Started with horn and tail light intermittently not working. Then intermittently as you are driving the car shuts off with no warning. This is a major safety issue! everything locks up and you attempt to make it safely to the side of the road. All dash lights work but car won't start. Found same complaints on internet and youtube but no recall. Took to local Ford dealer and they cannot find the issue. The diagnostic machine did not issue a code. I explained in detail the issue and asked for documentation of the issue. The paper they gave me said runs rough when ac is on. I said that is not the issue. They said don't worry the ticket is still open in the system. I asked if they could put a reader on the car while driven to catch the diagnostic code and they said no. So I am in same situation as other owners where my safety and others are at stake each time this car shuts off. Also dealer said they h horn with a screwdriver to make it work for now. So no horn, tail light and car shutting off intermittently are serious safety issues. Ford needs to recall this problem and fix it!.

Horn began intermittently failing, when double locking the car the horn chirp would either not sound or would sound but quietly as if it was dying. The same thing occurred when trying to engage the horn by depressing the center of the steering wheel. Sometimes it worked others it didn't and sometimes it sounded faint and cut off early. After about a month the horn stopped working entirely. When trying to engage the horn from the steering wheel I hear a click like a micro switch engaging but no sound. My horn will not sound whether I am parked and stationary or while driving on the freeway or city streets, all I hear it the sound of a micro switch click. I am currently at the Ford dealership and the little metal connectors for the horn are corroded and after cleaning them off the horn works fine again. Due to the location of the horn I have to pay quite a bit for this and discovered it is a known and common problem.

My first issue with the vehicle is a malfunctioning horn and front passenger side window. Then the transmission failed on me while I was driving. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership for service. Ford replaced the transmission after having the car for about a month. The dealership said they also fixed the horn. But that is not the case. The horn is still not working. I don't use the horn much, but I realized how dangerous not having one can be last week. I had to signal a vehicle backing up into the main road in order to avoid a collision. Since my horn was not working, I had to swerve. The vehicle is back at the dealership for service. The vehicle has been there for 3 days and they still have not updated me on the status of my vehicle.
"takata recall": about one month ago the horn started working intermittently before ceasing to work at all. It will not work where the car is parked or in drive. I bought the car less than a year ago. In general it has had other issues with the electronics in the car, anything having to do with the media system (auxiliary, usb, sync audio, etc have all stopped working) since I bought it in June 2016. I cannot obviously honk the horn while driving and communicate effectively with other drivers on the road. The car has ~53000 miles.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving and attempted to use the horn, the horn failed to function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The horn has stopped working after 31000 miles, the relay and fuse have both been checked and are still good. I noticed it when I locked my car, and then when I pressed the panic button there was no sound as well as when I pressed the horn button. The horn should not be out on any car after only 30k miles, these cars seem to be wired badly which is a shame.
At 58,000. Horn started to work intermittent, now it does not work at all. What next? already had work done on tranny. Every thing seems to be computer related. It also surges at start up at stop.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the horn failed to work. The contact called the dealer and was advised to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

