For the past year my Ford Flex has an illuminated warning on the cluster that says that my passenger front door is not closed. This results in features of my vehicle not operating along with my interior lights coming on and the theft alarm going on when the vehicle is just sitting. This drains the battery resulting in a no-start. Now my driver's door also comes on as not closed. The cluster tells me to turn the car off each time I brake the vehicle. I contacted Ford last year and was told that there was no recall for this issue even though it is viral on the internet. I was waiting for them to do the right thing and my car is starting to leave me stranded. My Ford fcsd person that I last spoke to told me to fix it on my own and keep receipts in case Ford decides to recall. She said it will be safer to have it fixed. By not issuing a recall, I am making the assumption that there is no safety issue despite my vehicle detecting and announcing that my doors are not closed. This problem is an issue when the vehicle is on or off, standing still or mobile -- always. It happens in hot and cold temps. Infrequently, vehicle detects the door as closed. Ford has made modifications to this door latch (part # change) and I am hoping they do the right thing and repair these vehicles. I currently have 74000 miles and this first occurred at approx. 60000 miles.
2013 Ford Flex door ajar light stays on when doors are shut. Driver door. Dome lights stay on during initial reverse of vehicle causing zero visibility out rear of vehicle including side mirrors and rear view mirror. Multiple instances of near misses due to loss of visibility.
Front driver door latch sensor defective. This results in the following issues: door ajar warning light illuminates; interior lights remain on, even when driving; doors cannot be locked from inside the car if keys aren't in ignition (due to feature that is designed to prevent keys from being locked in the car); alarm goes off at random times; battery drains because interior lights stay on until battery-saver algorithm turns them off. . . Although after many cycles, battery is drained down. This is a safety issue because: a) interior lights remaining on makes it difficult to see at night; personal safety risk since doors can't be locked; dead battery renders car inoperable.
Door latches are failing on both driver and passenger side similar to an existing Ford edge recall. Doors do not lock while driving and rear doors can be opened from the inside while in motion.
Rear door sensors do not confirm that the rear doors are closed and will not signal doors to lock when vehicle is in gear, creating the potential for a door to be opened inadvertently while in motion. Also related, because the doors are constantly reading ajar, the interior courtesy lights will come on with the doors shut and will run down the battery. Ford has not made a repair available.
Driver side door latch malfunctioning causing "driver door ajar" warning, interior lights to remain on for extended period, and aftermarket alarm to sound. Began at 36,347miles on 1/20/16 to present.
The driver side door will not register as being closed when it is actually closed.
Passenger door sensor is telling the instrument panel that the door is open when it is shut. It will not automatically lock or allow me to lock the door when car is in motion (it pops back up). When motor is turned off the interior lights stay on. For a long time indicating that the door is not shut. The frequency of this problem has worsened over the past few months. And now the seatbelt latch doesnt work properly.
My passenger door light comes on when the door closed. Causing my interior lights to stay on & keeps my doors from locking. This happens at different times at first it was when I first start the car now its coming on when driving down the road. Now we are questioning the safety of my passanger when I'm driving down the road. This is also a issue when we get out of the car since it causes my interior lights to stay on unnecessarily for a length of time.
The door ajar sensor comes on when you get in and close the door. While driving the shift to park warning sensor comes on when you stop or yield. This happens over and over while driving. It's sensing door ajar therefore leaves all done lights on. If you slam door really hard sometimes lights will go off but you have to sit and watch to make sure. At night it's impossible to drive. Very unsafe. Sometimes I have to disconnect battery in fear of it dying and then be left stranded. They said it's the door hinge and parts are not available for 20 more days, I can't imagine dealing with this for that long for sure I'm gonna need a new battery.

