5 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/21/2023

While attempting to change front brake pads, I couldn't get any of my sockets, of which I have multiple sets of both sae and metric, none would fit the lug nuts. After talking with a Ford dealership parts department, I was informed that the lug nuts swell and beating a socket onto the lug nuts was the only way to get them off the vehicle. This is unacceptable, and it was lucky that I wasn't trying to change a tire in the middle of the night. I immediately bought after-market lug nuts to replace them on the vehicle at a cost well over $100. This is unacceptable.

9 Wheel problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/20/2022

Could not get tires rotated due to "swollen"lug nuts. Also the tool to fix a flat tire will no longer fit the lug nuts due to the swelling of the lug nuts. I feel like this is a very serious safety issue and we, the owners should not have the burden of having this situation fixed!! please help!! thank you.

10 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/05/2022

Ford owners have been plagued with the issue of poorly designed lug nuts that expand with age. My service center just informed me that most or all of my lug nuts need to be replaced, so I have authorized that to complete the service. I have read that the problem is caused partly because of improper tightening. When I purchased my Ford in 2018(a one year leftover) the Ford dealer had to resurface the rotors twice because of pulsation. I've since had oil changes done at another Ford dealer that supposedly included tire rotation, so it seems that Ford could be at fault for bad lug nuts and reinstalling them as well. I think that a recall is justified. What is odd is that this issue has been around for quite some time, but they are still selling the same part. How is that?.

11 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/23/2022

The issue is the lug nuts have a swelling effect and the problem is they are hard to if not impossible to remove and the cost to replace them all is expensive.

12 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/21/2022

Cannot change my tires due to swollen lug nuts. Because of this my tires have not been able to be rotated and will need to be replaced because of too much wear. Several mechanics have had difficulty getting them off and on and have said that I need to purchase replacements because Ford lug nuts are notoriously bad. If I were to get a flat tire, I would be stranded.

13 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Lug nuts are expanding and the two different metals are seperating. This is a saftey issue. It was brought to my attention by discount tire when I was having my tires rotated.

Three of the five lug nut studs on my front passenger side wheel broke off.

15 Wheel problem of the 2010 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/25/2022

Today, I took my Ford Focus in for service(05/25/2022). I had the oil changed and my vehicle tires rotated. While the service was being performed,I was informed my tire lug nuts were loose and defective in most cases. My advisor told me I should replaced all the lug nuts for safety as she knew of a Ford recall involving the lug nuts. I discovered there was no recall, but there was a class- action lawsuit that was dismissed in 2019. I looked at the old lugs and decided to not keep them on the vehicle and had new ones installed. I have the old lugs nuts for inspection if needed. I do not want to take a chance on my vehicle safety,so that is why I had them replaced.

16 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/25/2022

This is a lug nut-related complaint regarding the swelling and distorting of your tire factory installed lug nuts. I was not able to be remove lugnuts with the cars provided lug wrench. I was left stranded in a parking lot with a flat tire and had to drive the car with the flat tire to a local firestone dealer, to have them remove and replace the damaged tire because I couldn't remove the tire after several attempts. An hour later I had several people try and help, it was a nightmare with my 90 year old mother. I should contact a lawyer, this is very unsafe if stranded on the highway. Ford needs to recall and replace all lug nuts. Asap!.

17 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/06/2022

Lug nuts have expanded and have to be replaced. This is a known safety issue and a recall needs to take place.

18 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

Was advised during service at the Ford dealership that I purchased the vehicle new from, that lug nuts were compromised and needed to be replaced. Was told the lug nuts had expanded and softened and were compromised. This is a safety issue. Wheel could come off of axel at anytime.

19 Wheel problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/31/2022

Lug nuts swelled, unable to remove without damaging, all 20 lugs nuts.

20 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/17/2022

Two part lug nuts experience swelling over time and make removal of the lugs very difficult and may result in the lugs not being adequately tight when the wheel is put back on. The dealer confirmed that this is a known problem and when they repair this issue, they use an after market lug that is not a two part lug, and therefore doesn't have the swelling issue. I was not aware of this problem till my most recent annual inspection and when I expressed surprise, the dealer mechanic stated that even though Ford is well aware of this issue, Ford will not cover this item and its the owner's problem.

21 Wheel problem of the 2011 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

The lug nuts are corroded and we are unable to remove them for tire rotation.

22 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/13/2022

At 31,500 miles, the Ford dealer said the lug nuts were swollen and had to be replaced, because the wheels would not be safe to drive. No warning lights of signals prior to this problem.

23 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/16/2021

The service technician at local authorized Ford dealership (bill alexander Ford) informed me that during the service today they were not able to rotate my tires because the aluminum lug-nuts had swollen to such an extent that they could not get a socket on the nuts. The technician advised me to purchase steel lug-nuts and then the dealership could break off the aluminum nuts and replace them with the new ones. Of course I am concerned that breaking off lug-nuts may damage the wheel. Several years ago I replaced several lug-nuts with locking nuts and found covering them with the correct sized socket was so difficult that I have been concerned ever since about whether I could remove a flat tire in case of an emergency. Now I am hesitant to drive the car in case I get a flat.

