion.
Drivers side rear door will not latch shut. Keeps popping open. Have to keep back doors shut with bungee cords just to drive vehicle. Have been waiting since August 2nd for a part that is apparently back ordered. Was told by Ford it would be here September 11th, but still have not heard anything yet.
My daughter opened the rear passenger side of the 2012 Ford Fiesta and closed it and it did not close, it bounced back. We spent hours looking on the internet and youtube trying to find away of closing the door. After 4 hours in the sun trying to close the door we were able to shut it by pressing the lock button numerous times. A few days ago I was driving to work and the door opened and almost took off the door. Another time I was driving with family members accidentally opened the door. It took us 2 hours of locking and shutting, eventually we were able to close the door. This has caused a potential safety hazard for my your children and anyone that sits in the back seat. This is some sort of factory defect. Even if the door shuts I can never tell when it will open again and chuck a passenger out on the highway and potentially kill someone.
After driving three miles from home early in the morning, I opened my drivers door and closed to leave, but the door wouldn't close. It bounced open. The latch would not work. I took it to the dealer, they said they'd never seen that before. The latch needed to be replaced. After three days they got the part and fixed it. I picked it up on a Saturday and the next morning the two rear doors broke. Both did the same thing. I took back to the dealer, who said again that he'd never seen anything like it. He told me that he'd have to find out how long it would be to get the parts. This is obviously an issue. The dealer said the parts were on back order from Ford and that it wouldn't be in until the end of August. I asked to have the final front passenger side door replaced as well and he said they couldn't do it unless Ford recalled the parts or it was broken. I explained that this was a huge safety issue and that there was obviously something wrong. I also called Ford, and spoke to their customer service. A manager there said they couldn't have the dealer replace the last door unless it breaks. I guess I should hope that I'm not driving when it does. This needs to be recalled. I have seen a lot of other complaints for the same issue.
While I was driving the back drivers side door flew open. I had just recently put some packages in the back seat and shut the door. To my knowledge the door was closed. It appeared to be anyways. I took it in to berge Ford dealership two days later. They told me I needed a new latch. They said this has been happening so much in the Ford Fiesta's and Ford focus that they have a hard time getting the parts. Apparently, there have been some recalls, but just not on my year of car. They suggested I get assistance from Ford motor CO. So a claim was filed. After calling Ford every day for a week they finally gave me any answer on July 30th. They are going to pay for a new latch, but there hasn't been a recall as yet. My concern, is if that a child was in the backseat an injury or death could have occurred because the door does appear to be closed when shutting it. It is also concerning that this is an ongoing problem with these latches according to not only the dealer, but Ford motor CO. Customer service manager as well.
I opened and shut my passenger door and instead of closing, the door just bounced back and could not be shut. This is the 2nd door on this car to have this problem. The rear passenger door did the same thing about two months prior to this incident.
Back passenger door lock suddenly would not catch. Warranty had expired 3 months ago although mileage only 28000. I took it to 2 dealers. One told me that they have seen at least 70 cars with this problem and that there have been so many that the parts are on back order. At the other dealership the customer service rep told me that he had already seen about 5 in the last month, in fact there was another vehicle there that day with the same issue, only it was a different Ford model. My latch failure was unusual because it failed after the warranty had expired. Most are failing under warranty. One dealership quoted me $600 to fix. The other dealership gave me a break since there was such low mileage and discounted it to $100. I suspect that this lock failure is happening to tens of thousands of cars, but NHTSA is not hearing about it because it is happening under warranty.
When leaving the grocery store, I noticed that the indicator showed that the rear driver door showed open. We tried closing it but it wouldn't close. I drove home while my passenger held the back door closed. On the following Monday, I took the car in to the dealership. After a few hours, they contacted me and said the part was on backorder and that it would be in at the end of the week. I talked to the person on wed. And they said the part was on the truck and would be there on Friday so I made an appt. To bring my car back today. After 5 hours at the dealership, they told me that the part was on backorder until mid-August and that 2 other people brought in the same car today with the same problem.
Rear door latches fail to close both rear doors. They both failed approximately the same time. I now have them tied together from the inside. This is definitely a safety hazard. The dealer said there isn't a recall. They also stated it could take up to 3 weeks to get replacement latches because Ford can't keep up with replacement parts. That tells me there is a problem. Waiting to see if there will be a recall. Ford wants approximately $500 to replace both latches because vehicle is no longer under warranty. I request you contact Ford and have them replace the latches at no cost.
Arrived home after picking up dry cleaning and placing it on back seat, via back driver's side door. Opened door to retrieve clothes, door would not latch shut. Had to have my son sit in back seat and hold door, while I drove to dealership, as the door would swing open when I made a turn. Turns out, car was four days out of warranty, necessitating my paying the full repair cost. By the way, I was told by the service advisor that his wife's Fiesta was in the shop for the same problem and she was three days out of warranty. Part was backordered. He told me Ford is aware that this is a problem, but hasn't made it a recall. Cost me $300+ to fix. Ford needs to step up and cover/reimburse owners!.
The problem, or I should say 'the jam' as in door jamb, is that both side rear passenger doors on my 2012 Ford Fiesta are not working on the close. The doors won't stay closed or stay shut. When you try shutting either door it just bounces back out a little. Neither door will latch closed. Only 35,772 miles on my 2012 Fiesta when both rear passenger side door latches failed within 12 hours of each other. Is both doors failing at the same time just a coincidence? I think not. I think defective and dangerous! my Fiesta has never been involved in an accident, no body damage, no evidence of attempted break-ins and no apparent reason to cause 1, let alone both, rear passenger side door latches to malfunction and prevent closing of the rear side doors. And, absolutely no warning or indication of any looming or pending problem with the operation of either door nor my fingers, hands, wrists or arms? although I do get a bout-of-gout in my knee occasionally. I just opened each door normally to find it broken upon shutting. What I find extremely strange, and at this time still unexplained by anyone, is that both doors failed within 12 hours of each other in exactly the same manor. Seems like too much to be a coincidence, doesn't it. . Read more...
June 22nd 2014 , my son's friend was getting out of the car and closed the rear passenger's door and it would no longer latch. I had to ratchet the 2 rear doors together to hold it shut. Repair cost was $300. 00. Second incident was September 20th 2014, my son and I was at a family reunion 300 miles away from home, as we were leaving,he shut his front passenger door and it did not close, the door would not latch. I still had the ratchet in the car from the first failed door latch, so he rode in the back while I held the door shut ratcheted together to the front driver door. I have to get together the $300. 00 to replace this failed latch. My question is that if the original parts for the doors failed, will the replacements do the same thing? I am thankful that my son and his friend was not injured, but maybe that is what they are waiting on before they fix this problem.
