Dash Wiring Problems of Ford Focus

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Focus. When the vehicle was started, the contact noticed that the battery was dead. A tow truck was called to jump start the vehicle. The failure recurred the following day. The oil and the seat belt warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was not caused by the battery. The technician diagnosed that a cluster under the dashboard, which controlled all the light signals, was faulty and needed to be "repaired or replaced. " the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000.

Was driving 45 on a busy road and all the lights on dashboard flickered and the car went dead and had to drift off onto a median. Had 2 people look at the car and found that there was the 20 amp fuse out. Went to get another one we made sure all the wires were attatched and nothing was loose, we turned the steering wheel a bit and with the new fuse in the car started, as we turned the steering wheel the car stalled again. Went back to the store bought 2 more fuses and got the car started drove 1 mile and it stalled again. Tried the 3rd fuse and nothing. Had to have the car towed to local garage 20 miles away from where it stalled. The garage states that the issue is in the dashboard and they have to take it to Ford to have it tested to find the issue. Cost will be anywhere between $400 to $1000 to fix depending on what they find with the test. Got the call from the garage it is going to be fixed for $500. Money we do not have for bad wiring that is not our fault! Ford needs to step up and take responsibilty because this seems to be an issue!.

Interior dashboard lights went out, also noticed extrior rear lights went out. Replaced fuses, blew new fuses immediately so some sort of short in the electrics. Wiring on hatch lid appears to be frayed. We have found a recall for this for the 2000 version of this car but not the 2001.

My 2006 Ford Focus hatchback developed frayed wires in the hatchback harness that caused a short so that the dashboard lights do not come on as they should when the exterior lights are turned on unless the rear window defroster is also turned on. Despite being covered by Ford's 'extra care' extended service plan that is supposed to cover wiring harnesses, Ford is refusing to pay for the repair.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. While driving 20 mph, the contact smelled a burning odor coming from the dashboard. He examined the vehicle and noticed two wires were melted in the wiring harness. The contact believes that the failure originated from the rear deck lid. Two wires were fused together due to fatigue, one wire being 7. 5 amps and the other being 15 amps. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 00v411000 (electrical system:wiring). The current mileage was 42,679 and failure mileage was 42,670.

Contact states a local service dealer said the insulation on wires from the trunk lid to the inside has been scraped off in the factory. This did caused a short in the wires, leading to the loss of abrake lights.

Instrument cluster is bad and the guages will not work. Part is not available and my vehicle has been down for a month and 1 week as of right now. Service manager has given part to area rep for Ford, and that was a week ago.

While driving 70 mph consumer noticed a burning odor, and then the vehicle stalled. Vehicle was towed to a repair shop, and mechanic determined that a piece a metal cut and shorted the wiring harness connection to the headlight switch.

The vehicle stalled on two separate occasions. The speedometer in the vehicle always reads zero. The milage erase on their own and pop up again days later then disappear again. The consumer stated that he has to turn the vehicle off and turn it on again to read the gas gauge. Automatic locks engage 20 minutes after the consumer has started driving. The vehicle steering wheel became hard to move as the vehicle loss power and shut down on several occasions.

Speed control switch for heating and air conditioning fan broke and needed to be replaced.

"check battery" light comes on when driving slowly or stopped. When driven for more than 45 minutes speedometer jumps wildly and dash lights go on and off. Electrical buzzing noise from dashboard. Dealer reports that they can not find the problem.

While consumer's wife was driving vehicle caught on fire, smoke was coming out from the air conditioning vent. Dashboard melted, and windshield melted.

I went to warm up my Ford Focus zx3 as usual on Tuesday morning, but when I turned on the heater/deforoster nothing happened. I then got it serviced and was told that the heater/defroster switch had melted. My concern is that there could of been/ still can be a fire if the electrical system is faulty enough to melt the switch.

Brakes have failed to stop the car, they didn't lock, and I don't have abs. Radio loses power intermittently. Then clears up and is good for a while. Had incidences of car jerking/stuttering when coasting at surface street speeds has happened three times. Have taken car to dealership and told nothing wrong. While driving at 60 mph using the cruise control, all of a sudden vehicle lost power and stalled out with all lights in instrument panel coming on. Contacted dealer ,and the dealer could not find the problem.

The bushings failed ruining the back tires. The door locks have a mind of their own which could be dangerous in an accident and Ford has been unable to diagnose the problem. The steering column was loose and they discovered broken parts in there. There is an undiagnosed problem with as scraping noise as I turned a corner into a parking lot. We are afraid to drive it, every time we do something else happens to it.

Car burned in my driveway. We just found out it came from under the dashboard, a problem with the wiring(electrically)in the heating system.

At idle the head lights, dash board lights, and internal dome light flicker with cycle of engine. Ford certified mechanic does not acknowledge the problem, nor a remedy to the flickering. Flickering still exists!.

Manual transmission makes clattering noise at idle speed. Transmission difficult to shift and grinds gears. When coming to a stop, engine sputters as if it is going to stall. Instrument lights flicker due to low alternator rpm. Idle then increases.

On Aug 31, 2001 at approxametly 1:40pm, while on my way to work my speedometer, and tachometer topped out. And all dash electrical systems began flashing. My car began excelerating and stopping on its own, and I imedeiately noticed smoke pouring from under the hood and from the vents. I pulled into parking lot at work, I poped the hood and called the fire department, becuase there were flames coming from the battery area. The fire depr't came and put out the fire, the car was towed to the nearest Ford dealer (purvis Ford, fredericksburg va). I have only had the car 28 days and have not paid a payment as yet when this occured. Seeking help from NHTSA in these matter.

When I bought the car they said they programmed the aut. Door locks. There were none. I was told to take or leave it. The door clip is broken, tapes are chewed, brake lights failed on hwy. ,complained of brakes @5k miles - down to rotor -they said it will be every 15k miles. "not our prolem. " this car is a dangerous lemon. I don't want to die! fan belt is loose/needs reeplacement. My warranty is up soon. I wanted what I paid for -safety, and have a "death trap". Ford says "we cannot lose any money" to me. I informedd my insurance company because I am afraid, and do not wish to be blamed for Ford's poor quality workmanship. Exact dates can be found. Vehicle has experienced an electrical module failure which causes the vehicle to reek of fire, have the horn blowing, power failure, and overheating.

From the dash compartment there is a crackling, and smoke comes from the dash, possible electrical wiring problem, consumer complains that the burning smell is irritating to the eyes and throat.