24 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/13/2021

A majority of the lug nuts on my wheels had to be replaced because of the severe corrosion to them due to the crappy aluminum caps on the original vehicles. Three of them had already fallen off within the past 6 months. Mechanic said I would not have been able to remove a flat tire if that had occurred do to the damage on the lug nuts. The tires shop was installing my winter tires and notified me of the need to replace them. They are not cheap. It appears there have been a number of complaints about this issue. Some kind of reimbursement would be appropriate, yes?.

26 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/13/2021

I got a flat tire and the lug nuts were swollen. I was stranded on the side of the road and had to leave the car in traffic on the shoulder. We had to wait a full day to get the proper tool (a special lug nut wrench) to remove the wheel. The wrench that came with the car and the one I had at home would not fit over the swollen lug nuts.

27 Wheel problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/22/2021

I went to ramsey Ford dealer in rising sun, maryland for tire rotation on 7/22/21 with 125,803 mileage. They told me that I needed new lug nuts because the old lug nuts were swollen. I bought 20 lug nuts @ $6. 38 each totalling $127. 60. I am going for 4 new tires to walmart auto tomorrow 9/19/23 and the mileage is 143,619 and I told them that all my lug nuts were swollen because I rotated the tires myself last year and I had to hammer a 19mm socket on each lug nut to remove them. Walmart told me that the lug nuts were going to cost over $5. 50 each. The 20 lug nuts are going to cost me over $110. That's if the mechanic does not charge more for hammering them or drilling them off. It is what it is! I figured I would reporr it. I do have a hammer and sockets in my trunck if I get a flat tire. But I have seen on tge internet hundreds of people getting stranded on the highway.

28 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/09/2021

This is getting ridiculous. My Ford Focus not only has wheel issues every other day after replacing the tires several times, but the stuttering problem I've reported several times is still a problem and is getting even worse. No one is helping me with this issue. When my vehicle is at a stop and I press the gas is shakes and stutters. I was told by several shops that Ford has had lawsuits and several recalls over people who had the same exact issue and they refused to work on the car because of this issue. They said there is no part is existence that will fix it because they created it that way. This is bull and needs to be looked at.

29 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/12/2021

Found out my vehicle had 2 piece lug nuts which are damaged when removed and have to be replaced with one piece lug nuts which are $8. 00 per piece. At 5 nuts per wheel on 4 wheels that comes to $160. 00. Car was in for service(damaged tire). 02/12/.

30 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/17/2021

Flat tire while parked. Vehicle stranded in driveway. Lug wrench that came with the vehicle does not fit lug nuts. Unable to remove wheel to install spare. Tried using socket wrench. Could not find a socket that fit. Tried the following sockets: 3/4", 13/16, 19mm, 21mm. The lug nut size is something in between these. The lug wrench that came with the vehicle is 3/14 and fits the wheel lock adapter that came with the vehicle.

31 Wheel problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/13/2021

There are multiple issues going wrong with my car and I have 5 children and this makes me angry and scared to drive it 1. Vehicle completely shuts down if you go under 1/4 tank and not on red at all! no gas light or anything 2. The hesitation from stop to go is getting worse" mechanics tell me this is normal" for a Focus and now sometimes when accelerating on the highway it gets stuck in certain speeds and feels rougher 3. Now there is a chain like rattling noise upon idle that is annoying and embarrassing 4 the codes state oxygen sensor ,speed sensor, fuel valve issue, and power train and abs. . . It's 100. 00 per issue to diagnose. How is anyone able to afford this? I'm not a mechanic but everytime I take my car in they give it back saying there's no issue or I have to pay more fees to find the issue before anything can be replaced? this is crazy! I don't feel safe driving this car with my babies in it but with student loans and my kids school costs I can't seem to save if I'm paying all these fees to try to figure out what the issues are . The front windshield is horrible because it's hard to see out of even when I clean it w auto glass cleaner, which I have never experienced before and is very dangerous.

32 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/14/2020

Car was hesitant to go and skipping and makes awful noise on the passenger side front when on highway road noise. Dealer replaced clutch and seals and did a transmission service. Nothing was done about the awful road noise.

33 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

When a transmission recall was corrected I was advised that the lug nuts were warping and needed to be replaced. Substandard lug nuts should be covered by the manufacturer.

34 Wheel problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/15/2020

I was wondering about any recalls or complaints on the sumitomo tour plus lsv 215/50r17 tires. I purchased a vehicle 2 months ago that has a set of these and both front tires have had to be replaced due to what appears to be the center belt in the tire being broken. Both tires were visibly warped and you can see where it sinks in the middle of the tire. Unfortunately the cars warranty doesn't cover the tires and I'm having to pay to replace them so just looking for answers or proof of a fault so I might can have them replaced.

35 Wheel problem of the 2010 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/06/2020

~ I was told by Ford dealer mechanic I had bad lug nuts because they swelled and their wrenches could not fit them. He said I needed all of them replaced for safety sake. The dealer admitted this was a major problem and they have done other cars too. Dino della was the contact there. This was at park Ford, 276 route 6, in mahopac NY 10541.
