39 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

At times when placing car into reverse or drive it will lurch forward. When going up any hill and the 6 speed transmission needs to down shift, it seems that it pops into neutral and then pops into lower gear causing the car to jerk very hard. . The jerking can be so hard that I am scared that its going to break the motor mounts or the drive axles. This happens every time I am going up a hill or trying to pass someone on the interstate on flat land. Had to replace the low beam headlight sockets due to them overheating and melting the socket and causing the bulbs to stop working. The driver side window, when trying to bring it up it will stop and go back down. Sometimes it will do it a couple times before I can get the window all the way up. This is my first Ford I have ever owned and I am love with the car but not with the problems I am having with the car. Also, when the car hit 100,000 miles it started to burn 1 quart of oil between oil changes. I cannot find any leaks. I have see a lot of people having the same issues I am having with the lurching and jerking of the transmission. Wish Ford would do a real call for these problems because I just love this car!.

40 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

This Ford 500, like thousands of others I see after researching this issue, has a lunging problem. . . . I must depress the break pedal fully in order to keep this car from jumping out of the garage. We had a near miss with a pedestrian walking their dog. We now back into the garage as to have full view of our sidewalk. This is a horrible wide spread problem with these vehicles. The proof is all over the internet. What is Ford waiting for? I have several payments on a car that has an extremely dangerous defect ask any other Ford Five Hundred owner. What is the answer to this problem? it is a major safety issue!!.

50 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 02/06/2013

My 2007 Ford Five Hundred is acting up. When you put it in reverse or drive it revs up and jumps. I have to make sure I have my foot firmly on the brake so it doesn't cause a serious accident. Now it is starting to rev up and jump when im sitting at a stop sign. This past Friday I was sitting at a stop sign and it revved up and jumped and almost caused me to rearend a car in front of me. Is there a recall on this problem. I really need this fixed before it gets worse and it kills me or I kill someone else. When you are sitting with the car in gear with the air conditioner off the rpm needle will move without giving it any gas. It should not do this. Please help me and let me know if their is a recall on something that could cause this problem.

51 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Vehicle surges for no particular reason and shows. A check engine light on (wrench). Control of acceleration is mixed and vehicle either lurches or feels as though transmission is in neutral and rpm's increase without acceleration by driver. Have a scheduled service call with Ford and have been issued a notice from Ford that this issue will be covered.

53 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 01/20/2013

When put into drive or reverse the whole car lurches forward and could cause an accident if you are not carefully. This seems to be a very common problem. Going to take it to the dealership and see what they say is wrong. But this should definatley be looked into by Ford before someone gets hurt or killed.

54 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Out side air temp was approx 96 degrees so ac was on . While shifting into reverse the vehicle lunged so hard it was uncontrollable, and unstoppable, if some one had stepped out behind me they would have died as I could only stop reward movement by shifting into drive. This occurred three times trying to get out of a parking space at a crowded mall. The vehicle then stalled. The lunging was so fast the brakes could hardly hold the car from moving in reverse. In checking there is a service bulletin TSB-05-25-13 from Ford motor company on this very issue but no recall, also many incidents/accidents recorded in this regard. If I was not prepared enough during this incident in a crowded parking lot some one would have died, this must be addressed b-4 someone is run over. Currently Ford has no comment. Please contact me for further details.

55 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

On hot days, when backing out of parking spaces, the car has sometimes "surged" meaning that there has been unintended acceleration without the accelerator being pressed at all. I have had to suddenly and firmly put my foot on the brake to prevent the car from hitting other vehicles. This has happened on several occasions in August of 2012. I own a 2006 Ford Five Hundred also and it has had the same problem in the same conditions (filing separate complaint).

56 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

On hot summer days and only on hot summer days when stopped at light or stopped period car begins to surge forward while holding brake. Went asked Ford why is this happening they said they don't know. That I should get the throttle body and mass air flow sensor serviced if not done already. I guess it had to be done at 90k but I did not know. Well I did what they said, went home and car is now idling rough went back and they want to charge me another $90 dollars ontop of the $105 they have already charged me for the throttle and mafs. I have almost gotten in numerous accidents because of this but Ford doesn't want to acknowledge that this is a problem with this car.

57 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 08/03/2012

Car accelerates when air conditioning is on (more so when turning wheel) whether in drive or reverse. Already had accident in reverse. Noted several complains about this from owners on google. Almost had another accident in jack in the box drive thru where car accelerated unexpectedly. Missed car in front of me by inches. Had foot on brake, car was in drive but not moving when this happen. Acceleration over powered brake pressure. Very, very scary. Please help. Otherwise love car. Please contact my cousin. See below.

58 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

In multiple incidents, on hot summer days, the car has suddenly accelerated (with no foot on the accelerator) when backing out of parking spaces and sometimes when put into drive right after the sudden acceleration in reverse. It has required rapid, firm braking to prevent the car from hitting other vehicles. About a week after the problem started with this car, it started to happen occasionally with my other Ford Five Hundred (a 2005 model with a little less mileage). A separate complaint has been filed on that vehicle. Research online has revealed that hundreds of Ford Five Hundred owners have reported this issue and that the throttle body is the likely culprit.

59 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

When after starting car and gear shift put into either drive or reverse the engine will surge causing car to lunge. If not aware of issue and have foot on brake would hit what ever in the way of car. The same thing happens when pulling into or out of parking space. I had my car fixed at a Ford dealer and then contacted Ford motor about the problem and they don't seem to take the issue seriously. According to my Ford dealer the problem is in the throttle body. I went out on the internet and found other Ford 500 owners reporting the same thing. The big problem is that it doesn't happen all of the time. The main reason for this compliant is that Ford doesn't want to acknowledge they have a problem.

