Electrical System Problems of Ford Five Hundred - part 1

I am having problem with the reset button in my 2005 Five Hundred Ford, the oil light stays on after oil changes, no one does not know how to reset, the reset button does not work, several mechanic told me not to worry about it , but the car can't pass the smog, it reads not ready, they told my to take a ride for about 50 miles and drive up to sixty miles per hour. . On going problem and I am running out of money, can you help, please.

The engine keep going into limp mode. The car stalls out while at lights an stop signs, power steering goes out on highway an other roads making it impossible to steer or steer out of others ways, limp mode causes car to not be able to keep up with traffic on highway and other roads. Engine jerks forward an shifts irractically an shifts an downshifts hard.

When I’m the vehicle and the temperature reaches middle temp ,the car starts to beep and all the dashboard lights go completely out and the head lights and tail lights be blinking as if they are about to go off . Even when I have the heater or a/c on they turns off and I’m a afraid that if or when I’m on the highway all my lights will just stop working on the middle of the highway at night and no one will be able to see me. And that will cause a big wreck and maybe kill myself or worst someone else. I have looked my car up to see if it has a recall but none are given. I’m afraid for the safety of my fellow drivers on the at night . And I don’t know what to do about this problem.

I was at red light person crossing road I was I. Drive foot on brake, rpms shot up engine reeves cat lunged forward I pressed harder in brake almost hit person. At the time no warning lights. Then at pharmacy drive thru w car I. From and I. Back of me car did same thing. I had to press brake hard to prevent moving hitting car in from of me. I was in drive but foot on brake! no warning lights at time. Had throttle body replaced still had similar problems progressing little did I know when throttle body is replaced has to be reprogrammed by Ford! spent so much money and time trying to figure out problem. This is a flaw w Ford 500 2005 throttle body many complaints and test does never issues recall, unsafe. I could have killed someone.

Battery just goes dead over night. Signal lights melted and quit working. Cluster panel just shuts off while running and can't use air, radio, windows, locks, seats, etc. Car shuts off while driving down the road. Have replaced all parts suggested by codes. Still no fix. Wont shift from first gear after cluster panel shuts off. There are hundreds other complaints. This is dangerous and should be an electrical recall. Happens running driving and sitting still.

I purchased the car used with the understanding that it had some issues with a misfire. Upon initial inspection I fount the car was throwing the code p0351 I cleared all faults and problem went away weks went by and problem started again but more sever during normal operation the car started shaking and shifting erratic I then came upon some k formation as to a recall Ford put in place stating improper calibration of pcm and tcm cause unnecessary interaction I the electrical system and malfunction of the vehicle.

I had this car repaired twice at a professional mechanic shop that cost me thousands of dollars. Every time, the car comes to stop or dies on me. I replaced the fuel filter one time that is underneath the car. Now the car is sitting in my garage because of the fuel pump not functioning and does not make that sound anymore when you turn the key on.

I was driving my car it started to shake very hard well I heard a snap sound and my car started to drag I got out my frame above my right lower control had snapped ive read that many other people are having the same problem I contactes Ford about the issue and they said there is nothing they can do well I'm out of a vehicle but vefore all of this I kept going through fuel relay issues and eventually started losing my instrument cluster so now I'm fighting with them to do the repairs.

It began with the 12 volt not working. Put in new fuse it blew. Then instrument panel speedometer goes black, if you got the dash it comes back on the battery got completely drained bought a new one. Still have a short somewhere . Noticed a million other complaints the same should this not be investigated? a sodering defect or electrical short draining battery, it's obviously a vehicle defect. Isn't Ford a big enough company to take care of this instead of ignoring it? this is on a 2007 Ford 500, low miles. This happens sitting still or driving.

My 2006 Ford Five Hundred is surging there's no power it stumbles shuts off.

Instrument panel shuts off intermittently. Days lights flicker.

Car will be driveing 55 and completely shut off. Lossing everything including powerstearing. Have to put in neutral n coast to side of the road, sometimes will restart, others it wont. Also will start bucking and shut off. I can be doing 10mph n go to turn a corner n it shuts off. Can seem to run fine, be in the middle of an intersection and the car shut off and wouldnt restar good thing I can drive and knew what to do or I would have crashed numerous times. Have changed the throttle body and accelerator, n both sensors. Did not fix problem. Now saying it's the pcm shutting the car off.

