1 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 03/21/2021

Purchased used on March 2021 dealership somehow made it drive perfect until I drove it for 2 days. Then noticed engine shifting issues, loss of transmission engagement while driving, no-start, or a lack of power. Idles very rough in parked position- spitting and sputtering. Vehicle stalling, losing power while driving, rpms at 4 while on highway @ 65-70 mph as if it never changed out of 2nd or 3rd gear. Called Ford and had the tcm updated April 2021 at gabriel Ford dealership, livingston texas. The update did not help and I was told that I needed to ?drive it like I stole it? but that makes the power-train issues worse. Ford dealership pointed me to NHTSA to write a complaint. As of may 15, 2021 it doesn't matter if its on highway, local in town, low mph or 65 mph the transmission continues to jerk, lose power, sputter, after updating the check engine warning light never came on when transmission issues happened. Vehicle jerking. After driving about 20 miles with rpms at 4 stopping at a light then trying to accelerate the vehicle sputtered and would not gain acceleration, very slow to gain acceleration. Loss of acceleration power will cut out & car will buck & sputter, also makes a grinding or noise then stopped. It's almost caused accidents with my children in the car!. Rpm revs up really high but the speed doesn?t change. At a red light my car began acting funny when the light turned green the car was hesitant to go it was having trouble shifting and accelerating the check engine light never came on. This vehicle power train transmission is faulty and very dangerous. Highway or street driving, in traffic, presenting a dangerous driving hazard. Current mileage @144,000.

3 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 04/30/2016

Hesitation, jerking and clutch grinding noises. Went to make a left hand turn and my car hesitated on acceleration causing a near fatal accident from an on coming car. Luckily the oncoming car was able to slow down enough to avoid hitting my passenger side where my daughter was sitting. I have been experiencing hesitation, severe jerking and grinding of the clutch the entire weekend.

4 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2014 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

See attached statement word document for full details. I have owned this car for two years now, I purchased it in December of 2014. At the time I was commuting 120 miles daily to support a project. I was very early on the car began to jerk and shake. I retuned it first for a defective tire, defective backup sensor and unsafe transmission functionality. Kings Ford (cincinnati OH) replaced the tire (I had to pay for the tire), replaced the backup sensor (warranty) and ¿reset/updated¿ the transmission controls firmware. After this, I retuned the vehicle multiply times for unsafe transmission functionality. After about two more times of kings Ford ¿resetting/updating¿ the transmission controls firmware they finally replaced the clutches. This was at 20,000 miles. Since then I have taken the car to kings Ford two more times for unsafe transmission functionality. Each time they ¿reset/updated¿ the transmission controls firmware. Yesterday, I called Ford roadside to pickup the car and return it to kings Ford due to unsafe transmission functionality. Also, I have another faulty tire and the air handing actuators in the dash are making grinding sounds. I have had multiply near accidents due to the vehicles unsafe transmission functionality. The vehicle has disabled itself in high speed interstate traffic. I had navigate the car from the fast lane to the right shoulder without any available power. I narrowly missed a set of large commercial trucks! once at the side of the road, I had to cycle the ignition before the car would respond to accelerator inputs. There have been multiply other instances where the car fails to accelerate correctly when merging into traffic¿nearly being rear ended, certainly leading to a few road rage incidents.

5 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

Issues with car weak performance, car shuddering, grinding noises in engine, stalling when brake is pressed while in drive gear, car lunging forward and not wanting to engage, not wanting to go after a complete stop, not engaging in reverse, and engine light coming on randomly. Almost rear ended by a car behind me came to a screeching stop because of the hesitation to engage in first gear. Took the car to a Ford dealer and was told that I would have to pay a diagnosis fee. Because if it did not test at a certain level of performance the dealer would not pay for the testing or repair. I stated I had a customer satisfaction program 12mo1 letter for the clutch assembly and they said it did not matter. I left the dealer very upset and dissatisfied. Drove the car and the symptoms worsened. I got into my car one day and the car would not engage in reverse. Luckily on was parked on an incline and coasted out of the parking spot. Drove the car to the dealer and they did not have the new clutch assembly in stock. I then asked for a rental until the car was repaired because I felt it was very unsafe to drive my daughter in with the problems it was having, I was told no. So I was forced to drive this car with these problems for a week until the Ford dealer received the new clutch assembly. This car is a very dangerous vehicle to have on the road not only for those driving the vehicle but also for those car that drive behind these cars. Ford absolutely knows they have a major issue with the dual clutch system. Regular clutches are controlled hydraulically but these dual clutches are control electronically by the tcm which has a customer satisfaction program 14m01 that Ford has sent out. Between the leaking transmissions seal corrupting the clutch and the tcm failing that controls the clutch that is a double jeopardy situation. This is a very dangerous car to have on the roads.