Left front door show adjar when shut.
Ford is having many issues with the door latches on the Ford Flex, Ford edge and taurus. The faulty design doesn't relay to the computer that the door is actually closed when it is and tends to start a chain of events throughout the car. 1) at high speeds it will actually unlock all four doors. 2) it will also do it at every stop sign when the foot is removed from the brake pedal, which then allows the doors to be opened from the outside and inside so a child could actually open the door. 3) at all speeds including highway it will suddenly turn all interior lights on allowing the driver to be possibly blinded momentary until the speed sensor shuts the lights back off but then it flashes them again. 4) it will also not allow you to lock the doors at any time. 5) lights stay on thinking the door is ajar and with vehicle off will allow the battery to drop below safe operating levels before the batter save feature kicks in.
The door adjar light is coming on and it's the door sensors that are bad. There are thousands of complaint on this same issues. Please make Ford do a recall to fix this issue.
I bought a new 13 Ford Flex , that only my wife drives. A few months ago the door ajar warning kept going off when the door is closed. I just bought a $130 battery cause this drained the battery, I cant lock the car, and the alarm goes off all day. Ford says its a bad latch cost is $515. 40!! for a door not ever used.
Driver's door latch ajar sensor malfunctioning. Reads "door ajar" with door closed, have to repeatedly open and close door to get the sensor to read correctly, and it still doesn't work right. Anti-theft alarm will randomly engage because the sensor is telling it the door is opened after being locked.

Door ajar warning lights when door is securely closed. This is a know issue with several Ford service bulletins issued. There are definite safety concerns as the following also occurs: dome light stays on while driving making it difficult to see interior lights stay on when leaving vehicle allowing easy viewing of interior and possible battery drainage all doors will not lock (unacceptable) this is a major safety concern the false warning keeps driver from knowing if there is in fact a true door ajar situation Ford refuses to fix this under warranty saying the door latch (which the door ajar switch is an integral part) is a "wear and tear" part and therefor not cover by warranty. This is an issue on many Ford vehicles including Flex, edge, explorer and taurus.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that a module was faulty and needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 80,000. Jft.
Purchased car in Feb. 2013. In oct 2014 I began taking my Flex to sunland Ford service center due to door ajar warning lights on both right side doors. The service center would disassemble and clean door assembly. There would be no more warning lights for several weeks and then the problem would persist of the doors appearing ajar. Finally, service center decided to fully replace door assembly on back door latch but part was on back order. Service center replaced back door assembly in December of 2014. My passenger door continues to show the door ajar and my warranty expired February 2015. I still have this problem today and have called Ford motor company to which they claim this is not a known problem. There are several safety concerns. 1) in motion: dome lights don't shut off hindering visibility for the first 2-5 minutes of night driving. 2) stationary or in motion: doors cannot be locked while car is on and parked. This is dangerous. 3) my auto door locks quit working for a time and I can only assume it's because of these door issues.
"door ajar" message is displayed after driver's door is closed. Multiple closing attempts are required to rectify, often five or more. Doors cannot be locked while message is displayed, creating a safety issue. Dealer has said it is swamped with recall work and cannot address.

I was turning a corner and something popped and the car would not steer. The only thing that stopped the car was the curve, as I was making the turn, and that caused a lot of damage. Sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL said they would not repair the damages caused by the lemon-Ford-flex that was sold to me because the vehicle was 300 miles out of the warranty. Sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL than said it would have to be reported to insurance. So I reported it to insurance and the repair shop, that was repairing the damages, said they found damage to the radiator (1,500 dollars worth of damages) which could not have been caused by the car hitting the curve. And that it looked like sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL raised the car inappropriately and caused the radiator damage. The repair company said, since the original place where the Flex was towed to (sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL) was located right behind them (across the alley), sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL caused the damage. And of course, sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL denied it and would not pay for the damages. Buyer beware - do not do business with sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL. Buyer beware - do not buy a Ford and if you do, do not go to sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, IL.
The door actuators in these cars are defective and need to be on the recall list!! many Ford Flex door actuators are defective , the car thinks the door is open when it is closed . Causes your doors not to lock, makes your battery overheat, drains your battery and makes the alarm go off randomly . I bought this car new and it had happened since day 1!.