Pulled in drop off a donation at a second hand store. I put it in park and turned off the vehicle; opened the trunk; and looked up startled when a guy sitting nearby said that my car was smoking and on fire (about 10 seconds since I switched the car off and got out). He was on the right, so I moved around the car to the right looking towards the engine. An employee of the store that was on the back, left side of the car pointed towards and said, �look! your side mirror is on fire!� I then saw the smoke billowing to the left (a strong afternoon breeze was blowing north). I came around and peered in behind the actual �mirror� part; the fire had just gone out. Looking at it, I could see it was the security light on the bottom side of the mirror; it was completely melted and fused to the mirror housing- a bubbly mess of plastic. It smelled of acrid, melted plastic and burned electronics. The underside of the mirror had caught fire and started burning for a bit before the fuse finally blew. I am so glad my baby and kindergartener weren't in the car at this time! they usually are. The length of time of time it took for the fuse to finally blow is quite alarming! it could have resulted in the rapid spread of a fire that would quickly overtake the vehicle. What if I was at a gas station when this happened when their happened to be some petrol-vapor present. My next stop was to get two propane tanks filled. They have to bleed off a certain amount of propane each time when finished filling a tank. It isn't far fetched that this electrical issue with failed safeguards could have resulted in far more injury than my slightly burned fingers. This needs to be investigated immediately before something terrible happens to someone. This is a fantastic car! we love it. This is probably an easy fix, but if it isn't fixed, much worse could happen!.

Gauges drop check engine light comes on then wrench light then one shaped like a car n starts loosen power.

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Ford Five Hundred. After placing fuel in the vehicle, white smoke emerged from the engine compartment. The contact opened the hood and flames emerged from the engine and the smoke turned black. The fire department extinguished the fire; however, the fire erupted again and would not stop until the battery was disconnected. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 250,000.

Door froze shut and ever since manually opening the message center states driver door ajar and passenger door ajar and they are not. But I can't reset driver controls until doors show closed. Have run code in my car and only code is p0193 fuel rail pressure sensor. No codes for doors.

Since I bought my car in 2007 I am on my 4th battery. The battery will just die and stop holding a charge. The dealer cannot figure out what is causing the battery to drain. Every time the charge it, the car just drains it. The batteries on overage only last around 2 years. When I go up and down steep hills my check battery light comes on, but once on level the light goes out. My car is fine and then I go to start the car it won't start. No warning what so ever. The check battery light never even come on. Unless of course while I am driving up or down a steep hill. I live in spokane washington, but I had to have the battery replaced once while I was on vacation in montana. Something has to be draining the battery but we cannot figure out what it is.

I will never buy another Ford vehicle ever again!!!!!! I own a 2005 Ford Five Hundred there was a recall in 2012 on the throttle body, a Ford dealer supposably cleaned the throttle body, well now its not driveable. We have since talked to several Ford dealers including Ford motor company , they all said it was our responsibility to fix the problem. I do not think it should be my responsibility to pay for this since the part was recalled !!! the car could stall at anytime while driving putting myself and my family at risk, I don't think much of this automobile company for not standing behind there product, I will never recommend a Ford vehicle to friends,family or even my worst enemy never never again!!!!.

I dont feel safe driving my car I put 2000 dollars of work and still do not feel save.

The transmission disengages at various speeds even on the interstate at 55+ mph causing it to lose power. You must be able to get it stopped on the side of the road and shut the car off and then restart it to correct the problem for a short period of time.

Instrument cluster not working. Oil and brake light illuminate constantly. Reverse lights and brake lights constantly on on the exterior of the vehichle. Cruise does not work. Blinkers do not work. Starts doing this as soon as the car is started. Started while going down the expressway now constant.