6 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

After 13 days of owning the car, the car began to make grinding noises and would shudder when shifting in low gears. The noise and shuddering was so bad that I was afraid to drive the car. Took to dealership and clutch is needing replacement. According to www, this is a very common problem and often progresses to the car suddenly accelerating. This is a dangerous issue and should be treated as such. I find it appalling there has yet to be a recall. . .

7 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

I had just bought this car four days prior to the incident. I was accelerating from a stopped position (stop light). It seemed as though my car *skipped* and *jerked* a little in order to gain momentum. Then, when I turned a corner, I heard a slight rattling/grinding noise coming from underneath the hood, especially on the left side. I called the dealer's (mike castrucci in alexandria, ky) service dept to report the problem and schedule an appointment. I was told that they're so backed up, the first available appointment is on 2/18/15. The lady I spoke to mentioned that my car is part of a recall, and that the clutch assembly needs to be replaced. She said something about the manufacturer being unable to build the parts fast enough. I've now had the car ten days. On the eighth day, the *service engine* light came on and has not turned off. Because of this, the dealer has given me an appointment on 12/10/15 to have it checked out. One of the salesmen that I interacted with on the evening of the sale, said it's probably related to the transmission problem.

8 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the engine rpms increased. The contact heard a grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice, but the failure was unable to be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000. Updated 01/28/lj.

9 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I purchased a Ford Fiesta 2011 in July 2014. Within a few weeks I noticed problems with the car jerking and hesitating and lurching forward but as a check engine light was on, I assumed it was because of the faulty catalytic converter, which was later replaced in Sep 2014. Still, the grinding noise, jerks and hesitation continued. I travel on the garden state parkway which is always heavily congested during peak hours and the car jerking forward put me at risk for an accident. Also, the brakes sometimes acted too slow but I don't know if this is a result of the transmission issues or not. It wasn't until earlier last month that I read about the inherent design flaw in the transmission. Currently, my car is at the dealership awaiting repairs to the transmission.

10 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2014 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

My car does not always go when the gas is hit. When you go to pull out while stopped at a red light or stop sign, the car acts like it is stalling out, shakes, makes grinding noise in the engine. Has been in the shop for the issues. I've had the dual clutch replaced and module reprogrammed a few times. I was told numerous times by the Ford tech, that the shuttering is normal for this type of vehicle. This is not normal. I had other people drive my car and they also agree that it shouldn't drive how it does. I have to avoid steep hills because the acceleration doesn't always work.

11 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

The car makes a terrible grinding sound. I noticed it stutter at take off and took it to the dealership. The service manager said the clutch had to be replaced, a common issue with the Ford Fiesta. After the clutch was replaced, the grinding sound remained. Even with a new clutch, the car makes me nervous. Needless to say, dissatisfied with this service department, I described the grinding sound to a service manager at another dealership. He told me the grinding is normal and that there's nothing that can be done. So I started reading around and literally thousands of Fiesta owners are experiencing the same thing. And we are being told the same thing: it's normal, fixing the clutch won't solve the problem, replacing the transmission won't solve the problem. It's as if Ford is trying to run out the clock on the 60,000 mile full warranty. At this time, I want to take my Fiesta to someone but don't have any recourse since Ford dealerships are being told to tell Fiesta owners that "it's normal, there's nothing that can be done. ".

12 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

Ford Fiesta 2013 (automatic transmission) - started car. Put car in reverse. Car did not reverse and there were rattling and grinding sounds coming from transmission. Restarted car. Car reversed. However, once car was put into drive the transmission was rattling and grinding again. Once I tried to accelerate, the car lurched forward, stopped and lurched forward again. The acceleration was not smooth, it felt like the car might stall. The engine noises were loud and not typical. Until I reached 45 miles per hour, the engine did not quiet down. Driving in traffic was terrible. I had to leave extra room to stop as I did not trust the car to downshift properly. I had to leave extra room to accelerate because I could not predict if the car would go at all or accelerate at an unpredictable speed because the transmission was not trustworthy and the clutch kept slipping. Overall, the Fiesta's transmission issue has to do with the vehicle's design, and this is not an isolated incident. From 20,000 miles on, I have taken the car in twice to try and fix this defect and it continues to exist. I currently do not have the car as it is at the dealership and has been for 24 days and counting. They can't seem to fix the defects and this transmission design should be investigated. I am currently working with the bbb autoline to try and resolve this issue.

