I was driving my vehicle at appx. 15 mph when the front passenger door opened on its own. I pulled over and tried to close the door; the door failed to latch or close again. I had to keep it closed with a bungee cord and drive to the dealership. I paid $450 for the repair. I am posting this now, after doing some research; because the same thing the happened the my rear passenger door. Now I will have to bungee that closed and drive, once again, to the dealership to pay another $450 for something that should be recalled. Please recall ASAP.
The passenger rear door was opened using the outside door handle. After trying to close the door, it would not close and kept bouncing open. After inspecting the latch, it was found out that it was not in the closed or latched position. The "plastic" latch was in the open position and when it was placed into the closed or latched position, it would not latch and just pop open. If this "plastic" latch would have broken while the car was moving one of my children could have fallen out of the moving vehicle. A "plastic" door latch on a "metal" catch is a safety violation. Plastic striking metal every time the door is open and closed is not very Smart because the plastic will always break, as it has in my vehicle.

Six months ago I had been to the dealers for a failed door latch on my rear passenger door and lightning struck again. I was beginning to feel like a pro. Went to the store and loaded the front seat this time with groceries and went to close it and it just bounced back. In a way I was grateful because I knew what was wrong but at the same time I was like are you kidding? I was in a location where I could retrieve a bungee cord from my place of business and luckily it was a Saturday and Ford was still open so I took it in and they could lock it up until Monday. They overnighted a part from another dealer and were able to install it late Tuesday night but as it so happened putting the latch and door back together, the right side window handle regulator broke and they hand to replace it. I ended up getting my car back on Thursday. So in a matter of six months I had two broken door latches on two different doors. I was grateful to be close to a Ford dealer but it concerns me for those who are not and those who might be traveling far distances and this happens. It concerned me that it all the warranties that my new car has and still has that this incident was not considered a safety concern that they would have paid for a rental car. Only reason they paid for it was because I called and raised a kerfuffle and pointed out the security and safety concerns and it actually had to be assigned a whole case number. Even after all of this I receive a notice in the mail about a warranty extension on mypower shift 6speed automatic transmission for excessive transmission clutch shudder caused by fluid contamination of the clutch due to leaking transmission seals. After all of this I will never buy a Ford again!!.
Trying to close my passenger rear door, the door would not close. Thinking there was something ajar tried to maneuver items in the backseat but investigating closely the door latch, it was just in a stationary position. I had a lanyard from work that I cut to make a long string to use as a rope to get me to my house and borrowed a bungee cord from my apartment complex to drive the few miles to the Ford dealership. This was a Friday and when I called they almost tried telling me there wasn't much they could seeing it was a Friday afternoon. I let them have an earful telling them this was a security and safety issue and I have no way of locking my car or securing my car bc of a faulty door. It would be just sitting outside bc I have no garage or a way to even close the door. And even after that they were expecting me to pay for a rental! well bottom line is I didn't have to pay for a rental.
Rear passenger door latch assembly total failure through normal use. Unable to close & secure door. Vehicle structural integrity compromised, extreme safety exposure to vehicle's occupants. Manufacturer (Ford) declined responsibility to remediate problem due to accumulated mileage beyond warranty (36,000 miles). Ford dealer used "bungee" cords to hold door closed. Ford customer representative encouraged filing compliant with NHTSA saying. . . "go for it".
Closed rear passenger door after putting a bag in the car. Started to back out of parking spot when dash display said "door open. " pulled door closed. . . Same thing. Got out. Door latch had completely failed. I now have door bungied closed for three weeks. Contacted Ford and was contacted by local dealer. That was two weeks ago. Called back on Aug. 23, they know nothing or have done nothing. Major safety issue. Cannot use back seat for passengers at all.
The front passenger door to my 2012 Ford Fiesta sel suddenly opened on it's own while my vehicle was traveling approximately 35 miles on a curb. After pulling over to inspect, I found I could not close the door any longer. I have found numerous other complaints over the internet as well as this page on the department of transportation website and I am requesting further investigation into this matter as it doesn't seem to be an isolated issue. Car doors flying open at random while driving are cause for concern. After taking my vehicle to the Ford dealership, they wanted over $500. 00 for a small part and less than an hours work since my it was past my 48,000 warranty by about 200 miles.
1) fuel leaked unto the ground under the car. . 2) while driving when I reached 60 mph to front end of the car started shaking. . 3) door panel fell apart.
