Ford Focus owners have reported 7 problems related to o2 sensor (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Focus based on all problems reported for the Focus.
The engine light came on stating that it is a O2 sensor issue. I've replaced the O2 sensor several times. I've had mechanics and the dealership look at it with no ability to figure out what it is. It is believed to be electrical, most likely the wire harness. My alternator was affected as well by this electrical issue. I have had to put in a few new O2 sensors, two new alternators, and a battery.

While sitting still my gas hand went from 1/2 a tank of gas to the full mark. Filled it up even though the gas hand was on full mark. It took $20 to fill it up and for it to kick off. Then when I started to start my car I hand to turn the key twice to get the motor started and then after I took my hand off the key it kept on cranking as if trying to start although it was already running. I drove it to lexington and could feel it revving the motor up without me doing anything. I turned around and drove back to frankfort and took it to big o's. They put a handheld tester on it and said it was either the oxygen sensor or converter for the engine light that was on. I informed them that I had replaced the O2 sensor just 3 weeks ago. He test drove it and said it revved up on him also which he said something was going wrong in the transmission. When I left from there the lights came on by themselves, the check engine light was on, and the gas hand was still past the full mark. On 9/7/2018 although it said the tank was full my fuel light came on. It also quit on me on 9/7/2018 going down a hill and I had to pull over for a while before it would start back up so I could get home. There was a recall on the tcm valve which has been replaced twice and the clutches in the transmission which has been replaced twice.

As I was driving the car, at low rpm's the car would stutter and stall. It is more pronounced with the air conditioning on. Took it to the dealer and could find nothing wrong with it, I was told this is common. On my way home from the dealer the car stalled leaving a green traffic light and I was almost hit in the rear end. The car finally lite a check engine light 3 weeks later. Dealer changed an O2 sensor and 4 days later in July car went into "limp mode" in first gear as I was leaving a restuarant. The car hesitated and stalled in traffic, I was almost hit in the rear of the car again. The dealer claims that the an actuator controlling the radiator vents is bad, but this should no have caused the car to go into limp mode. Ford has a TSB for a wiring harness problem, the number is TSB 13-9-7 that explains the issues of stuttering and stalling, but unless 2 codes are read on the computer they refuse to fix it. The problem is well documented on Fordfocusst. Org website. Hundreds, if not thousands of cars have the same issue. I believe that one day someone, if not many people, will be seriously hurt due to this issue.

I know it's something stupid as [xxx] and watch just like last year in August the [xxx[ clutch is going to go out again! I loved this car but from reading constantly I've decided this is a serious Ford issue!!!! I have spent thousands on this! if I didn't have lifetime warranties on the alternator etc I could only imagine the cost!! through all this horror I've also had to replace O2 sensors maf sensor all engine mounts 3 times!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I have only owned this car for four months. First the oxygen sensor failed after two days. Then a month later I began having different lights come off and on with loss of power. I took it in to dealership and to Ford who could never repeat the codes. I replace the battery and this stopped for a month. It is now doing the same thing again. Stalling or acting as if it will. I have to pull over and restart it several times to reset the computer to get it to drive correctly. I am frustrated because no one can find out what is wrong. This occurs intermittently but when it does it can be over 10 times a day.

: the contact stated while driving 45 mph on the highway the vehicle stalled without warning. It was restarted but stalled again. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop and later driven to the dealer. The dealer could not determine the problem. Updated 11/14/2006 - the failure a ay after the vehicle was purchased. Diagnostic testing was done on the vehicle. The codes indicated that the fuel level sensor, vehicle speed sensor, and O2 sensor was out, and the transmission control switch was out of range.