I was having issues with the electrical problem the horn went out for a period of time also the radio is not workingas well as the airbags did not deploy when I was recently in a vehicle accident I am lucky to be alive. I was making a left hand turn onto a road and was hit from the side the impact was enough to make my engine dismount but my airbags did not deploy.
I have had the horn fail to operate several times, the panic mode somehow gets triggered and when I can finally stop the horn from blowing, the horn will not function under normal conditions afterward. It presents a very dangerous situation to deal with.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. Ever since the vehicle was initially purchased, there was a safety concern with the clutch. The contact stated that the clutch assembly shuttered and affected the condition of the vehicle. Years later, the dealer (pat milliken Ford, 9600 telegraph rd, redford charter twp, mi 48239, (313) 731-6436) repaired the vehicle per an unknown recall. Months later, the failure recurred. In addition, after completing an unknown manufacturer recall concerning the door locks, the horn, key fob, and electronic locks failed to function. The contact was not experiencing the electrical failures prior to the dealer's repairs. The contact was concerned that the recall remedy caused multiple electrical failures. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 65 mph, the transmission jerked excessively. The contact had to slowly remove his foot from the accelerator pedal to stop the jerking. In addition, the horn and the alarm system no longer worked. The air bag warning light illuminated on and off while the contact was driving. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
My wife and child were at a red light and when the light turned green and the gas pedal was pressed, the vehicle did not move only revved causing the man behind her to inch very close behind due to the light then honking his horn and yelling. In addition, after my wife and child returned home, I went to run to the store only to find that the vehicle does not turn over, not even sound like its attempting to as there is no noise when turning the key. I believe the vehicle does not recognize what gear it is in, thus will not start and has always had erratic shifting and lurching tendencies. I do not know what to do now, I have a family of five I support and no money to fix this. How am I going to get to work!!! I still have 5 years to pay on this. . . Ughhh. Trapped.
The vehicle has 5mph auto door locks. When you initially take off the doors are supposed to lock when the vehicle reaches 5mph, the doors are locking at 5mph but the horn blows twice distracting other drivers and its not supposed to do that. It started this about July of 2015 and continues to do this intermittently.
The horn is an important safety system required for annual state inspection. Horn has not worked regularly for years. Have had a mechanic shop reset the wheel switch and it work for a short time. Diagnosed bad design with spring/switch at center of steering wheel.
On Saturday, may 16, 2015, I was traveling east on interstate 40, memphis, tennessee. Suddenly the gas pedal bumped twice and my vehicle went completely dead in the middle of this busy interstate. The electrical system just died, my emergency flashers wouldn,t even work. Iall I could do was continue to lay on the horn and wave my hand out the window trying to get the oncoming traffic to realize my car had stopped. My husband told me to get out of the car. I went to the side of the road. A good samaritan, stopped and was able to push my car across the two lanes of traffic and safely on the right median. This happened between 7:30 and 8:15 in the evening. My husband arrived on scene and we planned to return in the morning with a battery hoping that was the problem. I am currently unemployed since 03/15/2015, I couldn't afford to have the vehicle towed. I do not think this was caused by the battery, I think it was a defective transmission. I purchased the vehicle in March, 2013 as a certified pre-owned vehicle. Every problem I've had with this vehicle has been with the transmission. There was in fact an issue with the clutch, I received a letter from Ford motor company that the replacement part was defective and may need to be replaced again. The warranty on the clutch was extended to 100,000 miles. I have a message screen on this car. There were no warnings given to me. I definitely feel this is a safety issue! what makes a car completely die as you are traveling 55mph? I have spoken to Ford and they say that particular model does have some issues, but they said they had no idea what could have gone wrong. I was told to just feel lucky I wasn't killed. All I want to know is why would a car going 55mph suddenly just die, with no warning? I guess someone will have to be killed to get any answers. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle lost power. In addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate as the rpms increased. Also, the contact mentioned that the horn failed to function. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that a module in the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000. Updated 09/10/lj.
Ford Focus s 2013 horn was not working starting in April 2015. Car was purchase new in July 2013. In mid April horn was working again, but only for about 3 days. Horn was inoperative entire month of April and began working again in mid-may. About 3 weeks later, starting in June, horn was again inoperative. Checked relay and fuse and both worked - relay "clicked" using horn button on steering wheel and when key fob locked doors. Determined horn was faulty and relay/fuse not the problem - called dealer for appointment. Dealer confirmed horn was inoperative and had to order a horn which required that I come back a second time to have it replaced. Dealer & service personnel were very cooperative and I told them this problem is common for Focus and read many posts on the internet confirming this issue.
The horn has stopped working. It worked the first few weeks we had the car, and it no longer works currently. Fuses and relays were checked associated with horn function via owners manual and were not the source of the issue.
Horn stopped working checked fuses and relays which all work but after reading there are several people that complain that the wiring in the car causes a problem with the horn becoming inoperative. This is a wider problem and wish to have Ford issue a recall. I have had issues not being able to warn people drifting or not paying attention with no way to warn them. This is a serious safety issue.
All since purchase in Jan 2014. Within a few months of new purchase: electrical issues and errors unknown to Ford, need for transmission swap, 2 or 3 recalls re transmission and door replacement, horn stopped working (while in 65mph traffic i95 and almost in an accident). Constantly in shop and continual issues with stalling (once, stopped in 65mph traffic on major interstate i95 in left lane), synch and phone system has never worked correctly. 3 weeks ago, after stopped at a traffic light in rush hour traffic in philadelphia, depressed gas pedal and went in total reverse! did this twice before completely turning car off and had to be towed.
On Sunday June 23, 2013 at approximately 3:00 pm on or about buffaloe rd at southall rd in raleigh, nc, we were heading west bound in the right lane of buffaloe rd. Approaching a green light. Approximately, 700 ft from the limit line, the light changed to yellow and we slowed to stop. Stopping was a little more firm than the slow paced regenerative charging, a noise was from the front was heard, resembling that of a loose brake pad hitting metal and the vehicle them sounded a warning and flashed "stop safely now" visual warning as we came to a full stop at the limit line at the light. Although there was no power to the motor, the system was active and the green go car was not visible. We attempted to reset the vehicle by powering off and powering on to no avail. The light turned green and cars began to sound their horns. I immediately activated the emergency flashers and stepped out the vehicle to direct traffic around the stalled vehicle (not recommeded unless properly trained). Traffic on several instances came dangerously close to collision as this situation presented a huge risk to personal safety. Had we just sat in the vehicle, we surely would have experienced a collision. Several minutes passed and we attempted to restart the vehicle from a cold start. It was only after the vehicle was completely shut down, rested and powered on that we were able to proceed. Having a vehicle just stop in traffic for no reason presents a huge risk not only to the owner but those around.
The electrical system has a short somewhere that causes the horn to stop working intermittently and also the brake lights to fail intermittently. I have checked fuses and contacted Ford and there are no recalls. This caused an accident on 02/23/2013. A man backed into my vehicle in a parking lot (with my two babies in the back seat) and I couldn't blow the horn to let him know I was behind him. I was helpless to stop it from happening. I believe it is illegal in most (or all) states to not have a working horn on the vehicle. Ford refuses to recall, diagnose, or repair this vehicle at no cost to me. I believe that this is a very serious safety issue and I feel that nobody will take me seriously.
The car has jerked, shuttered, and shook from almost the day I bought it, I have battled these issues from the very beginning. It won't accelerate for a few seconds when I push on the gas I have almost been in an accident because of it. The flashers come on when I unlock my door, my horn doesn't work, my driver window doesn't work, I have had the clutch replaced, the cluster was fried twice, and the control module has been replaced. Then driving on the freeway my car engine revved way up and the rpms went to 7000 and I lost power to accelerate my car. I was in the middle lane when I lost the power to my vehicle I put my flashers on and coasted to the side of the freeway. Thankfully the freeway wasn't busy. The reverse also went out on my car. The car is now in the shop for the 6th or 7th time for the same issues but it is never fixed.
Experienced sudden electrical failure (loss of instruments, brake lights, turn signals, horn, etc. . Read more...
I purchased the above vehicle in 2009 new. I have driven it 43000 miles so far and 2 to 3 months ago I started having problems with the horn. The horn is mounted to the frame right front towards the bottom. Rain or water had managed to get into the horn due to it's location. Instead of a loud sound you can barely hear it since when I pulled it off, it was full of water. This is a safety item since it is used to warn others.