While driving one day, my cluster panel went dark. At first I thought it may be the battery, which would also cause the car to die. However, the car was still running. When I drove it to my mechanic, it did the same thing but began flickering on and off the whole way there. Not only was it annoying, but I could not see my speed nor my gas gauge. Additionally, when I tried to use my emergency lights, they would also go off whenever the panel went out. The repair of the whole cluster panel is not cheap. An estimate for me was $900 from my mechanic. Since it will have to be programmed however, I will have to take it to Ford which is a pain in itself. There are countless reviews on this problem, it should not be left up to the consumer to take on such a significant expense. My car has roughly 62,000 miles on it.

While driving dash lights, speedometer, tachometer, gas level, and temperature go out for several minutes at a time. Reverse lights come on and airbag light comes on. This is dangerous; unable to tell speed! per internet research this is happening in several Ford models and stems from a bad solder joint.

I was driving in town going about 40 mph when the car lost all power, then engine failsafe mode displayed on the information center and a little wrench was also displayed. With no power steering, I had to pull over quickly in lunchtime traffic. After stopping the car, I waited a few seconds and restarted it. No problems with it until the next day when the check engine light came on. I have also noticed a mechanical smell coming from the ac. It appeared, at first, that this problem had come out of nowhere when I suddenly remembered two occasions when the rpms suddenly stuck on 3000 and would not stop until I put the car in neutral. Also, when using cruise control, the whole car shakes and stutters slightly when going up or down very slight inclines.

On a trip south on an interstate, my car overheated. There was bumper to bumper traffic on a hot day. I had my air conditioner on and we were only traveling at 5-10 mph. A service station diagnosed the problem and found an electrical short in a computer module which controls the radiator fan. This problem resulted in a $700 repair bill.

When I first start my car its slow to give power, often when I drive it on the street itll just lose complete power and die down. Then I have to restart itfor it to temporaily go away then it happens again.

While driving approximately 40 mph, all of the gauges on the instrument cluster stopped functioning and displayed readings of zero. Continued to drive and the instrument cluster began working a few moments later. The failure occurred intermittently while driving at any speed. When this happens the reverse lights come on even when in drive. This, as well as no speedometer to me is very dangerous. I think corrective action should be taken towards a resolution. There are countless others who have filed complaints and concerns regarding this very issue. Please issue a recall on the instrument panel replacement. I feel the cost of replacement (as well as a diagnosis fee) should not be absorbed by the consumer for something that is not normal maintenance for the vehicle!.

Only had the car for five months driving doen the street the check engine light came out car stopped in the middle of the street with my children in it and wouldn't start up. . Worst car ive ever bought second major incident that has happend since I got yhe car. It should be a recall major safety violation.

Part of an ongoing series of issues with this vehicle (see earlier reports), initial symptom was the dash lights & needles shutting off intermittently (but now for extended periods). Vehicle then began showing random warning lights including "check engine", which was diagnosed first time as low fuel level sensors a & b. Since that time I'd disconnected the battery on a suggestion of a mechanic friend and all the issues disappeared for a few weeks. Yesterday the check engine light came back, and the car was running poorly (creeping when first off brakes, not up shifting), when the dash was operable it showed alternating check engine/check transmission warnings, and vehicle was surging/lagging noticeably at highway speeds. I again did the battery disconnect last night, and the car is operating normal today, but I'm sure it will recur shortly. I am hesitant to take it to a dealer as this sounds like a significant electronics issue, and I have already read up on the Ford TSB 06-17-9 that is documented online, not all of which aligns with my issues. Had the battery reset had no impact on the problems I would say it's a mechanical matter, but it seems clear its a computer or electrical issue.

Instrument cluster intermittently went dark and/or gauges went to zero/off positions, we pulled over to see if exterior lights worked and all did, as well as blinkers and flashers, but we noted that reverse lights were now on. It has recurred a few times, its most noticeable after dark as dash lights go black. Only light on dash was the airbag light. I went online & found info on a technical service bulletin "TSB 06-17-9 09/04/06 - intermittent instrument cluster", it does not appear to be a recall item so assuming any repairs are entirely owner cost ?.

Cpsc: i1390188a. 2006 Ford Five Hundred. Consumer stated the left front head light caught on fire spontaneously while having been parked for 30 minutes in the garage and engine was off. The fire destroyed the left front engine area. The vehicle was totaled by the insurance company.
