1 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/19/2019

In the course of less than a month, the car's problem progressed from intermittent starting issues that left me stranded to a full-on failure of the transmission control system. The clutch of the vehicle had been replaced and the transmission repaired in June 2018. On may 30th, 2019, the car was taken in due to transmission starting issues. The lights would turn on when turning the key, but the engine would not crank. The car was returned after the transmission control module was replaced. On June 11, 2019, the car was returned to the dealership for the same issue. Car would not start and took about 50 tries after having been stranded for several hours. Car was returned to me several days later because nothing was found. On June 19, 2019, I was driving down the highway, I was in the left lane going about 60 mph. I tried to accelerate to pass someone, and my car would not accelerate. When I looked down, my check engine light was flashing, my battery light was on, and my oil light was on. The car downshifted and started to rapidly decelerate. Engine shut down, and car was rolling to a stop. I had to rush to the right lane in rush hour traffic, and I managed to roll my way up the exit ramp, where my car shut down completely at the top of the exit ramp. Car would not restart, and I was stranded there for over an hour in a dangerous place and situation. I called a tow, and after trying to start my car intermittently for over an hour, the engine finally started. I drove it straight to the dealership to be checked out again. The same issue with transmission control has persisted, resulting in me having to take the car in on three separate occasions in about two weeks. It started of from intermittent starting issues to the car shutting down completely while traveling at a high speed. This car has done nothing but put me in danger, and I haven't even paid it off yet.

4 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/29/2015

While accelerating in traffic yesterday evening a warning appeared on the display panel "stop safely now". I was unable to exit the roadway immediately due to traffic and the vehicle would not accelerate while approaching a traffic light. The engine operating indicator (a green car with arrows pointing forward and back) was no longer on but accessories on the car worked properly (e. G. Headlights, power steering, etc) I put the car in park and attempted to turn off the car with the brake pedal engaged in an attempt to restart but car would not turn off. I was able to eventually push the car off of the roadway into a parking lot. The car's ignition turned off once I was back in the vehicle and the door closed. I powered the car on after it had fully shut down and it returned to operating normally. Please note: this is the all-electric Ford Focus. Thank you.

8 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/29/2014

I bought my 2013 Focus se pre owned with 19500 miles in March of 2014. Within a month the car was shaking horribly at stop and at speeds between 0-30mph, while grinding-like noise came from the transmission. I am in fear of my wife and my safety, I almost got rear ended by a big 1 ton diesel truck because my car would not accelerate from stop. I took it the the dealer and the car was "repaired" by the Ford dealership where I bought it from. After taking it home 2 weeks later I brought the car back because the same problems were occurring. Ford service assured me there was absolutely nothing wrong with my car. Me being a chemical plant worker working overnights made it difficult to bring the car in for a third time during their business hours. First chance I got I brought the car back to the dealership a month later to get it fixed again. I talked to the dealer manager and he guaranteed me he would help me with this issue, he took me to the Ford service manager just for him to tell me "its normal" for that car to do that. They said all they could do is some computer reset to the car and gave it back to me. The service manager told me the car will start shaking again eventually and there's nothing they can do to fix that problem because thats the way the transmission was designed. I am in the process of filing a lemon law complaint against Ford. Will never buy another Ford vehicle again.

The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v495000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000.

10 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

While merging onto the freeway my car would not accelerate. I pushed the gas pedal to the floor and the rpms shot up but car would not accelerate. Finally after almost being hit by other cars it shot off like a rocket. After multiple incidents of jerking and not able to accelerate randomly I took it to Ford and the clutch was replaced in April 2014. Not long after, it started doing the same thing except worse. I took it back to Ford and was told the tranny test results came back normal and that a motor mount was missing or loose. They kept it for 3 days to fix the motor mount. The car is now worse and today the check engine light came on and car had very little power. Going to take it back to Ford and hopefuly they will fix it this time. My gas mileage is only 20. 1 mpg. Another problem was that my entire sync system went out and had to be replaced in August 2014, costing me $1093. 00. It started messing up by having a very loud popping/crackling noise that would start randomly even when car was off. It was very scary when it would suddenly start making the loud noise while I was driving and almost caused me to wreck at one point.

11 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/08/2014

I was driving on the highway at midnight 2/8/2014 at about 75mph when my car started to become stiff in the steering and lost speed rapidly. I down shifted from 5th gear to 4th gear the car would not accelerate even with my foot pressed all the way down on the accelerator, I shifted down to 3rd because of the sudden loss of speed and still nothing the cars rpms would go higher but the speed would not change. This nearly caused me to have an accident so I exited the highway and shut the vehicle off. Once the vehicle was shut off and turned back on the problem went away, I contacted Ford brought it in to their service center and they could not replicate this problem and suggested I continue to drive the vehicle until it happens again.

12 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/05/2011

I bought my 2012 Ford Focus hatchback in July of 2011. Almost immediately I noticed problems. The problems included the car rolling backwards on hills, sputtering when stopped (like at a red light), jumping upon acceleration, & briefly losing acceleration while the rpmâ??s revved. I took it back to the dealership & they told me that the backwards rolling, revving & jumping of the engine was a trait of the car. I told them it was dangerous depending on where I was when these things happened (for example, at an intersection or in stop & go traffic with a car in front of me). They assured me that there was nothing wrong with the car. On October 17, 2011, the car broke down. I pulled out of a parking lot & pushed down on the accelerator, at first the car started to accelerate, but once it got to about 15/20 mph, the rpmâ??s began to rev & the car would not accelerate so I took my foot off of the accelerator & the car stopped revving. If I had been on a highway, this would have been very dangerous. My car had to be towed to the dealership. They reprogrammed the powertrain control module & transmission control module. The car would then drive, but the rolling backwards on hills, sputtering when stopped, jumping upon acceleration, & briefly losing acceleration while the rpmâ??s revved still continued & after several trips to their service department, the dealership could still not fix these issues. I then received a letter from Ford referencing a customer satisfaction program 12b37 dated may 2012. It acknowledged these issues so I took it back to the dealership. Although they reprogrammed the powertrain control module, transmission control module again as well as the anti-lock brake system, the car continues to have the same problems. These problems could potential cause a wreck, injuring myself or others around me.