13 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

Within the first year of owning this car, the transmission started displaying signs of defectiveness. It began exhibiting a grinding noise when in low gears. As mileage increased (~12,000 mi), it started not shifting properly with either hesitation, skipping or jolting forward. Now (~25,000mi), the vehicle is shuttering and vibrating in low gears (1 & 2). In other words, I feel like I have no control over my vehicle and both myself and others on the road are in danger. I have brought my car in three times for the same problem. It has been reprogrammed twice with the pcm and tcm updated. The problem has been occurring for 1. 5 years without any potential to be resolved. I would have brought my car in to get serviced additional times, but I was told by the service technician that there is nothing else they can do but run tests on the transmission, that will result in the same outcome. My transmission apparently "runs within spec" but there is something wrong and this problem should be a concern to all drivers, not just owners of Ford Fiesta's or focus', as they are endangered just being on the road with said vehicles. When driving my Ford Fiesta, I fear that I am going to rear end someone or get stuck in an intersection because I am no longer in control of my cars acceleration.

14 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

I purchased the vehicle used in February of 2014. A couple of days after having the vehicle it started to make loud grinding noises, when I tried to accelerate it would sputter and almost stall. I took it in on March 05, 2014 and the dealership had it for a week. When I picked it up, I was told that they could not find anything wrong with it and the grinding was "normal". The grinding noises, the sputtering, the slow acceleration, and other issues are still happening with this vehicle. When I call to see if I can take it in, I am told that this is normal for this vehicle. These 'normal' attributes should be disclosed prior to purchasing the vehicle. When I am at a stop and I start to accelerate, the car does not accelerate and it lunges and it has caused me to almost get rear-ended on more than one occasion. There has been a couple of times where I am driving on the highway at a steady speed and when I try to accelerate, it does not accelerate and the rpms just shoot up. The transmission of this vehicle has too many bugs in it and it is causing a safety concern. If I would have known that these things were 'normal' prior to purchasing the vehicle, I never would have bought it. Something needs to be done about this. I have seen numerous complaints that are very similar to mine and it truly is a safety concern that needs to be addressed.

15 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 11/09/2013

From a stop sign making a right turn onto a highway my 2013 Ford Fiesta now decides to make loud grinding noises from the 6 speed auto transmission when accelerate to normal highway speed hesitates and almost was rear ended from the vehicle behind me had to quickly pull to the right of the road before merging back on the highway . Have taken to the dealer three times for unusual transmission slippage, and noises waiting on a back order dual clutch kit part ,1700 hundred on back order was told may take up to 6 months for this part to arrive.

16 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, she noticed a loud grinding and growling noise upon acceleration . The vehicle also jerked forward at different speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three different times where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was nor repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 1,300.

17 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Transmission issues since purchasing the car brand new in 2013. Car jerks and accelerates sporadically. When taking off from a stop the car does not respond to pushing on the gas, but will then suddenly take off. It moves through the gears in a clunky manner. Makes grinding noises upon acceleration. The car rolls back on hills. I do not feel safe driving this car. Ford have no responded in a helpful manner to my enquires and appear not to be able to fix the problem.

18 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

As I accelerated, the gears began making a grinding noise. This cause the entire vehicle to vibrate and shake uncontrollably. This occurs 80% of the time when I press on the accelerator and start accelerating. Also, when I try to drive the vehicle at slower speeds between 30-45 mph, the gears grind constantly and the vehicle will sometimes vibrate uncontrollably. When I first got the vehicle, it was very minimal vibration and/or gear grinding. I have had the vehicle almost 2 years now and it now has 40k miles on it. The grinding noise is now very very loud and the vehicle shakes even worse than before when accelerating. If I had the rate the vibrations/shaking of the vehicle out of 10, I would rate it a 9. When I first took it to the dealer I bought it from back in April 2012, I was told that this was the way the vehicle drives because of the type of engine/transmission. I was told the vehicle has a manual transmission and the gears are shifted by a computer. So, I took their statement at face value. Now, after owning the vehicle for almost 2 years, I have been doing a lot of research and finding that several other owners are experiencing this problem. This, I believe, is definitely a safety issue because the vehicle is not performing properly and it vibrates so strongly that the entire vehicle shakes and in my opinion, this could cause loss of control of the vehicle.

19 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 09/30/2011

Makes loud grinding sound and seems like the car is about to stall while driving. The car also seems to stall when driving from a full stop. Transmission fluid leaks.
