3 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

My car hesitate and jerks when advancing from a stop. This is very scary when I'm on the highway. My car at times doesn't pick up speed I have to press down more than usual to get up to speed. I had my fuel pump replace because the indicator detected an issue, wasn't aware that this was a recall.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2019

The fuel pump has failed on my Focus. The car just shut off while driving. Engine turns over but will not start. It was on a residential street. My car was built 7/14 which falls outside of the recall window which ends in may 20014. Its my firm belief it may very well be the same fuel pump issue the others are having. Have not made any repairs yet as this just happened last night 7/30/2019.

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2019

Takata recall. I took my 2014 Ford Focus to a Ford dealership because my car gas gauge was showing erratic mileage and because I knew I had a recall. I received my vehicle with the same problem as I took it in. My gauge still kept showing erratic mileage. I went back 5 days later tto tell them what was going on and I asked what procedure they had done. They told me that they had only reprogrammed a module. I told them if they could check it out again and they told me that they could but they were going to charge me a diagnostic fee because they had already performed the recall. The diagnostic came out and it turned out that my car needs a new fuel pump, canister purge valve, and fuel tank. I told them that those things were supposed to be fixed the first time I brought it because it was part of the recall. They transferred me to Ford internal something and Ford said that the recall was already performed and that it was my responsibility now. I mean how does a company like Ford can be so unprofessional about somebting like this. I mean part of the recall is to take your vehicle to get those things fixed that the Ford assembly line failed to address when making the model. Now I am even more scared because I don't know when I will get stranded somewhere because I'm not sure what gas mileage it has.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2019

In December 2018 I was on the highway going 70 mph and suddenly my car would no longer accelerate. It would not start either until hours later. Took it back to Ford after telling them what had happened and they said it was because of a fuel pump recall. I got a letter later that month after my car had been to Ford and checked out, saying the part was recalled in October. I was not notified prior and it is very dangerous to stall on highway. Then a few weeks ago I had the same thing happen on the highway again. Whenever my fuel is kind of low the car just stalls and I can't start it. I was able to get gas and jump my car and get it home and has been fine since, but I went into Ford the next day and told them that the same issue happened and they told me that back in December when they fixed my vehicle they actually just looked at it and said it was fine, but told me they replaced/fixed the part. So the part was never fixed or resolved. Not to mention I have only have this car since September 2017 and have had the clutch replaced 3 times and now am feeling the signs of it failing again for the 4th time. This car is unsafe and unpredictable and Ford has lied to me and not informed me of the dangers of the vehicle I'm paying them for.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle the engine would suddenly stall when shifting to the drive position . Recently the vehicle would not start at all and was towed to the local dealer johnson brothers Ford( 7455 s. General bruce dr. Temple TX. 76502) who diagnosed that the canister purge valve, fuel tank and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in the NHTSA recall campaign 18v735000(fuel ststem) but the parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not yet notified. The failure mileage was 51,000. Jft.

10 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While operating the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed inaccurate information and indicated that more fuel was in the fuel tank than actually was in the tank. The vehicle was taken to don gasgarths Ford (3156 tamiami trail, port charlotte, FL) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty was and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 40,000.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving, the fuel gauge dropped quickly without warning even when the vehicle had a full tank of fuel. The vehicle was taken to darcars Ford lanham (located at 9020 lanham severn rd, lanham, MD 20706, (301) 459-1100) where it was diagnosed, but a failure could not be found. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel canister seized, which damaged the fuel pump and caused the fuel tank to implode. Both components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,166.

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2018

My 2014 Ford Focus was sold with a defective evaporation emission control (evap) system. Because of the defect, raw fuel can be sucked through the evap canister through the purge valve directly into the engine, causing the car to stall or hesitate while driving, which can be extremely dangerous to drivers and pedestrians. My car is a 2014 and has approx. 27k miles on it. I now will have to pay $1960 in repairs to replace the evap purge valve, the fuel tank, the fuel pump, and the fuel sending unit, which have all been damaged as a result of the valve failure. I have seen numerous identical complaints on carcomplaints. Com and the NHTSA government website, including complaints that people could have been seriously harmed, as they lost control of their vehicle on highway or major road. There was a lawsuit in 2017 (jon rivera, et. Al. , v. Ford motor company) but Ford won and the defect was not considered a recall. I believe Ford should take responsibility for manufacturing a faulty part and putting consumers in danger that they may not realize. Ford should absorb the costs that are resulting from the failure of defective parts in relatively new cars.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2018

