Ford Focus owners have reported 10 problems related to air bag on-off switch (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Focus based on all problems reported for the Focus.
Air bag light is stuck on randomly makes a "dinging" sound. Tires continue to wear out at a rapid speed, ignition switch will get stuck an engine will not turn over-can't find a cause. And the a/c stopped working this week, mechanic looking for a leak unable to figure out these issues and why they all started with in past month. Each problem they can't find solutions or tell me it's probably a sensor or the heat. They hook it up to the computer and it shows nothing wrong?!?!.

Connector for airbags keep coming undone. We took in after seeing notification on dash showing airbag issue. Paid 170 for them to put a new connector in. Less than a year later it is loose again. We cannot keep paying $170 for them to fix this. The switch just hangs under the driver's seat and we have made a point of not putting anything under there in case this was the problem. I have seen online where airbags are not deploying. Could be a faulty switch underneath causing this to happen. . Read more...

On 10/23/2015 at 51,289 miles, I took the car in because the car intermitterly would not start & when taking off from 1st to 2nd gear, it was jerky. I would have to let off the gas. I also experienced a rubbing & scraping sound that I found out is what they said was the transmission clutch shuddering. The clutch & tcm (transmission control module) were replaced under the Ford technical service bulletins tsb15-0120 & TSB-15-0121. On 10/12/2016 at 71,906 miles, I took the car back into the same local Ford dealer for shuddering again. They replaced the clutch again & reprogrammed the pcm/tcm & preformed an adaptive learn procedure. I still experience a grinding sound mainly while turning, but have been assured that it is normal & not an issue. My most recent issue is my airbag light came on stationary (no flashing). I currently have less than 80,000 mile on the car. I took it into my local Ford dealer & the car gave code dtc b00c2-11-ocsm (right front seatbelt retractor assembly shorted). It will cost over $700 to replace!!! I was told if I am in an accident where the airbags need to deploy, they will not deploy. . . . . . None of them! less important problems I've experienced is the manual lumbar in the driver seat broke & the "beauty ring" around the headlight switch cracked. Ford does not sell just that piece. You have to buy the whole cover that also goes around the air vent right above it even though they are separate pieces clipped together, which is $45.
Dashboard exteme heat. Wiring for airbag switch no longer works. Airbaglight stays on. Switch on dash no longer works.

I was involved in a rollover in 2009. The car steering was loose and caused me to lose control on the road. I was switching lanes on the highway, the road was uneven and the steering seemed to stop working. Also the airbags did not deploy. It was a rental car.
Had brake failure, resulted in accident, hit a pickup truck and approximately 35 mph, airbag failed to deploy. However, the light came on and it did require a switch to be replaced which cost me a couple hundred dollars.
Consumer would be unable to turn the key inside the ignition switch. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Consumer adds ignition is stuck when attempting to start vehicle. Both rear doors will not open due to vehicle not starting. Clock spring and steering lock assembly were replaced.

The key switch keeps locking up and you can not turn the key. It has to be taken to the dealer or shop for repair. This has happened 5 times and the dealer covered the first 2, and I paid for the next 3.
