Failure Date: 11/01/2017

My Ford Flex stalls while driving anywhere from 10 mph (in residential area) to 80 mph on highway. Electrical is still working the engine shuts off and I lose control of gas/brakes. Three warning signs pop up at the same time: check brake system, collision warning not available, and service advance trac. Once I restart the car, the codes will disappear. The problem was intermittent at first, but now it's occurring more frequently. I'm too scared to drive my car now. Ford isnt being much help. I need help.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford Flex

Failure Date: 04/26/2014

The first incident occurred April/2014 while my Flex was idling in the driveway and shut off and would not start for about six hours. I did nothing to diagnose or troubleshoot, it just started after sitting for that time frame. It did not go to the shop. The second incident occurred June 11, 2014 while I was driving about 5 minutes from my home. The engine shut off while I was traveling about 30 mph, I coasted to a halt in a traffic lane and it would not start. It would crank, but not turn over just like the first incident. It was towed to a shop where it was determined the fuel pump was not getting power, but before it could be isolated the vehicle started. The tech advised since it started they would not be able to do anything further. I took the vehicle to the battlefield Ford dealer and told them the issue. It was due for a recall which would switch out the fuel pump and fuel pump control module and was advised that should fix the problem. The service was performed. On June 26, 2014 my wife got in the vehicle in the morning after it had sat in the driveway all night, and when she hit the start button it took many more cranks than usual for the vehicle to start. As soon as she turned from the driveway it started sputtering and fluttering and the engine shut off down the block from our home. She coasted to a halt, the vehicle did start again and she parked it in our driveway. It would crank and crank but would turn over. I called the dealer and had it towed there, fortunately I have aaa. My vehicle is out of warranty to due to mileage. As it stands now this is a very serious issue. We live in northern va and travel I-95 frequently and if the vehicle would turn off while traveling there it could be tragic. We don't feel safe driving this car anymore and will more than likely trade it once the dealer fiddles with it.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford Flex

Failure Date: 03/18/2013

While driving on a highway during rush hour traffic, as the traffic slowed down, and I pressed the brake, the engine shut completely down. First the battery light came on and then all lights within the speedometer cluster came on. Traffic began to pick back up and I was going up hill, yet I was merely coasting at the the speed I was before I stopped and slowing down. Luckily the traffic did not come to a complete stop because I would have been sitting in the middle of the road. I am not exactly sure what the speed was because I was more concerned with what I should do. I was in the middle lane and not able to get over. With my wife and two toddlers in the car, I thought quickly and put the car in neutral and attempted to restart the car, it worked, and I was able to place the car in drive without even making a traffic backup. All this happen so fast. I dropped everyone off and took it to a Ford authorized dealer who so far has told me that there is nothing they can do because there are no errors in the computer and they cannot duplicate the error. They told me "I" would have to drive it more to get a better understanding of what is going on. So in order for Ford to do something about this error, (that I have found all over the web (engine shutting down) regarding the Ford Flex), more with the 2009 models; I have to get in a car accident because my car shut down in the middle of traffic. (this is my interpretation of what the dealership told me). That is the only way I can get Ford to look at the problem seriously. This is the second incident. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but I was coming to a stop the first time. The car started again so I thought it was a fluke.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Ford Flex

Failure Date: 10/29/2012

First incident happened while driving about 40 miles an hour. Idiot lights came on the dash and the cars engine turned off. Thankfully I was able to get car off to the side of road. Car cranked right back up. 5 days later while sitting in a fast food line, same thing happened and was able to crank car. Called dealership in town, brought car in and they said, "nothing is wrong with your car, come and get it" picked up car. 2 days later while driving it down our street, I stopped to get mail about 9pm and the car totally died. No power at all. Was stuck in park had to be towed. This is a very dangerous situation. The car shuts down while I am driving!!! thank god that it has not happened while going 65 miles an hour with my family in the car. Car is at dealership. Have only had the car several months. Not a good track record so far!.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford Flex

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

On August 8, 2011 and February 8, 2012, my new Flex shut down while I was driving. The dashboard lights flashed on, and the vehicle turned off - total electrical failure - couldn't accelerate or brake - had to painfully pull car off the road. Car was towed to dealer. Ford dealer performed diagnostics to no avail, as when the engine shut down, I turned the key off, then back on again - this destroyed the data. Seems like a fundamental data system flaw. Nonetheless, I drove away from the dealership in fear, only to have the incident recur six months later. Now I am driving with a data flight recorder for a mere ten days, the button of which I must push, if and when the car shuts down again. Without recorded data, though Ford believes my report, I seem to have no recourse with Ford. I now am driving in fear for my own and others' lives. Has this happened to anyone else?.