While driving down interstate 75 south at 70 miles per hour, car set on cruise control, the car lurch forward. When trying to resume speed the gas pedal did not respond coasted through a lane of traffic to the side of the road where the car died. Unable to restart the vehicle was towed to the nearest Ford dealership matthew curry in nokomis. After three days of sitting Ford decided to look at the car and quickly determined the problem was a purge valve sticking causing a vacuum in the gas tank which caused the tank to collapse and damage the fuel pump. It was easy to recognize because they have seen this same situation many times on the Focus model. A documented recalll has occurred in australia and new zealand over this very same issue Ford a us manufactured car yet no recall in the us. I can find more than 100 reports online regarding this same situation in the us but Ford will not take any responsibility. I have spoke to corporate where they issued a case/claim # 14636968. They then advise me to call the service manager who says he sent everything to corporate then given the run around. I have called Chevrolet and Honda they don't seem to have a problem with gas tanks collapsing. Ford step up and take responsibility for this faulty system. I am grateful we are safe this malfunction while driving 70 on a busy florida interstate during rush hour could have ended much differently. . Ridiculous flawed product.

14 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2017

Noticed fuel gauge inaccurate, miles to empty inaccurate, engine cutting out while coasting to stop, feeling gas pedal unresponsive or suddenly fueling engine unexpectedly. Learned from vehicle inspection at dealership service dept. That fuel tank is "delaminated" and deformed, and tank, valve and fuel pump all need replacing. Cost: $1500. Not considerered under warranty even though, according to them, this is a manufacturing flaw described by a TSB years ago.

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle began to lose power and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (crouse Ford, 11 antrim blvd, taneytown, MD 21787) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and closed out the case. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2017

Car transmission jerks, sputters, accelerates and stalls. In addition now having issues with fuel tank not guaging and now it hesitates, stalls out and is not safe. Car suddenly stopped running had to be towed to the shop and shop advised the fuel tank guage was not operating and registering gas. Now I am going to have to take it back to the shop as it appears it may involve fuel tank, fuel pump and vapor management. I only know this is because searching on line I see many simiilar complaints about the jerking transmission problems, and problems with the vehicle stalling out. It says Ford is not acknowleding this as a problem. I believe they need to recall this and fix this although it appears based on reviews even after repeated attempts to fix it is still not resolved. Many customers have had to pay thousands of dollars. This vehicle is not safe to drive and is in a class action lawsuit.

17 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2017

Transmission: while driving the vehicle the transmission in some cases will shift very rapidly giving the vehicle no acceleration power. The vehicle feels sluggish and vibrates. Also, while driving over speed humps or through an intersection in almost every instance the vehicle starts to vibrate after going over the speed hump or through the intersection. Fuel pump: while driving the car the car lost all power while driving in las cruces, new mexico. The car did not stall completely however when depressing the accelerator the car would just now increase in rpm's. I took the car into a mechanics shop and they were not able to duplicate problem. I drive the car for another year and this time the car again started to sputter. It turned out to be the fuel pump.

18 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2017

I have read plenty reviews and even checked my credit report where Ford cars of the 2014 has recalls on the fuel pump or fuel system. When I first brought the car we had to get the clutch replace and it still had gaging issues. The car cuts off in traffic and I do not have an extended warranty due to the fact that kt would never cover pre-existing conditions. We even called a Ford and they would not help us. This fuel system needs to be fixed.

19 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer again where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump control module failed. The failure caused a lean condition in the engine and caused the oxygen sensor to fail. In addition, the fuel pump control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred while at the dealer. However, during this incident, the vehicle idled at very high rpms and an overheating warning indicator illuminated, which warned the contact to pull over. The vehicle was taken to a dealer once again and the mechanic stated that there was a chafed wire. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that they would take the contact's information and file a complaint with NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

20 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

I was driving my 2014 Ford Focus se and the engine light came on. I took my car to the repair shop and was told that my fuel tank, fuel pump and vapor management valve needs to be replaced and it will cost 2000 dollars. This was not covered by warranty. Ford refuses to do a recall even knowing there were issues with this problem.

21 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

The car was driving rough and stalled while idling at a red light in a left turn lane on a 6-lane state highway. It wouldn't restart. I had to have it towed to a nearby mechanic who discovered that the fuel pump was bad and had to be replaced.

22 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

First problem was the car shuddering and jerking. Ford garage, repair some transmission seals, programming, replaced fuel tank, fuel pump and engine wire harness repair. Shortly after the car began to lose ability to move when accelerating, the engine rpm's would rev and vehicle had little power to move. Ford garage replaced clutch and did programming. On the way home from that repair, our care suffered the same symptoms it was brought in for. It is currently in the shop and we have no confidence in what we will get back.