My 2005 Ford Focus ignition keeps locking up on me, unable to take keys from the vehicle-leaving me stranded or car open to theft. I was in a car accident over a year ago, since Ford wont touch vehicle-says everything was because of accident which was only minor damage. Since the accident I haven't had a problem with vehicle until now. At time of accident , the air bags didn't deploy, now everytime I honk on horn the air bag light comes on and stays on for a day or so.

: the contact stated all four power doors failed to lock from the inside and/or outside intermittently. Also, the rear passenger and driver's side windows would not roll down. The driver and passenger's side front windows rolled up/down intermittently. Sometimes the horn failed to sound. The manufacturer determined the problem was because of excessive dirt and dust around the contact's residence. The drivers door would not open. Updted 09/22/06.

I purchased a 2006 Ford Focus on 12/3/05, it had 4 miles on it when I drove out of the dealership. On Thursday may 3, 2006, it caught fire in my carport. The mileage is between 2,000-3,000 miles, I believe. I arrived home from a meeting at a local bank, having driven approximately 2 miles. I parked the car in the carport, turned off the engine and entered the house. I did not notice any strange noises or odors. My husband arrived home about 15-20 minutes later. He began tooting the horn on his vehicle to get my attention. When I opened the door, he yelled "get your keys. " I could see flames under my car and smoke seeping out the sides of the hood. I threw him the keys and ran for the fire extinguisher. He entered my Focus got the engine started and backed the vehicle out of the carport and away from the house. As he backed up the vehicle, flaming parts began falling out from under the car onto the concrete floor. He got the car backed up about 10 feet and the engine quit and would not restart. He exited the car and tried to open the hood. The hood was very hot to the touch but he got it opened. The flames were about a foot high at the back of the engine area on the left side. We were able to put out the flames with the extinguisher. We then extinguished the flames on the pieces that were lying on the carport floor. Both continued to smoke for some time but the fire did not re-ignite. When the smoke cleared and we felt it safe to approach the vehicle, we could see the charred remains and melted parts. In retrospect I remember on two occasions seeing the battery icon lighted on the dash while a sat outside my office waiting for the bank to open with the car idling and the radio on. Both times I revved the engine and the light went out.

I own a 2004 Ford Focus zts, purchased new in June, 2004. Since purchase, I have had the horn replaced twice, meaning the car has it's 3rd horn. The problem appears to be water entry into the horn itself, possibly shorting out the device. The water could be from a car wash, or from water entry while driving in rain. This is a safety defect, in that I have no idea whether the horn works or not until I attempt to use it. This could be a major issue if I need to warn someone of my presence.

My horn stop working a little after I got the car back in 04. Ford has put about 5 new horns in still nothing. It works for a bit, then out of no were it stops. Then around 34,000 mi my car was in the shop for 33 days. At the time no one told me that my car was a lemon if its in the shop for that long under 36,000 mi then its a lemon. Then at 58,000 my engine starts to make a noise. So I take it to Ford, yep it needs a new engine, so they put a new one in there. Well at 67,00 guess what, my ignition has locked up, so now I'm screwed. I can barley make my payments and now I can't even drive my car. . . . . Again.
The horn was inoperative.
While driving from a parking lot doors locked. Doors were inoperative, except driver's side door. Also, horn started to blow and the driver was not able to stop it.
Power door locks failed to open after the vehicle was turned off. Consumer and child were stuck inside vehicle for at least two minutes trying to manually unlock the doors. Horn started beeping/ headlights and hazrards lights wouldn't go out, and trunk wouldn't open. An electrical burning smell was entering vehicle. Two days prior door key code would take 3-5 tries to unlock the door. Dealer was aware and inspected vehicle. Please provide more information.
