4 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

Driving at approximately 35mph the vehicle stalled out and lost all power (engine running smooth before this). Fortunately was able to safely coast to side of road. After short while able to restart van and drive short distance. Stall repeated and had to coast to side of road again. Again able to restart and get home (less than a mile). Had heavy rain day before, research has revealed this to be a very common problem with this vehicle and is most likely water leak onto pmc. This is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed, this could have happened while towing camper in two weeks with family on highway.

5 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

This has happened several time over last year or so that I have owned this vehicle. When driving down highway and it starts to rain cars sputters and seems to loose power. Twice it has stalled on me going 55 miles an hour on highway and have had to try and coast to side of road in traffic with people beeping with loss of steering. Luckily both times after a few mins the vehicle started again and was able to make it home. Have changed wires and plugs, runs fines in dry weather but still stutters and tries to stall when its wet out or rains! very dangerous and wont let wife take kids out when it rains in fear they will get stuck somewhere.

6 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2014

After wet weather the night before, vehicle running rough (to the point of near stall), hesitating to burn fuel properly to get up to speed and not shifting properly. Vehicle was then parked, re-started and acted normally. Within the past week, each day after rain the car reproduces this issue and only after exposure to rain. Yesterday I noted gap in cowl to sheet metal above pcm as well and also noted that a body seal next to the pcm was soaked. It is consistent with the internet complaints about pcm being exposed/flooded with water. This is a serious concern as to the damage it can do to the vehicle's most expensive components (engine, transmission, etc) as well as potentially produce an accident on the road should other anomalous behavior surface. It is also important to note that as this vehicle ages, more of the population of produced vehicles would be exposed to this concern as gaskets lose effectiveness due to compression set, deterioration of seal, the plastic the seal is attached to warps, etc.

7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cowl needed to be sealed. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred two additional times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

Car stalls when it stops, shuttering while it drives, the car has been to the shop twice know. The second time it was left outside the auto shop and it rained over night. When the mechanics went to start it and look at it they noticed there was water dripping out of our ecm. They did some research and found that there were design flaws in the ecm and that it wasn't sealed right. There should have been a recall but there never has been. I have looked online and there are all sorts of people reporting the exact same thing.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

When driving down the road the van will suddenly lose all forward momentum and drift momentarily until it will just as suddenly resume forward momentum and continue like normal. When this happens, the rpms drop off like the vehicle is stalling or fuel starved (however it has no hesitation like its running out of gas) no warning lights come on and there is no pattern to when or how it happens. However, the problem has been getting progressively worse and now it is noticed that it has a higher tendency to do it when it is raining or there is high humidity. It does it at all speeds from 25mph to 70mph. Ford dealership has looked at the van and could not get it to reproduce the problem when they had it. However, they stated this does not sound like a torque converter problem addressed under safety recall notice 11s25/ NHTSA recall 12v-006. This is a very dangerous problem and has almost caused several accidents as I have no warning the problem is getting ready to happen and have no way to notify other motorist of my sudden and quick deceleration.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Wife was driving home from work when the van just suddenly stalled. She was traveling at 35 mph when she lost all power. She then tried restarting the van and it started but when she tried to put it into gear the engine rpm's raced, then slammed into gear and then stalling again. The van was undriveable. She was able to get to the side of the road just feet before she would have been stranded on a narrow two lane bridge that is heavily traveled the logging and dump trucks. Had it towed to the repair shop for repairs. While doing research online about the issue I was surprised to find so many other have had the same issue possibly caused by water in the pcm module. The next morning I contacted the repair shop and advised them of my findings. Sure enough they where able to find the service bulletins from Ford about the issue 7 pages long. Several hours and $240 later the repair shop called and said the van was fixed and the could not believe the amount of water that came our when the sensor was removed. I cannot believe that Ford has not submitted a recall on this issue.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact was driving 35 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact attempted to steer from the vehicle off the roadway when she crashed into a flagpole. There were front bumper damages and the vehicle was towed to an automotive repair shop where they were unable to diagnose the stalling failure. The dealer was contacted and advised that they could not tell the contact what had caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 57,000.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph when the vehicle began to jerk and then stalled. The fuel gauge warning indicator was illuminated and the engine restarted and resumed normally. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who detected that the computer main brain exhibited water damage and recommended that the vehicle be inspected by the dealer. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and was in the process of being repaired at the owner's expense. The VIN and failure mileage was unavailable.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Drove through a puddle and the engine quit. Apparently, the water splashed the on board computer (pcm). I towed vehicle to the dealer and they implemented the Ford technical service bulletin (TSB) reference number(s): 06-14-10, vehicle worked fine until the fall of 2014. Now the vehicle won't start at all if it sits out in the rain. If it does the water gets into the pcm and prevents it from starting. Now it appears as though water is intruding somewhere else and it is confounding the pcm (engine computer) with more water / moisture. The car is now worthless to me and I will have to scrap it since it cannot operate in a normal midwestern climate. I surely do not want to spend another $1500 to $2500 to fix the problem only to find out it is temporary. This is simply a design flaw. Ford should recall these vehicles and pay off the owners to have them destroyed since the wet pcm can cause the car to stall when accelerating or simply driving down a rainy road.

16 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2009

The car stalled at an intersection and restarted and stalled continually. Had it towed to a repair shop. The computer showed a lot of funny readings like it was going 122 mph while at a stand still. He determined that water had leaked in the pcm. Dried it out and sealed it and made repair according to TSB. This is the third time that it has happened. The issue is drivable and potential for accidents and my wife being stranded in undesirable neighborhoods.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

Car stops working for a second when driving on highway in the winter time, usually snow. It as if something misses and car is about to stall out but catches itself and begins to work again. Usually happens in spurts but only in the winter months. Happens every winter for passed 3 years. Pcm and mass air flow sensors replaced twice.

18 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2006

I was driving through a construction zone; lane shifted onto the shoulder. Traffic was dense, but moving at near normal speeds. Vehicle in front of me braked abruptly as we hit the rumble strip. My vehicle shook dramatically; as I tipped in to accelerate, I discovered the vehicle had died (stalled). I restarted on the fly by shifting into neutral. Had I not done so, my vehicle would have come to a stop in dense, fairly high speed traffic--exposing me and my family to a potential high speed rear impact.