23 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2016

I have the same "shuddering" issues as many of these other complaints. I have had the transmission reprogrammed several times and the issue goes away temporarily and then comes back. Worse, the vehicle has stalled while driving on the highway twice. I thought the first time was a fluke because I was able to get going again, but after the second time I had it towed to a dealer. They started the car and let it run for an hour, then plugged in the computer, and called me and said they didn't find anything wrong with it. Meanwhile I see several recalls online related to engine stalling related to electrical signals and fuel pump issues. While my car doesn't have any outstanding recalls right now, I can't help but believe this is the issue. I drive over 300 miles each weekend on busy highways, and now I have a car payment on a vehicle I can't drive because no one can fix it and the problem is still there, a huge safety hazard! I will never buy a Ford again, and I'm selling my stock.

24 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

When starting the vehicle it has a 'hard start' and idles extremely rough for a car with only 18200 miles. It has done this since I purchased it in June 2014. I've had enough cars to know that this is indeed not "normal". It feels like the idle is not set right and it vibrates enough that you can feel it while in park and idling. I was told by the service manager who is obviously not a mechanic that this is 'normal' for the 4 cylinder engine to vibrate. Also the car continuously shudders, lurches and loses power on acceleration as a result of a faulty transmission. Clutch assembly was replaced at 9300 miles. Note to everyone, upon taking the car to the garage for the fuel pump recall in Dec 2015, the car had to be put in the garage again in Jan 2016 for the purge valve to be replaced, which resulted in my tank becoming deformed (deformed means it shrinks, but no one bothered to explain that to me). Within a month (after 4 repeated trips to the garage for the same issues: distance to empty calculations and miles per gallon were all over the place, no gas mileage to speak of but each time was told that when diagnostics were performed my car was getting 35 mpg). However, when I put gas in it, I had a 12 gallon tank before purge valve was replaced in Jan 2016, 9 gallons was all it would hold and the gauge showed full. The the car used 1/4 tank of gas to drive 27 miles. The vehicle is still shuddering at a stop light & lurching when accelerating and feels as though the tires are grabbing for traction. But it is within 'specs' according to the technicians. I have had the following replaced: 2nd fuel tank; 3rd fuel pump; 2nd purge valve; and 2nd clutch assembly and the car isn't even 2 yrs old yet and has under 20,000 miles. It is a road hazard. I've had it to 3 different garages and still no resolution. Contacted Ford (dont bother), I have since contacted the bbb.

25 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2015

My car has been a problem since I purchased it new in December 2013. It would make a loud grinding noise, slip when shifting or when downshifting to come to a stop, bog down when taking off and also jerk when shifting after taking off from a stop. I've taken it to the Ford dealership several times for the issues and they fixed the clutch once but even since then it still has issues shifting. Also since then I've had to replace the fuel pump as there was a recall on it for my car which the dealership was surprised by because it was the first of this recall they had seen for this car. I've also called Ford headquarters twice personally to see about a buy back or trade deal and they said they could do nothing for me at this time. This car is a brand new, junk, safety hazard and needs taken off the road but Ford will do nothing. I'm disabled so if it causes a crash I will die instantly and then they will have a big lawsuit on their hands from my family. I've also contacted attorneys and am part of the class action lawsuit for this car as well as speaking to a lemon law attorney. All they would have to do is step up and except responsibility for this and make it right but they won't do anything.

26 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

I received notice of an "important safety recall" from Ford motor company in June 2015. I drive 100 to 150 miles a day for work. The dealership is instructed not to replace the fuel pump unless there is a problem. The car has been serviced at least three times since June for unrelated problems. Safety is so important that I received a reminder notice in November. Yet, the dealership is unable to replace the fuel pump until they can prove a problem exists. I have written to Ford motor company customer support (see documents attached) only to receive the same response. Ford says there are limited supplies of parts available. The purpose of this complaint is to prevent an injury. Fords notice is clear that a car may stall or stutter while driving, which can lead to a crash. To prevent a crash, injury or death Ford motor company should replace defective fuel pumps before they fail. Your attention and intervention may save lives. Sincerely,.

27 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving at 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact stated the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The result was inconclusive. The contact stated that the fuel pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

28 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v005000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

29 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving at 70 mph, the engine stalled. The vehicle was taken a to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the fuel pump assembly, fuel line pressure sensor, and the ignition coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,500. Updated 7/14/cn.

30 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

While driving car suddenly began to loose rpm, motor quit running, could not restart. Vehicle had to be towed. I was told the motor was bad and would have to be replaced, the next day was told the fuel pump was bad and was all that was needed replaced, then was told the problem was caused by "bad fuel" and not covered by my extended warranty. I get gasoline at same place, they tell me there have been no other complaints about problems with fuel. Only last month I noticed oil on sides of car and the water pump was replaced, was told by mechanic at Ford that the "oil and water were mixing". All this sounds a little too weird to be happening to a 2014 vehicle and I am not happy about having to spend over $500 to repair a car this new.