60 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 07/26/2012

So here I am another victim of a faulty throttle body. Thanks Ford I love when my car takes off on me without notice, especially when you have kids in the car. How many of these do I have to read before action is taken. Does it take a death or serious accident. Cost me 718 dollars I expect a recall soon and my money back I will not quit until this is taken care of. It's sad when you go to a mechanic and they say "wow there is still not a recall on this". Oh by the way it is such a common problem I diagnosed my own car issue in 5 minutes by using google and typing failsafe engine mode.

61 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 07/24/2012

We were driving down a highway and went to get back to speed after passing through a speed zone. I noticed a decrease in power and looked at the information screen. The fail safe mode and the "wrench" icon was on. I pulled the car over and turned it off. I then turned it on and the car acted normal. It has happened twice since the first incident. My wife took it to the dealership and Ford cannot duplicate the problem and the issue does not throw a check engine code or leaves any type of electronic history of the issue. I cannot allow my wife to drive this car because she is seven month pregnant and cannot have her drive it if the car breaks down due to this issue.

62 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

63 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 07/15/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the power train wrench icon illuminated. The contact was able to shut off and restart the vehicle in order to operate normally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body sensor failed, sending the vehicle into "limp mode", and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted on several occasions. The contact mentioned that the electronic throttle body sensor was replaced twice. The vehicle recently went into "limp mode" again. The dealer performed a diagnostic test, but a failure code could not be found. The vehicle was also test driven, but the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

64 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 07/05/2012

Car surges on its own, after putting it into gear.

65 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

I was turning on to a road and when I went to accelerate the engine just revved up like it was in neutral. I have had this car in to bob boyd Ford 2 times because the transmission jerks but they have told me there is nothing wrong with the transmission. The first time I had it in there for the jerking they said it was the computer and it needed reset. I have done research on the internet and found other people having the same problems as me and I don't understand why this problem has not gotten a recall issued for these cars. I am going to take it in one more time but if they tell me there is nothing wrong again I will be pursuing legal help with getting a class action started. If the NHTSA is really concerned for peoples safety and well being they should look into the problems people are having with the transmissions in these cars. All I had to do was look up on google 2006 Ford 500 recalls and I found all kinds of complaints about the same problems.

66 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 06/21/2012

5/29/2009 transmission had to be replaced at 86,000 at a cost to me of $5197. 36 total. Brand new Ford transmission installed warranty given of 3years 100,000miles. 6/21/2012 again transmission needs to be replaced at 150,000 4weeks after warranty expires. I understand Ford has had so many problems with thuis cvt that they stopped installing them. Ford dealer commented they have had to replace so many and are surprised a recall has not occurred. Very distraught that I am going through this again.

67 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

When car was placed in gear throttle surged causing car to jump while foot still on the brake. , also surges when pulling slowly into parking place.

68 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

My 2007 Ford Five Hundred sel fwd with the 3. 0 v-6 (81,421 miles) and 6 speed automatic transmission will intermittently surge forward or backwards without gas pedal application when idling in gear. It is as if I floored in a jackrabbit start. It does not do this every time that the car goes to idle in drive or reverse (for example, if I am in traffic at a stoplight) but it will do this at least once every time I drive. I have had to keep my right foot firmly on the brake pedal while backing or in a parking lot to keep the car from hitting pedestrians, other cars, sign poles in parking lots and my carport's wall. It will suddenly rev up when in either drive or reverse without my foot on the gas pedal and try to move in an uncontrolled manner. It may only do it once or it may do it three or four times in just as many seconds. I was unaware of this problem and nearly hit another car the first time this happened. There was no warning. No check engine light activated. My car is equipped with a tachometer, I have seen it jump as high as 2000 rpm from a 750 rpm idle and then fall right back to 750. The fact that I have not hit anyone yet is proof that this is not a pedal misapplication error, but my concern is that an inexperienced driver or someone who is unaware of this defect will be surprised by it and kill or injure themselves or someone else. This is the first time I have ever owned a vehicle with such a problem I took my car to my local Ford dealer and was told that the problem is a defective throttle body which is being replaced tomorrow. I researched this problem on the internet and have found reports that the replacement part is no better than the original. The fact that a defective part can cause a vehicle to act in such a dangerous manner is symptomatic of a factory defect and should be acted upon by the NHTSA as soon as possible.

69 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

I was approaching a red light and as I lifted my foot off the brake pedal. . . . . . . . . . . . . . The car accelerated abruptly and I was unable to stop causing me to pass red light, almost striking an oncoming vehicle that was making a left hand turn and driving onto sidewalk. Fortunately no one was hurt and an accident was avoided due to my quick response. The vehicle has accelerated abruptly on several other occasions. I was parked in a publics parking lot when I put my vehicle in reverse the vehicle once again accelerated almost hitting parked vehicle behind me. I was advised the throttle sensor was defective on 2005 & 2006 Ford Five Hundred models and no recall yet! this defect causes vehicle to accelerate abruptly (even when parked) or not accelerate at all! there have been many reports regarding this issue and nothing has been done about it. When a life is lost or someone is severely injured. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Is that when some action will be taken? according to reports even if the part gets replaced it does not guarantee it will not go bad again. Repairs have been known to cost between $450. 00 to $750. 00.

70 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

At very low speeds (example in a parking lot) trying to park the car it will surge really hard even when foot is on brake. . Makes parking very dangerous. . I almost hit a person and almost wrecked into another car another time. . When shifting from park to reverse with foot on brake the rpms go waay up and it is as if someone is flooring the gas pedal.
