Car Throttle Sticking Problems of Ford Focus

Gas pedal/throttle sticking causing vehicle to accelerate when driving. Also, causing vehicle to rev high when at idle and during shifts (past 4000rpm) causing excessive wear on clutch components.

This has been a re occuring problem that the throttle body sticks causing my vehicle to go into "limp mode" causing the car to almost loose power. This has had several close calls now, it does get better when cleaned but is needing cleaned more and more often.

Driving at high speeds the gas throttle sticks (app. 45-higher). The speed control also got stuck before. The car also has problems starting. In mornings and evenings, regardless of weather the car doesn't always start.

I have a 2004 Ford Focus that has 18,000 miles. I have already had to have the throttle replaced twice; after several thousand miles, the throttle begins to stick and it becomes more difficult to apply light pressure to the gas peddle. The throttle will stick and as I apply pressure to the gas, the car will surge forward when the force finally overcomes the throttle sticking. This causes problems in commute stop/go traffic as I have several times almost hit the car in front of me because of the surge.

Three times I have had the throttle stick even though I have let off the gas. Once when I had less than 5,000 and again at the end of last year. Once when I parked the car and once while I was stopping at a light. Both times I had to shut-off the vehicle and re-start it to cure the failure. I did not report it to the dealership but it did it again last week while I was driving.
